This orbital light rail system would follow the M25 route on an elevated guideway from Luton Airport in the north, around to Heathrow and terminating at Gatwick. It would include connections to several radial railway lines with interchanges at (Great Western Main Line), (West Coast Main Line), (South Western Main Line), (Thameslink) and (South Eastern Main Line). Further extensions as far as Stansted Airport are also envisaged. Special light rail rolling stock would be designed to carry baggage, cargo and mail.

At the Red Bull settlement, the branch turns 90 degrees right, to head north and cross the main line on Poole Lock aqueduct. It then immediately crosses the A50 on Red Bull aqueduct, carrying boats north to join the Macclesfield Canal at Hall Green.

Hayle Railway System in 1837The Hayle Railway was an early railway in West Cornwall, constructed to convey copper and tin ore from the Redruth and Camborne areas to sea ports at Hayle and Portreath. Seen from a train on the main line, July 2010 is a freight terminal on the Kagoshima Main Line in Kokura Kita-ku, Kitakyūshū, Japan, operated by Japan Freight Railway Company (JR Freight). Presently the terminal handles no scheduled trains.

The S12 DMUs were meant to improve services on the Main Line and the Kelani Valley Line. The steep slopes on the up-country portion of the Main Line is difficult to operate. Prior to the S12, only a few models of locomotives were capable of operating this line. The is a railway line that runs through Tokyo and Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Chūō-Sōbu Line is part of the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) network, but it operates on separate tracks along the right-of-way of the Chūō Main Line (Chūō Line (Rapid)) and Sōbu Main Line (Sōbu Line (Rapid)), providing service between Mitaka Station in the cities of Mitaka and Musashino and Chiba Station in Chiba. The term distinguishes local trains on the Chūō-Sōbu line from rapid service trains running on the Chūō Main Line between Mitaka and and on the Sōbu Main Line between and Chiba.

SEPTA and Amtrak share the four-track "Main Line" grade of the "Keystone Corridor" between Philadelphia and Thorndale This branch makes local stops between Thorndale and Center City, Philadelphia along Amtrak's Philadelphia to Harrisburg Main Line, an electrified 104-mile two to four- track high-speed route between Harrisburg Transportation Center in Harrisburg and 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. The line was originally part of Pennsylvania's "Main Line of Public Works", a series of canals and railroads to connect Philadelphia with Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, and points west built between 1826 and 1834 by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The tracks subsequently became part of the Main Line of the Pennsylvania Railroad before eventually becoming Amtrak's Keystone Corridor. The "Main Line" also refers to the affluent Philadelphia suburbs along the line of the same name.
The signal box was located to the north of the passenger platforms, and controlled the junction with the Solway line. The down main line home signal was at the converging junction there, and there was a down main line distant signal on the approach side. There were several sidings in the Solway part of the station, controlled from the signal box, but the sidings in the main line were located south of the station and were not operated from the signal box; moreover they were on the approach side of the home signal. Although the electric telegraph system of signalling had been installed on the Solway line, there was no block system on the main line and the signalman had no means of communicating with other main line signalboxes.
The Nuneaton North Chord was completed and opened on 15 November 2012. The chord allows freight traffic approaching Nuneaton from Felixstowe via the Birmingham–Peterborough line to proceed north on the West Coast Main Line without conflicting with southbound main-line trains. It consists of a one-mile chord from the existing flyover over the West Coast Main Line to join the line to the north. The cost of this work was £25.6 million.

Grand Street was a railroad station on the Main Line of the Long Island Rail Road. It stood on Grand Street (now Avenue) in the Elmhurst section of Queens, New York City, west of the present Grand Avenue – Newtown subway station on the IND Queens Boulevard Line. Though it was only operational for 12 years, it served both the Main Line and the Rockaway Beach Branch which broke away from the main line in Rego Park. The station opened as a pair of sheltered sheds on July 1, 1913, and served both local main line trains and as the original terminus of the Rockaway Beach Branch.
The Great Northern Railway main line, destined to be the important trunk route forming the East Coast Main Line, by-passed Stamford, although it originally planned to run through the town. Goodman, writing in 1908, said that it "seems inexplicable that the main line... should be so planned as to pass by a prosperous market town of 8,000 inhabitants at a distance of barely 4 miles". Seeing themselves at a disadvantage, local people, led by the Marquis of Exeter, formed the idea of making their own branch line from Stamford to the GNR main line at Essendine. The Marquis of Exeter had his seat at Burghley House in Stamford.
The route was originally part of the Great Western Railway's main line from London Paddington to Birmingham Snow Hill, and . Most main line services between London and Birmingham on this route were discontinued in 1967 after the West Coast Main Line was electrified, and Snow Hill station was closed. Services were resumed between London and the reopened Snow Hill in 1993, however they were routed into Marylebone, formerly the London terminus of the now-closed Great Central Main Line, instead of the historic terminus at Paddington. Since the privatisation of British Rail in the 1990s, the main operator has been Chiltern Railways who have continued to develop the route and services.

