Vathek, the ninth caliph of the Abassides, ascended to the throne at an early age. He is a majestic figure, terrible in anger (one glance of his flashing eye can make "the wretch on whom it was fixed instantly [fall] backwards and sometimes [expire]"), and addicted to the pleasures of the flesh. He is intensely thirsty for knowledge and often invites scholars to converse with him. If he fails to convince the scholar of his points of view, he attempts a bribe; if this does not work, he sends the scholar to prison.

Alexander, p. 379. Shortly after his release, Heywood had written to Edward Christian, Fletcher's older brother, that he would "endeavour to prove that your brother was not that vile wretch, void of all gratitude ... but, on the contrary, a most worthy character ... beloved by all (except one, whose ill report is his greatest praise)".Alexander, p. 321. This statement, published immediately after Heywood's pardon in a local Whitehaven newspaper as an open letter to Edward Christian, contradicted the respect Heywood had accorded Bligh in the courtroom,Alexander, p. 322.
Her clothes, trapping air, have allowed her to temporarily stay afloat ("Her clothes spread wide, / And, mermaid-like, awhile they bore her up."). But eventually, "her garments, heavy with their drink, / Pull'd the poor wretch from her melodious lay" down "to muddy death". Ophelia's death has been praised as one of the most poetically written death scenes in literature. For one example of praise see The Works of Shakespeare, in 11 volumes (Hamlet in volume 10), edited by Henry N. She points the revolver at him, but instead she fires at the ceiling. Increasingly agitated, Schön seizes the revolver and begins to search the house looking for Lulu's lovers, but finds only Geschwitz whom he locks in another room.

Phil Hester, of The Wretch and Green Arrow, wrote The Atheist, while Irish John McCrea of Hitman provided the black and white artwork. The storyline revolves around present day humans that are having their bodies being "possessed" by the souls from Hell similar to the possessions in the 1950s horror movie The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The souls from Hell then begin an extremely hedonistic and malicious lifestyle that includes raves, drugs, self-mutilation, murder, and other violence.
The Duffer Brothers cast David Harbour as Chief Hopper believing this was his opportunity to portray a lead character. In June 2015, it was announced that Winona Ryder and David Harbour had joined the series as Joyce and as the unnamed chief of police, respectively. The brothers' casting director Carmen Cuba had suggested Ryder for the role of Joyce, which the two were immediately drawn to because of her predominance in the films of the 1980s. Levy believed Ryder could "wretch up the emotional urgency and yet find layers and nuance and different sides of [Joyce]".

Very far from the regular Black Metal sound. An orgy in religious maliciousness in its most extreme form." The only released lyrics are those to "Bringer of Terror", that deal with the return of Satan once "[t]he chains that held him are smashed", and the failure of the "wretch you call god".
Her employer was questioned, as was her apothecary, who thought that Canning would have been quite able to survive on the pitcher of water and crusts of bread she claimed to have been given. The defence responded with three witnesses, who each believed that they had encountered a "poor, miserable wretch" at the end of January, when she claimed to have escaped. The Trial of Elizabeth Canning On 6 May more witnesses for the prosecution were called. As Squires and her family watched, several of Wells's neighbours insisted they had, about the beginning of 1753, seen the old gypsy in the area.

Newton's Calvinistic view of redemption and divine grace formed his perspective that he considered himself a sinner so vile that he was unable to change his life or be redeemed without God's help. Yet his lyrical subtlety, in Steve Turner's opinion, leaves the hymn's meaning open to a variety of Christian and non-Christian interpretations.Turner, pp. 213–214. "Wretch" also represents a period in Newton's life when he saw himself outcast and miserable, as he was when he was enslaved in Sierra Leone; his own arrogance was matched by how far he had fallen in his life.
G. K. Chesterton frequently employed this device to create paradox: In combination with verbal active and passive voices, it points out the idea of a latent reciprocity: An alternative way to use the device is to develop polyptoton over the course of an entire novel, which is done in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Shelley combines polyptoton with periphrastic naming, which is the technique of referring to someone using several indirect names. The creature in Frankenstein is referred to by many terms, such as "fiend", "devil", "being", and "ogre". However, the first term that Shelley uses in reference to the creature is "wretch".
Naima also narrates that after hearing this, Hasan Pasha, who was credited as a fearless military leader, and happened to be playing chess at that very moment, severely responded to him: "Curse you, you despicable wretch! to be afraid of numbers: out of my sight!", and then he mounted his horse and began to mobilize the Ottoman forces across the bridges he had previously ordered to be constructed. On 22 June, between eleven and twelve o'clock, Erdődy and Auersperg's forces attacked Ottoman positions with the army of Erdödy in front, consisting of Croatian hussars and infantry.

Lord Carleton was highly regarded as a judge, but his notorious hypochondria made him a subject of some ridicule, since like many hypochondriacs he in fact enjoyed excellent health. His decision to retire on the ground of ill health at 60 was greeted with derision, which was fully justified since he survived for another quarter century. His former schoolfriend John Scott, Lord Clonmell, whose diary is full of savage attacks on his colleagues, describes Carleton as "a worthless wretch, though I am his maker"; but no one else seems to have shared this view.Lenox-Conyngham, Melosina Diaries of Ireland Liliput Press 1998 p.

540b, composed on 28 April). He also made some cuts in the Finale in order to make it shorter and more incisive, the most important of which is the section where Anna and Ottavio, Elvira, Zerlina and Masetto, Leporello reveal their plans for the future (""). In order to connect "" ("It must have been the ghost she met") directly to the moral of the story "" ("This is the end which befalls to evildoers"), Mozart composed a different version of "" ("So the wretch can stay down there with Proserpina and Pluto!"). These cuts are very seldom performed in theatres or recordings.
Even though he repented that position later in his life and included an apology in his History of the Indies, some later criticism held him responsible for the institution of the Atlantic slave trade. One detractor, the abolitionist David Walker, called Las Casas a "wretch... stimulated by sordid avarice only," holding him responsible for the enslavement of thousands of Africans. Other historians, such as John Fiske writing in 1900, denied that Las Casas's suggestions affected the development of the slave trade. Benjamin Keen likewise did not consider Las Casas to have had any substantial impact on the slave trade, which was well in place before he began writing.

