The Empire Builder, operated by Amtrak, provides daily rail service from the Wisconsin Dells Amtrak station. The station was built in the 1980s in the style of the original station.

Rocky Arbor State Park is a Wisconsin state park in the Wisconsin Dells region. The park was established in 1932 to protect sandstone outcrops eroded into picturesque walls and ledges.

The Wisconsin Dells resort opened in May 2000. It has 756 guest rooms, making it the second largest-resort in the state. The convention center has expanded from to .Bishop, Christy.

State Trunk Highway 23 (often called Highway 23, STH 23 or WIS 23) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The route is signed as a north–south route from Shullsburg to Wisconsin Dells and as an east–west route from Wisconsin Dells to Sheboygan. With the exception of freeway segments between Sheboygan Falls and Sheboygan, an expressway segment between Sheboygan Falls and near Greenbush, a freeway concurrency with I-39, and an expressway segment concurrent with U.S. Route 151, the highway is generally either two-lane surface road or urban multilane arterial. WIS 23 provides access to several important Wisconsin destinations, such as the House on the Rock, the Wisconsin Dells area and various state parks.

In 1972, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes released their first single, a slow, solemn ballad entitled "I Miss You". The song was originally written for The Dells, but the group passed on it. Noting how Pendergrass sounded like Dells lead singer Marvin Junior, Kenny Gamble decided to build the song with Pendergrass, who was only 21 at the time of the recording. Pendergrass sings much of the song in a raspy baritone voice that would become his trademark.

WIS 16 turns east onto WIS 13 north as WIS 23 west turns south onto US 12\. These highways follow the Wisconsin Dells Parkway south into the heart of the Wisconsin Dells tourism district, — passing such attractions as Noah's Ark Waterpark, the Wisconsin Ducks boat tours, Kalahari Resort, Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park, Wilderness Territory, and Tommy Bartlett's Thrill Show. WIS 23 turns west onto Monroe Ave as US 12 turns southeast and crosses the Interstates.

Mayor Brian Landers stated "Many of our own residents take duck rides. I've taken duck rides myself". Since the late 1970s, the Dells area (Wisconsin Dells and Lake Delton) has become a water park mecca. Noah's Ark Waterpark opened in Lake Delton in 1979, and has become the largest and the eighth most visited water park in the U.S. Other outdoor amusement and water parks followed, featuring water slides, mini golf, roller coasters, go-karts, and other attractions.

Companies like Great Wolf Resorts/Great Wolf Lodge and Kalahari Resorts have branched out from their origin in Wisconsin Dells to open new locations around the country. Mt. Olympus Theme and Water Park (formerly Family Land) is another huge water park in the Dells. The largest indoor water park in the UK is Sandcastle Water Park in Blackpool, England, which opened in 1986. There are many water parks in southern Europe where the climate suits a long season.

He raced at LaCrosse, State Park Speedway in Wausau, Grundy County Speedway, Wisconsin Dells Speedway (now Dells Raceway Park), and Waukegan. In 1980, he finished second in the points at Wisconsin International Raceway (WIR) behind Alan Kulwicki. Musgrave's highlight of the 1982 season was winning the Holiday 50 at Capital Speedway (now Madison International Speedway). Musgrave qualified the fastest five times in a row at WIR and was leading the points when he battered his wrist in a wreck.

He returned the following week in a cast with a special arm support in the car. He finished third in points. Musgrave won ten CWRA features in 1983, including the Holiday 50 at Capital Super Speedway, the Triple Hot Dog Dash at Wisconsin Dells, and the Race of Champions at Capital's Oktober Nationals. Musgrave won seven features at Capital in 1984, along with two features at LaCrosse, two at State Park, and two at Wisconsin Dells.

Dell Prairie is located at (43.689600, -89.748050). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and , or 3.69%, is water. The western boundary of the town is formed by the Wisconsin River, which flows through the Upper Wisconsin Dells along the southern part of the town boundary. The city of Wisconsin Dells extends north from Columbia County into land along the Wisconsin River that was formerly in Dell Prairie.

John E. Carter (June 2, 1934 - August 21, 2009) was an American doo-wop and R&B; singer. He was a founding member of The Flamingos and a member of The Dells. Both groups have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, making Carter one of the few multiple inductees. He joined The Dells as a replacement for Johnny Funches in 1960 and remained an active member of the group until his death.

The Dells grew up in Harvey, Illinois and began singing together while attending Thornton Township High School. Forming in 1952 under the name the El-Rays, the group initially consisted of Marvin Junior, Mickey McGill, Lucius McGill, Verne Allison, Chuck Barksdale, and Johnny Funches. Lucius McGill soon left the group and the remaining quintet signed with Checker Records, releasing their first single, "Darling I Know," which flopped. In 1955, the group renamed themselves the Dells and signed with Vee-Jay Records.

The Royal Masonic School for Girls occupies a site of , of which was once Rickmansworth Deer Park. It is a haven to a wide variety of flora and fauna, almost an island of tranquillity within the M25. There are two Dells, over 40 feet deep, in which the herd of fallow deer, that were on the estate when it was a Deer Park, used to be wintered. The Dells were originally dug for the limestone that was used as road bottoming.

Wisconsin Dells is an Amtrak intercity train station in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, served by Amtrak's daily Empire Builder. Despite the antiquated appearance, the station was built in 1989. The station is a replica of a former Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad Depot,Columbia County, Wisconsin Railroad Structures and is in close proximity to a tourist railroad called the Riverside and Great Northern Railway. The previous station on this site was damaged by a Soo Line Railroad freight train derailing in 1982.

Dutch Hollow Lake (Lat. 43 degrees/Long. 90 degrees) has an elevation of 951 feet (290 m). It is northwest of the city of Reedsburg, with the city of Wisconsin Dells thirty minutes away.

In 2005, Dell was awarded a contract with HCPS for high school students. Middle schoolers received Dells at the beginning of the 2010–2011 school year. Response to the laptop program has been mainly positive.

He had won a couple of features and had set fast time at Wisconsin Dells Speedway (now Dells Raceway Park). At the off-season banquet for Slinger Super Speedway, he told track owner Wayne Erickson that he would win the 1983 track championship. Bickle focused on winning Slinger's track championship that year and he finished in the Top 5 in 17 of 18 features that season to win the track championship. In 1984 he raced primarily at Slinger, Wisconsin International Raceway (WIR), and Capital.

Prints of these photographs were distributed across the United States, further enhancing the status of Kilbourn City as a destination for sightseers. Taking advantage of this, Bennett began offering to take souvenir pictures of visitors to the dells, becoming one of the first to capitalize on the area's burgeoning tourist trade. Today, the H. H. Bennett Studio is an historic site operated by the Wisconsin Historical Society. The Dells region remained primarily a place for sightseers to escape the bustle of the city for many decades.

The bay has a varied and different geology from that of the neighbouring Bracelet Bay. This is one of the many 'slades' one finds in Gower - small valleys or dells, usually opening on to the sea.

In 1966, the Dells returned to Chess under the label's Cadet subsidiary working with Bobby Miller and future Earth, Wind & Fire arranger Charles Stepney. In 1967, the Dells issued the album There Is which included their first R&B; chart-topper in years with the title track, which showcased the sharp baritone of Marvin Junior and the harmonies with the four other Dells. The song was also their first top 20 pop hit. Subsequent R&B; hits included "Wear It on Our Face," "Always Together" (Top 20 Pop), "I Can Sing a Rainbow - Love is Blue (medley)" (UK No. 15), and their first No. 1 R&B; hit and first Top Ten pop hit, 1968's "Stay in My Corner," which reached No. 10 on the pop chart and showcased both Carter and Marvin in lead vocals.

Wisconsin Dells was founded as Kilbourn City in 1857 by Byron Kilbourn, who also founded Kilbourntown, one of the three original towns at the confluence of the Milwaukee, Menomonee, and Kinnickinnic Rivers that joined to become Milwaukee. Before the establishment of Kilbourn City, the region around the dells of the Wisconsin River was primarily a lumbering area until 1851, when the La Crosse and Milwaukee Railroad was chartered, with Kilbourn as its president. The railroad made plans to bridge the Wisconsin River near the river's dells, and a boomtown named Newport sprang up at the expected site of the bridge in 1853. The population of this new city quickly swelled to over 2,000, but when the railroad finally came through the area in 1857 it took nearly everyone by surprise by crossing the river a mile upstream from the site of Newport.

Charles Stepney (March 26, 1931– May 17, 1976) was an American record producer, arranger, songwriter and musician. Stepney is noted for his work with artists such as The Dells, Ramsey Lewis, Rotary Connection and Earth, Wind & Fire.

Architect John Nolen was hired in 1907 to draft a feasibility plan for a Wisconsin State Parks System and State Parks for Wisconsin was released later that year. The report was the guideline used to set up the state park system. It recommended the creation of four state parks: Dells of the Wisconsin River, Devil's Lake, Door County's Fish Creek (now Peninsula State Park) and the confluence of the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers (now Wyalusing State Park). Three became state parks, and the fourth became Dells Natural Area in 2005.

In the following year, 1969, The Dells' soulful remake of their debut hit, "Oh What a Night" gave the group their second chart-topping R&B; single and also reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100. For a second time, the song sold over a million copies. Subsequent hits included "Open Up My Heart," "Oh What A Day," and "On the Dock of the Bay." In 1971, the Dells' "The Love We Had Stays on My Mind" became another Top Ten hit on the R&B; chart, also reaching the pop Top 30.

Original Dells vocalist Johnny Funches died of pneumonia on January 23, 1998, at the age of 62. Johnny Carter died of cancer on August 21, 2009, at the age of 75. Carter is one of the few artists to be a double Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, having been inducted with The Flamingos in 2001, and the Dells in 2004. On May 29, 2013, founding member Marvin Junior died in his sleep at his home in Harvey, Illinois, succumbing to complications of kidney failure and a weak heart at the age of 77.

The Peavine National Recreation Trail follows what was the former rail bed of the Santa Fe. This railroad traveled from Prescott to Phoenix through the Granite Dells. The "Peavine" got its name from the winding portion of this railroad that twists and curves, resembling the vine on which peas grow. The Peavine trail connects to the Iron King Trail, which was the route of the old Prescott Railroad through the Granite Dells. Natural lakes include Lynx, Granite Basin and Goldwater, all surrounding different areas of this rustic community.

The Wonder Spot was a tourist attraction located off US Route 12 in Lake Delton, Wisconsin from 1949 to 2006. A popular side trip for visitors to nearby Wisconsin Dells, the Wonder Spot was advertised as a place "where the laws of natural gravity seem to be repealed." Visitors walked down a ravine into a cabin, where seemingly no one could stand up straight, water flowed backwards, and chairs could be balanced on two legs.George Hesselberg. With five indoor water parks, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin is supposed to be recognized as the "Water Park Capital of the World". It showcases several of America's largest indoor and outdoor water parks, such as Noah's Ark Water Park. Indoor water parks in Wisconsin Dells debuted in 1994 after the Polynesian Resort Hotel built the first one in the U.S. Success in extending the tourist season and turning water park resorts into vacation destinations has resulted in tremendous industry growth. Usually, resort hotels featuring massive indoor water parks have been reserved for overnight guests.

Chuck Barksdale died on May 15, 2019, at the age of 84. On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed The Dells among hundreds of artists whose material was reportedly destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire.

In 2005, Big Chief Karts and Coasters merged with the former Family Land Waterpark and Treasure Island Hotel to create a large theme park on the border of Lake Delton and Wisconsin Dells, with a resort called Hotel Rome, an indoor waterpark, outdoor waterpark, theme park, and the area's first indoor theme park. The park, which has roller coasters, go-karts, and water slides, is called Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park. The Tanger Outlet Center opened in 2006 near the Great Wolf Lodge, replacing the defunct Wisconsin Dells Greyhound Park, which opened in May 1990, but closed in 1996 due to heavy competition from the nearby Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells Bingo/Casino. Since Mt. Olympus opened the Parthenon Indoor Theme Park in 2006, two more indoor theme parks were constructed in the area: Knuckleheads outside the Tanger Complex in 2007, and Kalahari Resort in December 2008.

At 3:00 PM on May 11, 2011, Amy Fry-Pitzen and her son, Timmothy Pitzen checked into the resort. The next morning, they checked out of the resort, then driving to another resort, a Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

These interviews also formed the basis of Berg's book, The Sadist. Shortly after World War II, Kürten's head was transported to the United States. It is currently on display at the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

"Stay in My Corner" is a 1965 soul song by The Dells. It was released as a single on the Vee-Jay label and peaked in the top 30 on the R&B; singles chart. Three years later, The Dells rerecorded "Stay in My Corner" on the Cadet label and took the new version of the song to number one for three weeks on the R&B; charts. The single was the most successful of their career and crossed over to the pop charts as well.. The songwriters were Wade Flemons, Robert Eugene Miller, and Barrett Strong.

He is credited with introducing colorful costumes, and establishing themes for "dancing water", jumping boats, night shows, Polynesian dancers, show ski jumping, and skydivers. Bartlett's Wisconsin Dells show offered bumper stickers for its visitors to put on their cars, thus becoming advertisements for the show and the city across the nation, especially so in the Chicago metropolitan area. In addition to his water ski show, Bartlett invested in other tourist attractions in Wisconsin Dells, building "Tommy Bartlett's Robot World", a hands-on science museum, in the 1970s. The attraction is now known as the Tommy Bartlett Exploratory.