With the electrification by British Rail of the East Coast Main Line electric services could be extended to and the Outer Suburban Service was changed from to , some of which were cascaded from the newly created Thameslink route, with the remainder newly built. In 1984 the decision to electrify the line between and Shepreth Branch Junction with the West Anglia Main Line north of allowed the reinstatement of through services to from via the East Coast Main Line, resulting in faster journey times than from via the West Anglia Main Line. This electrification was completed in 1988.

The is a railway line in Kyoto that was opened on 5 October 1989 by the Keihan Electric Railway. The Ōtō Line re- established a rail connection between the Keihan Main Line and the Eizan Electric Railway, which had been severed when the Kyoto City streetcars ceased running in 1978. The line is operated as an extension of the Keihan Main Line. All trains continue into the Keihan Main Line and Keihan Nakanoshima Line in Osaka.
By 1923, the Miyazaki Main Line track had reached north to link up with the track of the Nippō Main Line at . On 15 December 1923, the entire stretch of track from Shigeoka through Miyazaki to Yoshimatsu, including Minami-Miyazaki, was designated as part of the Nippō Main Line. The principal route between Sapporo and Okhotsk Subprefecture has changed several times. Lautiosaari Lautiosaari (standard abbreviation: Li) is a railway junction in the city of Kemi in Finland. The junction is located approximately two kilometers north from Kemi railway station on Oulu–Tornio main line where the Elijärvi branch line diverges from the main line. The junction is named after nearby Lautiosaari village within Keminmaa municipality. The junction consists of three railway signals and two interlocked and corresponding railway switches, forming a set of catch points protecting the main line.

Wigston Magna railway station was a railway station serving Wigston Magna in Leicestershire. In 1857 the Midland Railway opened its new main line to , diverging from the Midland Counties Railway main line at a junction slightly north of its Wigston station. A new Wigston railway station was opened on the new main line, and the Midland Counties station was renamed to reduce confusion. In 1860 the Midland acquired running powers to on the South Leicestershire Railway, which was later extended to .
The Brooksville and Inverness Railway was then completed in 1926. With the line in place, trains could now travel from the Seaboard main line at Waldo to Tampa as an alternative to the main line in addition to serving additional locations on the west coast. The Seaboard main line was also be double-tracked from Waldo to Baldwin to increase capacity. The Seaboard Air Line merged with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1967, creating the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad.
In the 1920s Sulgrave Manor House, about from Helmdon, was restored as a museum to the family of George Washington, whose ancestors held that manor from 1540 to 1659. In response the London and North Eastern Railway, which had succeeded the GCR in 1923, renamed its main line station "Helmdon for Sulgrave" from 1928. British Railways closed the SMJR station and line in 1951, the GCML main line station in 1963 and the main line in 1966. Helmdon Viaduct survives.
In 1893 the Savannah, Florida and Western Railway (Plant System) directly acquired the South Florida. Henry Plant died in 1899, which led his heirs to sell the Plant System to the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in 1902. The Atlantic Coast Line would then designate the South Florida Railroad main line (along with the main line of the Jacksonville, Tampa and Key West Railway and other railroads to the north) as their nearly 900-mile main line from Richmond, Virginia to Tampa.

Constructing a trotline is quite simple. Basic supplies needed are fishing hooks, clamps, swivels, fishing line, and a durable cord or lightweight rope used for the main line. Before constructing the trotline, it is a good idea to measure the span of the body of water being fished in order to give the main line an appropriate length. Once this is done, drop lines are set along the main line by threading clamps on the line with swivels between them.