One said he had seen two men dragging a woman towards Enfield early in January. Others told him they had on 29 January seen "a miserable poor wretch" travelling toward London Myles found witnesses who claimed they had seen Squires at Enfield Wash in December and January. Myles unwittingly made Gascoyne aware of his investigation when he asked a John Cooper of Salisbury his opinion of seven of Gascoyne's witnesses, who claimed they had seen Squires in Coombe. Cooper wrote back affirming the good character of Thomas Greville (who had testified for Squires at her trial), but later sent the same information to Gascoyne, offering his support.
Nevertheless, the princess strongly rejects the healer's presence, and asks instead for "my old man", a certain Captain Manoli Ghaiduri. The soldier is immediately sent for, and reveals himself to be the girl's secret love interest, a "splendid" Greek from the princely guard. While the princess persistently asks Manoli to mangle the intruding healer, the latter thinks of a ruse: suggesting that the girl's illness needs specialized help, he asks permission to consult with Acrivița Ianulea, "the widow of the wretch", whom he recommends as a better doctor than he. His demand has an instant effect on the princess: instead of shrieking and shouting, she begins cluttering her teeth.
This is the first time in 132 years that we have not had a murder case on the docket in this county." One man in Lee County who used to ride horseback through a community to take his "turn of corn" to the mill, told us he often heard cursing, fighting and shooting along the creek. He said, "Now, since you have had two revivals there, all I ever hear is singing, 'Amazing Grace that saved a wretch like me' or 'Jesus, Lover of My soul.' If you had done nothing more than change that community, it is worth all your prayers, tears, and labors.
Voltaire, at first horrified by the attention the affair drew to him, ended up defending la Barre's memory and helping d'Etallonde, whom he even received as a houseguest at Ferney. His first paper probably played a large part in the charges against the younger Belleval and Douville being dropped. His second was an attempt (unsuccessful) to obtain a pardon for d'Etallonde. In 1778, Linguet, la Barre's own defender, criticized him harshly, though largely as a way of attacking the influence of the Philosophes with whom Linguet was quarreling by then: Second statue of the Chevalier de la Barre, on Montmartre > ....this dirty wretch of Chevalier de la Barre.
Crowds condemned her on the way to her execution. :“On her way to the place of execution the people expressed their abhorrence of her crime in terms which, though not proper for the occasion, testified their astonishment that such a wretch could have existed: they even prayed for her damnation instead of her salvation: they doubted not but that ‘the devil would fetch her,’ and hoped that ‘she would go to hell.’ Such were the sentiments of the mob.” Even sixty years later, The Newgate Calendar crime periodical still bore testimony to the impression that Elizabeth Brownrigg's crimes had made on Georgian and Victorian England.
This was in Leith Roads [i.e., before they sailed] besides what straits they would readily endure in the custody of such a cruel wretch. In this grievous plight, these captives were carried away in much anguish of spirit, pinched bodies, and disquieted conscience, (at least those who had taken the bond.) They were tossed at sea with great tempest of weather for three weeks, till at last their ship cast anchor, to ride awhile among the Orkney isles, till the storm might calm. But after casting anchor, the ship did drive with great violence upon a rugged shore about the isles, and struck about ten at night on a rock.
In Bellamira, a profit-seeking attitude has infected every aspect of life and ruined each relationship. Materialistic motives lead to arranged marriages devoid of feelings and love. The society delineated here is an ageing society not only morally deficient but also literally diseased: Bellamira is a veteran courtesan; Merryman an elderly drunkard; Cunningham a crumbling syphilitic wretch; Dangerfield an old-fashioned, impotent soldier in retirement. In addition to this picture of ageing and disease, the imagery of sterility receives special emphasis in the play: the device of the eunuch becomes the very symbol of the play, and thus, characteristics such as incompleteness and lack of fulfilment dominate the play.
While still in high school, Bjork got together with friends Josh Homme and John Garcia in 1987 to form a band called Katzenjammer. The band relocated to Los Angeles in 1990 and signed to Chameleon Records, releasing their debut album, Wretch in September 1991. Church History 86.2: 350–59. In a letter to Frederick II, King of Prussia, dated 5 January 1767, he wrote about Christianity: In La bible enfin expliquée, he expressed the following attitude to lay reading of the Bible: > It is characteristic of fanatics who read the holy scriptures to tell > themselves: God killed, so I must kill; Abraham lied, Jacob deceived, Rachel > stole: so I must steal, deceive, lie. But, wretch, you are neither Rachel, > nor Jacob, nor Abraham, nor God; you are just a mad fool, and the popes who > forbade the reading of the Bible were extremely wise. Voltaire's opinion of the Bible was mixed.

