Tophet is an unincorporated place and railway point in geographic Mountbatten Township in the Unorganized North Part of Sudbury District in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It is on Tophet Creek in the James Bay drainage basin. Tophet is on the Canadian Pacific Railway transcontinental main line, between the community of Nemegos to the west and the railway point of Kinogama to the east. It is passed but not served by the Via Rail Sudbury – White River train.

Several apparent tophets have been identified, chiefly a large one in Carthage, dubbed the Tophet of Salammbó, after the neighbourhood where it was unearthed in 1921. Soil in the Tophet of Salammbó was found to be full of olive wood charcoal, probably from the sacrificial pyres. It was the location of the temple of the goddess Tanit and the necropolis. Animal remains, mostly sheep and goats, found inside some of the Tophet urns, strongly suggest that this was not a burial ground for children who died prematurely.

The devil begins to appear to Bobby as a prospective agent called Harry O. Tophet and offers Shelton a deal—seven years of unprecedented fame and fortune. Shelton balks at the deal and so Tophet renegotiates claiming that it will be for a "trial period", urging Bobby to leave his earnest agent Charlie (Eugene Roche). Shelton signs the document, but his signature transforms into that of established rock star Billy Wayne (Robert Desiderio), the last person to whom Tophet offered this deal, and soon after Bobby realizes that he has sold his soul to the devil. Shelton discovers that, though he now has the big success he wanted after a mammoth concert tour, he has lost his identity—he is now Billy Wayne.

Subsequent frequentations are witnessed by some Constantinian era coins found in the tophet area. According to a study published in 2018, ancient Phoenician DNA found in the settlement suggests that there was integration and cultural assimilation between Sardinians and Phoenicians in Monte Sirai.

The animals were sacrificed to the gods, presumably in place of children (one surviving inscription refers to the animal as "a substitute"). It is conjectured that the children unlucky enough not to have substitutes were also sacrificed and then buried in the Tophet. The remains include the bodies of both very young children and small animals, and those who argue in favor of child sacrifice have argued that if the animals were sacrificed then so too were the children. The area covered by the Tophet in Carthage was probably over an acre and a half by the fourth century BCE, with nine different levels of burials.

Dr. Quincy Tophet was a paleomicrobiologist. In season 1 he was a mole for the Russians due to the fact they were holding his family captive. He was shot in the season 1 finale and allowed himself to be killed rather than reveal the location of the cure. He was portrayed by Sam Spruell.

Rusippisir was established as a colony on the trade route between Phoenicia and the Strait of Gibraltar. Its port was nearby Iomnium (present-day Tigzirt). It later fell under Carthaginian and then, after the Punic Wars, Roman hegemony. Punic steles in Rusippisir continued to be produced well into the imperial period and there was tophet in the town.

It stands 1 nautical mile (1.9 km) east of Saunders Point on the south coast of Coronation Island in the South Orkney Islands. Roughly surveyed in 1933 by DI personnel. The name, which is biblical, was applied by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) following their survey of 1948–49.

The town was affected by the Carthaginian conquest in the 6th century BC. A dozen new families settled subsequently in Monte Sirai, as witnessed by many hypogeum-tombs of Punic types; the rite of cremation, prevalent during the Phoenician period, was substituted by the entombment. The city wall was strengthened around 375 BC, roughly the period of appearance of the first local tophet. A subsequent restoration of the fortifications was carried out after the First Punic War; under the Roman rule all the military facilities were dismantled. Around 110 BC the site was inexplicably abandoned.

Monte Sirai is an archaeological site near Carbonia, in the province of South Sardinia, Sardinia, Italy. It's a settlement built at the top of a hill by the Phoenicians of Sulci (today's Sant'Antioco). The history of studies in Monte Sirai has a very precise date: the fall of 1962, when a local boy casually found a female figure carved on a stele of the tophet. Following further inspections, in August 1963, the local Soprintendenza and the Institute of Near Eastern Studies of the Sapienza University of Rome started excavations, leading to a fairly comprehensive study of the entire town.

During the Punic era, from the end of the 6th century B.C., the city took on the appearance of an authentic urban center and many temples were built, including one dedicated to the goddess Astarte, near the promontory of St. Elias. The town had two cemeteries, a northwestern one corresponding to the necropolis of Tuvixeddu, considered the largest Phoenician necropolis in the Mediterranean, and a southeastern one located on the hill of Bonaria, while the Tophet, the cremation necropolis where the urns of children were deposited, was in an area now called Campo Scipione-San Paolo.

During a climactic poker game between God and the devil over Bobby's soul, God raises the stakes while Bobby under Tophet's machinations attempts suicide. God claims that if he loses, in addition to Bobby's soul, he will stop protecting all those on "his list". If God wins, the devil would be prevented from meddling with any of those on the list, even if they beg for his assistance. Considering the loss too high, Tophet folds, and finds that God had been bluffing and that part of the reason he had intervened for Bobby was because the devil had become too arrogant and cocky.

Dr. Rachel Scott, M.D., Ph.D. was the leading paleomicrobiologist aboard the USS Nathan James (DDG-151) alongside Doctor Quincy Tophet. She worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization to create a cure for the virus that had wiped out most of the human race. Little is known about her personal life, however it was confirmed that she had a boyfriend whose fate was unknown; furthermore, she and Tex had a very close relationship. In the Season 2 finale she was shot dead after finding a way to spread the cure by person-to-person contact.

Archaeologically, the new foundation is characterised by the focus of religious cult on the gods Tanit and Baal Hammon, by the development of a new religious structure, the tophet, and by a marked degree of cosmopolitanism. Carthage gained direct control over the Cap Bon peninsula, operating a sandstone quarry at El Haouaria from the middle of the seventh city and establishing the city of Kerkouane in the early sixth century. The region was very fertile and allowed Carthage to be economically self-sufficient. The site of Kerkouane has been extensively excavated and provides the best-known example of a Punic city from North Africa.

He is married to Christine Slattery (Ele Keats), with whom he has three children, two daughters and a son, Lucas. Stelae in the Tophet of Salammbó covered by a vault built in the Roman period is a Hebrew term from the Bible, used to refer to a site near Jerusalem at which Canaanites and Israelites who strayed from Judaism by practicing Canaanite idolatry were said to sacrifice children. It is now used as a general term for all such sites with cremated human and animal remains. The Hebrew Bible does not specify that the Israelite victims were buried, only burned, although the "place of burning" was probably adjacent to the place of burial. We have no idea how the Phoenicians themselves referred to the places of burning or burial, or to the practice itself.

The ancient Berber people of North Africa also adopted the Punic cult of Tanit. Her symbol (the sign of Tanit), found on many ancient stone carvings, appears as a trapezium closed by a horizontal line at the top and surmounted in the middle by a circle; the horizontal arm is often terminated either by two short upright lines at right angles to it or by hooks. Later, the trapezium was frequently replaced by an isosceles triangle.
