Miter saws are inherently low- hazard as the work piece is held stationary against a fence while the saw head moves, making kick-back almost impossible, and normally allowing hands to be kept clear of the blade. Also the saw head is usually drawn back, then lowered and fed forward through the material so that binding is unlikely. B&O; Railroad Bridge (July 2010 photo) In 1977, the Chessie System, then-owner of the bridge, did engineering studies of the swing bridge mechanisms and determined that extensive rehabilitation was needed. Yet the project was placed on hold for decades, despite associated FRA violations and operational difficulties. In late 2003, Chessie successor CSX Transportation finally undertook the renovation. The project included extensive work on the miter rails, the mechanisms that allow the rails to be connected and disconnected as the bridge is opened and closed.

The newly independent Dutch Republic officially became a Protestant country and abolished public Catholic celebrations. Nevertheless, the Saint Nicholas feast never completely disappeared in the Netherlands. In Amsterdam, where the public Saint Nicholas festivities were very popular, main events like street markets and fairs were kept alive with persons impersonating Nicholas dressed in red clothes instead of a bishop's tabard and miter. The Dutch government eventually tolerated private family celebrations of Saint Nicholas' Day, as can be seen on Jan Steen's painting The Feast of Saint Nicholas.

The Brandon Road Lock and Dam is a lock and dam complex along the Des Plaines River in Joliet, Illinois. The complex was built from 1927 to 1933 in conjunction with the construction of the Illinois Waterway, which allowed for barge travel between Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River. The lock and dam are also used to regulate water levels on the river between Lockport and Joliet. The lock at the complex is and has four Miter gates, with a 34-foot (10.3 meter) drop.

The praying mantid Empusa fasciata has a tapering head with a miter-like helmet, oval compound eyes, slender raptorial forelegs and a long thin thorax. E. fasciata often bends sharply upward at the abdomen, making the thorax appear even longer. The ventral abdomen and the femurs of the long thin walking legs have distinct lobules, which serve as camouflage. Due to its bizarre shape and the yellowish-green striped pattern of the legs, E. fasciata is well-camouflaged in vegetation, and is noticeable only when in motion.

The mitre (British English) (; Greek: μίτρα, "headband" or "turban") or miter (American English; see spelling differences), is a type of headgear now known as the traditional, ceremonial headdress of bishops and certain abbots in traditional Christianity. Mitres are worn in the Catholic Church, Orthodox Church, as well as in the Anglican Communion, some Lutheran churches, and also by bishops and certain other clergy in the Eastern Catholic Churches and the Oriental Orthodox Churches. The Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church also wears a mitre during important ceremonies such as the Episcopal Consecration.

Since the prophet Claudius Aichel (1666–1683) the abbots of the monastery were given the right to bear the miter. Several parishes were also incorporated into the monastery, namely Bavaria, Aidenbach, Alburg, Hartkirchen, Pocking and Mittich, and also in Austria Alkofen, Grieskirchen, Münichreith, Neukirchen, Wimsbach, Roitham at the Traunfall and Pollham. Most modern miter saws have self-retracting blade guards, which automatically retract when the saw is lowered onto a workpiece and re-cover the blade when the saw is raised. It is very dangerous to use the saw if these guards are removed or damaged. A dust bag connects directly to the saw, and helps to collect sawdust away from the workpiece during cutting. Lafayette steamboat landing, 1938 In the 1930s a series of forest fires, known as the Tillamook Burn greatly increased the amount of salvaged logs shipped down the Yamhill River through the lock. An important railroad trestle also burned, which left the river as the best remaining transport. In 1939 the number of logs transported on the Yamhill river was over two hundred times greater than what it had been in 1931. The lock was closed from May 25 to June 20, 1935 while new lock gates were installed and repairs made to the miter sills.

Jacobins of Toulouse, illustration from the Dictionary of Viollet-le-Duc In an area poor in stone, the typical construction material was brick, whose use in the Southern French Gothic of the regions of Toulouse, Montauban and Albi became one of its distinguishing marks. The builders used techniques adapted to this material, such as the miter arches typical of this style. Brick lends itself to geometric decorative compositions, and consequently, there are few sculptures integrated into the architecture. Depending on the type of clay used, the bricks can be molded or rounded by abrasion.