" Four days later, on May 25, The Daily Commercial, published, "The fact that a black scoundrel [Ida B. Wells] is allowed to live and utter such loathsome and repulsive calumnies is a volume of evidence as to the wonderful patience of Southern Whites. But we've had enough of it." The Evening Scimitar (Memphis) copied the story that same day, but added, "Patience under such circumstances is not a virtue. If the Negroes themselves do no apply the remedy without delay it will be the duty of those whom he has attacked to tie the wretch who utters these calumnies to a stake at the intersection of Main and Madison Sts.
Shakka self- released his first official EP, Foolishness, in July 2009 which was recorded at a local youth centre. He then went on to release a conceptual mixtape, The Shakka Crown Affair, in 2011 which gained Shakka much respect amongst his peers, solidified him as an emerging creative phenomenon in the UK and brought him to the attention of successful British rapper Wretch 32.
Prigent's first album, Ar gouriz koar (translated The Wax Belt), was released in 1993 on Auvidis/Silex. A second version of the album was recorded and released in 1996 on Barclay Records after a lawsuit between Prigent and Auvidis/Silex over the proceeds from the album sales. The title comes from the song "Ur vag a Vontroulez", in which a woman pledges a gift of wax to Saint John if he saves her son from the wretch. This is allusion to a recurring element found in the Barzaz Breiz, in which a length of wax (or belt) circling a land three times appears several times as the reward that one promises if a particularly important favour is granted.

"Williams' Blood" is an autobiographical song, written by Jones and music duo Wendy & Lisa, explaining how Jones takes after her mother's, Marjorie Jones née Williams, musical side of the family rather than that of her disciplinarian father Reverend Robert Jones. According to the lyrics, Jones' mother reveals that her grandfather was a musician who traveled with Nat King Cole, womanizing and drinking from town to town. The song describes her family's lament that she isn't more of a Jones like her sister or brother Noel while she expresses her desire to be free. In the song's introduction Jones adapts a line from the first stanza of "Amazing Grace" declaring, "You can't save a wretch like me".
They conferred prestige on the monastery that possessed them, and the monks were not inclined to let them out of their sight. On occasion monasteries tried to secure their possession by freighting their precious manuscripts with curses.” One oft-quoted example of a book curse, purportedly from a Barcelona monastery, is actually fictional, taken from the 1909 hoax The Old Librarian's Almanack: > And what Condemnation shall befit the accurst Wretch (for he cannot justly > claim the title of Man) who pilfers and purloins for his own selfish ends > such a precious article as a Book? I am reminded of the Warning display'd in > the Library of the Popish Monastery of San Pedro at Barcelona.
The final act occurs very early in the morning; the family has been up all night fretting over Eugénie's condition, and they even seem to fear that she may die from grief. She is able to emerge from her room, in a weakened state, to try to convince Sir Charles not to fight the Earl—she insists that she'd rather be known as a "foresworn wretch" than to see the Earl harmed. Charles does not listen to her and leaves to fight the Earl: he returns almost immediately, lamenting that when he tried to fight the Earl, his sword shattered and the Earl escaped. Everyone assumes the Earl ran off to go through with this wedding to Lady Winchester.
J.D. notices this as he watches the movie. When J.D. confronts Janitor, he (eventually) admits that it really was him- after J.D. explains that he wanted it to be Janitor as it would show him to be more than a bitter wretch but a man who once had hopes and dreams, even if they didn't work out- but admonishes him not to tell anyone. Janitor's father is portrayed as having treated him the way a drill instructor would treat a new recruit. (His father is played by actor R. Lee Ermey, who famously played a drill instructor in Full Metal Jacket.) However, Janitor later tells J.D. that his father died when he was young.
His liturgical knowledge (he had a fine collection of the various issues of the common prayer-book) may be traced, Alexander Ferrier Mitchell thinks, in the composition of the 'Directory'. Burges was one of the few who, in 1643, opposed the imposition of the Solemn League and Covenant, and he carried his opposition so far as to petition the House of Commons to be heard against it. He was not anxious to create an irreparable breach with the episcopal party. John Lightfoot on this occasion abused Burges as 'a wretch to be branded to all posterity, seeking for some devilish ends, either of his own or others, or both, to hinder so great a good of the two nations'.

Bu Jove was worshipped more greatly in heathenism than Saturn was, and he is also considered to be the most honorable of all of the gods who the heathens, in their error, had for gods in those days. Also he was called by another name, Thor, between some nations, and the Danish people love him most and worship him eagerly in their heresy. His son is called Mars, he always made strife and contention and often stirred up conflict and enmity. After his death, the heathens worshipped this wretch for an exalted god and whenever they went to war or wanted to go to battle, they offered their sacrifice in advance to honor this false god.
"Remember Me" is sung with soulful vocals by both Daley and Jessie J, and samples 'Should've Known Better' by Mica Paris (co-written by Omar) and "Woman of the Ghetto" by Marlena Shaw, in a similar manner to The Blue Boy's use of the same samples in his track of the same name. The song was produced by White N3rd and Balistiq - the production duo behind some of Delilah’s best known tracks, and Paul Heard (Wretch 32, "Don’t Go"). The single quickly gained early spins from BBC Radio 1 as well as being added straight to Choice FM, KISS FM and BBC Radio 1Xtra's playlists. The single trended at Number 2 on UK Twitter during its first ever radio play.
During the special episode broadcast on 10 November, "A little thing called love", Jason told Bart to go after Sinead and not to waste another moment. Jason helped Bart and then they deleted their text messages which they had kept from since they were dating and Jason said that they had to move on and say good bye to Jasmine. Bart crashes Wretch 32's gig and sings to Sinead who is watching in the crowd and they get back together. Jason tells Bart that he's leaving to go to America and that they will never see each other again, but Jason said 'I will never forget you Bart Mcqueen' and then they say farewell and Bart waves on Jason as he heads for the airport.
This caused much grief to Jahangir as he mentions in his memoirs, Tuzk-e-Jahangiri, where he also mentions his elation at the death of Ali Quli and hopes that "the blackfaced wretch will forever remain in hell".Ali Quli Istajlu Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri, The Memoirs of Jahangir (Rogers), Volume 1, chapt. 27. The claim that Ali Quli was killed because the emperor coveted his wife has been discounted by many later historians, who cite the fact that if Jahangir had had any such intentions, he wouldn't have bestowed upon Ali Quli the title Sher Afgan, or pardoned him after he ascended the throne, or given him Bardhaman.Ali Quli Istajlu The Mughal Empire: From Babar to Aurangzeb, by S. He began his career in Cold Blooded where he became known for his "shank" bars, and would regularly attend pirate radio and work his way up through the North London grime circuit. Scorcher served a short prison sentence in 2006 for driving offences, and while in jail his mixtape Simply the Best was released and was greeted with good reviews from the grime scene. After an incident with fellow Cold Blooded member Cookie, Scorcher left Cold Blooded to concentrate on a new collective known as The Movement, which featured Scorcher alongside Wretch 32, Devlin, Mercston, and Ghetts. At this point he was involved in a momentous clash that saw him and fellow movement members go up against rival grime collective Boy Better Know.