Nick Laskaris became involved in the design and engineering of the various go-kart tracks on the property, which included the only multi-level go-kart tracks in the world. Big Chief Go-Kart World, as it was then known, developed new techniques for elevated go-kart tracks, which have now become standard. The family purchased several acres along the Wisconsin Dells Parkway, commonly known as the "Strip", and continued the park's expansion. In 1995, the park added the first roller coaster in the Wisconsin Dells, Cyclops, and changed its name to Big Chief Karts & Coasters.

WDLS (900 AM) is a radio station in the resort community of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The station was the first in the industry to introduce a "visitor information" format since the format signed on during the Memorial Day weekend of 2004. Its approach emphasises tips and suggestions to help visitors make the best of their vacation time in the popular resort region, even to the point of actually encouraging visitors to come into the studios on Broadway in Downtown Wisconsin Dells and relate their experiences. The station's musical playlist is broad, extending to oldies, 1970s and 1980s hits, country standards and soft hits.

In 2007, Chula Vista constructed a new sports dome just south of the resort complex. It is home to many sports finals and events in Wisconsin and the Midwest. Also, concerts, indoor football, and trade shows take place at the Wisconsin Dells Center.

Fred Clark (born May 14, 1959) is an American forester, conservationist and businessman from the small Wisconsin city of Baraboo, currently serving as a Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Assembly representing the 81st Assembly District, which includes Baraboo, Portage, and Wisconsin Dells.

The precambrianRoadside Geology of Arizona, p. 168. Dells' granite has been theoretically dated at 1.4 billion years old. Its pluton was intruded at a depth of around one or two miles (1.6 to 3.2 km). These cover rocks have since been eroded away.

The Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Airport (KDLL) serves the city and surrounding communities, and is located on Bus. US 12 3 miles north of the city. State Highways 33, 113, 136, and U.S. 12 pass through Baraboo. There is access to Interstate 90/94 nearby.

He was known for blowing a tire right in front of the leaders Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards, whom Busch crashed in a NASCAR Nationwide race at Texas Motor Speedway. Schendel won the 2015 Super Late Model track championship at Dells Raceway Park in 2015.

The district's area is ; due to the overall size, geographical features and school placement, school bus transport serves the majority of the student body. Municipalities served by the district include Wisconsin Dells, Dell Prairie, Dellona, Delton, Jackson, Lake Delton, Lyndon, New Haven, Newport, and Springville.

Plainville is an unincorporated community located in the town of Dell Prairie, Adams County, Wisconsin, United States. Plainville is located at the intersection of Wisconsin Highway 13 and County Highway K north-northwest of Wisconsin Dells. The Wisconsin River runs west of the community.

The Dells Lumber and Puld Company was involved in paper making and was based in Eau Claire. The company built a headquarters and office west of Kennedy. Spur lines were built from Kennedy to seven logging camps to the north, near the Ashland County border.

Three interstate highways, Interstate 94, Interstate 90, and Interstate 39 run past Portage, giving the city a 30-minute commute to Madison and 15-minute commute to Wisconsin Dells. The city also lies only a few hours from Milwaukee, Chicago, and Minneapolis/ Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Weathering along joints produced the rounded boulders and other unusual rock formations that characterize the Granite Dells. After another four miles (6 km), WIS 23 joins WIS 33 and becomes an east–west route in Reedsburg and follows the route east for six miles (10 km), before turning off northeast and stair-stepping in that direction toward Lake Delton. The highway passes through Mirror Lake State Park just prior to entering the village via Monroe Avenue. WIS 23 joins US 12 west and both routes turn north into the heart of the Wisconsin Dells tourism district along Wisconsin Dells Parkway north – passing attractions such as Noah's Ark Waterpark the Wisconsin Ducks boat tours, and Tommy Bartlett's Thrill Show WIS 23 turns at the junction with WIS 13 and WIS 16 with both routes following it eastbound along Broadway Street through downtown Wisconsin Dells and into Columbia County WIS 13 turns north and WIS 16 turns south just east of the city and WIS 23 turns north into Adams County two miles (3 km) east of Wisconsin Dells. The highway then turns east, passing near Big Spring on the way into Marquette County after a six-mile (10 km) journey through Adams County. WIS 23 stairsteps northeast to Endeavor where it joins I-39/US 51 for six miles (10 km) before turning east off the interstate five miles (8 km) east of Oxford.

The Kalahari Resort and Convention Center is a water park resort chain with locations in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; Sandusky, Ohio; Pocono Manor, Pennsylvania; and planned for November 2020, in Round Rock, Texas. Named for the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa, the resorts are heavily decorated with African animals, plants, and other African motifs. The Pocono Mountains location's 220,000-square-foot indoor water park is the largest in the United States, followed by the 173,000-square-foot waterpark in Sandusky and the Wisconsin Dells' 125,000-square-foot park. On March 17, 2020, all of the Kalahari Resorts locations were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although black and white clips are shown of the fictional Five Heartbeats, none of the choreography is featured. Instead the audience witnesses an aged appearance of the Dells who stand still while singing the song and attempt to imitate the clapping and snapping portrayed in the movie.

None of these lakes permits swimming due to a history of water quality problems, however all are popular recreational destinations near Prescott. Granite Creek flows generally north from the Bradshaw Mountains through the city, the Granite Dells, and the Little Chino Valley to the Verde River.

Soon tourists who had made summer reservations at the lake's twenty resorts began canceling their reservations. The response of the local businesses was varied. The Delton Oaks Resort, a 60-year operation, closed temporarily. Meanwhile, the iconic Wisconsin Dells boat tours reopened despite the low water level.

Today, Amtrak's Empire Builder uses the CP between Chicago and St. Paul, but speed is limited to . Along this segment it stops in La Crosse, Tomah, Wisconsin Dells, and Portage. WRJC-FM (92.1 FM, "NOW 92ONE FM") is a radio station broadcasting a Hot Adult Contemporary format. Licensed to Mauston, Wisconsin, United States, the station serves the Wisconsin Dells area. The station is currently owned by Murphy's Law Media Group, LLC and features programming from CBS Radio.

"The Great Pool of Delphi", a 27,000 square foot swimming pool containing 500,000 gallons of water, was added in 2016. The pool was advertised as the largest swimming pool in Wisconsin Dells, the "waterpark capital of the world". The cost of this addition was $4 million.

Both locomotives were built at the Wisconsin Dells shops in the late 1950s, with #98 being the motive power for the Hoot-Toot & Whistle Railway near Elgin, Illinois. The railroad includes an operational joinery building where coaches are restored and maintained, a picnic area, and a gift shop.

WPDR (1350 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an oldies format. Prior to oldies, WPDR was News/Talk. Before that, WPDR played oldies and also played country music for many years. Licensed to Portage, Wisconsin, United States, the station serves the Wisconsin Dells, Portage, and North Madison Metro.

In 1985 opened in France. Another indoor water park in Europe was built in Blackpool in 1986. It is called the Sandcastle Water Park. The first indoor water park in the United States known as Great Wolf Lodge was built in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin at the Polynesian Hotel.

Dave Magnum (born December 25, 1962) is a former political candidate in Wisconsin. He was born in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Originally born with the last name Weiss, he was given the name Magnum after being hired at WIBA-FM in Madison, Wisconsin.

Other trees include sessile and pedunculate oak, ash, maple and hornbeam, with occasional wild service tree. The understory has elder, hazel, field maple and hawthorn, while the ground flora is donated by bramble. There are many natural ponds and dells. The site is private land with no public access.

In January 1982, Wickstrom lost when he sought election as chairman of the town of Fairbanks, Wisconsin."Leader of Posse denies Klan Link", Milwaukee Sentinel, April 3, 1981, part 2, page 3 He decided to set up his own municipality, a Posse enclave on the banks of the Embarras River within the boundaries of Fairbanks. He put public notice of the creation of the "Constitutional Township of Tigerton Dells" and a meeting to elect officers of the township in a local paper. The announcement described Wickstrom as "acting clerk"; at the meeting, Wickstrom was "elected" clerk and municipal judge and fellow Posse member Donald Minniecheske was "elected" the Tigerton Dells Chairman and Assessor.

In 2006, Chula Vista Theme Resort dropped the "Theme" from its name, becoming just Chula Vista Resort. Also, Chula Vista completed a $200 million expansion of the entire resort, including a new 80,000 multilevel indoor waterpark, a redesigned 18 hole Coldwater Canyon Golf Course, a condominium wing added onto the existing resort, golf villas along the fairways, an outdoor wave pool along the Wisconsin River, a riverwalk spanning the entire property, sand volleyball courts, a kiddie lazy river, a new steakhouse, and of convention space. This expansion turned Chula Vista into one of the premier waterpark resorts in the Wisconsin Dells and became one of the largest resorts in the Dells at 620 rooms.

Bartlett agreed to the request, keeping one arm of the show at Wisconsin Dells for daily performances on Lake Delton, while four additional road groups continued touring in cities across the United States. The success of the shows led the United Service Organizations (USO) to ask Bartlett to send the show overseas to entertain U.S. soldiers in the Far East, launching a branch of the tour in Asia. Bartlett had a long-term partnership with motor manufacturer Mercury Marine's owner Carl Kiekhaefer. Through his show, Bartlett has been credited both with popularizing water skiing from a smalltime hobby to a major sport, and with the establishment of Wisconsin Dells as a tourist mecca.

Williams grew up in Newport News, Virginia. At a young age he was influenced by jazz artists such as Kenny Burrell and Wes Montgomery. He later started up his professional music career with The Dells. This career path was halted when he went on to serve in the Vietnam War.

And he released his first album. In the 1960s he toured with Oscar Brown, appearing on the 1965 live album, Mr. Oscar Brown, Jr. Goes to Washington. In the mid-1960s he was house guitarist of Chess Records and he played with The Dells, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and Gene Chandler.

Zeus is a wooden roller coaster located at Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The ride was built by Custom Coasters International and opened in 1997. The ride operates with a single train built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company that has five cars each with four seats.

Farms, fields, and cranberry bogs cover the landscape, and sandstone buttes and mesas are not uncommon. The Wisconsin River dissects the plain here, creating the Wisconsin Dells. East of the river, moraines and small kettle lakes are interspersed throughout the plain. Forests and wetlands mark the northeastern section of the region.

Delco had an office, a warehouse, a blacksmith shop, and a horse barn. It existed only to handle wood, and the post office was only open between 1927 and 1929. The Dells Company continued logging until 1933. Virtually all other logging activities in Kennedy came to a halt in 1935.

They built about 15 locomotives and over 30 pieces of rolling stock. Trains that once ran at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago and the Knoxville Zoo were built at the Wisconsin Dells facilities.

The Ran-Dells were an American musical ensemble from Villas, New Jersey. In 1963 their novelty song "Martian Hop" peaked at #27 on the US Billboard black singles chart, and at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite releasing two follow-ups, lack of further chart entries made them one-hit wonders.

The resort is built around a tropical theme based on the Polynesian islands. Compared to its surrounding resorts and hotels, The Polynesian Resort Hotel is one of the smaller resorts in the Wisconsin Dells. It has a combined total of 200,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor waterpark, a restaurant, and an arcade.

Gradually, tourism became a large part of Kilbourn City. To make it easier for tourists to identify Kilbourn City with the natural landscape for which it was famous, the name of the city was changed to Wisconsin Dells in 1931. As the twentieth century progressed, new attractions began to draw even more tourists.

Village trustees were worried about someone crossing the busy Wisconsin Dells Parkway at night and getting hit by a car. The village of Lake Delton subsequently made some changes to the amusement ordinance, with a variance for businesses if they requested, including Mt. Olympus. The village board had these changes on hold.

The highways then junction with WIS 58 and WIS 82 in Mauston as they continue southeast. The routes slowly trek eastward and pass through Lyndon Station where Rocky Arbor State Park is located. The highways turn southeast again and crossing the Interstates and into Sauk County and Wisconsin Dells. WIS 16 turns east off of US 12 onto WIS 13 north and passes through downtown Wisconsin Dells and into Columbia County. WIS 23 East also joins the highways at the same point. WIS 16 turns off from WIS 13 and WIS 23 on the east side of Wisconsin Dells and junctions with WIS 127 southeast of town. WIS 16 follows the Wisconsin River into Portage, meeting the other terminus of WIS 127 at the interchange with I-39. The highway then passes through Portage, crossing WIS 33 and joining US 51 south for . WIS 16 turns east off the US route and crosses WIS 22 in Wyocena and passes through Rio, Doylestown and Fall River. WIS 60 joins WIS 16 and together, they cross US 151, WIS 73 and junction with WIS 89 in Columbus as they enter Dodge County.

This lineup remained together until Carter's death in 2009. In 2004, The Dells were inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. The group performed until illness forced longtime lead singer Marvin Junior and bass vocalist Chuck Barksdale into retirement, ending the group's 60-year run.

Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, home of the largest outdoor waterpark, Noah's Ark, is also home to the Atlantis Resort, which has 2 small indoor waterparks (25,000 square feet). Water park admission is included upon staying at the resort. Along with the two indoor waterparks, aimed at different age groups, there is also an outdoor waterpark.

Jennie Bowman had the house converted to a vacation home for working women upon her death in 1934. The house remained a vacation home until 1977, when the Dells Country Historical Society converted it to a historic house museum. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 3, 1986.

Granite Creek is a tributary of the Verde River in the U.S. state of Arizona. It flows generally north-northeast from the Bradshaw Mountains of west-central Arizona through the city of Prescott and the Granite Dells to meet the river at the north end of the Little Chino Valley east of Sullivan Lake.

No Brand Con is an annual three-day anime convention held during spring at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The convention was founded by members of the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire Anime Appreciation Society. No Brand Con's name was derived from the closing credits theme of the anime Here Is Greenwood.

DUKWs are still in use as tourist transport in harbor and river cities across the globe, and have been associated with a number of fatal accidents. The first "duck tour" company was started in 1946 by Mel Flath in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The company is still in operation under the name Original Wisconsin Ducks.

Dell Rapids is a city in Minnehaha County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 3,633 at the 2010 census. It is known as "The Little City with the Big Attractions." The city took its name from the Dells of the Wisconsin River, which were likened to the local rapids on the Big Sioux River.

Hades is a wooden roller coaster which became notable for its unusually steep drops and angles, and received the inaugural Golden Ticket Award for Best New Ride from Amusement Today magazine.

The Tommy Bartlett Exploratory is an attraction in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin with over 150 interactive science displays. It is the sister attraction to the long-running Tommy Bartlett's Thrill Show. When it opened in 1982, it was called Tommy Bartlett's Robot World & Exploratory, but many of the robot displays have since been eliminated.Dirk Vanderwilt.

Besides conducting hundreds of evangelistic campaigns and preaching in scores of high schools, colleges, Bible institutes and seminaries, Parker taught in Bible colleges and in seminaries, organized an association of Independent Baptist churches in Alabama, served as president of the Minnesota Baptist Convention, and organized the Christian Dells Bible Camp and Conference Grounds near Decatur, Alabama.

The following year, signing with PIR, they released the album, I Salute You. The Dells continued performing and recording sporadically in the early years of the new millennium. In 2004, the group were inducted to both the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group continued performing until 2012.

In addition to offering exhibits that recreate the interior workspace of the studio as it was used by Bennett, the museum gives visitors the opportunity to view Bennett's many stereoscopic images of the Wisconsin Dells in three dimensions using LCD shutter glasses. The site is also home to a replica of Bennett's revolving solar printing house.

The Dells reached the Billboard chart with their version of Johnson's "Give Your Baby a Standing Ovation". Johnson was Davis's accompanist until embarking on a modest solo career in the early 1980s. He recorded for ICA, Phono, and Ichiban Records, but without much commercial success. He was also a co-owner of a steakhouse and nightclub in Chicago.

State Trunk Highway 127 (often called Highway 127, STH 127 or WIS 127) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It runs from Wisconsin Highway 16 near Wisconsin Dells east to Interstate 39 and WIS 16 in Portage; the highway is located entirely within Columbia County. WIS 127 is maintained by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Allen also worked consistently with Detroit producer Don Davis at his United Sound Studios, providing arrangements for acts such as Johnnie Taylor and The Dells. Allen continued to perform with small jazz groups in Detroit until he was in his nineties. He died at Henry Ford Hospital of complications from pneumonia, at the age of 96.

Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort is a large water resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. It is one of the largest indoor waterpark complexes in the world with a combined size of . It is part of a chain of two resorts, the newer and smaller one being Wilderness at the Smokies in Tennessee. The chain also includes four small outdoor waterparks.

Because it straddles multiple counties, Wisconsin Dells is part of several Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs). The Columbia County portion of the city is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the Sauk County portion is part of the Baraboo Micropolitan Statistical Area. The Adams and Juneau county portions are not part of any metropolitan or micropolitan area.

Mirror Lake State Park is a Wisconsin state park in the Wisconsin Dells region. The process of establishing the park began in 1962 and the park officially opened on August 19, 1966. It contains Mirror Lake, a narrow reservoir with steep sandstone sides up to tall. The lake has a surface area of and an average depth of .

Not only is the lake too small and narrow to accommodate speedboats, but the sandstone sides would be easily undercut by wave action. A concessionaire rents several types of watercraft near the boat ramp. There is also a swimming beach with an adjacent picnic ground. The park is a popular kayaking and canoeing destination near the Wisconsin Dells area.

Zeke Carey returned to the Flamingos in 1958, making the group a sextet. (When Johnny Carter was discharged from the service, he joined the Dells, performing with them for almost 50 years until his death in 2009.) Zeke and Jake Carey were not blood-related, but were considered cousins, because of Zeke being adopted by Jake's aunt and uncle.

New members were brought in, making the group Zeke Carey (tenor), Jake Carey (bass), Paul Wilson (baritone), Billy Clarke (tenor), Eddie Williams (tenor), Alan Fontaine (guitar), and Julien Vaught (saxophone). Also Johnny Carter left in 1961 to join the Dells. Clarke and Williams took duties on most new lead vocals. A sixth vocalist, Doug McClure, was added in 1962.

Leaving Cadet around the end of 1974 with the parent company in financial difficulties, the group would continue recording in order under the Mercury, ABC, and Virgin labels finding some hits, including 1980's "I Touched a Dream", which returned the group to the top 40 on the R&B; chart. The Dells were confined mostly to the oldies market afterwards until they were asked to be creative consultants to Robert Townsend's acclaimed 1991 film, The Five Heartbeats, which was loosely based on the lives of The Dells and other groups of its era. The group recorded a composition titled "A Heart Is a House for Love". The song reached number 13 on the Billboard R&B; chart, making them only one of two groups to have hit singles in five decades.

Reedsburg is 12 miles southwest of the Wisconsin Dells along the Baraboo River, with scenic views of the Baraboo Range to the south. Reedsburg is located directly on the 90th meridian west. A pink quartzite marker on Main Street reads 325 feet east of this point lies the 90th meridian. The marker was dedicated on October 14, 1963, to designate Reedsburg's unique location.

William Henry Mylrea (January 1, 1853 - September 11, 1916) was an American lawyer. Born in Rochester, New York, he moved to what is now Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin as a child. After going to Lawrence College, Myrlea was admitted to the Wisconsin bar. He then moved to Wausau, Wisconsin to practice law and to work in the insurance, lumber, real estate business.

They returned and retrieved their vehicle at 3:00 PM, and drove to the KeyLime Cove Resort in Gurnee, where they spent the night. The next morning, the pair drove to Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, and were spotted on security footage in the checkout line at 10:00 AM the next day. Timmothy has not been seen or heard from since.

At the time of its closing, the Wonder Spot was the oldest permitted attraction in the Wisconsin Dells region. Downsview Park is a large urban park operated by the Government of Canada. Several municipal parks are situated in Downsview, including Chalkfarm Park, Downsview Dells Park, Oakdale Village Park, and Roding Park. Roding Park is an park near Wilson Avenue and Keele Street. Recreational facilities in the park include a baseball diamond, two tennis courts, four bocce courts and a children's playground.

'Hill-Rolling' or 'Globe riding' are generic names for this activity which is practised in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Sweden, Estonia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Poland, the Slovak Republic, Switzerland, Japan, Kochi in India, Phuket in Thailand, and Slovenia. In the United States, there are facilities in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, Amesbury, Massachusetts, and Roundtop Mountain Resort, Lewisberry and Pennsylvania.

It was also America's largest indoor water park until the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky finished its indoor water park expansion in December 2007. The Wisconsin Dells resort's Indoor Waterpark is home to the first indoor uphill water coaster and first indoor FlowRider surfing simulator. In 2011, the indoor waterpark went through an expansion, which included America's first indoor "SuperLOOP" slides.Selwyn, Adam.

Otoancorin is a protein found in the vertebrate inner ear, on the sensory epithelia where it connects to the gel matrix. Otoancorin is found in the cochlea, utricule, saccule, and under the cupulae on the surface of apical dells in the sensory epithelia. In humans the gene that encodes otoancorin is called OTOA. It is on chromosome 16p12.2 and contains 28 exons.

The Dells included the song on their 1968 hit album There Is; their version, recorded in 1967, is reputed to have been the original version, and was recorded with slightly different lyrics than the better-known Jackie Wilson hit version, but was not released as a single. In a recorded interview with famed Cleveland/New York Dee-Jay Norm N. Nite, Jackie stated that when he first heard a tape of the song, "a vocal group was singing it". That group was quite probably The Dells. In 1970, the song was recorded under the title "Higher and Higher" by Canada Goose, a group from Ottawa who had been discovered by Jerry Ragovoy. This version, with a shared lead vocal by Barbra Bullard and John Matthews, became a hit in Canada (#44) and reached #92 on the Record World 100 Pop Chart.

Baraboo–Wisconsin Dells Airport is a public use airport located three nautical miles (6 km) northwest of the central business district of Baraboo, in Sauk County, Wisconsin, United States. The airport is located between Baraboo and Lake Delton, Wisconsin on US 12 and it is adjacent to the Ho-Chunk Casino. It is included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2019–2023, in which it is categorized as a regional general aviation facility. Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, this airport is assigned DLL by the FAA but has no designation from the IATAGreat Circle Mapper: KDLL – Baraboo Wisconsin Dells Airport – Baraboo, Wisconsin (which assigned DLL to Dillon County Airport in Dillon, South CarolinaGreat Circle Mapper: DLL / KDLC – Dillon County Airport – Dillon, South Carolina).

However, the Natural England (NE) citation gives the area as 0.3 hectares and the NE map shows a larger area of 1.2 hectares. There is access to the site from Bullbeggars Lane. The surrounding area is wooded and covered in deep pits called locally 'dells. These are the remains of working to extract the gravel during World War One to make sandbags of use at the front.

Harvey Scales (September 27, 1940 – February 11, 2019)"Harvey Scales", RYM Artists. was an American R&B; and soul singer, songwriter, and producer. Scales had been active in the music industry since the 1960s, and composed songs for groups such as The Dells, The Dramatics, and The O'Jays. He is particularly notable for his co-authorship of the songs "Love-Itis" and "Disco Lady".

In southern Wisconsin it encounters the terminal moraine formed during the last ice age, where it forms the Dells of the Wisconsin River. North of Madison at Portage, the river turns to the west, flowing through Wisconsin's hilly Western Upland and joining the Mississippi approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Prairie du Chien. The highest waterfall on the river is Grandfather Falls in Lincoln County.

WIS 213 was designated in 1961 for a segment formerly a part of WIS 13 south of Evansville when WIS 13 was truncated to end in the Wisconsin Dells area. Later in 1961, WIS 213 was extended southerly from its terminus at WIS 81 to end at WIS 15\. In 1988, Interstate 43 (I-43) replaced WIS 15, and WIS 213 was extended to the state line.

L.V. Johnson (December 25, 1946 - November 22, 1994) was an American Chicago blues and soul-blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is best known for his renditions of "Don't Cha Mess with My Money, My Honey or My Woman" and "Recipe". He worked with the Soul Children, the Bar-Keys and Johnnie Taylor. Songs he wrote were recorded by Tyrone Davis, Bobby Bland and the Dells.

The Dells were carved by the torrent when Glacial Lake Wisconsin drained. This lake during the last glacier was probably not the only Glacial Lake Wisconsin. The Wisconsin river travels from nearly the Upper Peninsula over a 300 miles until it meets the Mississippi at Prairie du Chien. Earlier glaciers probably blocked the Wisconsin River, producing earlier glacial lakes in central Wisconsin like Lake DuBay.

He confides that he wants to rule the Dells with Fire as his partner and equal. She refuses and escapes, only to find Archer's body. In rage she burns down Leck's estate, killing his mind slaves in the process.

Flannery grew up in Crandon, Wisconsin, the home of Crandon International Off-Road Raceway. His parents, Melvin and Dorothy, owned Flannery Trucking in Crandon, Wisconsin; he later ran the trucking and concrete company along with his brother Cliff. He moved to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin late in his racing career to construct a new home and race facility. Flannery married Connie Fraley Flannery on July 17, 1971.

As it expanded, the park-like atmosphere was maintained. The rises were terraced with the dells between them kept flat.

In 2014, Cruz released her second album Granada, again collaborating with Fernandez Miró. It reflects Cruz's practice of singing in multiple languages: French, German, English, and four Iberian languages. Included on the album is the song "El Cant Dells Ocells," a Catalan folk song previously made famous by Pablo Casals. In 2005, Sullivan met her husband, Sam Alvey, a mixed martial artist, at the Bristol Renaissance Faire where he was working. On August 7, 2011, after 4 years of dating, Alvey proposed to Sullivan. They married January 19, 2013 at the Wilderness Hotel in Wisconsin Dells. The couple has a daughter, Reagan Quincy, born in July 2013, and a son, Ival, born in October 2014.

The signal is beamed directly north so as not to interfere with Mayville-licensed TBN station WWRS (channel 52), which transmits on digital channel 43. W43BR has limited Spectrum cable coverage in the Baraboo/Wisconsin Dells area, along with surrounding portions of Columbia, Sauk, Adams, Juneau and western portions of Dane counties on channel 10. It is not carried in the city of Madison.

