For more than 20 years, Fort Street High School has supported a student led and mentored, voluntary Christian program called STIVE. STIVE, abbreviated from "students alive" meets every Friday lunchtime in the school gymnasium and offers Christian focused learning and fellowship for all Fortians who wish to attend. This programme is senior student lead and delivered to the participating student body. Stive offers a place to gather, talk and learn about the bible.

Marcel Stive studied Civil engineering at the Delft University of Technology, where he graduated in 1977 and received his doctorate in 1988 under professor Jurjen Battjes. After graduating in 1977 Stive started working at WL-Delft Hydraulics, where he worked until 1992. In 1992 he became a professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain. In 1994 her returned to WL-Delft Hydraulics and at the same time began to work as a professor of Coastal Morphodynamics at the Delft University of Technology.

Professor Marcel Stive is considered the inventor of the sand engine. Another such project could provide a solution to the weak coast between Camperduin and Petten, which is called the Hondsbossche seawall. The experience of this first sand engine is interesting for future projects. The construction of the sand engine at Ter Heijde cost 70 million euros and is the first in the world of its kind.