The record label title comes from its purpose: to locate and nurture young and upcoming artists. It was revealed on 5 July 2011 that OddChild made its first signing with singer Etta Bond. Writing material for her debut release, Bond worked with producer DaVinChe – having already uploaded the demo singles "Ask Me to Stay" and "Come Over". Bond also made an appearance on British rapper Wretch 32's second studio album, Black and White, on the track "Forgiveness" – which was released on 11 December 2011 as a single. Bond and fellow OddChild signing Raf Riley released a free collaboration EP as ExR on 20 July 2012 called Emergency Room, featuring the previously unreleased demo "Ask Me To Stay" alongside 7 other tracks.
She may have drawn inspiration from the general fashion for anything Pharaonic, inspired by the French researches during the Napoleonic invasion of Egypt; the 1821 public unwrappings of Egyptian mummies in a theatre near Piccadilly, which she may have attended as a girl, and very likely, the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. As Shelley had written of Frankenstein's creation, "A mummy again endued with animation could not be so hideous as that wretch," which may have triggered young Miss Webb's later concept. In any case, at many points she deals in greater clarity with elements from the earlier book: the loathing for the much-desired object, the immediate arrest for crime and attempt to lie one's way out of it, etc.
She has attained three number one hits in the UK and it the only solo British female in over two decades to have reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Robinson originally intended for the profits made from this collection to help pay off his debts. But the publication of Poems could not prevent his imprisonment. Robinson lived for nine months and three weeks with Thomas and their baby within the squalor of prison. Motivated by the months she spent in prison, Robinson wrote Captivity; a Poem and Celadon and Lydia, a Tale, published by T. Becket, in London, in 1777. This collection “described the horrors of captivity and painted a sympathetic picture of the ‘wretch’ and the ‘guiltless partners of his poignant woes’...The poem ends admonishing people to open their hearts and to pity the unfortunate...” Following the publication of Captivity, Robinson established a new poetic identity for herself.
Biografia di Gaetano Salvemini, Istituto di studi storici Gaetano Salvemini (retrieved May 14, 2016) After completing his studies in Florence in 1894, his historical studies on medieval Florence, the French Revolution and Giuseppe Mazzini established him as an acclaimed historian. In 1901, after years of teaching in secondary schools, he was appointed as a professor in medieval and modern history at the University of Messina. While in Messina, he lost his wife, five children and his sister in the devastating 1908 Messina earthquake before his eyes, while hiding under an architrave of a window; an experience that shaped his life. "I am a miserable wretch, without home or hearth, who has seen the happiness of eleven years destroyed in two minutes," he wrote.

In December 1756 Webb was made joint-solicitor to the treasury, and held that post until June 1765; he was consequently a leading official in the proceedings against John Wilkes, and for his acts was dubbed by Horace Walpole ‘a most villainous tool and agent in any iniquity,’ ‘that dirty wretch,’ and ‘a sorry knave.’ In the action brought against Wood, Lord Egremont's secretary, for seizing Wilkes's papers, Webb, as a witness, swore that while in the house he had no key in his hand. For this he was tried before Lord Mansfield, with a special jury, for perjury, on 22 May 1764. The trial lasted seven hours, and the jury, after an absence of nearly an hour, returned a verdict of not guilty.
When the news reached Ballard's two sons, Charles and Homer, along with two neighbors, Pledge Sears and Joseph Edwards, who claimed that James had also invaded his home before allegedly invading the Ballard's, went to the area where James was sleeping. The men allegedly found James with blood on his clothes, his shoes not on his feet, and a coat "thrown over his head." They woke him and, armed with a piece of 2x4 scantling, nearly beat "the black wretch" to death, while a crowd gathered around to watch. James was reportedly not lucid during the beating, and made no effort to resist or defend himself, even as he was dragged for half-a-block toward a nearby telephone with the intent of lynching him.
The following week, rapper Example scored a number-one single with "Changed the Way You Kiss Me" – which also topped the singles and dance chart. The single marked the second number-one single from the musician in 2011 alone, having already claimed number-one singles with "Won't Go Quietly" (2010) and "Kickstarts" (2010). Having spent four consecutive weeks at the peak, Example was dethroned on 10 July by Ministry of Sound artist DJ Fresh with the Sian Evans-assisted "Louder" – which also topped the singles chart. Following on from an impressive six weeks at the peak, 21 August saw Wretch 32 claim a second number-one single with the Josh Kumra-assisted "Don't Go" – which, much like the predecessor, topped the singles chart.
After an incredible nine consecutive weeks at the peak, "Someone Like You" was dethroned on 24 April by Wretch 32 and Example's collaborative single "Unorthodox" – which having peaked at number 2 on the singles chart remained at the top spot for three consecutive weeks. On 15 May, Iranian singer Yasmin debuted at number- one on the chart with second single "Finish Line", although its time at the peak was short lived when Adele's "Someone Like You" returned to the number- one spot to continue a non-consecutive run currently totalling seventeen weeks. Adele was then dethroned for a third time during 2011 when French DJ Alex Gaudino topped the chart with Kelly Rowland-collaborated "What a Feeling" on 4 June.
In earlier years the judge exercised much influence through his political alliance with Dudley and his marriage, in 1718, to Governor Leverett's daughter Sarah, following the death of his first wife. Cotton Mather, in February, 1702 or 3, received a visit from Governor Dudley, whom Mather advised to allow no people to say that the governor's policies were dictated by Byfield and Leverett. Mather continues: 'The Wretch went unto those Men, and told them, that I had advised him, to be no ways advised by them: and inflamed them into an implacable Rage against me.' Byfield was a man of positive traits, dictatorial and overbearing, ambitious and revengeful, yet so sound that no decision of his was ever, upon appeal, reversed by a higher court.

