They are often portrayed as guides and/or purveyors of knowledge who help the user progress within the game like in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim For instance, Monkey Island II: LeChuck's Revenge, a PC game from 1991, features a notably large library, complete with a female librarian who wheels around in her chair between shelves and shushes the protagonist. Then there is Stardew Valley an indie role-playing game released in 2016, features a town library and museum, staffed by Gunther, the museum curator. The museum is empty at the beginning of the game, and Gunther asks players to help fill it by donating artifacts and minerals and finding the library's lost books.

Similarly, the The Librarian in Terry Pratchett's Discworld fantasy series, a once-human wizard who manages the library at the Unseen University, Lucien serves on the Dream palace staff as chief librarian in Neil Gaiman's The Sandman series, and Welcome to Nightvale's Rabid Librarians will go to incredibly violent ends to ensure that the community is reading. Finally, ,any of the central cast of characters in The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins refer to themselves as librarians, though their skillsets tend to be far more magical and violent that your average librarian stereotype.

The sleepy Statue (who is also a bit senile) talks about how they are not meant for each other based on his own "experience", as it's revealed that the king's portrait has also come to life as well who listens in on their conversation. The star-crossed lovers reach out of their paintings to hold hands, but the king's dog suddenly wakes up and growls; the Chimney Sweep shushes the dog who goes back to bed. As the Chimney Sweep jumps from his painting to the Shepherdess's, the Portrait King unfurls the cloth covering his painting to the shock of the couple; he declares his love for the Shepherdess but denounces the Chimney Sweep and confirms with the Statue that the king always gets the girl, the Statue confirms this and declares that the Portrait King and the Shepherdess will wed when the clock strikes 12 (right before he returns to sleep), as it is revealed that it's 5 minutes until that time. The Chimney Sweep hurls a fruit from the Shepherdess's painting at the Portrait King (blinding him), which he then proceeds to take his ladder and use it to help the Shepherdess and himself escape from their paintings.
