On location for "The Sinner," Wednesdays on USA Network, Ms. Biel was in stealth-glam mode — hair lank, lithe body obscured by prison-issue sweats — to play Cora Tannetti, a lovely young wife and mother who, on a gentle summer day at the edge of a lake, stabbed a stranger to death for no apparent reason.

It's soft and lithe and haunting and beautiful and a timely reminder that she is currently unparalleled among her pop star brethren in her ability to hone in on specific details – hand squeezes in the back of a taxi, glitter on the floor after an all-night party — and turn those lyrics into a memory you didn't realize you had.

For one thing, the dichotomy Wayne establishes between the digestion-addled, potato-shaped, hopelessly provincial and embarrassingly ambitious Jew (represented by both the Lactaid-popping Federman and his dowdy, allergic girlfriend, Sara Cohen) versus the effortlessly soignée and sophisticated WASP (represented by the lithe and lazy Veronica Morgan Wells) seems, at this point in American history, not only a cliché but an anachronism.

Compare and contrast that image, though, with what we see on the cover of FIFA 14—Messi having made the switch from Konami's series to EA's monolithic alternative (which hasn't actually been a match for PES for a couple of years now, but that's another article entirely) for 2012's FIFA Street—where the butter-wouldn't-melt model of 2009 has been replaced by a howling beast of a man, all lithe and livid about something, possibly that lion hanging out around his shorts.