It also has an area where people ride their bicycles, this is locally known as 'The Dells'. The wood hit the news in September 2006, as it was briefly closed off, due to a suspicious find relating to the transatlantic aircraft terrorist plot.Bucks Free Press House prices are relatively high in Flackwell Heath due to its closeness both to London and pleasant rural areas.

The group, originally named the Val- Aires, formed in 1958 at Turtle Creek High School. They signed with Pittsburgh manager Elmer Willet, who produced their first recording release "Which One Will It Be/Launie My Love". DJ Porky Chedwick became a supporter booking the group for his rock and roll shows and record hops. Chedwick put them on bills with the Drifters, the Platters, and the Dells.

In 1893, Rhea moved to Thorp, Wisconsin, where he served as principal and later was elected Clark County, Wisconsin Superintendent of Schools. He also owned a farm and was involved with the Gilman Manufacturing Company in Gilman, Wisconsin, Taylor County, Wisconsin. In 1913, Rhea served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and was a Republican. He died at his daughter's house in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin in 1937.

The first such laminations were found in a rock called "The Dells." Geologists would say that the cross-stratification showed festoon geometry from transport in subaqueous ripples. A picture of cross- stratification, also called cross-bedding, is shown on the left. Box-shaped holes in some rocks were caused by sulfates forming large crystals, and then when the crystals later dissolved, holes, called vugs, were left behind.

Sheridan is located at (41.5236847, -88.6850380). According to the 2010 census, Sheridan has a total area of , of which (or 98.17%) is land and (or 1.83%) is water. The village lies at a bend in the Fox River where Somonauk Creek enters the river, and the Lower Fox River Dells start. It is used as both a launching and retrieval point for canoes going down the river.

Redding had died in a plane crash in December of the previous year just days after recording the track, and the song, which also topped the all-genre Hot 100 chart, was the first posthumous number one in the history of that listing. "Tighten Up" by Archie Bell & the Drells, "Grazing in the Grass" by Hugh Masekela and Gaye's version of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" also topped both charts in 1968. Redding, Bell & the Drells and Masekela all topped the R&B; chart in 1968 for the first time, as did Tammi Terell, the Intruders, the Dells and Johnnie Taylor. The Dells have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in recognition of their long and successful career, and the Intruders are considered to have been an early influence on the Philadelphia soul sound, which grew in prominence in the 1970s.

Isgro then developed Los Angeles Recording Company (LARC), distributed through MCA Records. LARC signed acts The Chi-Lites, The Dells, The Staple Singers and Bonnie Pointer. Soon after the formation of LARC Records, Isgro established a second label, Private I Records, distributed through Columbia Records. The first release of Private I Records was Matthew Wilder’s "Break My Stride", which peaked at number one on the US chart position.

The group temporarily disbanded and Barksdale sang as a member of Harvey Fuqua's spinoff Moonglows act, Harvey and the Moonglows, which included a young Marvin Gaye. In 1961, the Dells reunited and auditioned for Dinah Washington. After Washington agreed to hire them, Johnny Funches left the group to take care of his family. Funches was replaced by Flamingos founding member Johnny Carter and sang background for Washington for two years.

Lyndon Station is served by two religious institutions. St. Bridget's was established in 1851 by early Irish settlers in the area. The name was changed to St. Mary's in 1877, and the present edifice was built in 1899. It is one of the oldest parishes in the Diocese of La Crosse and because of this it is historically referred to as the Mother Church of the Dells Area.

Upon his return in 1972 he moved to Los Angeles to reunite with The Dells. Williams also worked with The Temptations at that point. He thereafter established, with bassist James Jamerson, Jr., the R&B; group Chanson. Chanson went on to release the 1978 single "Don't Hold Back" which rose to No. 21, #11 and No. 8 on the Hot 100, Dance Club and Hot R&B; Songs charts respectively.

After graduating high school in 1996, Sauter began competing in various amateur series throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest. By the end of 1997, Sauter had collected three wins in the Sportsman Division at Dells Raceway Park and a win in the Late Model Division at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Sauter then joined the American Speed Association Series in 1998. By 2001, he was the ASA Series Champion.

The H. H. Bennett Studio is a historic photographic studio and photography museum located in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, United States. The studio building was built in 1875 by noted landscape photographer H. H. Bennett. It was operated by his family until 1998, when the studio was donated to the Wisconsin Historical Society. Today the studio, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, serves as a historical museum.

This is the structure that still stands in Wisconsin Dells today. In addition to operating as a typical photographic studio, Bennett's studio functioned as a gift shop and information center for the surrounding area, selling souvenirs and crafts to visitors. Bennett's darkroom At the studio, Bennett devised a number of new technologies to advance his photography. Among the most notable of his creations was his revolving solar printing house.

A large boulder just below the Nekoosa dam was obviously there in ancient times. Large Lake Petenwell above Necedah and Roche a Cri is now used to help control floods. Then after the Wisconsin Dells rock formations, 75 foot limestone bluffs carved by water exist as the Wisconsin merges with the Mississippi. North East of Stevens Point, Sunset Lake, Three Lakes and numerous other unnamed glacial pot-like lakes exist.

A nonprofit group was created in the town in order to raise funds for the current station building. Although there is an employee that opens and closes the station around train times, there is no full station master selling tickets or handling baggage at this station. Persons wishing to board the train in Wisconsin Dells who do not yet have tickets may purchase them from the conductor upon boarding.

In February 2009, it was announced that the lake was expected to be refilled by Memorial Day weekend. Costs to the State of Wisconsin were said to be $3.6 million and $2.5 million was spent by the village of Lake Delton. On June 9, 2009, Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle was in Wisconsin Dells to help celebrate the reopening of Lake Delton. "Lake Delton back in business a year after going dry".

The soils of the ditches, dells and lowlands in the southwest are filled with groundwater close to the surface. These gley soils are natural locations for grasslands. Peaks and ridges are rising from the lowlands consisting of dune sands und meltwater sands, which are sediments and sedimentary rock of the quaternary. These sands have decomposed to nutrient-poor, acidic heather soils (Podsols), partly with hardpan in the subsoil.

US 12 near Rocky Arbor State Park US 12 and WIS 16 pass through Camp Douglas and cross WIS 80 in New Lisbon. The highways then junction with WIS 58 and WIS 82 in Mauston as they continue southeast. The routes trek eastward and pass through Lyndon Station, where Rocky Arbor State Park is located. The highways turn southeast again and cross the Interstates into Sauk County and Wisconsin Dells.

It was built in 1994 in an effort to make the Dells a year-round tourist destination, rather than just a summer one. Since then, the Great Wolf Lodge brand has expanded, with multiple locations in the U.S. and a single venue in Canada, at Niagara Falls. The DreamWorks Water Park, originally slated to open in late 2019, will be the United States' largest water park upon opening.

Bartlett also continued his career in broadcasting while both his ski show and Wisconsin Dells ventures were ongoing. He was an announcer at the Calgary Stampede from 1966 to 1992, as well as at the 1988 Winter Olympics. Bartlett's widespread ventures in the entertainment industry led him to become very wealthy. In 1997, Bartlett purchased one of three spare core modules for the space station Mir from a Moscow museum.

Darnell in victory lane at Dells Raceway Park in 2016 Darnell didn't race in NASCAR during 2013. He won the Dick Trickle 99 Super Late Model Oktoberfest race at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in October 2013. He has made occasional starts in various Midwest series since. Darnell led much of the second half of the 2019 Oktoberfest ARCA Midwest Tour race at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway before finishing third behind Ty Majeski.

Ingram inherited his father's concerns in the lumber industry. He served as the Chairman of Investment Securities and Ingram Products Company. He served on the Board of Directors of the Union National Bank of Eau Claire, of which his father had served as President. Additionally, he was a co-founder of the New Dells Lumber Company with Pearl Chambers, J. E. Hosford, and Judge James Wickham, and served as its President.

About twenty-five families lived in Kennedy during the 1920s, and thirty students attended the school. In the mid-1920s, the Dells Company moved its headquarters 2.5 miles farther away from Kennedy, to a community named Delco. Delco was located in a clearing in the woods. A post office was established there for the mill workers, loggers and trainmen who ate and slept at the boarding house there.

The Three Fires Council owns and operates Camp Freeland Leslie (CFL) near Oxford, Wisconsin, approximately 25 miles northeast of the Wisconsin Dells. The camp offers over 500 acres of natural settings: oak forests, prairies, swamp, streams, abundant wildlife and a lake entirely on the property. The camp was purchased by the former DuPage Area Council in 1970. Camp Freeland Leslie was first used as a summer camp in 1972.

Brown County collected a 0.5% tax for all purchases which funded the remaining cost of a $295 million renovation of Lambeau Field, as well as a payment to the Green Bay Packers to cover part of the cost of operating and maintaining the stadium through the year 2031. The tax ended as of 30 September 2015 but since 1 January 2018, a new 0.5% county sales tax is collected for county projects in the city of Green Bay. The municipalities of Lake Delton, Wisconsin Dells, Bayfield, Stockholm (passed by legislature in 2013), Eagle River, and Rhinelander (as of 2017) have also been authorized to adopt an additional "Premier Resort Area Tax", due to their status as popular tourist destinations. Lake Delton and Wisconsin Dells impose, as of 2014, a 1.25% sales tax (for a combined rate of 6.75%) while Bayfield, Stockholm, Eagle River, and Rhinelander (as of 2017) impose an additional 0.5% for a combined rate of 6.0%.

The Riverside and Great Northern Railway (R&GN;) is a gauge miniature railway and heritage railroad in Wisconsin Dells. The railway is operated by the Riverside and Great Northern Preservation Society and includes the former shops of the Sandley Light Railway Equipment Works, a miniature train manufacturing business of the father and son team Elmer and Norman Sandley.

Saunders was born in Philadelphia and sang in church from early age. He developed his style after David Ruffin of The Temptations and Marvin Junior of The Dells and, encouraged by family and friends, pursued a career in music. He formed his first group as a teenager which eventually merged into a neighborhood act called New Day. During a live performance, he was noticed by the Philadelphia singer, songwriter and producer Harold Melvin.

Salt Lake Temple Garden Room This room has murals "showing landscape of rare beauty." The murals depict scenes such as "sylvan grottos and mossy dells, lakelets and brooks, waterfalls and rivulets, trees, vines and flowers, insects, birds and beasts, in short, the earth beautiful, as it was before the Fall of Adam and Eve. It may be called the Garden of Eden Room." It has an altar and theater seating (Talmage, 204–205).

When miniature golf retains many of these characteristics but without the use of any props or obstacles, it is purely a mini version of its parent game. The encounters have names such as "Border Patrol" (encounter 1) and "Hill Giants" (encounter 10). After the wilderness are two lettered encounters: the "Gnome Vale", which includes a map for their lair, and "The Craggy Dells", where humans and orcs are capturing hippogriffs to sell. Next, the player characters reach the caverns. They consist of the "Lesser Caverns" with 22 encounters, and the "Greater Caverns" with 20 encounters, each with its own map.

Madison Newspapers and Lee Enterprises acquired Independent Media Group, Inc.'s newspapers in Nebraska and Wisconsin on July 1, 2000. Of the purchased newspapers, Lee Enterprises purchased 18 in both states and Madison Newspapers acquired 11 in Wisconsin. The newspapers purchased the Portage Daily Register, the Baraboo News Republic, the Shawano Leader, Reedsburg Times Press, the Juneau County Star-Times, the Wisconsin Dells Events, the Sauk Prairie Eagle, the Shopper Stopper, and the Wisconsin Reminder.

The Bulls then outscored their opponents 24–4 over the next four games. They defeated the Flint Jr. Generals 3–0 to win their second straight Silver Cup. North Iowa advanced to the Tier III national tournament in Simsbury, Connecticut, again going 3-0 in round-robin play against the Florida Jr. Blades, Dells Ducks, and Boston Bandits. The Bulls would then defeat the Northern Cyclones 5–1 in the semifinal game.

The track, which opened in 1958, sits on of land. The track closed during the middle of the 2006 season over a bank fraud case, but the track was purchased during the following off-season by a group of three investors that included NASCAR driver and Dells area native Frank Kreyer. It reopened in 2007. Howard Johnson, one of the original track owners, like to call the track "Home of the Biggies".

During they ask for Fire to be given to them, and after the demand is refused, Nash is shot. He lives, and Brigan's army conquers, returning the Dells to relative peace. Fire returns to King's City hailed as a hero, much to her embarrassment. A ceremony to mourn Archer is held at Brocker's estate, and many return there to grieve his passing including Clara and Mila with their newborn babies, Aran and Liv, respectively.

Prior to the 2008 washout, the lake had poor water quality, which is common to impoundments in southwest Wisconsin. Some of the water quality problems may have been due to construction site erosion, as well as rural nonpoint source pollution. The lake also had nuisance aquatic weed growth that has required chemical treatment. City of Wisconsin Dells Comprehensive Plan The fishery of the Lake Delton was northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass, channel catfish and panfish.

