In 1921 he published his second collection called Nepenthe () and also wrote a musical revue, Pell-Mell (). In 1922 he began having an affair with the poet Maria Polydouri who was a colleague of his at the Prefecture of Attica.

From 1912 onwards, possibly influenced by her relationship with Morris Harvey (with whom she appeared that year in the review Hullo, Ragtime), Minto turned more to lighter - and perhaps more lucrative - roles, taking part in a series of musicals, reviews and comedies. These included productions by Irving Berlin and Nat Ayer, with whom she and Harvey appeared in Pell Mell in 1916. In 1920 she was a member of the London offshoot of the Grand Guignol company. During the 1920s she mixed lighter and more serious roles before retiring from the stage in the mid-1930s.

The emperor in his throne, and many of the audience are either perplexed or scurry in fear. The emperor is flanked by a statue of Hercules, and a pell-mell of legionnaire standards, fasces, and a banner with the abbreviation SPQR. The white-haired, elder Peter, in his blue tunic, kneels with his keys near his feet, while the younger Saint Paul, in his green tunic, holding the sword, looks upward in admiration. The topic was appropriate for the Basilica of St Peter, specially since it was a demonstration of the power of the First Pope against nonconforming and pagan ideas.

Steve Fisk joined as keyboardist, and after making the recordings for the second album, Jon-Lars returned to his career in engineering. Over the seventeen years the band existed, it experienced a number of line-up changes and recorded for no less than five labels. The drummer, Bob Beerman remained the only constant member of Pell Mell, but its most permanent and final lineup included other notable musicians like keyboardist Steve Fisk, bassist Greg Freeman and guitarist David Spalding. Fisk is known for his extensive production work as well as his solo music career and work in Pigeonhed and the Halo Benders.

360 Nelson had devised a plan of attack that anticipated the allied fleet would form up in a traditional line of battle. Drawing on his own experience from the Nile and Copenhagen, and the examples of Duncan at Camperdown and Rodney at the Saintes, Nelson decided to split his fleet into squadrons rather than forming it into a similar line parallel to the enemy.Adkin 2007, p. 411 These squadrons would then cut the enemy's line in a number of places, allowing a pell-mell battle to develop in which the British ships could overwhelm and destroy parts of their opponents' formation, before the unengaged enemy ships could come to their aid.

Interstate is the fifth album by American post-rock and instrumental rock band Pell Mell, released in 1995. After issuing Flow in 1991, the band members wrote new material separately, sending each other ideas, until more concrete ideas were becoming formed, leading to the band recording Interstate between two studios in 1993 and 1994. Defined by a breezy, wide-open sound, Interstate features sparse, rhythmic guitar riffs, organ playing, drums and thematic instrumentation, in addition to a distinctive compositional style that has been compared to "the dynamics of a good conversation" by one critic. Additionally, the album has been considered a post-rock album and critics have noticed its display of krautrock influences.

Some of the Cavares rushed to the defence of their camp,Mommsen 1862, p. 104 but the majority remained at the location where they had been awaiting the arrival of what they had thought was all of Hannibal's army. They were divided; and Hannibal, who was on one of the first boats, landed his men on the left bank of the Rhône amidst the dazed and confused Cavares and with a will led his men in upon them. There was barely even a semblance of resistance; surrounded as they were, pandemonium took control of their ranks, and each man looked to his own safety as they retreated pell-mell away from the carefully arrayed Carthaginian phalanx.

Out of ammunition, and facing what he was sure would be yet another determined assault by the Alabamians, Col. Chamberlain decided upon a most unorthodox response: ordering his men to fix bayonets, he led what was left of his outfit in a pell-mell charge down the hill, executing a combined frontal assault and flanking maneuver that caught the 15th Alabama completely by surprise. Unbeknownst to Chamberlain, Oates had already decided to retreat, realizing that his ammunition was running low, and worried about a possible Union attack on his own flank or rear. His younger brother lay dying on the field, and the blood from his regiment's dead and wounded "was standing in puddles on some of the rocks".