The Acton–Northolt line (ANL), historically known as the New North Main Line (NNML), is a railway line in West London, England. Built between 1903 and 1906, it runs from the Great Western Main Line at Old Oak Common TMD to the Chiltern Main Line at South Ruislip, alongside the West Ruislip branch of the London Underground Central line, for a distance of around . Since 1963, due to the decline of some lines it connected, it has been little used.
Its main line opened progressively from 1840 to 1842. It was worked by the neighbouring Eastern Counties Railway, and it leased its network to that company in from the beginning of 1844 for 999 years. From that time it was a financial company only, it amalgamated with the Great Eastern Railway in 1902. The entire network is still in use and electrified, and part of the original main line now forms a section of the main line between London (Liverpool Street) and Cambridge.
The Glasgow Central Railway closed in 1964, but the majority of it reopened as the Argyle Line in 1979; it carries an intensive electrified suburban passenger service, joining the main line at Rutherglen, continuing along the main line. Trains run to Lanark, using the Shieldmuir spur to Wishaw, rejoining the original main line at Law Junction. Other trains run on a circle from Newton via Uddingston, Bellshill, Motherwell and Hamilton. The Tollcross line also closed in 1964 but was not reopened.
In 2020 the AS&LJR; main line is in use as part of the main line from Manchester to Leeds via Huddersfield. Only the Stalybridge extremity has been closed, as the main line continuation uses the former Great Central and LNWR station. The East Curve at Miles Platting is also in use for freight purposes. The Ardwick branch also continues in use, except that the southern extremity approaching Ardwick has been closed; the line connects eastwards using the Midland Railway's Ancoats curve.

HSTs are the train type used most often on the main line through Plymouth Plymouth railway station is an important station on the Exeter to Plymouth line. Great Western Railway trains from London Paddington station either terminate here or continue to Penzance along the Cornish Main Line. Other services on this route are operated by CrossCountry from as far as Manchester or Aberdeen. Local services are operated by First Great Western, both on the main line and on the Tamar Valley Line to .
The Yoshimatsu-Kobayashi section opened in 1912, and was extended to Miyakonojo the following year. Construction continued east and opened to Miyazaki in 1916, with the line formally named the Miyazaki Main Line in 1917. With the opening of the Nippo Main Line from Kokura to Miyazaki in 1923, the line adopted that name. In 1932, with the opening of the Miyakonojo-Hayato line, that became part of the Nippo Main Line, and this line's name became the Kitto Line.
Main Line Reform Temple Beit Elohim was founded in 1952 by young couples as the area's first Reform congregation. The congregation held Sunday School and Sabbath services at the Haverford Friends School on Buck Lane. When Adath Israel moved from 410 Montgomery Avenue to Merion in 1954, Main Line Reform purchased the property from Adath Israel and used the building for its own services. Main Line Reform constructed its current sanctuary and classroom buildings at the Montgomery Avenue site in 1960.
The Mayflower line is a railway branch line in the east of England that links , on the Great Eastern Main Line, to . The point of junction with the main line was named Alyth Junction; the Dundee and Newtyle Railway had been connected to the former SMJR main line by two ancillary railways, the Newtyle and Coupar Angus Railway and the Newtyle and Glammiss Railway. (Glammiss is spelt Glamis nowadays.) These two lines approaching from Dundee forked to run south-west and north-east respectively, and Alyth Junction was in the middle of the base of the triangle. As Dundee was a significant destination from Alyth, a connecting line from Newtyle was built by the Caledonian Railway, and it was made to cross over the main line to avoid conflict with main line trains. This opened on 3 August 1868.
An unrelated realignment was made in the 1910s at Rome, when the Erie Canal was realigned and widened onto a new alignment south of downtown Rome. The NYC main line was shifted south out of downtown to the south bank of the new canal. A bridge was built southeast of downtown, roughly where the old main line crossed the path of the canal, to keep access to and from the southeast. West of downtown, the old main line was abandoned, but a brand new railroad line was built, running north from the NYC main line to the NYC's former Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg Railroad, allowing all NYC through traffic to bypass Rome.
The broad-gauge main line ran northwards from Bombay to Baroda, where it bifurcated, the north-east main line continuing towards Delhi, and the north- west main line to the industrial city of Ahmedabad and onwards to Viramgam and Kharagoda. Neasden Junction A Thompson L1 2-6-4T suburban tank engine at Neasden Shed in March 1957 The Aylesbury Line used to be the main route of the Great Central Main Line, until the Chiltern Main Line was built to replace it, rejoining the old route north of Aylesbury. The Great Central ran to Rugby, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield and Manchester until it was closed due to the Beeching axe in 1966. Just south-east of the mainline junction the freight line (Dudding Hill Line) from Acton splits into two, one line continuing onwards north-east to and the other joining the Chiltern Main Line westbound.
The Newcastle & Berwick Railway (N&BR;) main line between and Berwick was authorised by an Act of Parliament of 31 July 1845 but due to its primary purpose being for inter-city traffic, it passed almost 3 miles east of Alnwick, the area's main market town. Thus also included within this act were powers to construct a branch line to link Alnwick to the main line at Alnmouth station. Nonetheless, the company's priority was to construct its main line which was completed 1 July 1847. The delay to the opening of the branch line meant that a temporary horse-bus service was provided between Alnwick and Lesbury station on the main line.

