Kincardine is known for its sandy beaches including Station Beach, located at the mouth of the Penatangore River. Adjacent to the beach is Kincardine Harbour which boasts Kincardine's iconic lighthouse where the "Phantom Piper" pipes down the sun every evening (except Saturdays) in the summer through to Labour Day. On summer Saturday evenings Kincardine hosts a Pipe Band Parade where the Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band parades from Victoria Park down Queen Street. The Friends was formed in 2001 when development on steep slopes near the creek's artesian spring source threatened its existence and quality. The friends were eventually successful in preventing the later determined illegal development which was in violation of grade limits for steepness. The FGC fund-raise money and work to create awareness of the watershed and its importance to the area. The creek passes through Hilltop Green, under Interstate 80 via pipes, down a small canyon alongside Hilltop Plaza Shopping Center, and then through culverts to a gorge where it has been dammed to create Hilltop Lake.

Lake Tassenbach (), source of water for Amlach power station Amlach power station () is a diversionary-run-of-the-river hydroelectricity power generating station on the Drava river in Austria. The power station is operated by Tiroler Wasserkraft (TIWAG) on river water flowing between Tassenbach, Strassen, Tyrol and Amlach, near Lienz. It is the only run-of- river power station in Tyrol. A small natural lake next to Tassenbach railway station is used for water extraction and daily buffering ("pondage"), then the water flows via underground pipes down a height of to the power station at Amlach, where two 60-Megawatt Francis turbines are installed, after which the water is returned to the river Drava via a short draft tube and tail race.

It was supposed to be located near the modern town of Sibari in Calabria on the coast of Southern Italy near the Crati and Coscile rivers but eventually was buried by silt. His archaeological and historical research, along with geological and geographical reconnaissance, led him to believe the city lay now on both sides of the Crati. Archaeologists had traditionally used a trench system to investigate sites and in the early 1930s the Italian government had excavated two parallel drainage ditches to alleviate the area of its malarial swamp. In 1950, inspired by methods used by Italian well diggers, he invented the core-sampling method, hiring several well diggers (and their oxen) to pound pipes down into the earth, bring up the pipes and deposit their contents into long wooden boxes to be examined.
