According to one source, New Orleans-born drummer Earl Palmer "was the first to use the word 'funky' to explain to other musicians that their music should be made more syncopated and danceable."Obituary, The Guardian The style later evolved into a rather hard-driving, insistent rhythm, implying a more carnal quality. This early form of the music set the pattern for later musicians.

Wade soon turned to a new process with his work in photo-emulsion canvases, which quickly drew attention in the larger art world. One piece, ‘Gettin’ It on Near Cedar Hill’, a depiction of two heifers in a rather indelicate position, appeared in Art Forum in 1971, and was reviewed by Robert Pincus-Witten. Continuing this technique, Wade transferred vintage and Texas themed photos to photo-emulsion canvases on a large scale and applied color. These works include photos such as Mexican revolutionaries, a cowboy band, Texas boys and their guns, Yaquis, and his most well known, the 10' wide canvas, ‘Cowgirls on Harleys’.

In 1884, Meriwether became president of the Tennessee WCTU, and working closely with state organizer Elizabeth Lyle Saxon invigorated the temperance movement. She and Saxon also played leading roles in passing the Age of Consent Law, raising the age of consent in the state from 10 to 16, and later 18 years of age. Although the topic of sex was viewed as "indelicate" for a public debate, the activists were undeterred in advocating for their goal. In 1885, both women pushed the WCTU toward supporting women's suffrage, adding a suffrage plank to its platform and working diligently writing letters, making speeches, and traveling in Tennessee on behalf of the movement.

Knox writes that ultimately the governments decides what is an acceptable level of violence by choosing to ignore the ongoing paramilitary punishment attacks. Knox disagrees, writing that "[m]utilations, torture, beatings and exiling" must not be considered acceptable. According to a 2009 The Spectator article, although "no one is quite so indelicate as to employ the infamous phrase", the spirit of Maudling's remarks continues to be reflected in British policy. A 2018 article in The Irish Times suggested that the 158 people killed since the Good Friday Agreement were considered acceptable losses—although "no one wishes to use the term 'acceptable level of violence'"—because they come from working-class neighbourhoods.

In 1907, a young English girl, Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham Carter), and her spinster cousin and chaperone, Charlotte Bartlett (Maggie Smith), stay at the Pensione Bertolini while on holiday in Florence. They are disappointed their rooms lack a view of the Arno as promised. At dinner, they meet other English guests: the Reverend Mr Beebe (Simon Callow), two elderly spinster sisters, the Misses Alan (Fabia Drake and Joan Henley), the romance author, Eleanor Lavish (Judi Dench), the freethinking Mr Emerson (Denholm Elliott) and his handsome philosophical son, George (Julian Sands). Learning about Charlotte and Lucy's view predicament, Mr Emerson and George offer to exchange rooms, though Charlotte considers the suggestion indelicate.

Their follow-up single, Julia, We Don't Live in the 60s, was released in July 2007 – their first to be widely distributed around the UK. The last single to precede the album release was Sixteen, released in October 2007. Their début album, American Demo, was released to the UK on Weekender Records on 14 April 2008. In July 2009 The Indelicates published their first collection of lyrics and poems – Words by Simon & Julia Indelicate. The band's second album, Songs for Swinging Lovers, was released in April 2010 as a digital download on a "pay-what-you-like" basis, with a physical CD following in June.

Those people concerned about the brutality inflicted on condemned women were, in Gatrell's opinion, "activated by the sense that even at their worst women were creatures to be pitied and protected from themselves, and perhaps revered, like all women from whom men were born." Commenting on Harris's execution, The Daily Universal Register claimed that the act reflected "a scandal upon the law", "a disgrace to the police" and "was not only inhuman, but shamefully indelicate and shocking". The newspaper asked "why should the law in this species of offence inflict a severer punishment upon a woman, than upon a man"? Harris's fate prompted William Wilberforce to sponsor a bill which, if passed, would have abolished the practice.

It turns on two indelicate plot devices: a rake's trick of pretending near impotence to safely have clandestine affairs with married women, and the arrival in London of an inexperienced young "country wife", with her discovery of the joys of town life, especially the fascinating London men. The implied condition the Rake, Horner, claimed to suffer from was, he said, contracted in France whilst "dealing with common women". The only cure was to have a surgeon drastically reduce the extent of his manly stature and therefore he would be no threat to any man's wife. The scandalous trick and the frank language have for much of the play's history kept it off the stage and out of print.