While the term Caledonian main line has no authoritative present-day definition, it is generally taken to mean the main line between Carlisle and Glasgow and Carstairs and Edinburgh. That is consistent with the first main line from Carlisle to Garriongill Junction, then following the Clydesdale Junction Railway route to Gushetfaulds, just outside South Side station, and then the later short line Glasgow Central station. The Edinburgh section runs from Carstairs to Edinburgh Waverley station; the final section of the original line to Princes Street was closed and trains diverted to Waverley. The route is now the northern section of the West Coast Main Line, and carries a heavy passenger and freight service.

Most of the of land thereby enclosed is derelict meaning the canal serves the Canal & River Trust (British Waterways) maintenance depot at Icknield Port and conveys water from Edgbaston Reservoir to the BCN Main Line. The enclosed land has no pedestrian or vehicular access. Icknield Port (Loop) takes its name from the Roman Icknield Street which passed nearby, the exact route of which is unknown.
The Howrah–Bardhaman main line is a broad-gauge railway line connecting Howrah and Bardhaman via Bandel. The railway line operates in Howrah, Hooghly and Purba Bardhaman districts in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is part of the Howrah–Delhi main line and the Kolkata Suburban Railway system.
In April 1886, under pressure from increasing OR&N; through rates, NP decided to also build a temporary switchback over Stampede Pass. The route left the main line at the Martin station and rejoined the main line at the west end of the tunnel. The switchback was completed June 1, 1887.

The locomotive was initially allocated to Crewe Electric depot for trials along the West Coast Main Line. Following successful testing 89001 was transferred to Hornsey and later to Bounds Green, for passenger services on the East Coast Main Line. In May 1988 the locomotive returned to Old Dalby for braking trials.

Essendine railway station was on the East Coast Main Line. The railway line and station opened in 1852 and the station closed in 1966. The line is still very busy. The station also became the main line terminus of the short Stamford to Essendine line (via Belmesthorpe) which opened in 1856.
The border with Derbyshire is to the north. The River Anker and the Coventry Canal run through Polesworth, and the A5 road runs nearby. Polesworth railway station is on the West Coast Main Line. In 2005, Polesworth received no train services due to the modernisation of the West Coast Main Line.

Abashiri Station is served by the Sekihoku Main Line from Shin-Asahikawa, and the Senmō Main Line from Higashi-Kushiro. Okhotsk and Taisetsu limited express trains and Shiretoko rapid services terminate at this station. The Yūmō Line formerly diverged from here, but the line was closed on March 19, 1987.
A railway station was built in Stanley in 1848. This later evolved into a junction station, as it lay at the point where the branch line to Forfar diverged from the Highland Main Line. The Highland Main Line still runs through the village, but the station was closed in 1956.

The Spon Lane Locks Branch is an 800-yard section of the BCN Main Line canal in Oldbury, England, which forms a connecting canal "sliproad" where the Old BCN Main Line crosses the New BCN Main Line at the Stewart Aqueduct. It runs westwards from Spon Lane Junction (underneath the M5 motorway) via the three Spon Lane Locks to Bromford Junction. British Railways undertook major railway electrification in the Greater Glasgow Area in the 1960s which was continued by British Rail with the West Coast Main Line into the 1970s. The Slow line platforms were electrified as part of the 1962 Cathcart Circle scheme through to via the West Coast Main Line. The fast line platforms were taken out of use at this time. The next electrification work was part of the 1974 West Coast Main Line electrification project when the Hamilton Circle was electrified.
Soon after Tunnel 13, Stoney Creek Station is reached, at . Within a cutting a siding branches off the main line and runs parallel and to the south of the main line, rejoining at the west end of the station. A shelter shed with an enclosed office in its south-east corner is located between the siding and the main line. The shed has an earth floor and a hipped roof, and the timber walls and posts are mounted on concrete wall and post bases.