The ballad opens with the lamentation of the guilty Alice Arden: "AY me, vile wretch, that ever I was borne, / Making my selfe unto the world a scorne: / And to my friends and kindred all a shame, / Blotting their blood by my unhappy name." She tells the audience that she marries Arden, a "Gentleman of wealth and fame," and lives happily with him until she is seduced by a man named Mosby. When Arden becomes jealous of Alice and Mosby's affair, the two lovers decide to do away with Arden. They first attempt to murder him by putting poison, obtained from a painter who is in love with Mosby's sister Susan, in Arden's broth; Arden, however, dislikes the taste of the poisoned broth and refuses to eat it, evading death and incurring his wife's wrath.

A meeting was held in the courthouse to collect money for a gift of appreciation to give to Bligh. At a ceremony later organised by the high profile Maryborough people, Bligh was given a ceremonial sword as a reward for his actions. However, his actions divided the town, with the Maryborough Chronicle describing it as "one of the most disgraceful acts ever perpetrated by any community, a blot so foul and deep-stained as will leave on this otherwise fair portion of God’s earth the brand of eternal infamy". The Moreton Bay Courier listed the names of individual Aborigines who had been killed, including Darkey (who was shot down in the street and later roasted) and Young Snatchem (who was driven into the river before Bligh "shot the defenceless, tired, unresisting wretch, in the back").
The band became both famous for their heavy, down tuned, groove oriented music, and infamous for their backstage fights with local LA bands when they traveled into town to play gigs. This soon brought the attention of Chris Goss, who became the band's mentor, helping the band sign to a label and eventually producing them exclusively in an effort to preserve their sound. Due to Homme being younger than 18 at the time of the band's signing, his parents signed the contract on his behalf. Kyuss released four albums (Wretch, Blues for the Red Sun, Welcome to Sky Valley, and ...And the Circus Leaves Town), of which the final three Goss-produced efforts are often cited as cornerstones to the development of the stoner rock genre in the 1990s.
"Not by me" a voice cries out—and it is Orombello who excitedly tells her his plans to rally the troops and help her free herself. She crushes him saying that she does not highly regard his expertise in security matters. Orombello tells of how his compassion was mistaken for love, but that he gradually came to love her and, as he kneels to protest his love and refusal to leave her, Filippo and Agnese enter, proclaiming the two traitors of having an affair. Filippo calls the guards, courtiers arrive, and all express their conflicting emotions in a scene finale with Filippo recognising that Beatrice's reputation is besmirched, she realises that "this shame is my due reward for making this wretch my equal", and Orombelo tries to persuade the Duke that she is innocent.
In hymnody it is called the "common metre", as it is the most common of the named hymn metres used to pair many hymn lyrics with melodies, such as Amazing Grace:The ballad metre commonality among a wide range of song lyrics allow words and music to be interchanged seamlessly between various songs, such as "Amazing Grace", the "Ballad of Gilligan's Isle", "House of the Rising Sun", theme from the Mickey Mouse Club, and others. > :Amazing Grace! how sweet the sound ::That saved a wretch like me; :I once > was lost, but now am found; ::Was blind, but now I see. Emily Dickinson is famous for her frequent use of ballad metre: > :Great streets of silence led away :To neighborhoods of pause — :Here was no > notice — no dissent — :No universe — no laws.
Her first steps into the global scene she started with the success of "Come With Me", which remained in the Top 100 of Beatport's download list for more than seven months. At the Council of Constance in 1415, Wycliffe was finally proclaimed a heretic and condemned as "that pestilent wretch of damnable memory, yea, the forerunner and disciple of anti-christ who, as the complement of his wickedness, invented a new translation of the Scriptures into his mother-tongue."Schaff's account of Wyclif and the Lollards, quote from Arundel His helpers Nicholas Hereford and John Purvey were forced to recant their teachings, and his bones, as determined by the council were finally burned in 1428. However, his translation of the Bible along with 200 manuscripts were secretly preserved and read by followers, and have survived to the present day. However, Wycliffe's Bible was not printed until 1731, when Wycliffe was historically conceived as the forefather of the English Reformation.