The original members were Arni May, guitar, and Jon-Lars Sorenson, bass, from the Portland avant-garde group UHF; and from local Reed College Bill Owen on guitar, and Bob Beerman on drums. This iteration of the group performed and recorded the songs on their first EP release in 1981, Rhyming Guitars, which gave the group exposure over the nation's college radio network. In 1982 the foursome hired a manager, Bruce Pavitt in his pre-Sub Pop career, and did a summer tour of the US, visiting colleges and punk clubs on both coasts. Arni May left the group just as the tour was ready to hit the road, re-birthing Pell Mell as a power trio.

Interior with altar :for the Santa Maria in Portico in Rome, see Santa Maria in Campitelli Chiesa di Santa Maria in Portico is a late-baroque church in the city center of Naples placed at the end of its homonymous street, just off the seaside promenade of the Riviera di Chiaia. While the original architect was Nicola Longo in 1632; the facade was completed by Arcangelo Guglielmelli in a pell-mell concoction of Mannerist and Baroque styles, utilizing columns and pilasters of varying sizes, volutes, and even obelisks with typical Neapolitan appeal to color differences. Among the wealth of interior artwork are frescoes by Giovanni Battista Benaschi and interior architectural sculpture by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro. In addition, there is an Annunciation by Fabrizio Santafede and an Assumption by Paolo de Matteis.

Pell Mell were struggling to think of a name for the album, leading graphic designer Clifford Stoltze to recommend the name Interstate, as a reference to the band members living "in four different cities [being] able to stay together by sending audio tapes through the mail and traveling to meet for recording sessions;" the band agreed on the name. Stoltze then worked with Beerman, himself also a graphic designer, on designing the album sleeve, by pulling together an "abundance of materials." The album cover depicts a photograph that Stoltze snapped on a road trip through Wyoming, while other photographs taken by band members are also used in the album sleeve. Taking inspiration from the album title, Stoltze chose the Interstate typeface for the band's name on the cover.

287 The writer Kurt Gänzl sums up the failure: :...the setting of the lyrics proved rather too much for Grossmith, whose musical talent, though tuneful and amusing, was definitely on the small scale. The songs added nothing to the play and indeed, by breaking down the plot and slowing the pell-mell pace of the action, exposed the improbability of the situations. After a first night which evoked some wrathful comments from a disappointed audience, Haste to the Wedding survived only twenty-two performances.Gänzl, p. 435 At Chichester (1975) and Exeter (1976), an adaptation was created using Gilbert's The Wedding March as a starting point, adding the lyrics and music from Haste to the Wedding, as well as additional original lyrics written to music adapted from Jacques Offenbach’s Barbe-Bleue.

In 1869 she made a similar arrangement with the Pennsylvania Hospital, where in November 1869, a group of about thirty of Woman's Med students were verbally and physically harassed by male medical students. Anna Broomall, 1871 graduate of Woman's Med and future faculty member, recalled "the [male] students rushed in pell-mell, stood up in the seats, hooted, called us names and threw spitballs, trying in vain to dislodge us." The incident sparked very public debates in the local and national press about the propriety of the presence of female medical students at clinical demonstrations but the result was the inevitability and acceptance of co-ed clinics. In addition to educating medical students and advocating for woman physicians, Dr. Preston also practiced medicine, attending at Woman's Hospital and maintaining her own private practice.

The Battle of Trafalgar by J. M. W. Turner (oil on canvas, 1822–1824) combines events from several moments during the battle Napoleon, increasingly dissatisfied with Villeneuve's performance, ordered Vice-Admiral François Rosily to go to Cádiz and take command of the fleet, sail it into the Mediterranean to land troops at Naples, before making port at Toulon. Villeneuve decided to sail the fleet out before his successor arrived. On 20 October the fleet was sighted making its way out of harbour by patrolling British frigates, and Nelson was informed that they appeared to be headed to the west.