In December 1953, Lankenau moved to Wynnewood on the Main Line, occupying the site of the former Overbrook Country Club. In October 1984, the hospital joined with Bryn Mawr Hospital and the Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital under a nonprofit umbrella organization, Main Line Health. In 2010, Main Line began renovating its 331-bed hospital, adding a 96-bed building, a parking garage, and a central utility plant. With the conversion of double rooms to private rooms, there was a net increase of fifty-five beds.
There are only a few trains that strictly run confined to the Tsushima line. Amarume Station is served by the Rikuu West Line and the Uetsu Main Line. Kingston-upon-Thames station about 1905The LSWR Kingston branch approached from the north in a wide arc; now in 1865 the company proposed to connect the town to a widened original main line, crossing Richmond Road by a level crossing, and passing under the main line near the present New Malden, running eastwards alongside the main line to Wimbledon. An Act of 16 July 1866 modified the scheme, authorising the high-level, through station at Kingston and crossing Richmond Road by a bridge. The line opened on 1 January 1869 including its Norbiton station and at Malden it burrowed under the main line and ran to Wimbledon on the south side of the line, being joined by the Epsom branch at the present Raynes Park and the Tooting Merton and Wimbledon line immediately west of Wimbledon station. There seems to have been no connections between the double track for the branches and the main line at any point west of Wimbledon itself.
Kilburn High Road railway station opened in 1852 as Kilburn & Maida Vale station by the London and North Western Railway (LNWR). At the beginning of the 20th century the station had platforms on all four lines out of Euston but with the construction of the Euston to Watford DC Line the local service took over the slow main line platforms, the slow (semi-fast) main line services were diverted through what had been the fast main line platforms and the fast main lines were moved southward. The slow (previously fast) main line platforms were almost entirely demolished during the electrification of the West Coast Main Line, with the last platform building disappearing in the 1980s when the LNWR platform canopies were removed. The current footbridge and street-level buildings are not so much the result of modernisation but of three or four major fires which have occurred here since the early 1970s.

The first batch of locos, consisting of EF64 1 to 12, were assigned to the Ōu Main Line between Fukushima and Yonezawa, where their duties included assisting KiHa 80 Tsubasa DMUs over the steep gradients. The second batch, from EF64 13 onward, were allocated to the Chuo Main Line for use primarily on freight duties. With the conversion of the Ou Main Line from 1,500 V DC to 20 kV AC electrification in October 1968, the first 12 locos were transferred to the Chuo Main Line. Nowadays, with the exception of a handful of locos owned by JR East/Central/West for charter and occasional passenger haulage, the subclass is divided evenly between Shiojiri and Aichi depots (JR Freight) at either end of the Chuo Line.
While most of the passenger services, structures and equipment were picked up by the State of New Jersey, later NJ Transit, it was absorbed into Conrail in April 1976 along with several other prominent bankrupt railroads of the northeastern United States. Only two of the railroad's steam locomotives were preserved: CNJ No. 592 & CNJ No. 113; the latter is the only one that is still operational. The CNJ's main line had a major presence in New Jersey. Most of the main line is now used by the Raritan Valley Line passenger service and trackage from the CNJ main line in Phillipsburg, New Jersey became part of the Lehigh Line under Conrail; the Lehigh Line is officially the former main line of the Lehigh Valley Railroad.
Although Gotham has never been served by a passenger railway station, it does lie at the end of a branch line about 2 miles in length that leads westwards from the Great Central main line, opened in March 1899. The branch used to serve a plaster factory and gypsum mines, but was closed in the early 1960s. The main line itself closed to regular services in May 1969, but the section from Loughborough to Ruddington was reopened and is now owned and operated by the Great Central Railway (Nottingham), giving access to the railway heritage centre at Ruddington. The closest main line station today is East Midlands Parkway railway station which opened early in 2008 at Ratcliffe-on-Soar providing links on the Midland Main Line.
Attempts were made to find an acceptable alternative site for stations at both the towns which would enable the operation of a through main line, but in both cases this proved impossible. The Caledonian was being urged by the F&BR; to adopt its scheme as the main line, saving eight miles (12 km) in the main line, but the gradients would be 1 in 80 and both Forfar and Brechin would be off the new main line: the Caledonian were unenthusiastic. Undeterred, promoters submitted a Bill to the 1890 Parliamentary session, and the Forfar and Brechin Railway was authorised on 4 August 1890, capital £160,000.From Carter; Ross says £330,000, page 144, but this is double the price they paid to purchase it in 1893.
The line was used for diversionary purposes on a number of occasions, especially during the Second World War, when enemy action made the main line unusable or when the main line was flooded by the River Lea. On 2 January 1945, Theobalds Grove station was damaged by a V2 rocket which exploded close by.
Smethwick Junction has two Horseley Ironworks roving bridges dated 1828. They were built as part of Thomas Telford's improvements to the Birmingham Canal. One crosses the main line to the east of the junction, and the other crosses the old main line to the west. Each bridge has a span of and the arch rises .