Vega announced the discovery of the heart, an unusual bas relief or sculpture carved from an adobe beam supporting the choir loft at the church entry, being hidden for centuries inside the old wooden ceiling. Inverted and pierced with arrow, it is unlike other parts of the church, particularly above entry doors. Churches also had centuries-old bas reliefs all depicting emblems of St. Augustine (his book City of God, his miter, and a church). Her heart is supposed to symbolize sufferings because of Augustine's previous sinfulness.

Sigüenza played a large part in the civil wars of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Astrophytum myriostigma, the bishop's cap cactus, bishop's hat or bishop's miter cactus, is a species of cactus native to the highlands of northeastern and central Mexico. Synonyms include Echinocactus myriostigma, Astrophytum prismaticum, A. columnare, A. tulense, and A. nuda. A. myriostigma is a spineless cactus defined by the presence of three to seven (usually five) pronounced vertical ribs which define the cactus' shape when young (the genus name "astrophytum", literally, "star plant", is derived from the resulting star-like shape). As the cactus ages, more ribs may be added and it becomes more cylindrical in shape, growing up to about tall and in diameter.

Radial Arm Saw A radial arm saw is a cutting machine consisting of a circular saw mounted on a sliding horizontal arm. Invented by Raymond DeWalt in 1922, the radial arm saw was the primary tool used for cutting long pieces of stock to length until the introduction of the power miter saw in the 1970s. In addition to making length cuts, a radial arm saw may be configured with a dado blade to create cuts for dado, rabbet or half lap joints. In addition some radial arm saws allow the blade to be turned parallel to the back fence, allowing a rip cut to be performed.

Luminol tests revealed that the floor of Berdella's basement, and two plastic trash barrels, were extensively bloodstained. 334 Polaroid pictures and 34 snapshot prints of various male individuals were also found stowed in various locations within Berdella's house; these pictures showed Christopher Bryson and several other men both in life and in death, and many of the images had been taken as the subjects had been tortured.

The rules by which alliterative verse was composed in Middle English are unclear and have been the subject of much debate. The collective also said no penalties should have been imposed upon them because it was not legitimate. In June 1873 the emperor decided that the fraternities were correct and that the bishop risked breaching the constitution and so ordered the bishop to lift all interdicts which he failed to do. He remained indifferent to this and continued his bold activism against the lodges. But the prosecutor-general brought charges against him to the Supreme Court of Justice who accepted the charges and issued a warrant for the bishop's arrest. The bishop was arrested at his residence on 2 January 1874 the charge of violating the constitution; the police knocked on his door to see him emerge in his full episcopal attire with his miter and staff in hand.

The only way to find the exact place to find the massgrave which was created by the fight, cause the writings from that time can't be used now because those aren't true for the lie of the land of these days (mostly cause of the location of the forests and the meadows). Before the battle at Vác Géza promised that if they won, he would make the Minster of the Miter of Vác in Honor of Mary be built.

On April 13, 1865, a Paraguayan fleet of 5 ships (Tacuarí, Paraguari, Marques de Olinda, Ygurey and Ypora) under the command of Pedro Ignacio Meza went down the Paraná River until reaching the port of the city of Corrientes, where they captured two ships of them that were under repair, the 25 de Mayo and the Gualeguay. The following day, a contingent of 3,000 men led by General Wenceslao Robles, transported by river, disembarked at the port and occupied the city without resistance. News of the invasion arrived with considerable impact in Buenos Aires, also thanks to the fact that the Paraguayan declaration of war had been hidden from the Argentine public. President Miter, in the midst of a violent demonstration against Paraguay, delivered a famous speech in which he said: Gentlemen, after the provocation was launched, after the insult perpetrated on our flag by the tyrant of Paraguay, whoever governs you cannot tell you anything other than that the proclamations and demonstrations will be translated into facts, and that in twenty-four hours we will be in the barracks, in fifteen days on the battlefield and in three months in Asunción.