The edifice is built around a central courtyard, which contains one of the palace's two fountains. The court fountain depicts the Virgin Mary; this is not contemporary with the building, Pulvers, p. 705 and it was probably replacing an existing fountain during the Galitzin era of the later 19th century. The second fountain is on the external corner of the palace which tapers to the confluence of via dells Scrofa and piazza Nicosia.

Kidney Wood is ancient semi-natural woodland on the southern edge of Luton that has been identified as a County Wildlife Site. The wood was purchased by Luton Borough Council as an area of public open space. The council seeks to maintain and enhance the nature conservation interest of Kidney Wood, including its habitats while allowing public access for informal recreation including play. Kidney Wood includes a way marked nature trail and play dells.

His training as a carpenter served him well. Bennett made all of his own equipment except for the glass lenses in his cameras. He built himself a portable darkroom, and then towed it, his camera, and other necessary equipment with him across the local countryside taking pictures. He didn't have to go far to find impressive scenery, for the Wisconsin River Dells, a gorge with numerous sandstone formations, was just outside Kilbourn City.

The 1971 version of Rabbit's Moon features a soundtrack consisting of 1950s and '60s pop: "There's a Moon Out Tonight" by The Capris, "Oh, What a Night" by The Dells, "Bye Bye Baby" by Mary Wells, "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingos and "Tears On My Pillow" by The El Dorados. The 1979 version features only a loop of A Raincoat's "It Came In The Night" as its soundtrack.

In 1986 he won the points championship at Capital Speedway. He had 17 feature wins that season, and he ran well at Slinger, WIR, and Wisconsin Dells. In 1987, he raced at numerous Wisconsin tracks. He won a $15,000-to-win event at Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1987. Butch Miller, who had led most of the race, went in for a pit stop with 60 laps left and Bickle and Ted Musgrave gained the lead.

Another label active in Chicago in the mid-to-late 1970s was Chi-Sound Records, under the production aegis of Carl Davis. Chi-Sound, besides recording the Chi-Lites, Dells, and Gene Chandler, had a number of disco-soul acts between 1976 and 1982, including Windy City Orchestra, Ebony Rhythm Funk Campaign, Magnum Force, Sidney Joe Qualls (previously signed to the Brunswick Records subsidiary, Dakar, in the early 1970s), Manchild and the Chi-Sound Orchestra.

Accommodations range from economical motels to RV parks to chain hotels to themed resorts featuring indoor and outdoor waterparks and other amenities. Amphibious DUKW vehicles called "ducks" began offering duck tours to tourists in Wisconsin Dells in 1946. The tours visit wilderness trails, and enter nearby Lake Delton and the Wisconsin River. One company, Original Wisconsin Ducks, has more than 90 vehicles and is the largest operator of duck tours in the United States.

Chuck Barksdale also left to rejoin the revived Dells. In late 1960, Gaye, Chester Simmons and Fuqua recorded (along with, presumably, members of the Spinners) the last New Moonglows recordings, including "Junior" and "Beatnik". Afterwards, Gaye relocated to Detroit and later signed with Tamla, a subsidiary of Motown Records. In February 1961, Fuqua left Chess and worked on his own Detroit labels, Harvey and Tri-Phi, until he joined Motown's production team.

When the band saw the film they were convinced that it would become a box office bomb, which it eventually was. They therefore released the film's soundtrack before the film's premiere. The LP was produced by White and Charles Stepney and recorded at the Caribou Ranch Studio. Stepney had previously worked with artists such as the Dells, Terry Callier and Minnie Riperton and the collective group the Rotary Connection, of which Riperton was a member.

"Martian Hop" is a song written by The Ran-Dells which was released in 1963. It has been described as a one-hit wonder novelty song and it reached #27 on the black singles chart and #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was later covered by artists as diverse as Rocky Sharpe and the Replays, Joanie Bartels and soul group The Newcomers; it was recorded in French by comedian and singer Henri Salvador.

OHS has two competitive show choirs, the higher-level Hilltoppers and lower-level Express. The Hilltoppers have been a top show choir for three decades, winning a competition in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin in 1984. They continue to be a force to be reckoned with, scoring two wins in the 2018 competition season. The school also hosts its own competition, which is noted for being one of the toughest in the Midwest and attracts schools from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.

His later records were unsuccessful, but Leavill continued to work with, and write songs for, such artists as Major Lance, Tyrone Davis, and Gene Chandler on labels including Brunswick and Chi- Sound. He also coached football at Hyde Park High for several years, and worked as a policeman. In 1999 he toured Europe with The Dells, and in 2000 he formed the OK Records label. He died in Chicago of a heart attack in 2002, aged 65.

When the Strasburgs took over Mid American in 2006, the series was struggling with car counts and tracks willing to host races. The average car count average jumped from 20 entrants per race to 27. A season high 39 participants ran at the Milwaukee Mile during the Governor's Cup Weekend. Several tracks have renewed relationships with the Mid-American Stock Car Series such as the Golden Sands Speedway, Marshfield Super Speedway, Dells Raceway Park and Road America.

The Bowman House is a historic house located at 714 Broadway Street in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The Prairie School house was built in 1904 for Abram and Alberta Bowman. The house has a Prairie School design, popular at the time due to Frank Lloyd Wright's influence; its distinctive Prairie School elements include a horizontal emphasis and a low roof with wide eaves. Abram Bowman died in 1907, and his daughters Emma and Jennie Bowman inherited the house.

On June 7, at least six confirmed tornadoes touched down in multiple counties, as an effect of the strong winds of the daily storms. Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle declared a state of emergency in thirty counties on June 9 due to the flooding. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) inspectors are due to examine areas that suffered the most damage. Continued heavy rains in the Wisconsin Dells led to the Dell creek bypassing the dam holding Lake Delton.

Newport was chosen as the site of the first dam across the Wisconsin River, and Bowman was one of the incorporators of the project. He worked with Joseph Bailey, who would later become famous in the American Civil War for his bridge across the Red River. Despite his efforts, Newport lost out on a railroad bridge to neighboring Kilbourn City. Bowman moved to Kilbourn City (now Wisconsin Dells) in 1862 and resided there for the rest of his life.

H.H. Bennett's photo of Stand Rock The cultural history of the area stretches back several thousand years, from early Paleo- Indian people to the more recent Native American peoples, such as Ho-Chunk, Sac, and Menominee, who left behind effigy and burial mounds, camps and village sites, garden beds, and rock art. The Dells were made famous in 1886 by the photographer H. H. Bennett, who took the first stop-action photo of his son jumping onto Stand Rock.

Minor repairs were expected to continue after that time, but the lake is now completely refilled and has been usable since Memorial Day weekend of 2009. The lake was formed in 1927 to attract tourists to the area and became a popular attraction in the Wisconsin Dells tourist area following the economic recovery after the Great Depression. Resorts and tourist attractions line its banks. The lake was the site of Tommy Bartlett's Thrill Show, which featured acrobatic water skiing.

In 1995, the Wilderness Hotel and Golf Resort opened for business along U.S. Highway 12 (Wisconsin Dells Parkway) with a water park named Fort Wilderness. In 1999, the hotel added its second indoor waterpark, Klondike Kavern, and an additional sixty guest rooms. In 2002, the resort opened the Wild West region of the hotel which has 162 guest rooms. It also includes Dodge ‘Em City, a indoor play park featuring Timberland Playhouse and Lake Wilderness outdoor waterpark.

Following the show's huge success in the city, its owner, Tommy Bartlett, chose to keep the performance permanently in Wisconsin Dells. To promote the show, Bartlett gave away bumper stickers advertising his thrill show and the city, effectively spreading word about the area across the nation. Soon more attractions followed to serve the ever-increasing tourists, along with many hotels, shops, and restaurants. Today, a large number of water parks are central to the local economy.

In 1959, Lester began a solo career. That same year, Harvey Fuqua, following the advice of another Chess artist, Bo Diddley, worked with the Marquees, where Fuqua first met Marvin Gaye. Relocating the group from their hometown of Washington, D.C., to Chicago, Fuqua soon brought Chuck Barksdale into the group after Barksdale's group, the Dells, was temporarily on a break following a car crash involving one of its members. Fuqua renamed the group Harvey and the New Moonglows.

In March 2005, the online audio stream of WDLS-AM, as powered by Warp Radio, went live on its website to further increase its potential audience across the Internet. Within weeks of its launch, its audio stream became the #1 online streaming radio station for its genre, attracting listeners (and subsequent e-mail inquiries about the Wisconsin Dells area) from around the world. In December 2006, hosting for the online stream was moved to Surfer Network.

Randy "Xeno" Hogan was hired as lead vocalist and Rick Szeluga as bassist. Carlos had originally suggested Robin Zander as lead singer, but Zander had a contract that required him to perform as a pop-folk singer in the duo Zander & Kent for three years at the Picadilly Pub in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Zander suggested the band hire Hogan instead. The band continued to use the name Sick Man of Europe, but nightclub owners didn't like the name.

Lowe crafted beadwork by a kerosene lamp in the evening as a young man. These Lowe family crafts were produced to sell in the tourist trade. They delivered the items by station wagon to the Wisconsin Dells, providing an offset from the seasonal farming positions the family participated in. During the summer, when the family was involved in seasonal work, they sold their crafts from a portable roadside stand which they brought with them on their travels.

The legislature of Wisconsin Territory made the current spelling official in 1845. The Algonquian word for Wisconsin and its original meaning have both grown obscure. While interpretations vary, most implicate the river and the red sandstone that lines its banks. One leading theory holds that the name originated from the Miami word Meskonsing, meaning "it lies red", a reference to the setting of the Wisconsin River as it flows through the reddish sandstone of the Wisconsin Dells.

In season 4, he finally finds the courage to propose to Platt but it goes down the drain and they have to part ways after he is called to an emergency. Platt eventually proposes to spare him the embarrassment and they agree to get married. They marry in an intimate ceremony at Molly's, in the presence of Mouch's co-workers from 51 and Platt's co-workers from the 21st District. They went to the Wisconsin Dells for their honeymoon.

A summer-league baseball team called thee DBs (for Diamondbacks) is in the league semifinals. Maz, one of their players, decides to play despite the disappointment of finding out minutes earlier he was not drafted. The opposing team the Bulldogs has ringers so the DBs will have to play extra hard to win. The DBs manage to keep the Bulldogs from scoring until the final inning, when pitcher Dells loses his confidence and gives up several runs.

George Sigerson wrote lyrics arranged by T. R. G. Jozé. These words were made popular in the early 20th century by the Glasgow Orpheus Choir under Sir Hugh S. Roberton. :As chimes that flow o'er shining seas :When morn alights on meads of May, :Faint voices fill the western breeze, :With whisp'ring song from far away. :O dear the dells of Dunavore :A home in od'rous Ossory, :But sweet as honey running o'er, :The golden shore of Far Away.

Kirshner had three record labels. The first was Chairman Records, a subsidiary of London Records. Although he was responsible for scores of hits in the 1960s, he was only to have one on the Chairman label – 1963's "Martian Hop" by The Ran-Dells – which reached number 16 nationally. Kirshner later had two other record labels: Calendar Records, which had early hits by the Archies, and later morphed into the Kirshner label, which had later hits by the Archies and Kansas.

The railway was started in Janesville, Wisconsin,"Riverside & Great Northern Railroad", IBLS.org as a demonstration railway for Sandley locomotives and rolling stock. In 1952 the Sandleys relocated to the former right-of-way of the La Crosse and Milwaukee Railroad near Wisconsin Dells, which was abandoned in favor of a route with a smoother grade 500 feet (152 m) to the south. The Sandleys built their shops, a replica and C&NW; depot (scaled down), and a railway to demonstrate their products.

Records. The label's roster included Bobby Rush, The Dells, Luther Ingram, Tommy Tate, and Jerry Butler. The label was later folded into the Malaco Music Group, with whom Whitsett became associated in 1998. In addition to his work with Malaco Records, Whitsett authored three music- publishing textbooks and a dictionary of music business terms, while actively maintaining his consulting services for music publishers and copyright investors. In 2008, Whitsett's Big Mistakes: The Memoirs of Tyrone Hatchback, a novel, was published.

Chula Vista has been in existence since the late 19th century, when there was only one vacation home on the Wisconsin River. In the 1920s, the Berry Family purchased the home and built Berry's Coldwater Canyon Hotel and Berry's Dells Golf Course. Joe and Vera Kaminski became innkeepers at the hotel in 1952, and later purchased the entire complex from the Berry Family. Chula Vista is currently run by Tim and Mike Kaminski, who are the grandsons of Joe and Vera.

As it enters the city of Prescott, Granite Creek passes under Route 89 and receives Aspen Creek from the left. Miller Creek enters from the left near north side of Prescott, as Granite Creek flows to the northeast, passing through the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Reservation and under Arizona State Route 89 again. Slaughterhouse Gulch enters from the right as the stream continues northeast to Watson Lake. Downstream of the lake, Granite Creek passes through Granite Dells and under Arizona State Route 89A.

The Xanadu Houses were notable for being built with polyurethane insulation foam rather than concrete, for easy, fast, and cost-effective construction. They were ergonomically designed, and contained some of the earliest home automation systems. The Kissimmee Xanadu, designed by Roy Mason, was the most popular, and at its peak was attracting 1000 visitors every day. The Wisconsin Dells and Gatlinburg houses were closed and demolished in the early 1990s; the Kissimmee Xanadu House was closed in 1996 and demolished in October 2005.