The mixing of stopping and non-stopping trains on the first section of the Wannsee line to Zehlendorf caused problems. Therefore, from 1907 these trains ran on the main line to Zehlendorf, where they switched to the suburban tracks. Those train terminated in the main line station of Potsdamer Bahnhof, not the separate Wannsee-station.
As of 1 April 2012, one 123 series car (KuMoHa 123-1) is operated by JR East, based at Matsumoto Depot for use on the Chuo Main Line and Shinonoi Line. Five 123 series cars (KuMoHa 123-2 to 6) are operated by JR-West on the Ube Line, Onoda Line, and Sanyo Main Line.

The station retains semaphore signalling worked from a signal box at the Plymouth end of the westbound platform. Cross-overs at either end of the main line platforms permit main line trains to reverse at Liskeard, and a sharply curved link line permits freight trains and empty passenger trains to reach the Looe line.

It also forms the eastern terminus of the 62.7 km Tobu Urban Park Line (Tobu Noda Line). Passengers can also transfer to nearby Keisei Funabashi Station on the Keisei Main Line.
This main line connected Herington, Ramona, Tampa, Durham, Waldeck, Canton, Galva, McPherson, Groveland, Inman, Medora, Hutchinson, Whiteside, Partridge, Arlington, Langdon, Turon, Preston, Natrona, Pratt. In 1888, this main line was extended to Liberal. Later, this line was extended to Tucumcari, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas. This line is called the "Golden State Limited".
Westbridge was a railroad station located on the Main Line of the Long Island Rail Road. It was located on the main line south of Jamaica Avenue. The station opened as a pair of sheltered sheds on June 28, 1916 and a ticket office at street level. The station's original name was High Bridge.
Kōzunomori Station is served by the Keisei Main Line. It lies 58.6 km from the Tokyo terminus of the Keisei Main Line at Keisei Ueno Station. It is the first station after Keisei Narita on the way towards Nippori, Ueno and Tokyo. However, Morningliner, Eveningliner or Limited Express (Green) trains do not stop here.
Wettingen is a railway station in the municipality of Wettingen in the Swiss canton of Aargau. The station is located on the Zürich to Baden main line, just west of the point where the Furttal line joins the main line. The station is served by services S6, S12 and S19 of the Zurich S-Bahn.
The area is connected by a minor passenger stop on the site of a junction with the coastal line to Portsmouth or Brighton of the South Western Main Line. The area is connected by a high-frequency timetable of buses to Southampton city centre, including its railway station, where the main line continues to Weymouth.
Otterington railway station was located in the village of South Otterington, North Yorkshire, on the East Coast Main Line. It opened in 1841 and closed in 1958. The station is now a private residence, though the platform can still be seen. The buildings date from the 1930s when the East Coast Main Line was widened.
The eastern or southbound main line along Denison Street was removed by Queensland Rail as part of its Main Line Upgrade programme. A section of the line two blocks in length was retained linking Archer Park station to its loop line; however all physical connection with the North Coast Line has now been removed.
The construction of the tramway to the Quays had not been carried out with the main line, but by October 1873 it was reported that it was completed, but could not be opened because of required alterations to the signalling on the SDR at the junction with that company's main line at Totnes. However this was soon rectified and the Quay line opened 10 November 1873; it was for goods traffic only, and was horse-operated.Except for a stub at the main line end, where locomotives were permitted after 24 August 1874.
