The Thomas and Ruckle Road, also known as Ruckles Road or Ruckels Road, was a wagon road over the Blue Mountains. George Thomas was a stagecoach driver who came west to California in 1849, before moving to Walla Walla. Colonel J. S. Ruckle arrived in Oregon in 1855 as a steam boat pilot for the Oregon Steam Navigation Company (OSN) along the Columbia River. Eventually Ruckle left the OSN and ran his own boat along the river.

Captain Castaneda moved to San Francisco and never developed Rancho Cotate. Because he failed to fulfill the legal requirements of the grant, he lost control of the rancho, which passed to Thomas Larkin and then to Joseph Ruckle. In 1849, Ruckle sold the land to Dr. Thomas Stokes Page, a former resident of Valparaíso, Chile, for $1600. Read's Cavern is a cave at Burrington Combe, Somerset, England, in which traces of Iron Age occupation have been found. It lies under Dolbury Hill. Its large main chamber has a boulder ruckle floor and is parallel to a cliff face. The cave was excavated by the University of Bristol Spelæological Society (UBSS) in the 1920s, when relics of Iron Age occupation were found.

The rail portage, which was the Oregon Portage Railroad, was around the Cascades on the Columbia, and was the first railroad in Oregon.

Stream Passage Pot is at the end of a blind valley. The water sinks to one side of the valley before the end, and the entrance is through a boulder ruckle down a vertical lined shaft for . An awkward passage soon terminates in a small pitch into a chamber where the stream enters. A high meandering passage from the chamber leads after about to an deep rift which is descended in three stages.

Tani Ruckle (born 25 June 1962) is a Canadian-born former long-distance runner who represented Australia. She ran her career-best time for the marathon with 2:31:19 for fourth at the 1988 Chicago Marathon. That performance moved her to second on the Australian all-time list behind Lisa Martin, and as of 2018, ranks her 12th. She won a silver medal in the marathon at the 1990 Commonwealth Games.

The Oregon Steam Navigation Company (O.S.N.) was an American company incorporated in 1860 in Washington with partners J. S. Ruckle, Henry Olmstead, and J. O. Van Bergen. It was incorporated in Washington because of a lack of corporate laws in Oregon, though it paid Oregon taxes. The company operated steamships between San Francisco and ports along the Columbia River at Astoria, Portland and The Dalles, serving the lumber and salmon fishing industries.

The water flows through Stream Passage into Stream Chamber. From here a route to the right follows a succession of chambers towards Gaping Gill Main Chamber, but the stream works its way through a boulder ruckle in Stream Chamber to a lower stream passage and the final pitch of , known as Mud Pot.

Summerville was platted on September 20, 1873, along Ruckle Road by William H. Patten. Patten had a freight depot along Ruckles Road, only the second road over the Blue Mountains, which was a popular route over the Blue Mountains until it washed out in 1884. Speculators and investors then moved to Elgin, Oregon. An 1888 Sanborn map, the first of four of the city, shows an opera hall, bank, livery, drugstore, as well as other stores.

In 1971 the Taylorcraft Aviation Corporation, owned by Charles Feris put the Model 19 back into production as the F-19 Sportsman and added the F-21 model. Feris died in 1976 and the production continued at a low rate until 1985. Charles Ruckle bought the company in 1985 and he moved the operation to Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, where the company produced 16 aircraft before it went bankrupt in 1986 and the company was offered for sale.

The two men planned and built the road in 1864 and 1865, as well as a stage line from Walla Walla to the Idaho Mines. The road ran from the northwest to the southeast, offering a more direct connection to Walla Walla, despite being longer than the Meacham Road. The Ruckle Road, as well as others over the Blues, charged $3 to $5 per wagon. Several towns were platted along the road: Summerville in 1873, and Cove sometime in the 1870s.

Ruckle's son Thomas Coke Ruckle (1811–1891) was also a painter. He received a formal training in fine art at the Royal Academy in London from 1839 to 1841. On his return to Maryland he became a successful portrait painter, working out of a studio in Baltimore St. He also worked as an illustrator, creating a series of scenes of the American West, and also a number of drawings for a volume titled Early History of Methodism in Maryland, published in 1866.

