In Central Asian Buddhist countries, it has been widely believed for the last millennium that Avalokiteśvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, has a special relationship with the people of Tibet and intervenes in their fate by incarnating as benevolent rulers and teachers such as the Dalai Lamas. The Upanishad, after an initial prayer offering to Indra, Garuda, and Brihaspati seeking prosperity and peace to all, extols Lord Shiva or Mahesvara, in the first two verses as original God, creator of Brahma, Vishnu and other divinities, as governs the world, as the chief architect of the Vedas who conveyed it to Brahma, who dismantled the universe at the great flood, and was the Lord of Lords. In the third verse of the Upanishad the narration is of Shiva incarnating as Sarabha, in the form of a fierce anthropomorphic combination of eagle, lion, and man. Sarabha slays Narasimha, an incarnation of Vishnu, because he was causing destruction in the world. According to the Puranas, Sarabha was one of Shiva's sixty four avatars (forms), to assist the heavenly devas and the human beings.

Maitreya or Lord Maitreya is described in Theosophical literature of the late 19th-century and subsequent periods as an advanced spiritual entity and high-ranking member of a hidden Spiritual Hierarchy, the so-called Masters of the Ancient Wisdom. According to Theosophical doctrine, one of the Hierarchy's functions is to oversee the evolution of Humankind; in accord with this function Maitreya is said to hold the so-called Office of the World Teacher. Theosophical texts posit that the purpose of this Office is to facilitate the transfer of knowledge about the true constitution and workings of Existence, thereby helping humanity in progression on a cyclical, but ever progressive, evolutionary path. This knowledge transfer is sometimes said to occur through Maitreya occasionally manifesting or incarnating in the physical realm, then assuming the role of World Teacher of Humankind.

By doing so, and by translating the Bible into indigenous languages, this work allowed for the poor of San Cristóbal to begin identifying parallels between their own experiences of oppression with those in Biblical passages, most notably the Exodus.

As an angel sent by the forces of Heaven to Earth, Janus possessed superhuman strength, weather- controlling powers and immunity to Dracula's vampiric hypnotic powers, as well as being able to break his hypnotic hold over others. Janus could fire beams of concussive force from his eyes and to absorb and repel energies hurled against him, radiate blinding light, place people in temporal stasis, teleport himself and others at least thousands of miles across the face of the Earth, create illusory images, and transform into a golden eagle, retaining wings in humanoid form if desired. Janus could cause Dracula pain with a mere glance; he appeared able to survive physical death in astral form before incarnating in a new body. What special attributes the infant Janus might possess as a result of his vampire parentage remain unrevealed.

Bernard de Montréal Bernard de Montréal (July 26, 1939 – October 15, 2003) was a Canadian author and lecturer. The author defined his teachings as Psychologie Évolutionnaire, which translates into English as Evolutionary Psychology (not to be confused with the similar term applying to a branch of cognitive psychology that draws on the sociobiological theories of natural evolution). The term "Evolutionary Psychology", in context of its use in Bernard de Montréal's work refers to the study of human evolution, that is to say the study of mankind's return to his multidimensional source and to his awareness of this. It describes an ascending, individuating process leading to his multidimensional reality, whereas the naïve or unconscious soul, involved collectively in spiritualizing the material dimensions through its domination by "belief systems", is a descending or incarnating, collective experience, or involution, as it is termed by the author.

The main ritual, which may last from two to seven hours, begins with petitions to Buddha and to the deities for permission to carry out the ritual, after which the medium seats him or herself (both men and women may act as mediums) in the middle of four assistants, whose job it is to facilitate the medium's incarnation of different deities and spirits. Specially trained musicians and singers will perform invocation songs to induce a trance in the medium, at which point he or she will be ready to incarnate different spirits. Assistants will help the medium don different costumes to match the particular gods they are incarnating; for example, if a practitioner is acting as a medium for a god who takes the form of a general, he or she may wear a general's robes, and perform a dance incorporating swords or other weapons. A medium may incarnate several gods during one session, changing his or her costume and adapting his or her movements to each.