The LT service was cut back to Amersham, with the stations beyond being serviced by BR diesel multiple units. The quadrupling was completed in June 1962. The new all-electric timetable saw 27 peak-hour trains arriving at Baker Street: 12 from Uxbridge, six from Amersham, one from Chesham and eight from Watford. The Great Central Main Line from to Sheffield was considered by Dr Beeching as an unnecessary duplication of other lines that served the same places, especially the Midland Main Line and to a lesser extent the West Coast Main Line.
Calamba station is a station on the South Main Line ("Southrail") of the Philippine National Railways, serving Calamba City in Laguna. It is one of two railway stations in the city and it is a major station on the South Main Line, serving as the junction between the South Main Line and the old Calamba- Batangas branch line which used to connect to Batangas City. It is also envisioned to be the terminus of the Commuter Express when rehabilitation work is complete. The station was first opened on January 24, 1909.
North Hawthorne was located on the NYS&W;'s Main Line, which during the years of Erie Railroad control (1898–1937) stretched from Croxton in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. At Croxton, the NYS&W;'s tracks met the Erie Railroad's Main Line. Through this junction, passenger trains on the NYS&W;'s Main Line originating as far away as Pennsylvania were able to connect to Erie's Pavonia Terminal. The area where the yard was located is within an industrial area of Hawthorne, between Utter Ave and Central Ave.
The main line and former Rhinebeck & Connecticut were abandoned northeast and east from Poughkeepsie and Rhinecliff, as well as the parallel P&E; and the main line from the state line east to Lakeville. In 1940 the main line from East Canaan to Canaan was closed, and in 1965 the line between Lakeville and Canaan was abandoned. The Hartford & Connecticut Western Railroad was owned by NH through the CNE, but was not merged by the mid-1930s when NH became bankrupt. On December 31, 1937 the H&CW; filed a reorganization plan.
From July 17, 2010, the Skyliner services were transferred from the Keisei Main Line to the Narita Sky Access route, with the introduction of new AE series EMUs. New Cityliner services using the older AE100 series trains replaced the former Skyliner on the Keisei Main Line. The new Skyliner service allows a transfer from Central Tokyo to Narita Airport in 36 minutes, 15 minutes faster than the old route via the Keisei Main Line, making it the fastest and cheapest limited express train option connecting Narita Airport with Central Tokyo.
The northbound City of New Orleans also served Gilman until November 10, 1996 The previous railroad station in Gilman was in the center of the city, located at the diamond junction between Illinois Central's main line to New Orleans and the Toledo, Peoria and Western Railway (TP&W;). The northwest quadrant of the junction contained the Illinois Central's main line to Springfield and St Louis, which split with the New Orleans main line just north of the station. The station building is still standing and is used by the Canadian National Railway's engineering department.
Rail links include the Great Eastern Main Line from Norwich to London Liverpool Street and the West Anglia Main Line connecting Cambridge to London. Sections of the East Coast Main Line run through the area and Peterborough is an important interchange on this line. The area is linked to the Midlands and north-west England by rail and has a number of local rail services, such as the Bittern Line from Norwich to Sheringham. East Anglia is ideal for cycling and National Cycle Route 1 passes through it.
The UPRR main line started in Council Bluffs, Iowa and moved west to link up with the Central Pacific Railroad line, which was built eastward from Sacramento. Construction on the UPRR main line was delayed until the American Civil War ended in 1865. Some 300 miles of main line track were built in 1865–66 over the flat prairies. The Rocky Mountains posed a much more dramatic challenge but the crews had learned to work at a much faster pace with 240 miles built in 1867 and 555 miles in 1868–69.

