It is their first to be produced by Pip Williams and the first to feature Andy Bown as a regular contributor to the band; he would later join the band officially in 1982. The Poxy Boggards are an American folk band based in Pasadena. The band was founded in 1994 by Stuart Venable and Bill Roper, and first performed that year at the Southern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire. Since that time, they have achieved success in the re-burgeoning Irish-folk movement, playing with bands such as The Fenians. The 13 members of the band are all singers and instrumentalists.

POxy 1464 (or P. Oxy. XII 1464) is a document that was found at the city of Oxyrhynchus in Egypt. This document was given to a Roman citizen to certify performance of a pagan sacrifice, hence demonstrating loyalty to the authorities of the Roman Empire. Such a document is called a libellus (plural libelli), and this was one of four libelli found at Oxyrhynchus.

In January 2010, the Dockers brand launched a cross-channel advertising campaign with the tagline "Wear The Pants." The campaign premiered during the 2010 Super Bowl, and was the first Super Bowl advertisement to offer an exclusive, limited time online offer for viewers. The ad also featured "I Wear No Pants" by the Poxy Boggards. The Dockers campaign tagline, "Wear The Pants" was marketed as a call to masculinity for men.

Roper was also the CEO of Flagship Studios, makers of Hellgate: London and Mythos, where several members of the band did voice-over work for Mythos. The Song "Bring Us More Beer" was re-recorded by Stu Venable, Bill Roper, Heather Green, and Elspeth Golden as an instrumental track re-titled "Bring Us More" for the Pirates of the Caribbean play set in Disney Infinity.

It is likely that his appearance is considered attractive on his home planet, although his general appearance is derisively described as a "one-eyed noodle", by both Hämsterviel and Jumba on different occasions in the movies and the series. Major Wilton-Smythe (played by Peter Cellier), commonly known simply as "the major", only appears in the first two series, and hopelessly lusts after Hyacinth even though he is married to a never-seen wife, whom he refers to as "the ball and chain". He fought in World War II and is a veteran of the British North African Campaign against Erwin Rommel. The Major lives in a large house called The Laurels, which is just around the corner from Hyacinth and Richard's bungalow. In "Golfing with the Major", he reveals he was wounded in the leg somewhere east of Suez, and he still has "some poxy foreign lead in there somewhere".

Their music has been described as a mix of tight, right harmonies, rocking instrumentation with traditional folk instruments and an irreverent, often shocking sense of humor and lack of decorum. The Boggards have played at numerous venues throughout Southern California, including the Galaxy Theatre, the House of Blues in Anaheim, the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, and the Musicians Institute in Hollywood. At the 2006 Just Plain Folks Music Awards, they received Best Celtic Album for Liver Let Die and Live Act of the Year for their 2004 performance at the awards show. On Sunday, February 7, 2010, one of the Poxy Boggards' songs (I Wear No Pants from their CD Liver Let Die) was featured in a commercial for Levi-Strauss/Dockers, which aired during Super Bowl XLIV.

Finer told NME, "I had written two songs complete with tunes, one had a good tune and crap lyrics, the other had the idea for 'Fairytale' but the tune was poxy, I gave them both to Shane and he gave it a Broadway melody, and there it was". The song's title, the musical structure and its lyrical theme of a couple's conversation were in place by the end of 1985, and were described by MacGowan in an interview with Melody Maker in its 1985 Christmas issue: MacGowan had decided to name the song after J. P. Donleavy's 1973 novel A Fairy Tale of New York, which Finer was reading at the time and had left lying around the recording studio. In the same Melody Maker interview MacGowan expressed regret that the song had not been completed in time to be released for Christmas that year, and hinted that the track would appear on an EP that the Pogues were due to record shortly. In January 1986 the group recorded the song during the sessions with Costello that would produce the Poguetry in Motion EP, with bass player Cait O'Riordan singing the female part.