The new slate of correspondents continued to win individual Emmys as did the show itself. As the program entered its second decade, Wild Chicago-style shows were produced making visits to out-of-town locales that included Tokyo, The Indy 500, The Kentucky Derby, Atlanta, Hong Kong, Branson, Las Vegas, and The Wisconsin Dells. Clinger hosted most of the "road trip" versions of the show. In 2001 Clinger also emceed the "12 on 11," Wild Chicago anniversary special (another Emmy winner).

On the south-western slope of the Teutoburg Forest, for example near Künsebeck, they occupy large areas. As a consequence of historic tillage techniques and long-term agricultural usage these soils are partly composed of deeply rooting humus, in scattered areas with a sod coat. Some isolated dells are located in south-westerly direction of the main ridge of the Teutoburg Forest, for example the Hesseln mountains. Slim clay-loam soils (Rendzina) have developed here from limestone and marlstone of the Cretaceous.

H. H. Bennett was born in Farnham, Lower Canada, but was raised in Brattleboro, Vermont. In 1857, at the age of 14, Bennett moved with his father and uncle to Wisconsin. The group settled in Kilbourn City, today known as Wisconsin Dells, and Henry worked as a carpenter in the town. After the outbreak of the American Civil War, Bennett joined the army and fought in the Battle of Vicksburg before being severely wounded by the accidental discharge of his own gun.

The object is now the centerpiece of the Tommy Bartlett Exploratory in Wisconsin Dells. It was used as a backdrop by CNN while the network reported on Mir's re-entry to the atmosphere in 2001. Bartlett was inducted into the Water Ski Hall of Fame in 1993 for his contributions to promoting the sport, despite having only water skied once in his life, on his seventieth birthday in 1984. He was elected to the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.

Olson ran unsuccessfully as the Republican nominee for governor of Wisconsin in 1970. Nixon appointed him to the Air Quality Advisory Board; Gerald Ford later appointed him United States Ambassador to the Bahamas (1976–1977) and to the Citizens' Committee on Environmental Quality and the Committee for Economic Co-operation and Development. Olson won Western Michigan University's Distinguished Alumni Award in 1966. He died at age 82 on July 3, 2003 at his home in Wisconsin Dells following a long illness.

He held this position for thirteen years. In 1975, BJU conferred on him an honorary Doctor of Laws."Camp Director Named Alumnus of the Year," Backbone [BJU Preacher's Class] (May 1981), 2. In 1969, after directing Christian Dells Bible Camp (founded by Monroe Parker), near Trinity, Alabama, Hay founded The Wilds, a year-round , non- denominational camp and conference center in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Rosman, North Carolina with the assistance of Walter Fremont, Joseph Henson, and Carl Blythe.

Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park is a theme park and water park resort complex in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The resort is themed after Ancient Greece, particularly its mythology and gods, and is named after the mountain in Greece where those gods were said to live. Mt. Olympus features an indoor and outdoor water park and amusement park rides, and the complex includes dozens of motel buildings that were acquired by the resort in addition to its purpose-built hotel.

Mt. Olympus was started by the Laskaris family. Demetrios “Jim” Laskaris was born in Katsaros, Greece and immigrated to the United States at the age of 13. He received a technical degree in Michigan, served for four years in the U.S. Navy, and then owned and operated several restaurants in Chicago. The family moved to Wisconsin Dells, where Jim and his wife Fotoula opened a hot dog stand in 1970, which they named “Big Chief”, after a statue purchased from a trade show.

Due to popular demand, Black regularly performed the song in her live concert tours of the 1960s and 1970s. Irish singer Jackie Lee recorded a version for her 1968 album White Horses, produced by Derek Lawrence for Philips Records. A recording by the Dells of the song in a medley with "Love is Blue" reached number 22 in the US pop charts in 1969. In 2004 Delta Goodrem sang the song in a TV advertisement for Tourism Australia that aired in many countries.

Student Council was a student government that organized extracurricular programs as well as running fundraisers to help with the school's annual trip to Wisconsin Dells for its Jr/Sr Prom. Hands and Feet for Christ (HFC) was a group dedicated to community service. Illinois YMCA Youth and Government allowed students to travel to the Illinois State Capitol where students acted as delegates to pass mock legislation. A chapter of the National FFA Organization was started on the campus in 2015.

Novi Svet ranges across elevations between southwest of the road from Kalce to Hotedršica, extending to the northeast slope of the Hrušica Plateau. It includes the hamlets of Gorenji Novi Svet (, ) to the northwest and Dolenji Novi Svet () to the southeast, as well as the isolated Vrbanček farm. The area is mostly covered by needleleaf forest with many karst dells, sinkholes, and caves. The village has little arable land and sparse meadows, and so its residents have traditionally made a living from forestry.

Wah- Du-Sheh (Bundle) (1997) at the National Museum of the American Indian Graduating from New Lisbon High School in the early 1960s, Lowe applied and was accepted by the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. After switching majors, he settled on art education, and studied all aspects of fine art media. Midway through college, he left in 1964 to work in a factory assembly line. In 1966 he married Nancy Knabe, whom he had met when working in the Dells.

The Walter brewing operation was originally established in Eau Claire in 1878 as the Henry Sommermeyer & Co. Dells Brewery, at the corner of Hobart and Elm Streets. It was acquired by Johannes (John) Walter, a German immigrant from the Wuerttemberg area, in 1890.Dale P. Van Wieren, American Breweries II (West Point, PA: Eastern Coast Breweriana Association, 1995) 394. The firm survived most of Prohibition by manufacturing wort (fermenting malt), closing in 1931 before reopening two years later upon repeal.

The Dells' original recording on the Vee Jay label peaked at number four on the R&B; singles chart. In 1969, they refashioned it as a soul song on the Cadet label. The new "Oh, What a Night" was notably different from its original counterpart with an altered arrangement and tempo, and included a spoken recitation, in the introduction, from bass singer Chuck Barksdale. This new version reached number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and number one on the Best Selling Soul singles chart.

The Dells were an American R&B; vocal group, vocal quintets. Formed in high school in 1953 by founding members Marvin Junior, Verne Allison, Johnny Funches, Chuck Barksdale, and Mickey and Lucius McGill, under the name the El- Rays. They released their first recording in 1954 and two years later had their first R&B; hit with "Oh What a Night". After disbanding due to a near- fatal car crash in 1958, the band reformed in 1960 with Funches being replaced by Johnny Carter.

In 1867 he filed suit to stop the Kilbourn Manufacturing company from building their dam at Wisconsin Dells. In 1889, shortly before his death, he took a trip with the Milwaukee capitalists William H. Bradley, of the Tomahawk Land and Boom Company, and Wallace G. Collins, of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad, to survey and assess pine lands in the State of Washington. Woodman married Charlotte Flint, another Maine native, in Fremont, Illinois, in 1842. They had six children, two of whom died in infancy.

Holmes 1989 pp. 163–166 "Kubla Khan" was composed in the same year as This Lime-Tree Bower My Prison, and both poems contained images that were used in 14 October 1797 letter to Thelwall. However, the styles are very different as one is heavily structured and rhymed while the other tries to mimic conversational speech. What they do have in common is that they use scenery based on the same location, including repeated uses of dells, rocks, ferns, and a waterfall found in the Somerset region.

The Cascades and writer of "Rhythm of the Rain", in 2006. Lead vocalist Jordi Majó was introduced to American popular music by his mother, and had listened to jazz, doo-wop and rock and roll since childhood. His father bought him his first doo-wop record, Classics Original Doo Wop Hits, 1955-1965 (Vogue PIP), when he was eight years old. After hearing the Ly-Dells' "Genie of the Lamp" of and the Valentines' "Lily Maebelle", he began to love doo-wop and collected his own records.

Masters was convinced that these dome-shaped homes built of foam could work for others, so he decided to create a series of show homes in the United States. Masters's business partner Tom Gussel chose the name "Xanadu" for the homes, a reference to Xanadu, the summer capital of Yuan, which is prominently featured in Samuel Taylor Coleridge's famous poem Kubla Khan. The first Xanadu House opened in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. It was designed by architect Stewart Gordon and constructed by Masters in 1979.

Wayne Lensing, the current owner of Dells Raceway Park, announced that The Nabbefeldt Memorial was being revived for 2015, as part of a series of CWRA Challenge Series races. The track also announced two new marquee Super Late Model events in 2015. The first event was the Icebreaker 100, an event held in April before other tracks opened. The second event was the Falloween 150, which was held in late October after all other late model events in the state of Wisconsin had concluded.

WIS 127 begins at a junction with WIS 16 and County Highway WD in the Town of Newport, southwest of Wisconsin Dells. From here, the highway heads east through farmland, crossing County Highway O. It enters the Town of Lewiston, passing to the south of Lake Corning. Past the lake, the route meets County Highways XX and AA in succession before turning southeast; the latter route connects WIS 127 to Briggsville. WIS 127 crosses a creek before turning east to pass Lewiston Elementary School.

WRDB (1400 AM) is a radio station in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. The station broadcasts at 1,000 watts from a tower located just west of Reedsburg. WRDB also operates an FM translator at 97.3 FM. The station currently airs a mixture of oldies and sports - including Reedsburg Beavers high school football, boys and girls basketball, and baseball as well as Milwaukee Brewers baseball, ESPN Sunday Night Baseball and Wisconsin Badgers football, basketball and hockey. WRDB is the primary sports station in the Reedsburg & Wisconsin Dells area.

Chess Records, under A&R; director and producer Roquel Billy Davis, featured such Chicago soul style acts as the vocal harmony groups The Dells ("Stay in My Corner") and the Radiants ("Voice Your Choice"), female singers Jan Bradley ("Mama Didn't Lie"), Fontella Bass ("Rescue Me"), and Jackie Ross ("Selfish One"), and male vocalists such as Bo Diddley's protégé Billy Stewart ("I Do Love You"). Chess' biggest female soul artist, Etta James, performed both in the soft style ("At Last") and the hard style ("Tell Mama").

Thomson "Tommy" Bartlett (July 11, 1914 – September 6, 1998) was an American showman and entertainment mogul from Wisconsin. He is most often associated with the water skiing thrill show based in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, known as Tommy Bartlett's Thrill Show. The success of this and other traveling water ski shows led to Bartlett's induction into the Water Ski Hall of Fame in 1993. His shows have toured the United States, the Far East, and four World Fairs, and have been seen by 50 million spectators.

Kluever in 2008 ASA Midwest Tour race at Milwaukee Kluever began his career by racing motorcycles for over nine years before he moved into full-bodied stock cars at a local track. He raced stock cars in the summer and snowmobiles during the Wisconsin winters. Kluever was the 2000 Rookie of the Year at Dells Motor Speedway in Wisconsin. In 2001, he won the Madison International Speedway Late Model Track Champion, and the Midwest All Racing Series (MARS) Championship and Rookie of the Year.

Pulling into victory lane after winning the 2017 Icebreaker 100 at Dells Raceway Park Majeski moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in early 2017 to work in the Roush organization as an engineer. He reportedly was close to securing a Ford development contract but ARCA champion Chase Briscoe received the contract since he had more large track experience. He began the season racing in the World Series of Asphalt at New Smyrna. Majeski won his second consecutive Rattler 250 over Harrison Burton and Steven Wallace.

One of the few Chiltern commons that has remained open in the area, rather than become wooded. The common was once part of an Anglo-Saxon tithing, or group of ten dwellings.Anglo-Saxon archaeology Downley Bucks: Something else that makes this common unusual is the way it has been changed by its industrial past. The biggest change in its landscape is the excavation of clay, chalk and flint from all over the common, this has left behind pits, called dells, some very large and deep.

State Trunk Highway 16 (often called Highway 16, STH-16 or WIS 16) is a Wisconsin state highway running from Pewaukee across the state to La Crosse. Much of its route in the state parallels the former mainline of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road). The highway parallels Interstate 90 (I-90) or I-94 for most of its length in the state. It serves local traffic in nearby cities including La Crosse, Tomah, Wisconsin Dells, Portage, Columbus, Watertown, Oconomowoc and Waukesha.

Expanding his horizons beyond Chicago, Armin also traveled to work, briefly relocating to Dayton and making trips to the Indiana Dunes, the Wisconsin Dells, New Mexico, Maine and later in life to Lake Chapala in Mexico. Over time, Armin was able to make a modest living as an artist, selling his art and making ends meet with occasional jobs teaching art, including working with the Jewish Board of Education and teaching at Hull House. Armin exhibited regionally and nationally until he died at age 88.

Though the Ran-Dells have been recognized for innovative and pioneering use of a sine wave generator (a first for the pop music genre), the musicians actually responsible for the sine wave tones heard in "Martian Hop" received no credit for the composition. The twelve-second introduction at the beginning of the song is an uncredited sample from the first 30 seconds of "Moon Maid" by Tom Dissevelt and Dick Raaymakers, aka Kid Baltan. It appeared on their experimental album, The Electrosoniks - Electronic Music in 1962, a year before "Martian Hop" was recorded.