The images created by van Haelbeck are accompanied by verses in French that are full of double-entendres of an obscene nature. Van Haelbeck’s series was very popular and was regularly reprinted as illustrations in publications of an indelicate sort that were principally marketed to Europe’s university students. Dean's beauty inspired a number of songs, including "Dora Dean The Sweetest Gal You Ever Seen" (1896) by performer and composer Bert Williams and "Dora Dean's Sister" (1902) by Joseph F. Lamb. In 1898, "Dora Dean The Sweetest Gal You Ever Seen" was the subject of a lawsuit in which a San Francisco judge ruled that the song could not be protected by copyright with the original lyrics "... the hottest thing you ever seen ..." because "the word 'hottest' as used in this case has an indelicate and vulgar meaning ..." In 1946, radio game show host John Reed King stumped his studio audience with the question "Who is Dora Dean?". A refrigerator, bedroom suite, silverware set, and $100 went unclaimed as no one provided the correct answer.

Despite the urgings of those around her she dismissed the prospects of becoming a professed religious. Instead it was her desire to remain single as a virgin in order to devote herself to an austere life for Jesus Christ. But pain struck their household: her sister Marie-Marguerite (known as "Mariette") saw the dissolution of her marriage; her brother Joseph (of a violent temper and relaxed manners) served a sentence in prison and the elder Claude had a child out of the marriage - François - of which Marguerite - then aged seventeen - took care of in terms of his education. Claude got married (aged 47 at the time) with Josette who - according to the testimonies of the relatives - was a woman of rude and indelicate character never losing the chance to humiliate and mistreat her sister-in-law.

Vance Waggoner (voiced by Bobby Cannavale) is a human Hollywoo actor with a history of assault and making sexist, racist, and anti-semitic comments, who nevertheless is always able to revive his career by publicly apologizing for his actions. He is initially cast on Philbert as Philbert's partner Fritz, due to Waggoner's "bad boy" reputation, but the controversy that ensues as a result of Waggoner's past and with Philbert's indelicate subject matter (as well as the countless job offers that he receives after returning to the spotlight) causes him to leave the show and be recast with Mr. Peanutbutter. He appears later in season 6 to be BoJack's AA sponsor after no one is willing to work or talk with BoJack anymore, and the two bond over having been "canceled." Waggoner encourages BoJack to hold onto his anger and continue making content for the small part of the population that still supports him, and directs BoJack in The Horny Unicorn, a bawdy, low-brow comedy.

While a 1905 article in the American Journal of Education recommended the story for children aged 8–10, "The Princess and the Pea" was not uniformly well received by critics. Toksvig wrote in 1934, "[the story] seems to the reviewer not only indelicate but indefensible, in so far as the child might absorb the false idea that great ladies must always be so terribly thin-skinned." Tatar notes that the princess's sensitivity has been interpreted as poor manners rather than a manifestation of noble birth, a view said to be based on "the cultural association between women's physical sensitivity and emotional sensitivity, specifically, the link between a woman reporting her physical experience of touch and negative images of women who are hypersensitive to physical conditions, who complain about trivialities, and who demand special treatment". Researcher Jack Zipes notes that the tale is told tongue-in-cheek, with Andersen poking fun at the "curious and ridiculous" measures taken by the nobility to establish the value of bloodlines.

Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, as and says with regard to them that they died “by the mouth of the Lord” which indicates that they died with a kiss, and not at the hand of the Angel of Death.

King has also written and performed for modern dance with the Mark Morris Dance Group and for fashion, composing and performing live for three seasons of designer Isaac Mizrahi's fashion week shows at Bryant Park NYC and for film with the award winning animated shorts "Bike Ride Story" and "Bike Race" by Tom Schroeder. In March 2008 King appeared with The Bad Plus on the Late Night with Conan O'Brien television show playing one of King's compositions, "Thriftstore Jewelry". In 2010 King released a solo record titled "Indelicate" on the Sunnyside label where the drummer plays duets with himself on piano aided by overdubbing in the studio.