Shortly before the third pitch, a high aven is where Marilyn, the third entrance, enters the system. The fifth pitch is the largest at , and this enters a large chamber. The way on is down a boulder ruckle and along a spacious passage for some to the connection with Hensler's Master Cave in the main Gaping Gill System. Motley Pot, (), currently blocked, enters some small passages carrying the main stream from the adjacent sink to a climb down just upstream of the main entrance.

In 1861, John W. Brazee of the Oregon Portage Company started to build a broad gauge railroad out of a mule-and-wagon road that had been constructed by Col. Joseph S. Ruckle and Harrison Olmstead in 1856 but had been out of service since around 1858. Brazee's conversion of the road cost $50,000 USD (), and the line opened on 20 May 1861, still relying on mule power. After one more year, the portage company acquired the Oregon Pony, which became the first locomotive in the Pacific Northwest,Strack, Don (13 December 2009).

The cave was dug into on 10 March 1949, and explored by the Northern Pennine Club during the following Easter weekend. The entrance became blocked in the early 1980s, and in 1984 it was re-opened by the Bradford Pothole Club who installed the current galvanised tubing through the unstable boulder ruckle in the shakehole. In November 1979 the cave became the centre of a major rescue when Jeremy Peterson went missing on a solo pull-through trip. He was found alive and well after 57 hours, having gone off route and fallen down the Mud Pot pitch.

The first Rhino store was opened in 1989 in Ocala, Florida. Mike Vorce (founder and President), with the help of Bruce Ruckle, created a specialty video game store focused on buying, selling, trading, and renting video game software, systems, and accessories. By 1992, a second location was opened in Gainesville, which would become a flagship store and eventually the site for the company's corporate headquarters and distribution center. The fourth season introduces several new characters, including Vince Howard (Michael B. Jordan), a talented athlete who has never played football before, but he rises to stardom as the team's quarterback. Luke Cafferty (Matt Lauria) is a running back and is romantically with Becky Sproles (Madison Burge), a beauty-queen hopeful who has complicated family issues; Becky also develops a deep relationship with Riggins. Jess Merriweather (Jurnee Smollett), an East Dillon student who works at her father's restaurant and cares for her three younger brothers; she briefly dates Landry and has a relationship with Vince; and shows aspirations of being a football coach. Hastings Ruckle (Grey Damon) is introduced in the fifth season, a basketball player turned football player, who serves as a receiver for the Lions.

As in Edinburgh (Commonwealths) and Rome (Worlds), she was once again the top British finisher. At the 1989 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, she finished 13th. In January 1990, she again was the top British athlete in the marathon when winning a bronze medal for England at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland in 2:36:35, behind the Australian pair of Lisa Martin and Tani Ruckle. At the 1990 European Championships in Split, now competing as Angie Hulley, she finished 15th in the 10,000 metres in 33:06.09. She then finished second at the 1991 Pittsburgh Marathon in 2:45:46 and 38th at the 1993 World Marathon Cup in San Sebastián in 2:43:38. In 1988, she ran her fastest ever marathon, when winning in Osaka with a time of 2:23:51, which at the time made her the fourth-fastest woman marathon runner in history, behind Ingrid Kristiansen, Joan Benoit and Rosa Mota. Later that year, she won a silver medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in 2:25:53, 13 seconds behind Mota. In January 1990, she retained her Commonwealth marathon title at the Auckland Games. In a solo performance, she finished over seven minutes ahead of silver medallist Australian team-mate Tani Ruckle. Her time of 2:25:28 remains a Games record (as of 2014). Divorced from Martin, she married Kenyan distance runner Yobes Ondieki in 1990 and missed the rest of that season due to pregnancy, giving birth to their daughter in November 1990. In 1991, she achieved her third top three finish at the New York Marathon, finishing third in a race won by Scotland's Liz McColgan. In January 1992, she finished second in the Tokyo Half Marathon, running a lifetime best of 68:33, in a race won by McColgan in 67:11.