With so much trapping and hunting in the area, the fur-bearing animals began to grow scarce. This brought much hardship to the Native communities, the 1840s being a particularly bad time. In 1842, Chief Trader Francis Butcher wrote the following entries in this journal: > February 8 – Grand Oreilles and a lad arrived, the former nothing but skin > and bone that we hardly knew him, he left his family with Casse’s son a > short distance the other side of the Clump of Vines, they being too weak to > come to the Fort. > February 10th – In the afternoon a poor miserly wretch literally nothing but > skin and bone (Raquette’s son-in-law) dragged himself to the Fort and told > us he had left his family consisting of twelve individuals a little distance > above the hills unable to reach the Fort.
In the unaired pilot episode, covering the basic plot of "Born to Be King", Rowan Atkinson speaks, dresses and generally looks and acts like the later Blackadder descendants of the second series onwards, but no reason is given as to why he was instead changed to a snivelling wretch for the first series. Richard Curtis has stated he cannot remember the exact reason, but has suggested it was because they wanted to have a more complicated character (implying that the change was driven by the writing) instead of a swaggering lead from the pilot. Curtis admitted in a 2004 documentary that just before recording began, producer John Lloyd came up to him with Atkinson and asked what Edmund's character was. Curtis then realised that, despite writing some funny lines, he had no idea how Rowan Atkinson was supposed to play his part.
Loki tells Tyr to be silent a second time, and states that Tyr's wife (otherwise unattested) had a son by Loki, and that Tyr never received any compensation for this "injury", further calling him a "wretch". Freyr himself interrupts at this point, and says that he sees a wolf lying before a river mouth, and that, unless Loki is immediately silent, like the wolf, Loki shall also be bound until Ragnarök. Loki retorts that Freyr purchased his consort Gerðr with gold, having given away his sword, which he will lack at Ragnarök. Byggvir (referred to in the prose introduction to the poem as a servant of Freyr) says that if he had as noble a lineage and as an honorable a seat as Freyr, he would grind down Loki, and make all of his limbs lame.

I was an orphan and I had just gotten pregnant, so my sister-in-law, who wanted to get rid of me, told me 'get dressed we're going', and without knowing where she was going, she brought me here." She described the nuns: "They told me what I was going to do with a daughter, how I was going to feed her, if they had thrown me out of the house, if I was a wretch, and she was going to be one too." She described the process of giving birth, "I was in the dilatation room, and with half a head already out and they told me that I had to walk alone to the operating room and get on the gurney. I went with all the care, but she was born with a deformed skull.
Thomas Farynor stated that, after midnight, he had: > gone through every room and found no fire, but in one chimney, where the > room was paved with bricks, which fire I diligently raked up in embers [...] > no window or door might let wind disturb them and that it was absolutely set > on fire on purpose[...] Few of the jury at his trial actually believed Hubert guilty. One contemporary account claims that Hubert was "only accused upon his own confession; yet neither the judges nor any present at the trial did believe him guilty, but that he was a poor distracted wretch, weary of his life, and chose to part with it in this way." The jury stated that he did not have "the fear of God before his eyes, but [was] moved and led away by the instigation of the devil".Wallechisnky, Wallace & Wallace (1981).
He was racked with the Baltic cold, and wroth, as was common with him, with the still chillier winds which blew from the Admiralty Board: "But," he says, "all in the fleet are so truly kind to me that I should be a wretch not to cheer up. Foley has put me under a regimen of milk at four in the morning; Murray has given me lozenges; Hardy is as good as ever, and all have proved their desire to keep my mind easy." That picture of one sea veteran administering warm milk to his admiral at four o'clock in the morning is amusing enough; but it shows more effectively than graver things could do the feeling Nelson inspired in his captains. Ill-health obliged Foley to decline Nelson's offer (made when on the point of starting for the Battle of Trafalgar) of the post of Captain of the Fleet.
Chipmunk announced he was working on a new studio album in late-2010, and confirmed it would be titled, Transition which he stated it would be different from the first album, stating: "It kinda represents the growth in me as a person since my last album, so the sound has matured as well as I have and that’s the main thing for me with the record - I just wanted the sound, the sound and the feel of the album to feel… I feel like a granddad but you know, just more mature than my first album, you know life’s changed." The album features American artists Keri Hilson, Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Kalenna Harper from Diddy-Dirty Money, and British rapper Wretch 32. He released a promotional single onto iTunes on 12 November 2010. The single charted at #72 on the UK Singles Charts, with limited promotion.

