After about an hour and a half of this, the party was clearly dying down and began to feel quite a bit like one of the Def Con villages, albeit one with far fewer computers and far more topless women: the same thudding bass rhythms, the same ambient lighting, the same social awkwardness.

Capable of flipping between tones with the clarity of cut glass and an equally moving deeper register—one that conjures a windswept banshee on the moors—the Irish singer's debut EP W.I.LD. (Wake - Induced Lucid Dream), is an accomplished collection of baroque pop with thudding drums peppered throughout, they annouce her arrival.

Aukstuolis, who looks like a Street Fighter character and dressed up as Ryu as he made his ringwalk, was thumped with a number of hard shots from Bajor in the opening stanza, though the smaller man in Aukstuolis never seemed perturbed by those thudding punches and kicks and continually threw back in some wild exchanges.

The Blackfish reliably refuses to give up the castle, tool-of-the-realm Edmure is reliably weak-willed in allowing Jaime's forces to take it anyway, and that's a good shorthand for the whole episode: Everyone is reliable to the point of routine (though I thought the "He's milord, milord" guy did a great job delivering the most thudding line in fantasy history).

Look forward to more of the same in 2017: the patter of rakes against faces growing into a cacophony, thudding across the world—blundering stupidity as the only form of political action from every social sector, the birth of a hideous new evil tearing itself free from the world in a storm of blood, and all because a few Netflix addicts can't admit that they're not as smart as they think they are.

From the heartfelt new-wave jangles of The Call's "The Walls Came Down" (played during the aftermath of a fight scene) to the yearning pop melodies of The Cure's "Fascination Street" (played when Hannah is detailing how she was stalked) to the ultra-dramatic, thudding synth of Ultravox's "Vienna" (played during the series' finale), there's a reason you have a lump in your throat during so many of these scenes, and it has very little to do with the story itself.