Secondly it sets into place a system of regulating the entire industry itself as a whole, through taxation norms, through reformist agendas and policies to improve cinema etc., and finally through the staging of the pedagogic function of censorship, where censorship is not merely about prohibiting a particular view, but since the native actually does not know how to see, or what to see, censorship is also tied to the task of teaching the natives to see properly. This reformist agenda is described by Ashish Rajadhyaksha as the process of “creating a better cinema and worthy of incarnating the citizen as the filmgoing subject” The interlinked ideas of regulation, reform and education establishes the normative function of cinema and of censorship, and one of the challenges lies in ways in which we can read them not as they traditionally have been in isolated modes, but in a way that renders them a part of a larger project of mobilizing (to borrow from Saeed Mirza) a certain kind of cinema for a certain kind of state.

Takahashi named this organization Shinkoukai ("Society for Incarnating the Light of God"). In August 1971, after a follower of the Zuihoukai,Zuihoukai is a Buddhist New Religion organization – a sect of the Reiyukai (a new religion based on the Threefold Lotus Sutra) that was based in Osaka at the time and that preached the commemoration of one’s ancestors based on Hokkekyo (Lotus Sutra) listened to Takahashi's teachings at a workshop at Mt. Izuru in Tochigi prefecture, the entire Zuihoukai religious association merged with, and converted to, the teachings of the Shinkoukai. Since the Zuihoukai was an organization that had obtained corporate status as a religious corporation, the Shinkoukai became known as the "Shinkoukai Religious Corporation".In accordance with a law that prescribes that if merging with an organization that has obtained corporate status as a religious corporation, this corporate status must be retained (Religious Corporation Law, Article 39) After the merger, Shinkoukai was renamed with an English name, the "God Light Association" (GLA), taking the internationalization of this organization into consideration.

In a mythical "Arabian Nights" prologue two crossed lovers are struck by a curse cast unto them by a powerful witch (Lia Zoppelli) who had betrothed her own daughter, Candida, (Gloria Guida) to the evil tyrant Ali Amman, while the girl was passionately in love with "Giorgiafat" (Renato Pozzetto); the witch turns the two lovers into salt statues forcing their disembodied souls to wander for a thousand years before re-incarnating and meeting again. If they would be able to prolong Candida's virginity until the thousandth anniversary of the curse expires, they will be able to live happily, if not the curse would renew itself. A thousand years later Giorgio is a young Italian bank clerk who has to move from Milan to Rome for work reasons, promising his girlfriend Candida to find a suitable abode for them and her own mother (again, Lia Zoppelli). After many comical incidents Giorgio finds a luxurious mansion for rent at a ludicrously low price and is soon joined by Candida and her mother.

While Jeungsanism in general believes that Sangje remained for thirty years in the giant Maitreya Buddha statue at the Geumsansa temple before incarnating as Kang Jeungsan, Kim's branch taught that, after he died, Kang took to reside again in the statue. Kim gained some support for this belief among the Buddhist monks at Geumsansa, but in 1922 was expelled from the monastery by the abbot, an incident that led to the decline of his branch. Another important branch emerged in the 1920s around Jo Cheol-Je, known to his disciples as Jo Jeongsan (1895-1958). Jo had never personally met Kang, but claimed to have received a revelation from him in 1917. Eventually, he was recognized as the mysterious successor Kang had announced in his prophecies by the deceased Kang’s sister (Seondol, ca. 1881-1942), mother (Kwon, 1850-1926) and daughter (Sun-Im, 1904-1959), although the daughter eventually started her own separate branch with her husband Kim Byeong-cheol (1905-1970). Sun-Im's branch, known as Jeung San Beob Jong Gyo, is headquartered in Korea's North Jeolla province, and after protracted litigation with other branches obtained the mortal remains of Kang, which are currently at its headquarters.