' As I said these words, I perceived in > the gloom a figure ... A flash of lightning illuminated the object, and > discovered its shape plainly to me, its gigantic stature ... instantly > informed me it was the wretch, the filthy demon, to whom I had given life.'" He concluded that both books show Shelley's use of Miltonic themes: > "Granted, storm scenes are not unusual in Romantic literature; one need only > recall Byron's Childe Harold. But the Miltonic image of a titanic Satan > silhouetted by fires in the pitchy blackness of Hell bears the unmistakable > mark of Shelley's influence." Stephen C. Behrendt noted that the plan for getting revenge upon God in Zastrozzi, as referenced in the epigraph, "anticipates the guerilla warfare that the Creature will wage on Victor Frankenstein": > "Speaking to the assembly of fallen angels in Hell, Beelzebub is proposing a > means of achieving revenge against God.
He played a stripped version of his arena tour setlist, cutting out "Forgiveness", "Hush Little Baby", "Blur" and "Don't Be Afraid". A freestyle rap was filmed in Dorset to celebrate the event, taking a tour of the area with some parkour experts. On 15 August 2012, Wretch released his mixtape Wretchercise. Writing for the Los Angeles Times, Justin Chang called the film an "anguished masterwork" for Scorsese stating: "Working with such sterling past collaborators as editor Thelma Schoonmaker, production designer Dante Ferretti and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, Scorsese has done more than resurrect a vision of feudal Japan... Silence feels less like a feat of adaptation than an act of artistic submission". Mark Kermode writing for The Guardian indicated exemplary performances by the range of Japanese supporting actors in the cast stating: "The real stars however, are the Japanese cast, from Yōsuke Kubozuka's enigmatic wretch, Kichijirō ... to Yoshi Oida's devout elder Ichizo, to whose village these priests bring both salvation and suffering. As a smiling, silver-tongued interpreter, Tadanobu Asano is a superb foil to the inquisitor, Inoue, played with fly-swatting menace by a wheedling Issey Ogata". Apart from the narrative qualities of the film, the filmmaking was also praised for the depth and thoroughness of its thematic content.
In the 7th century AD, John Climacus records an instance of a young monk plagued by constant and overwhelming "temptations to blasphemy" consulting an older monk, who told him, "My son, I take upon myself all the sins which these temptations have led you, or may lead you, to commit. All I require of you is that for the future you pay no attention to them whatsoever." The Cloud of Unknowing, a Christian mystical text from the late 14th century, recommends dealing with recurring obsessions by first attempting to ignore them, and, if that fails, "cower under them like a poor wretch and a coward overcome in battle, and reckon it to be a waste of your time for you to strive any longer against them", a technique now known as "emotional flooding". From the 14th to the 16th century in Europe, it was believed that people who experienced blasphemous, sexual or other obsessive thoughts were possessed by the devil.
The Great Outdoors, 1987 Concurrent with his work in Saturday Night Live, Aykroyd played the role of Purvis Bickle, lift operator at the fictitious office block 99 Sumach Street in the CBC Television series Coming Up Rosie. After leaving SNL, Aykroyd starred in a number of films, mostly comedies, with uneven results both commercially and artistically. His first three American feature films all co-starred Belushi. The first, 1941 (1979), directed by Steven Spielberg, was a box-office disappointment. The second, The Blues Brothers (1980), which he co-wrote with director John Landis, was a massive hit. The third, Neighbors (1981) had mixed critical reaction, but was another box-office hit. One of his best-received performances was as a blueblood-turned-wretch in the 1983 comedy Trading Places, in which he co-starred with fellow SNL alumnus Eddie Murphy and Jamie Lee Curtis. In the early 1980s, Aykroyd began work on a script for the film that eventually became Ghostbusters, inspired by his fascination with parapsychology.
" Dubstep producer Skream is quoted in an interview with The Independent in September 2011 as saying: > The word dubstep is being used by a lot of people and there were a lot of > people being tagged with the dubstep brush. They don't want to be tagged > with it and shouldn't be tagged with it – that's not what they're pushing... > When I say 'UK bass', it's what everyone UK is associated with so it would > be a lot easier if it was called that." In the United Kingdom, bass music has had major mainstream success since the late 2000s and early 2010s, with artists such as James Blake, Benga, Example, Burial, Sophie Xeon, Zomby, Chase & Status, Skream, TNGHT, Ash Bowles and Wretch 32. The term "post-dubstep" has been used synonymously to refer to artists, such as Blake, Mount Kimbie and Fantastic Mr. Fox whose work drew on UK garage, 2-step, and other forms of underground dance music, as well as ambient music and early R&B.
On the night of 6 June he tried to steal food from Zachariah Clark, the "house of the colony's assistant commissary for stores", and was caught by a convict named William Saltmarsh. In July 1789, David Collins, the colony's Judge-Advocate, wrote: > This man was always reputed the hardest living convict in the colony; his > frame was muscular and well calculated for hard labour; but in his > intellects he did not very widely differ from a brute; his appetite was > ravenous, for he would in any one day devour the full rations for two days. > To gratify this appetite he was compelled to steal from others, and all his > thefts were directed to that purpose. Caesar was described by Collins after his first recapture as a "wretch" who was "so indifferent about meeting death, that he declared while in confinement, that if he should be hanged, he would create a laugh before he was turned off, by playing off some trick upon the executioner".
International Pixel-Stained Technopeasant Day is a commemoration declared by author Jo Walton, held on April 23 and first celebrated in 2007, in response to remarks made by Howard V. Hendrix stating that he was opposed "to the increasing presence in our organization the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America of webscabs, who post their creations on the net for free". The purpose of the day, according to Walton, was to encourage writers to post "professional quality" works for free on the internet. The name of the day originates from the assertion by Hendrix that the "webscabs" are "converting the noble calling of Writer into the life of Pixel-stained Technopeasant Wretch." Many notable authors contributed to International Pixel-Stained Technopeasant Day 2007, including Chaz Brenchley, Steven Brust, Emma Bull, Debra Doyle, Diane Duane, Naomi Kritzer, Jay Lake, David Langford, Sharon Lee, Beth Meacham, Steve Miller, Andrew Plotkin, Robert Reed, Will Shetterly, Sherwood Smith, Ryk Spoor, Charles Stross, Catherynne M. Valente, Jo Walton, Lawrence Watt-Evans, Martha Wells and Sean Williams.
The documentary film follows footage filmed by Jessica Grace Mellor, an amateur director and photographer who filmed footage of the band during their early days in 2002, in an attempt to secure them a record deal with a major label. At the time, band members Dappy, Tulisa and Fazer were fourteen, thirteen and fifteen respectively, and had begun working with Garage producer Donna Dee, who helped them create some of their very first tracks, and perform some of their first gigs, and is the person who requested that Grace Mellor film some footage of the band. Footage included in the film includes the band working with Dappy's father and Tulisa's uncle, Byron, performing and mixing material in the studio, as well as interviews with some of the band's label colleagues and well known friends, including Wretch 32, J2K and Angel. The film concludes with a short discussion on the height of the British music industry, and how the band contributed to making the British hip-hop scene better known.

