Their life cycle comprises several distinct stages: they begin their lives as an egg, which hatches a parasitoid larval form known as a facehugger, which then attaches itself to a living host by, as its name suggests, latching onto its face. In the Alien 3 novelization, Ripley commented that this parasitoid would probably be able to use any host from as small as a cat, to as large as an Asian Elephant. The facehugger then "impregnates" the host with an embryo, known as a "chestburster",The terms "facehugger" and "chestburster" date at least as far back as The Book of Alien and HR Giger's Alien—behind-the-scenes scrapbooks composed the year of the original film's release—and are used frequently by the film's cast and crew in retrospect.

In Wicca, the narrative of the Wheel of the Year traditionally centres on the sacred marriage of the God and the Goddess and the god/goddess duality. In this cycle, the God is perpetually born from the Goddess at Yule, grows in power at the vernal equinox (as does the Goddess, now in her maiden aspect), courts and impregnates the Goddess at Beltane, reaches his peak at the summer solstice, wanes in power at Lammas, passes into the underworld at Samhain (taking with him the fertility of the Goddess/Earth, who is now in her crone aspect) until he is once again born from Her mother/crone aspect at Yule. The Goddess, in turn, ages and rejuvenates endlessly with the seasons, being courted by and giving birth to the Horned God.

After Emery is killed by Jason, Bardox signals for help from the G7 (his shuttle having been damaged while landing on Planet #666) and is rescued by G7 crew member Felicity, who he abandons on Planet #666, stealing her shuttle, which unknown to Bardox, Jason stows away on after killing Felicity. Upon reaching G7, Bardox tampers with the life- support of the station, knocking out all his co-workers, one of whom, London Jefferson, he impregnates with some of Jason genetic material. When it becomes evident that Jason is aboard the G7 and has begun killing crew members, Bardox and the crew attempt to capture and pacify him using a specialized serum, a ploy which fails.
