Florentine painting, if not portraiture, often was intellectual, academic, and focused on allegory, mythology, or religious themes. Genre topics and still life studies were rare for the high-minded Florentines. In addition, nearly all Italian painting until that time depicted indoor settings or included urban landscapes, and if not, the landscape was unmemorable sfumato dissipating in the distance. The summer season evoked by the fruit and the reposing figures in the fresco is powerful as well as soothing.

In 1981, Polish trade union Solidarity erected a memorial with the simple inscription "Katyn, 1940". It was confiscated by the police and replaced with an official monument with the inscription: "To the Polish soldiers—victims of Hitlerite fascism—reposing in the soil of Katyn". Sundial to view stars According to legend, a Chola king named Muchukunda obtained a boon from Indra(a celestial deity) and wished to receive an image of Thyagaraja Swamy(presiding deity, Shiva in the temple) reposing on the chest of reclining Lord Vishnu. Indra tried to misguide the king and had six other images made, but the king chose the right image at Tiruvarur. The temple is believed to have been initiated with a large complex by the Pallavas during the 7th century. Contemporary history of the temple dates back to the time of the Medieval Cholas.

Effigy of William de Harrington, former Rector of St Chad's There are a number of historical monuments in St Chad's Church, two of the most notable are located in the south aisle and are dedicated to former priests. The largest of these is an effigy of William de Harrington dating from 1346,This is not to be confused with a further memorial to a W. Harrington, Rector, who died in 1697. which shows him reposing on a pillow supported on two angels whilst dressed in cassock, hood and pileolus whilst at his feet are images of the green man. There is also a large stone slab bearing the figure of a fully vested Norman priest of "Harpperswelle" called John Gere, who died around 1300.

In 1851, William Bollaert FRGS of the Royal Geographical Society became lost in the Leesville area, generally describing it as “Big Hill prairies.” He found the soil to be “rich looking” and “black, reposing upon recent sandstone, forming beautifully undulating lands.” Herds of mustangs, wild horses, wolves and forests of pecan trees were described. Near Guadalupe River, he found the land “fit for all agricultural purposes, although the surface soil is sandy,” the sand upon masses of silicon containing selenite. He found chiltepin peppers to be “most abundant.” The main Capote Hill was described as a “conspicuous object...isolated in the prairie” at “350 feet above.” Within, he found disintegrated limestone, gypsum, oyster and other shells; compromising a great variety of former marine life. In 1852, Frederick Law Olmsted, then-future designer of New York City’s Central Park; noted the area’s principal species of trees as pecan, hickory, cypress, cotton wood, box elder, white oak and walnut.

The endpapers of Unwin Hyman's and Houghton Mifflin's 1990 edition of Bilbo's Last Song show Bilbo, Elrond, Galadriel and Gildor riding with a company of elves through an autumnal landscape, watched by a variety of woodland creatures. The text of the poem is then presented in twelve full-colour two-page spreads, each dedicated to a single couplet. The couplets are printed on the verso pages, each with a unique illuminated first letter and with a unique painting of a reposing Bilbo beneath. The recto pages present roundels narrating Bilbo's journey from retirement in Rivendell to his arrival at "fields and mountains ever blest": Bilbo is seen at his desk, looking out across the ravine of the Bruinen, talking to Elrond, mounting his horse, riding through the Shire, crossing Woody End, arriving at the Far Downs, meeting Círdan and Gandalf, hugging Sam, greeting Merry and Pippin, setting sail and nearing the Undying Lands.

Embellishment of the buildings continued after their opening; the building was closed for three months in 1897 to enable plasterwork to be painted and gilded, and before that in 1894 full-sized plaster maquettes of three of William Calder Marshall's sculptures were installed: Dancing Girl Reposing, Zephyr and Aurora, and Eurydice - the last since lost (by Wandsworth council, upon its transfer to their town hall). In 1895 a glass and iron porch was built to provide shelter outside the Grand Hall entrance. Perhaps the single feature neglected by the vestry during the original construction was the installation of an electric lighting system; in 1896-7 a 100 V system was retrofitted, served by a dedicated generator, and in 1901-2 a higher voltage system served by the borough's Lombard Road power station was introduced. Additions were made at the time of incorporation of Battersea as one of London's metropolitan boroughs in 1900, in the form of an additional refreshment room catering for up to 400 people, as well as additional office space; provision for these had been made in the original plans, although practical difficulties necessitated compromises in providing adequate access to the new rooms.

Hugo Black The decision of the case, written by Justice Hugo Black, found the case largely indistinguishable from the previous year's Hirabayashi v. United States decision, and rested largely on the same principle: deference to Congress and the military authorities, particularly in light of the uncertainty following Pearl Harbor.