WatsonLake Watson Lake is one of two reservoirs at the Granite Dells, in Prescott, Arizona, that was formed in the early 1900s when the Chino Valley Irrigation District built a dam on Granite Creek. The City of Prescott bought the reservoir and surrounding land in 1997 to preserve it as recreational land. Local rockclimbers use the granite cliffs above and adjacent to the lake for top-roping and lead climbing. The lake is also the home of TriCity Prep Rowing Crew, a local high school team and only rowing team in Northern Arizona.

Abbotsford News, October 28, 2016 Entertainment, Violinist Rosemary Siemens performs in Abbotsford In December, while flying to Calgary for a concert, a winter storm caused equipment to malfunction at the Calgary Airport and Siemens gave an impromptu concert for passengers stuck inside the airport. While on a U.S. tour, she performed an impromptu solo violin version of "America the Beautiful" for a retired U.S. Veteran at a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. In 2017, Siemens' duo Roy & Rosemary were guest soloists with the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra & Chorus.

In 1956, they recorded their first hit, "Oh, What a Night" (a song co-written by Johnny Funches, who also sang lead on the recording alongside Marvin Junior), which hit the Top 5 of the R&B; singles chart. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. The song is ranked No. 260 on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. In November 1958, the Dells suffered a car accident that left McGill in a hospital in Ohio for six months.

It is a Stream that does not > overflow having but few tributaries(?) to affect its rise and fall. There > are no settlers in this Township. The dells of the Big Rib River in Goodrich are probably the rapids where Father René Menard disappeared in 1661, while attempting to reach a band of Huron Indians at Lake Chelsea.

Tears and Laughter is a 1962 album by Dinah Washington with Orchestra conducted by Quincy Jones, that was released on Mercury Records (in mono MG 20661 and stereo SR-60661). The orchestral arrangements, partly with strings for the jazz standard repertoire, were provided by Jones, Hal Mooney, Al Cohn, Ernie Wilkins and Billy Byers.Cf. entry in the Mercury Records catalog on Jazzdisco.org. On the second half –the B-side– of the original LP release Washington is backed by the male doo-wop quintet The Dells, who toured with her as the opening act since 1960.

Because of the special geological characteristics of the Jasmund National Park, it is home to many rare plants and animals. In the woods of the Stubnitz, behind the cliffs, there are numerous water-filled dells and hollows, most of which came into existence as ice-age dead-ice holes. A wide range of plants are found in this area, for example, black alder, European crab apple, wild service tree, yew and orchids (like the Cypripedium calceolus). A variety of birds live in the park: white- tailed eagle, kingfisher, house martin and the peregrine falcon.

At approximately 430 miles (692 km) long, it is the state's longest river. The river's name, first recorded in 1673 by Jacques Marquette as "Meskousing", is rooted in the Algonquian languages used by the area's American Indian tribes, but its original meaning is obscure.

Bill Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Everly Brothers, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Johnny Horton, and Marty Robbins were Rockabilly musicians. Doo-wop was another popular genre at the time. Popular Doo Wop and Rock-n-Roll bands of the mid-to-late 1950s include The Platters, The Flamingos, The Dells, The Silhouettes, Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Danny & the Juniors, The Coasters, The Drifters, The Del-Vikings and Dion and the Belmonts. Calypso enjoyed popularity with Jamaican Harry Belafonte being dubbed the "King of Calypso".

The New York Times called her work in the Australian Art exhibition "arrestingly modern" — this was in contrast to the conservative works of other Australian artists. In a later interview with The Advertiser, on 17 June 1936, Allen mentioned all the art work exhibited had non-Australian scenery and had titles such as "Landscape in Spain" and "Bosky Dells in Surrey". She elaborated, "If I had come upon as much as a single kangaroo I would have hailed it with delight". Allen returned to Melbourne in 1935, for eleven months.

Johannes began his first brewery in Spencer, Wisconsin in 1874 and moved on to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 1889 after his first facility burnt to the ground. He purchased the Dells Brewery in Eau Claire from a branch of the Leinenkugel family who were not having success in Eau Claire at the time. He immediately changed the name to the John Walter Brewing Company. Johannes died during Prohibition and his widow sold the brewery and assets to other family members from Appleton, WI who offered to purchase it after prohibition.

The Ardells was a band from West Palm Beach, Florida that had been together since 1959: Bill Ande, Tom Condra, Vic Gray, and Dave Hieronymus. They were originally The R-Dells (aka Ardells). In 1964, their manager —Bob Yorey— changed their name to The American Beetles as a joke, and they toured in South America, then changed names again to The Razor's Edge in 1966 and had a hit with "Let's Call It a Day Girl" on Pow! No further chart action was forthcoming, and Shondell quietly slipped away from the music industry the following year, despite his third single "Na- Ne-No", being produced by Phil Spector. However, in 1963, Tommy Jackson changed the name of his high school band from "Tom and the Tornados" to "The Shondells" in honor of Shondell (one of his musical idols). Jackson became "Tommy James" and international fame followed for the act. Chicago band The Ides of March originally named themselves the Shon-dells, also in tribute to Troy.

During his teenage years, White moved to Chicago where he studied at the Chicago Conservatory of Music, and played drums in local nightclubs. In 1962, along with other studio musicians at Chess, he was a member of the Jazzmen, who later became the Pharaohs. He later found work as a session drummer for Chess Records. While at Chess, he played on the records of artists such as Etta James, Chuck Berry, Rotary Connection, Junior Wells, Sonny Stitt, Muddy Waters, the Impressions, the Dells, Betty Everett, Willie Dixon, Sugar Pie DeSanto and Buddy Guy.

Because of the limits of wood, wooden roller coasters, in general, do not have inversions (when the coaster goes upside down), steep drops, or extremely banked turns (overbanked turns). However, there are exceptions, such as the original loop on Son of Beast at Kings Island; a corkscrew and 110-degree overbanked turn on Hades 360 at Mount Olympus Water and Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin; a steel structure on The Voyage at Holiday World; and banked turns on Ravine Flyer II at Waldameer Park and Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City.

They then borrowed money from friends and family in order to build a hangar on the Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Airport, and moved the VK-30 project from the barn to their new Baraboo headquarters with now only three other employees assisting them (a few years later they would build a second hangar for the production of more prototypes). In a catastrophic flood, most of the huge lake probably drained out the south end in no more than a few weeks - possibly a few days. Upstream, the current cut new channels through the lake-bottom sand. After removing the lake-bottom sand, it cut canyons through the weak Cambrian sandstone beneath, which had existed long before the lake, forming the Dells of the Wisconsin River, that are now largely beneath the high water created by damming the river. Boat tours today show the portions that remain above water.

Cyclops Cyclops is the name of a wooden roller coaster located at Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The ride starts with a left hand 180 degree dive off the lift, traverses three short hills, and a right- handed drop in front of the station (this is the 75 foot largest drop of the ride) and then climbs back up to the breaks. It is a short terrain roller coaster at only 1,750 feet. Cyclops first opened in 1995 and was built by Custom Coasters International and is intertwined with Zeus's structure.

Formed in 1968, the Brain Police consisted of principle songwriters Rick Randle (guitar, vocals) and Norman Lombardo (bass guitar) who were joined by Randle's younger brother David (lead guitar) and Tony Johnson (drums). Johnson left the group however before any recordings were completed, and was replaced by Sid Smith. Other contributors to the band included a black soul group known as the Soul Patrol which occasionally filled in for the Brain Police for live performances. Randle and Lombardo were previously both members of the Man- Dells, one of the earliest garage rock bands to record.

Bires began karting at Sugar River Raceway in Brodhead, Wisconsin at age 9 and began competing in national karting events at age 12. Beverley was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, and started out singing gospel music as a schoolboy in a local church. As a teenager he formed The Blenders, a short-lived a cappella, doo-wop group that were influenced by The Dells, The Moonglows, and The Del Vikings. After that outfit dissolved, he founded The Butlers (subsequently Frankie Beverly and the Butlers), which would be the first group he recorded with in 1963. In 1967, he cut "If That's What You Wanted", which became a Northern soul standard.

State Trunk Highway 13 (often called Highway 13, STH 13 or WIS 13) is a Wisconsin state highway running north-south across northwest and central Wisconsin. WIS 13 serves as a major north-south route connecting the communities of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin Rapids, Marshfield and Ashland. Highway 13 is part of the Lake Superior Circle Tour from its northern/western terminus to Ashland at is eastern junction with U.S. Highway 2. The road also provides access to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore off the Lake Superior shoreline at Bayfield.

John Nicholson did not prosper as a woolsorter and when his father was away from their home, he would take himself off across the moors or into the dells around Eldwick and read or play his Hautboy. He was quite accomplished on the Hautboy and his skill at this would introduce him to his first wife, Mary Driver, whom he met whilst playing at a wedding they both attended. They married when he was 19 and she 18. In 1810, not too long after the marriage, whilst delivering twins, Mary died in childbirth.

WIS 23 was relocated in the Sheboygan area to bypass Plymouth and Sheboygan Falls. Plans for this existed as early as 1972. Grading for the old alignment is still visible to the southwest of the current WIS 23/I-43 interchange, and the rest of the old alignment is still in use today as Greenfield Drive. Proposals were considered that would have rerouted WIS 23 around Lake Delton by following CTH H from Reedsburg directly to Wisconsin Dells, but the village of Lake Delton did not support the plan due to pressure from local businesses.

Bailey was born near the town of Pennsville in Morgan County, Ohio. He earned a civil engineering degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, then moved to Wisconsin and became a civil engineer and lumberman. After successfully building a log dam on the Wisconsin River for use by lumber raftsmen, he and his wife, Mary, purchased several tracts of land in Kilbourn, Wisconsin (now Wisconsin Dells). He built a home in town with acreage that stretched northward up River Road which included the site of present-day Meadowbrook Resort.

Great Wolf Lodge began as a small indoor water park resort called Black Wolf Lodge which was founded in 1997 by brothers Jack and Andrew "Turk" Waterman, the original owners of Noah's Ark water park in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Black Wolf Lodge was purchased by The Great Lakes Companies Inc in 1999. In 2000, founders Marc Vaccaro and Bruce Neviaser changed the name to Great Wolf Lodge and the company headquarters were established in Madison, Wisconsin. In 2001, the company built a second location in Sandusky, Ohio, and named it Great Bear Lodge.

Hall met Miles's nephew (and future drummer) Vince Wilburn Jr in kindergarten and the two became lifelong friends. Wilburn's mother Dorothy, was Miles's sister. The two friends started playing together and at the age of 16 joined a local band called Time, Space and Distance. That soon gained them a reputation around Chicago and they did session work for local groups, including the Dells. When Hall and Wilburn were around 17 years old, Pete Cosey, who had played in Miles's band from 1973 to 1975, began giving them lessons.

The latter was also reissued as a single by Tamla Motown and was a hit in Britain, reaching number 25 on the UK charts in November 1969. He also toured the UK with Martha Reeves & the Vandellas. Johnson remained with Motown, working on sales and promotion, in the 1970s. He also wrote songs for Tyrone Davis and Johnnie Taylor. He co- wrote the Dells’ R&B; hit "Give Your Baby a Standing Ovation", which peaked at number 3 on the R&B; chart and number 34 on the Hot 100 in 1973.

In 1918, today's alignment of WIS 16 was WIS 21 from La Crosse to New Lisbon, along with WIS 12 east of Tomah. The route from Kilbourn (Wisconsin Dells) to Clyman was WIS 29\. WIS 26 followed its current alignment to Watertown and the route from Watertown to Waukesha was WIS 19. WIS 29 was extended westward to La Crosse when WIS 21 was truncated back to north of New Lisbon. When the U.S. Routes debuted in 1926, WIS 29 was removed from the books as the entire alignment was replaced by US 16.

Despite the dismissal of both the group and their final album at the time, the legacy of Honey Cone was reaffirmed when Kanye West sampled the distinctive lead vocals of Edna Wright from the track "Innocent 'Til Proven Guilty" for Common's 2005 single "Testify" from his commercial breakthrough album Be. Edna Wright also made a cameo appearance in the video. This album contains cover versions of The Miracles' staples "Ooo Baby Baby", "Who's Lovin' You", and the 1965 R&B; hit "Stay in My Corner" by The Dells. The group disbanded shortly after the release of this album.

Hades 360 is a wooden roller coaster at Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. When it opened in 2005, the coaster was known as Hades; it was renamed in 2013 when the 360 degree roll was installed. It is the largest roller coaster in the park. Hades 360 is a rarity among wooden roller coasters due to its 360 degree roll, 110-degree over banked turn, steep 65-degree drop as well as its 90-degree banked turn, as drops and angles this steep are generally not included on wooden roller coasters due to structural limitations.

Linderfelt was a founder and the first president of the Wisconsin Library Association in February 1891. He was active in the American Library Association, serving as a councilor from 1883 to 1891 and vice president from 1890 to 1891. He was instrumental in local arrangements for the ALA's 1886 annual conference in Milwaukee, including an eight-day, 1500 mile post-conference train excursion afterwards arranged by Linderfelt, which included a steamboat trip on the Dells of the Wisconsin River. In 1891, he was elected to follow Samuel Swett Green as President of the American Library Association.

