Between 1975 and 1977, Moore had recorded four albums for Buddah Records, the last three of which had been disco-oriented with the title cut of her 1976 album This Is It providing Moore with her first glimmer of recording success. Moore's fourth album for Buddah, the 1977 release A Portrait of Melba, helmed by the virtuoso Philly soul production/songwriting team of McFadden & Whitehead - ie. Gene McFadden and John Whitehead - had been a commercial failure which ended Moore's tenure with Buddah. However Moore was expediently signed to Epic Records who assigned McFadden & Whitehead to again oversee Moore's recording sessions, with Moore's Epic debut album: Melba, recorded at Sigma Sound Studios and released in September 1978. The album's lead single: "You Stepped Into My Life", ranked as high as #5 on the Billboard ranking of top disco songs which success translated into Moore's strongest showing on Billboard's Hot 100 and R&B; charts with respective peaks of #47 and #17: Moore would have number of higher ranked R&B; chart singles during the 1980s but "You Stepped Into My Life" would remain her final Hot 100 chart single.

When Petula Clark charted in her native UK with the English-language rendering of "Sailor" reaching #1 in February 1961 she ended a UK chart absence of almost three years. However, during those same three years Clark did enjoy a string of hit singles in France and she expediently rendered her UK hit "Sailor" with French-language lyrics - by Jean Broussolle (fr) - with the resultant track "Marin" becoming Clark's eighth French chart hit, its #2 peak - reached in May 1961 - matching Clark's previous best French charting that being with "Java Pour Petula" #2 in 1959. (Clark's English-language recording of "Sailor" had been issued in France in February 1961 failing to chart.) Clark's next French chart hit after "Marin": "Roméo" (also a French rendering a UK hit by Clark), would be the first of Clark's five French #1's. "Marin" reached #10 on the charts for the French-speaking sector of Belgium and the single also entered the Montreal charts (as "Sailor") in January 1961 peaking at #13 marking Clark's first appearance on an accredited North American chart almost four years before her breakout hit "Downtown".

Burnham's Report called for several parks near Visitacion Valley, including one he named Visitacion Park, which would become Bayview Park and Candlestick Point State Recreation Area; and one he named University Mound Park, which occupied part of the land that would later become John McLaren Park. In the wake of the 1906 earthquake and fire, rather than implement Burnham's plan, city officials expediently rebuilt the city using the grids that had been previously laid out. The Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 26241, New Series on October 4, 1926 (approved Oct 15) directing the purchase of for a park planned to be named Mission Park,The Master Plan of San Francisco (1944), p. 2 with plans for an 18-hole golf course, equestrian trails, playing fields, and a possible relocation of the City Zoo. The Board would rename the planned park in honor of John McLaren's service to the city on November 29, 1926, and McLaren celebrated the dedication of the park in 1927, during a December tree- planting ceremony Boy Scouts participated in the planting of three separate plantings called “Memorial Redwood Groves.”.

In the Asian theatre of the Second World War (1939–45), Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek of the KMT expediently allied with the Communist Mao Zedong of the CPC to fight the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–45) as reluctant co-belligerents to expel Imperial Japan from China; post-war, they resumed the Chinese Civil War (1946–49). In the course of the Second World War (1939–45), the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the nationalist Kuomintang party (KMT) set aside their civil war in order to fight, defeat, and expel Imperial Japan from China. To that end, the Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin, ordered Mao Zedong, leader of the CPC, to co-operate with Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, leader of the KMT, in fighting the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945). Following the surrender of Japan (15 August 1945), the CPC and the KMT resumed their civil war, which the communists won by 1949.Vladislav Zubok and Constantine Pleshakov, Inside the Kremlin's Cold War: From Stalin to Khrushchev (1996) p. 56. At war's end, Stalin advised Mao to not seize political power at that time, and, instead, to collaborate with Chiang due to the USSR–KMT Treaty of Friendship and Alliance (1945); in communist solidarity, Mao abided Stalin.
