He recorded the song and "Moonage Daydream" with Arnold Corns the same month. Although it was released as both an A-side and a B-side, the song flopped and prompted Bowie to rewrite it to fit the Ziggy narrative. In the narrative, Ziggy is put in front of the crowd, and emphasises the metaphor that rock music goes from sex to fulfillment and back to sex again; he plans to abandon the sexual climax for a chance at stardom, which ultimately leads to his downfall.

In 1696 the Pow was brought under the formal management of a drainage commission (similar to the internal drainage boards of England and Wales) by the "Act in favour of Sir Robert Murray of Abercairney and other heritors upon the Pow of Inchaffray" passed by the Parliament of Scotland. He retired from the Council in 2014, to devote more time to research and writing and became a historian of social and labour movements. Following his promotional tour of America in February 1971, Bowie returned to Haddon Hall in England and began writing songs, many of which were inspired by the diverse musical genres that were present in America. Composing on piano rather than acoustic guitar like he had previously done, he wrote over three-dozen songs, many of which would appear on his fourth studio album Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust; among these were "Moonage Daydream" and "Hang On to Yourself", which he recorded with his short-lived band Arnold Corns in February 1971, and subsequently rerecorded for Ziggy Stardust. Work officially begun on Hunky Dory on 8 June 1971 at Trident Studios in London. The sessions featured the musicians who would later become known as the Spiders from Mars – comprising Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder and Mick Woodmansey.

Some claim that none were included in the surrender at Appomattox because it had cut through the Federal lines and disbanded, and that the field officers were Colonels James M. Corns and Walter H. Jenifer; Lieutenant Colonels Thomas P. Bowen, A.F. Cook, Henry Fitzhugh, and Albert G. Jenkins; and Major P.M. Edmondson. However, 2nd Lt. Hezekiah Harmon of Company A swore as a witness to the pension application of Angelina James, widow of S.P. James of the same company, that he and James surrendered at Appomattox on April 9, 1865, and that he "was present and saw all that I have stated". Validating Harmon's statement is the statement of the Adjutant General of the War Department of the United States, Brigadier General George Andrews, on November 21, 1912, on Angelina James' pension application, that "the records show that one S.P. James (not found as Stephen Porter James), private, Company A, 8th Virginia Cavalry, Confederate States Army, was enlisted June 27, 1863; that he was surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, and was paroled at that place April 9, 1865." West Heath is represented on Birmingham City Council as part of the Ward of Longbridge And West Heath by two councillors:- Debbie Clancy (Conservative) and Brett O'Reilly (Labour) who were elected on 3 May 2018 to serve a four year term.