The Washington Post. B15. Jan Dawson of The Monthly Film Bulletin wrote, "Perhaps it is pedantic to complain that the whole is not up to the sum of its parts when, for the curate's egg that it is, Blazing Saddles contains so many good parts and memorable performances." John Simon wrote a negative review of Blazing Saddles, saying, "All kinds of gags—chiefly anachronisms, irrelevancies, reverse ethnic jokes, and out and out vulgarities—are thrown together pell-mell, batted about insanely in all directions, and usually beaten into the ground." The film grossed $119.5 million at the domestic box office, becoming only the tenth film up to that time to pass the $100 million mark. On the film-critics aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an 88% approval rating based on 59 reviews, with a weighted average of 8.1/10.

In 1996 the band's first full length, Too Bright, Just Right, Good Night was released on the Minneapolis Skene! label. Actionslacks' second LP, One Word (a reference to the spelling of their name as well as a nod to the influence of Overwhelming Colorfast's second album Two Words) was recorded in 1997 and released in 1998 by the Arena Rock Recording Company. The band toured with labelmates Harvey Danger and an ascendant Death Cab for Cutie in support of the record. Wijsen left the band in late-1998 and Scanlin and Kelly began working on more pop-oriented songs, first with producers Greg Freeman (Pell Mell, Virginia Dare) and Jeff Palmer (Granfalloon Bus, Sunny Day Real Estate, Mommyheads) and later with new band members Aaron Rubin (bass; Mr. T Experience, Samiam) and Chuck Lindo (guitar and vocals; The Nukes, Jumbo Shrimp, The American Professionals).

There was only the usual number of policemen and watchmen in attendance, and the panic was such for a few moments that it seemed as if all the audience believed the entire building was in flames, and just ready to fall upon their devoted heads. In addition to what Mr. BOOTH said from the stage, Judge McCLUNN rose in the dress circle, and in a few timely remarks admonished them all to remain quietly in their places, and at the same time tried to show them the danger which would attend a pell- mell rush for the doors, and especially the uselessness of it, inasmuch as the theatre part of the building was known to be on fire. The presence of a squad of policemen soon after so reassured the audience that with a few exceptions, they remained until the close of the performance. The city was saved, as was The Winter Garden Theatre.

" Sealts contributed an essay on Billy Budd to John Bryant (ed.), A Companion to Melville Studies (Greenwood Press, 1986) which book Parker reviewed in Nineteenth-Century Literature (1988), describing the essay as "one of the series of classic pieces Sealts has been publishing pell mell since his retirement, the most impressive string of articles any Melvillean has yet produced." In 1987 Sealts was the main editor of Melville's The Piazza Tales and Other Prose Pieces, which contained the texts of Melville's lectures that Sealts reconstructed in 1957. He also decided what attributed pieces were to be included. Calling Sealts "the undisputed authority on Melville's short prose works, and a pioneer in the movement to appreciate their artistic worth," Lea Newman praised his "impeccably documented and flawlessly written 'Historical Note'" and described his research as "an exercise in literary sleuthing of consummate skill," his involvement "both informs and validates this edition as nothing else could.

" The last two lines are evidence of Burns' alteration of the original stanza five which read: > "Their cogs o'brose, they scar'd at blows, > And homeward fast did flee, man." In stanza six, Burns changed the original lines: > "Lord Panmuir is slain, > Or in his en'mies' hands man," To negate the more general observation about "en'mies" to provide a much more specific account: > "Or fall'n in Whiggish hands, man." That Scottish Tories gave their lives, while Whigs ran away, is the final wry observation, enlarged from three lines to four: > "Then ye may tell, how pell an mell, > By red claymores and musket's knell, > Wi'dying yell, how Tories fell, > And Whigs to hell, > Flew off in frighted bands, man." However, a pen stroke through these very lines indicates Burns' dissatisfaction with them and his earlier three-line version is allowed to stand on the final page: > "Say, pell mell, wi' muskets' knell > How Tories fell, and Whigs to hell, > Flew off in frighted bands, man.

