Schaffner and Mr. Byrum have effectively demolished what could have possibly been a decently absurd archeological-adventure film. The locations . . . are so badly and tackily used that the movie could have been shot more economically in Queens . . . The performers are terrible, none more so than Mr. Langella, who is supposed to be mysterious and romantic but behaves with all of the charm of a room clerk at the Nile Hilton.

Evie Harris (Jack Plotnick) is a washed-up, alcoholic, aging C-List actress (star of kinescope, stage, television, and film in such works as the TV special Christmas Evie, vaudeville-era appearances promoting 'Dr. Vim's Miracle Elixir,' Court TV: Celebrities Who Kill, Tabitha and the sad 1970s disaster epic Asteroid [tagline: 'Earth Might Get Crushed!']). She lives in a tackily out-of-style bungalow with Coco (Clinton Leupp), a homely, lonely, doormat of a spinster who carries a torch for the handsome young doctor who performed her abortion years ago. Evie's life is turned upside-down by the arrival of a new roommate, Varla Simonds (Jeffery Roberson), the voracious, starry-eyed daughter of Evie's rival, late actress Marla Simonds (whose claims to fame included playing Chesty on Fill Her Up, the short-lived but widely acclaimed spinoff of C.P.O. Sharkey, and almost being cast as the lead in "Asteroid" before Evie captured that "breakout" role).

Namrata Joshi of The Hindu reviewed the film saying that, "Disjointed, tackily put together with no sense of drama and direction, it will be difficult to top this one on the inanity stakes this year." Sukanya Verma of Rediff gave the film a rating of 1 out of 5 saying that, "Just when it looks our film-making is moving away from idolising toxic archetypes for the sake of romantic fulfillment, Aleya Sen's Dil Juunglee comes along and squashes it in entirety." Umesh Panwani of Koimoi gave the film a rating of 1 out of 5 saying that, "Dil Juunglee is one of those films you give someone a dare to watch.
