Spider-Man immobilizes Thor by tricking Octavius into taking full control (making Thor unworthy to wield his hammer), and Mysterio frees Iron Man and Red Hulk by using an EMP to disable the Octobots. While Thor, Hulk and Iron Man fly up to destroy Octavius's missiles, Mysterio gives Spider-Man and Silver Sable a ship that can take them to Doctor Octopus's sea fortress, then escapes. Upon arriving, they are confronted by the Rhino (who welcomes Octavius's plan to destroy the world), who pins Sable to the floor as water begins to flood the corridor. Silver Sable orders Spider-Man to leave her.

Though she is able to do so, the stone immobilizes the two Earth women while the Zamarons gain the upper hand over Jordan. The stone asks Jordan which of the two women he desires most, and that the woman he chooses will be able to be with him forever. In response, Jordan kisses one of the Zamarons, convincing the stone to release its hostages (Cowgirl and Carol Ferris), and possess her instead. The stone reacts with its new host violently, prompting the Zamarons to retreat with her to their home planet to remove the star from their ally and discuss the gem's future.

A police officer corners them, but Swan throws a baseball bat and immobilizes him; when backup officers arrive, Swan and Mercy flee into the tunnel. The sexual tension between the two boils over into an argument, which ends with Swan spurning Mercy and continuing on to Union Square, where he reunites with the other Warriors. They get into a fight with the roller-skating, overall-clad Punks and win, and Mercy proves that she can hold her own in combat. Meanwhile, a member of a different gang visits the Riffs and tells them that he saw Luther shoot Cyrus.

Enemies are extremely fast and can kill the player in two hits; the first hit usually immobilizes the player, giving the vampire sufficient time to land a second, killing blow. Moonstone is among four Thunderbolts members present during an attack on Thunderbolts Mountain by a renegade Skrull sleeper agent Khn'nr taking the form of Captain Marvel but has refused to follow programming and has pledged to defend the human race.Secret Invasion #1 During the battle, Khn'nr reveals that her stone is of Kree origin, and uses his energy-controlling abilities to shut it down.Thunderbolts #122 When the Thunderbolts attack and board a Skrull ship, the Swordsman confronts a group of them with the newly returned Andrea von Strucker. Moonstone painfully immobilizes Swordsman, and suggests an alliance to the Skrulls and Andrea.

The few species whose biology is known are parasitoids of cockroaches; they typically inject venom into the roach that subdues or immobilizes it, and then lay one to two eggs between the legs of the defenseless roach.

In The Last Command (1993), set about a month after the previous book, Thrawn uses the Katana fleet, manned with clones, to mount a successful offensive against the New Republic. Qubit is magically revived and Max instead tries to have Annie committed for psychiatric help, but with no hospitals remaining, he is forced to have Armadale imprison her. ; Safeword/Hate Crime: An African-American, female supervillain, who possesses the magical ability to make people stop whatever actions they are doing by saying "Stop", leaving them temporarily immobilized, stunned or confused. Safeword initially works for Bellamy with Hustle and Tumult, but after witnessing the other supervillains slaughter civilians without anyone able to stop them, she decides to distance herself from them. When they prepare to sexually assault their hostage, Alana Patel, Safeword immobilizes the villains and escapes with Alana.

The time-traveling villain Dr. Anomaly observes the Key's second battle with the Justice League before launching his own attack on the superhero group. The most recent incarnation of the Key is introduced in JLA #6 (June 1997), by Howard Porter and Grant Morrison, in a teaser at the beginning of the issue. The Moon begins to fall out of orbit in JLA #7 (July 1997), and the Key is seen to not be responsible. As the Leaguers return to the Justice League Watchtower on the Moon, the Key immobilizes them. The proboscis has a muscle which attaches to the back of the rhynchocoel, and which can stretch up to 30 times its inactive length and then retract the proboscis. thumbThe proboscis of the class Anopla ("unarmed") exits from an orifice which is separate from the mouth, coils around the prey and immobilizes it by sticky, toxic secretions.