In the absence of effective motivation and control from their leaders, a unit that has taken heavy casualties and/or believes itself about to be surrounded, annihilated or overrun by a superior force may suddenly disintegrate into a state of self-perpetuating mass panic, with each combatant running pell-mell in a herd mentality towards a place of imagined safety (usually directly away from the enemy). A force which has retreated thus is said to have "routed", "broken", "fled the field" or declared "every man for himself" ().

Coming from the Hyon-ni area on a line of march projecting to Hajinbu- ri were the KPA 6th and 12th Divisions of V Corps and moving toward Hajinbu-ri on a parallel course just to the east were the KPA 2nd and 27th Divisions of II Corps, which, after failing in frontal attacks against ROK I Corps, had shifted west in an apparent attempt to envelop the ROK. PVA/KPA action decidedly had slackened on the X Corps' front during the afternoon of 19 May after the 181st Division gave up its attack on the 23rd Infantry in the Han'gye area. But, with PVA continuing to mass ahead of the 2nd Division, the slack appeared to be mostly a result of attempts to move fresh units forward to take over the assault. Although the pell-mell withdrawal of ROK III Corps had taken its scrambled forces out of contact, the passage of PVA in strength southeastward through Habaejae and beyond presaged heavy action along Route 20.

It should hold and fascinate spectators for its two- and-a-half hours of sheer, pell-mell movie making, even though characters are stereotypes whose melodramatics are as dated as the period itself." Awarding the film four complete stars, Dorothy Masters of the New York Daily News wrote: "A powerful drama of global interest, the film has integrity, a component frequently lost in the razzle-dazzle dangled by so many multi-million-dollar colossals.

Interstate was released by major label DGC on 25 April 1995 in the United States as their first and only album on a major label. Many have commented on the unlikeliness of the album's release on DGC; Ned Raggett wrote: "the idea that Pell Mell would have ended up on a company run by David Geffen must have seemed truly bizarre when the band first started, but that's what a little Nirvana can do for bands (and so it must have seemed for many an alternative outfit in the early '90s)." Similarly, in 2013, Spin ranked the album at number 13 in its list of the "40 Weirdest Post-Nevermind Major Label Albums," with Andrew Earles of the magazine saying: In addition to CD and cassette editions, the album was also released as a translucent gold LP in the United States. The album was a mild radio success, reaching number 34 on CMJ's "Top 75 Alternative Radio Play" chart, compiled from airplay reports of the most played alternative releases on around 500 different commercial, non-commercial and college radio stations.

Tchad Blake (born 1955) is an American record producer, audio engineer, mixer and musician. A native of Baytown, Texas, he has worked with numerous artists and musicians, including Arctic Monkeys, State Radio, Pell Mell, Apartment 26, Elvis Costello, Peter Gabriel, Pearl Jam, Tom Waits, Richard Thompson, Brazilian Girls, Gerard Way, Sheryl Crow, November 2nd, T-Bone Burnett, Travis, Marike Jager, Crowded House, Finn Brothers, Liam Finn, The Pretenders, Bernard Fanning, Los Lobos, The Bad Plus, Sam Phillips, Suzanne Vega, Ani DiFranco, The Bangles, Stina Nordenstam, Phish, Bonnie Raitt, Lisa Germano, Fishbone, Al Green, Tracy Chapman, Phantom Planet, Gomez, The Dandy Warhols, American Music Club, Jed Davis, Blitzen Trapper, Cibo Matto, Haley Bonar, David Rhodes, Fiona Apple, Tom Gallo, The Black Keys, U2, Nico Vega, Halloween, Alaska, Kula Shaker and Soul Coughing, and Delta Spirit, The Last Shadow Puppets among others.