However, the line was at times connected to two other lines. One, the Hatfield and St Albans Railway, opened in 1865 from St. Albans Abbey station to the East Coast main line at Hatfield. Mostly a local route, the construction of the Midland main line ensured that it never became popular with the critical market of passengers to London.
The greatest change to the station during the 1920s and 1930s was the introduction of third rail electrification for all suburban and many main line services, replacing the original LB&SCR; overhead scheme by 1929 and largely replacing steam traction, except on Chatham Section main line and Oxted line trains. Services to were electrified in 1925 and Epsom the following year. By 1932 the Brighton main line was electrified, quickly followed by those to other Sussex coastal towns and Portsmouth by 1938. The brand name "Southern Electric" was applied to all these services.
The Stockholm metro () is a rapid transit system in Stockholm, Sweden. The first line opened in 1950, and today the system has 100 stations in use, of which 47 are underground and 53 above ground. There are three coloured main lines on the tube maps. These do, however, form seven actual routes (with different termini). Routes numbered 17, 18 and 19 (belonging to the green main line), 13 and 14 (red main line) and 10 and 11 (blue main line) all go through Stockholm City Centre in a very centralized metro system.
There was only one intermediate connection on the route, at Templecombe where the West of England line was crossed. There was an awkward layout there, requiring through trains to reverse along a spur between the S&D; main line and the east-west LSWR main line. The full journey time for ordinary passenger trains was typically four hours, although the limited stop holiday expresses managed it in two hours. Much of the S&D; was single track, but the main line was double track from Midford to Templecombe, and from Blandford Forum to Corfe Mullen.
From , the line heads east, diverging from the Great Western Main Line, Wessex Main Line and Heart of Wessex Line at Bristol East Junction. The line curves to the north, passing under the A4320 and then joining with a chord from the Great Western Main Line at Dr Day's Junction. At this point there are four tracks, but this narrows to two before . Continuing north, the line passes under the old Midland Railway Bristol to Gloucester Line, passes through , then diverges west from the Cross Country Route at Narroways Hill Junction.
Today, it has more through services to other lines than any other subway line in Tokyo. Keikyu operates through trains on the Keikyu Main Line to and the Keikyu Airport Line to . The Keisei Electric Railway operates through trains on the Keisei Oshiage Line to and the Keisei Main Line to , and the Shibayama Railway runs trains via the Keisei Main Line and the Shibayama Railway Line to . Via its through services with Keisei and Keikyu, the Asakusa line is the only train line that offers a direct connection between Tokyo's two main airports.
On November 30, 1908, a new Washington Street Tunnel opened for use by Main Line trains, and the whole Tremont Street subway was returned to streetcar use. The Washington Street Tunnel ran separately from the Tremont Street subway; however, because both tunnels used the newly expanded Canal Street incline, the Main Line platforms at Haymarket Square were immediately adjacent to the Tremont Street subway. Like the other Washington Street Tunnel stations, the two Main Line platforms were named after nearby streets. The northbound platform was Union and the southbound platform Friend – collectively called, Union–Friend.
On June 10, 1901, the Boston Elevated Railway's Main Line (future Orange Line) was opened from to . The Tremont Street subway was retrofitted to allow operation of the Main Line elevated cars. Main Line trains from the Charlestown Elevated entered the tunnel through the outer tracks of the Canal Street portal and exited through the Pleasant Street portal to the Washington Street Elevated. Elevated cars ran on the outer tracks at Haymarket, served by temporary high platforms; streetcars continued to use the inner tracks, which connected to a turnback loop at Adams Square station.
Originally the only rail line in the area was the D&RGW; main line which rain east-west. In 1962, a line - the Cane Creek Subdivision - was built south through the area. The line branched from the main line at Brendel towards the Cane Creek potash mine and processing plant along the Colorado River, near the terminus of State Route 279. Since this time Brendel has served as both the name of the rail siding and the junction of the potash or Cane Creek branch line with the main line.
On April 1, 1961, the section of the Abashiri Main Line from Ikeda to Kitami (renamed from Nokkeushi in 1942) was named the , and the rest of the Abashiri Main Line was absorbed into the Sekihoku Main Line. The name "Chihoku Line" was created from the on'yomi of each of the first characters for and . In 1987 Japanese National Railways (JNR), the successor to Japanese Government Railways, was privatized and JR Hokkaido took over management of the line. However, on June 4, 1989, JR Hokkaido ceased operation of the Chihoku Line.
Ohanabatake Seibu-Chichibu Station is the terminus station of the Seibu Chichibu Line, and is located 19.0 km from the line's starting point at . Some Seibu trains continue to Mitsumineguchi Station on the Chichibu Main Line of Chichibu Railway via a crossover between the two lines. Some Seibu trains also run to Nagatoro Station in the opposite direction of the Chichibu Main Line, however those trains do not stop at Seibu-Chichibu Station due to the layout of the crossover track. Ohanabatake Station on the Chichibu Main Line is within walking distance from this station.
Immediately west of the old station, there was later a three-way diverging junction, with the two outer routes leading to the LNWR main line. The centre route leads to a bridge crossing the LNWR main line as the HJR line turns south, joining the N&SWJR; at Old Oak Junction. Originally the crossing of the main line was a little to the west of the present route. Gradients on the line rise from each end to a high point in Hampstead Tunnel, the westbound gradient being steep at 1 in 98.
Both ran services between Dublin and the west of Ireland: the GS≀ running southwest to Limerick, Cork and Waterford, and the MGWR running west to , Westport, , and . The GS≀ also had designs on rail traffic to the west of Ireland. In 1859 the GS≀ opened a branch line from the Dublin – Cork main line to where it connected with the MGWR's Dublin – Galway main line. In the latter half of the 20th century Córas Iompair Éireann made this GS≀ branch part of its Dublin – Galway main line.