Within Obduction, small spheres of human environments, such as a portion of this house and the land in front of it, have been transported to an alien environment, and players must solve puzzles that mix the human and alien elements. The player, while at a campground, sees strange lights in the sky. One light resolves into a seed-like object that immobilizes the player and transport them and a small sphere of the park to an alien world, within the confines of a much larger sphere of Earth taken from an early-20th century Arizona mining town. They can see the alien world outside of this larger sphere, but cannot pass through it.

Taking advantage of the distraction, Spider-Girl immobilizes Superior Spider-Man's arm and reads that there will always be a Master Weaver at the center of the Great Web. Silk recalls that the Inheritors referred to her as the "Spinner at the center of the Web" and wonders if her destiny is to take the Master Weaver's place. President Ryan had sent Clark and Chavez into Tehran, the de facto capital of UIR, to target Daryaei with assistance from Russian intelligence. The Ayatollah is later killed in his residence by precision guided munitions dropped from F-117 Nighthawks.

Yasuho attempts to scout the Higashikata household but is attacked by Jobin who immobilizes her Stand in a toilet and attempts to drown her. When Mitsuba reluctantly agrees to kill Yasuho after being pressured by Jobin, her Stand is affected by Akefu when she spots him on the property, his back to her and Yasuho. Mitsuba’s Stand destroys a hole in the household, exposing the fruit graft. Upon investigation with King Nothing, Norisuke is incapacitated by Jobin's Stand, Speed King, which utilizes the power of heat to knock Norisuke unconscious. Suddenly, Mitsuba understands the nature of Satoru’s impending Stand attack: creating intense misfortune. When someone spots the head doctor's back, they are considered “pursuers” and are targeted by endless calamity and misfortune, unlucky events that violently end their victims.

Ivan Illich describes a similar process by which industry develops a technology past the point of usefulness, so much so that industry's efforts effectively sabotage its stated aims. Thus, according to Illich, intensive schooling stupefies, high speed transport immobilizes, and hospitals kill, among others. Illich believed that past this critical threshold, the product of industry served to deprive people of their native ability to subsist, to learn, move and heal autonomously, leaving them more ignorant, isolated and sick than if industry had not reached beyond the threshold of overdevelopment. There, she saves a young girl forcibly married to a violent man which reminds her of her childhood, constantly beaten by an abusive father whom she accidentally killed one day while trying to defend herself. After Frenzy destroys the militia's weapons, the Stepford Cuckoos volunteer to remove all the bad memories from Narobia's citizens, but Frenzy asks them not to do it arguing that the painful memories will help them resist when another warlord tries to subjugate them. Meanwhile, after Rogue helps citizens in New Orleans, she is warned of a helicopter needing her help, and finds out that Ms. Marvel invented such story to get close to her. Both women fight and discuss their points of view on the Phoenix Five; eventually, Rogue defeats and immobilizes Ms. Marvel, but she gets uncomfortable when Magik imprisons Ms. Marvel in a piece of Limbo brought to Earth.

Moody is also known to possess two invisibility cloaks. One of these was borrowed by Sturgis Podmore in the course of work for the Order of the Phoenix. Barty Crouch, Sr. possessed one as well, which he used to hide his son Barty Crouch, Jr. to prevent him from going to Azkaban, the wizarding prison. Several times in the series, characters have been shown to either suspect or in some other fashion "sense" that Harry is wearing his cloak: Snape is seen to be suspicious when being followed by Harry, even reaching out to grab at (what appears to be) thin air; in Half-Blood Prince, Draco Malfoy realises Harry is in his train carriage and successfully immobilizes him with a Petrificus Totalus (Body-Bind) curse, as despite wearing his cloak Harry inadvertently moved objects near him; and in Chamber of Secrets, Albus Dumbledore senses Harry and Ron beneath it in Hagrid's cabin while talking to Lucius Malfoy during the event when Cornelius Fudge comes to take Hagrid to Azkaban and Lucius Malfoy hands over to Dumbledore his suspension letter.