He says his consent to the marriage depends upon what she wants and tells Count Paris that if he wants to marry Juliet he should wait a while then ask her. Later, however, when Juliet is grieving over Romeo's departure, Capulet thinks her sorrow is due to Tybalt's death, and in a misguided attempt to cheer her up, he wants to surprise her by arranging a marriage between her and Count Paris. The catch is that she has to be "ruled" by her father and to accept the proposal. When she refuses to become Paris' "joyful bride", saying that she can "never be proud of what she hates", Capulet becomes furious; threatens to make her a street urchin; calls her a "hilding" , "unworthy", "young baggage", a "disobedient wretch", a "green-sickness carrion", and "tallow-face"; and says God's giving Juliet to them was a "curse" and he now realizes he and his wife had one child too many when Juliet was born (in the earlier poem The Tragic History of Romeus and Juliet).
Lord Byron, for example, whose poetry was admired but who maintained a scandalous lifestyle, died in 1824 but was not given a memorial until 1969. Even William Shakespeare, buried at Stratford-upon-Avon in 1616, was not honoured with a monument until 1740 when one designed by William Kent was constructed in Poets' Corner (though shortly after Shakespeare's death William Basse had suggested Shakespeare should be buried there.) Samuel Horsley, Dean of Westminster in 1796, was said to have tartly refused the request for actress Kitty Clive to be buried in the Abbey: :if we do not draw some line in this theatrical ambition to mortuary fame, we shall soon make Westminster Abbey little better than a Gothic Green Room! The Times, 26 March 1796, p. 3 Not all poets appreciated memorialisation and Samuel Wesley's epitaph for Samuel Butler, who supposedly died in poverty, continued Butler's satiric tone: :While Butler, needy wretch, was yet alive, :No generous patron would a dinner give; :See him, when starv'd to death, and turn'd to dust, :Presented with a monumental bust.

As for the "people" or, in his words, the "wavering crowd of > Jews", the archbishop said, "The Pharisees' secret service had awakened the > animal in it through lies and slander, and it was eager for grisly > excitement and blood." About Judas: "This unspeakable wretch... sits > sycophantically at the Lord's Supper... at which Satan went into him... and > placed him at the lead of the present-day servants of Judas.... The paragraph contains the opinion and recommendation of the Patriarch Postnicul over "The deceased, which they will learn to be Strigoi, which is called vrykolakas, what needs to be done". The Patriarch proceeds in describing the belief: > I've heard in many cities and towns, it's said, some dreadful things being > done, which are below praise and great foolishness and lack of knowledge of > people over the work of the devil. For that our enemy, the most unclean, the > devil where he finds an empty place to dwell and do his will, there he > indeed dwells and many times with deceiving apparitions towards lots of > [bad] deeds he lures the people and leads them towards his will in order > that every wretch people like them to sink and drown in the depth of the > damnation of the eternal fire. There are some foolish people that say that > many times when people die, they rise and become Strigoi and kill those > alive, which death comes in a violent way and quick towards many people.
According to Clarke, Boucher "took up all sorts of sad, grim, and pleasurable subjects, from the hanging of some wretch at Stafford Gaol, to a dog, or cock fight at Sedgley, or Tipton". On the death of Dr. Luke Booker, Vicar of Dudley (which happened away from Dudley): > St. Luke is dead—a Poet and Divine— I hope his spirit doth in glory shine. > To save expense, and the roads being ugly, Or the Doctor would have come to > Dudley. Written after the old St. Thomas’s Church, Dudley was demolished (and some furnishings sent to nearby Gornal): > The seats and the windows, ah, and the clock too, Were sent on to Gornal, to > their Gornal crew; For the sand men and asses, for to go to church, And the > people of Dudley were left in the lurch. Equestrian statue of General Osório, in Praça XV de Novembro, Rio de Janeiro. With his death, followed by other military monarchists loyal to Pedro II, such as Luís Alves de Lima e Silva (Duke of Caxias) and Polidoro da Fonseca Quintanilha Jordão (Viscount of Santa Teresa), opened space for a new generation of military personnel wo were strongly influenced by the caudilloism and insubordinate military of the neighboring countries and who were for the most part indifferent to the monarchy, if not opponents. In spite of having died ten years before the advent of the Republic in Brazil it is possible to know his opinion about the acts of Deodoro da Fonseca and Floriano Peixoto (both veterans of the Paraguayan War) besides having been insubordinate and betrayed the legal government they also became the first two presidents and dictators of the country: "It would be a wretch who, having fought the external enemy with the weapons of war, would then place those same weapons at the service of despotism, persecution and violence against his countrymen." The bier with its remains, embalmed, was placed in the chapel of the War Arsenal, now destroyed.

Sergius III as depicted in the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls Much of Sergius’ pontificate has been maligned throughout history, principally through the reporting of his character and the state of Rome at the time by Liutprand of Cremona. His recounting of the period was remarkable for the rise of what 19th century papal historians saw as a "pornocracy", or "rule of the harlots", a reversal of the natural order as they saw it, according to Liber pontificalis and a later chronicler who was also biased against Sergius III. This "pornocracy" was an age with women in power: Theodora, whom Liutprand characterized as a "shameless whore... [who] exercised power on the Roman citizenry like a man" and her daughter Marozia, the mother of Pope John XI and reputed to be the mistress of Sergius III, largely upon a remark by Liutprand. Caesar Baronius, writing in the 16th century, and basing himself on Liutprand, was particularly scathing, describing Sergius as: ”a wretch, worthy of the rope and of fire... flames could not have caused this execrable monster to suffer the punishments which he merited.
" "There are quite a few ways of presenting The Desperate Man, but all of them I think would have to evoke its extraordinary verbal violence, which is none other than the counterpart of a whole, inconceivable in our day when geldings are recompensed by so-called literary prizes as if they were battle steeds, his stylistic invention, which French literature has never perhaps seen to such a degree of concentration, or preciptiation, since Léon Bloy, except in Louis-Ferdinand Céline.... Léon Bloy's incendiary violence [in this novel] is parabolic, apocalyptic... it deploys a magnificent canvas that a half-mad painter would have patiently painted to try and replace reality, and offers to its spectators, dumbfounded, a second reality enriched by a symbolic interpretation of History and its arcana." "The Desperate Man is the autobiographical recitation of that poor wretch who will pass his life in filthy poverty, hurling his hatred at the stupidity of the middleclass, all the while cherishing the prostitutes whom he removes from their misery while devoting themselves to Christ above all with supernatural delectation. But it's not a blissful smile that characterizes this love, absolutely not. Rather, it's a torrent of tears.