Cirrus VK-30 kit aircraft In 1984, Cirrus Aircraft's founders, brothers Alan and Dale Klapmeier, along with spouses Jeff and Sally Viken, started developing the Cirrus VK-30 as a homebuilt aircraft in the basement of the Klapmeiers' parents' barn in rural Baraboo, Wisconsin. After a few years in the design phase, the brothers borrowed money to move the project to their own factory on the Baraboo–Wisconsin Dells Airport, where they began flight testing. The VK-30 was introduced at the 1987 EAA Oshkosh Convention and first flew on 11 February 1988. Kit deliveries commenced shortly thereafter.

Paramount Country Club is located on land originally bought by Paramount Pictures founder Adolf Zukor in 1918, from Lawrence Abraham. Zukor expanded this estate, commissioning noted golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast to build an eighteen-hole golf course on the property, which opened in 1920. Following the reorganization of Paramount Pictures in 1936, Zukor was not able to continue maintaining the Mountain View Farm estate as a private property, and so opened it for membership as the Mountain View Golf and Country Club. In 1948, he sold the property, which became the Dells Golf and Country Club and then Dellwood Country Club.

U.S. Highway 12 (US 12 or Highway 12) in the U.S. state of Wisconsin runs east–west across the western to southeast portions of the state. It enters from Minnesota running concurrently with Interstate 94 (I-94) at Hudson, parallels the Interstate to Wisconsin Dells, and provides local access to cities such as Menomonie, Eau Claire, Black River Falls, Tomah and Mauston. It then provides an alternative route for traffic between northwestern Wisconsin and Madison and is the anchor route for the Beltline Highway around Madison. Finally, it serves southeastern Wisconsin, connecting Madison with Fort Atkinson, Whitewater, Elkhorn and Lake Geneva.

In 1949, Bartlett went to the Chicago Railroad Fair, where he witnessed a water skiing show on the Chicago lakefront. After seeing several more such shows over the course of the fair, Bartlett decided to create and produce his own traveling water ski show using surplus equipment that he bought from the performers. The "Tommy Bartlett Water Ski & Jumping Boat Thrill Show", as it was first called, was highly successful. In 1953, after the show called at Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, Bartlett was asked by the local Chamber of Commerce to keep the show in the city permanently.

W43BR (which uses the false callsign of WRPQ-TV on-air to connect to its sister AM radio station) is a television station based in Baraboo, Wisconsin, United States, and is an affiliate of the Retro Television Network. It is located within Madison's television market but only serves the Baraboo and Wisconsin Dells areas. Its transmitter is located on the Baraboo Range near Devil's Lake State Park co-located with WOLX, W290AL, WRPQ, weather radio station KHA-47 and several other telecommunication services. The station is owned by Baraboo Broadcasting, which also owns WRPQ and operates Baraboo's local government access channel for Spectrum.

At this time, WNNO AM returned to simulcasting Top 40 hits with WNNO-FM. One of the principal owners of Armada Broadcasting is the nephew of radio legend Gary Owens, and Gary's liners for WNNO could be heard on the station during this time period. During the early-mid 90s its format alternated between sports and a simulcast of sister Top-40 station WNNO-FM (106.9), or was otherwise off the air, usually after sunset. WNNO and WNNO-FM had studios together on Superior Street in Wisconsin Dells and would usually be on the air from 6 a.m.

In 1952, Hooker began recording for several independent record companies. His early singles were often credited to the vocalist he recorded with, although some instrumentals (and his occasional vocal) were issued in Hooker's name. Songs by Hooker and blues and R&B; artists, including Johnny O'Neal, Little Sam Davis, Boyd Gilmore, Pinetop Perkins, the Dells, Arbee Stidham, Lorenzo Smith, and Harold Tidwell, were recorded for King, Rockin', Sun, Argo, Vee-Jay, States, United, and C.J. (several of these recordings, including all of the Sun sessions, were unissued at the time). The harmonica player Little Arthur Duncan often accompanied Hooker during this period.

The village of Kennedy was platted in 1908, in an area near the Price-Sawyer County border, adjacent to the Omaha Railway tracks. It may have been named after Pat Kennedy, a Fifield pioneer who kept a tavern in the new village. The land where Kennedy was located was originally owned by Cornell University, who had been given the property through a University Land Grant. Cornell sold the property to the Sage Land Company, which owned much property in nearby Park Falls. The Sage Company later sold the land to Williard Walther of the Dells Lumber and Pulp Company, for $600.

WIS 17 begins at WIS 64, about a half mile east of WIS 64's interchange with US 51 near Merrill. From there, WIS 17 heads northeast, passing the Prairie Dells area and crossing several county routes in Bloomville and Gleason. The highway briefly crosses over out of Lincoln County into Langlade County, Wisconsin The highway then passes through Parrish and turns northwestward and returns to Lincoln County, briefly cutting through Oneida County in the process. The route then turns north for and enters Oneida County heading north another and joining US 8 east and WIS 47 south just south of Rhinelander.

Poet Nikki Giovanni was also a frequent host. The show lasted until March 7, 1973. Among the musical performers who appeared on the show were Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind, and Fire, the Dells, Ashford and Simpson, Al Green, Tito Puente, McCoy Tyner, Max Roach, Gladys Knight, The Delfonics, Kool & The Gang, Mandrill, and Black Ivory, as well as African performers Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba. Others who appeared on the program included boxer Muhammad Ali, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, minister (later politician) Jesse Jackson, actor / singer Harry Belafonte, actor Sidney Poitier, and Kathleen Cleaver, wife of Eldridge Cleaver.

Northeast of Wausau, Highway 52 runs past Hogerty, with access to the Dells of the Eau Claire River Park, a popular recreational park and campground known for its rock formations and waterfalls; the Ice Age Trail also runs through the park. Just past Marathon County, Highway 52 meets up with U.S. Highway 45 and joins it for the drive north to Antigo, the Langlade County seat. Highways 47 and 64 also intersect Highway 52 along this stretch. From Antigo Highway 52 zigzags northeast past Lily, where it has a junction with Highway 55 along the Wolf River.

Chicago soul generally had a light gospel- influenced sound, but the large number of record labels based in the city tended to produce a more diverse sound than other cities. Vee Jay Records, which lasted until 1966, produced recordings by Jerry Butler, Betty Everett, Dee Clark, and Gene Chandler. Chess Records, mainly a blues and rock and roll label, produced a number of major soul artists, including The Dells and Billy Stewart. Curtis Mayfield not only scored many hits with his group, The Impressions, but wrote many hit songs for Chicago artists and produced hits on his own labels for The Fascinations, Major Lance, and the Five Stairsteps.

With a mean elevation of 235 m above sea level at the forest's edge, the lands of the Deidesheim area reach down to some 130 m above sea level at the lower mid-slope area in the foothill zone. The outliers of the Madental and the Sensental, as well as those of the Einsteltal (dales) northwest of Deidesheim, form outflow pathways for the cold winds coming from the Haardt. Also affecting the local climate are small hollows and dells in which cold air can gather. Climatic conditions in Deidesheim have almost Mediterranean traits as witnessed by ripening figs, almonds and bitter oranges in the area.

In 2005 the convention moved to the Plaza Hotel and Suites, which allowed for food sales, and the convention to run for a full 24 hours. From 2006 to 2010 the convention was located at the Ramada Inn Convention Center, until returning to the Plaza Hotel and Suites for 2011. In 2011, the convention brought around $277,000 to the economy of Eau Claire, and held a benefit for the Japanese Red Cross. In 2016, the event relocated from Eau Claire to the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI. No Brand Con 2020 was moved from April to August due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but was later cancelled.

Gourdine, Collins, Wright, and Strain continued touring as "Little Anthony and the Imperials" until Strain retired in 2004 and Jenkins, for the second time, returned to take his place. In 2010, Jenkins also retired, and was replaced by Robert DeBlanc. , the Imperials were (along with the Dells), one of the few 1950s-era R&B; groups still touring with the great majority of their original members (Gourdine, Collins, and Wright). Little Anthony and the Imperials released their first new LP in several years in October 2008, entitled "You'll Never Know", and they performed on the Late Show with David Letterman on August 26, 2008.

Bryan Severson, the owner of 5 County Towing in Reedsburg, bought the track from then owner Luke Herring in 2002. During the 2006 season, the track was having financial difficulties with paying the drivers, and by mid-July Severson shut down the track after his arrest on federal charges of bank fraud. Further investigation found that in 2002 and 2003, Severson had received bank loans from Mark Hardyman, the president of the First National Bank of Blanchardville, and used his towing business and Dells Raceway Park as collateral. To cover up the loans from the bank's board of directors, Severson had written several worthless checks worth millions of dollars.

On May 26, 1973 Wisconsin Rapids driver Lyle Nabbefeldt lost control of his car entering turn one during time trials, crashed into the outside wall and was killed instantly. The Lyle Nabbefeldt Memorial began in 1974 as a tribute to the driver, and it became the Dells' annual marquee event until its last running in the late 1990s. The first running of the event was a 100-lap feature, but the feature format was changed the next year to running two 55-lap features with an overall champion being declared. The change was made to reflect the number 55s that Nabbefeldt ran throughout his racing career.

With both Nax and Cansrel now dead, the new king Nash and his brother Brigan hope to return the Dells to order and stop a civil war. As she's passing through the woods one day, a poacher shoots Fire. She's startled by how confusing and empty his mind is, and uses her powers to make him take her back home. Fire's friend and lover, Archer, locks him up, planning to have Fire use her powers for an interrogation once she's had some time to heal, but the next morning they find that the poacher has been shot dead by an arrow at long-range.

The hot dog stand was a commercial failure, and the Laskaris family was nearly forced to return to Chicago. The family expanded on their property by building a 7-unit motel, and in 1975 they added a go-kart track, "Goofy Karts", along the Wisconsin Dells Parkway. Nick Laskaris, Jim and Fotoula’s son, became the go-karts' chief mechanic at the age of 9.

The group recorded for Don Davis' Groovesville and later Great Lakes music production companies during the 1970s, although the recordings appeared on several labels. The group moved from Volt in 1974 after three albums, releasing one album on Chess Records' subsidiary Cadet, sharing tracks with The Dells, who were also being produced by Davis at the time. The group then signed for ABC in 1975 and transferred five years later to MCA, after ABC closed following its buy-out by MCA. Many of the Dramatics' songs initially were written and produced by Tony Hester, including all the tracks on the first two Volt albums.

The station was founded in 1969 by Obed S. Borgen and originally went on the air as WWDA on 990 kHz (the call sign stood for "Wonderful Wisconsin Dells Area"). An FM sister station, at 106.9 FM, was added four years later, with John Taylor as the general manager. Taylor Electric Company acquired WWDA and the FM station, WQRH) and relaunched the station as WNNO-AM- FM, call letters the AM station would use from the 1970s (during which time it was a Mutual Broadcasting System affiliate) into the 1990s. The station was sold to Voss Radio, Inc. in 1978, and it continued to simulcast Top 40 music.

That recording was produced by P-Funk production assistant Ron Dunbar. Johnnie Taylor remade "(I Wanna Testify)" for his 1969 The Johnnie Taylor Philosophy Continues album - a Don Davis production - from which it was issued as the lead single in April 1969: Taylor's version rose as high as #4 R&B; and crossed over to the Pop Top 40 at #36. George Clinton produced a 1978 remake of "(I Wanna) Testify" by the Dells: the track was released as a single from the album New Beginnings but failed to chart. "(I Wanna) Testify" has also been covered by Roger Taylor, Noel Paul Stookey and Ronnie Wood.

Re-recorded versions of "Wyatt Earp" and "Hey Little School Girl" and Stewart's sides were released in November 1957; however, Okeh completely ignored the records and they quickly fell out of public notice. Despite the commercial flop, Simmons, who was previously a driver for Diddley, was able to chauffeur Harvey Fuqua in late 1958, who informed Simmons his group the Moonglows were on the verge of disbanding. In January 1959, once the original Moonglows concluded a series of performances at the Apollo Theater, Fuqua formed the New Moonglows with the Marquees. The group toured across the US, recruiting bass singer Chuck Barksdale, previously of the Dells, while in Chicago.

Once produced, the spots were enthusiastically received, both at the ad agency and at the client. Wilson was soon creating and producing a long list of memorable and award-winning spots for Burrell and many other ad agencies, often working with such established artists as: Phyllis Hyman, Lena Horne, Anita Baker, Midnight Star, Walter Jackson, The Dells, Peabo Bryson, Ada DyerWindowsmedia.com Vickie Winans, Tramaine Hawkins, The Bar-Kays, Valerie Simpson, Joshie Jo Armstead, Millie Jackson and Rufus Thomas. Also of note is the score Wilson composed for a television film "Happy Birthday, Martin" sung by Joshie Jo Armstead, which is on permanent display at the King Center in Atlanta.

In 1975 Wally Lester and Joe Versharen left the group; they were replaced by new members, Jimmie Ross and Bob Sholes. In 1978, the Detroit based record producer Don Davis — who produced Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., Johnny Taylor, the Dramatics, and the Dells — picked up one of his favorite groups (the Skyliners) to record in his United Sound Studios. They recorded the group's "comeback" album for the RCA subsidiary, Tortoise International Records. The songs "Oh, How Happy" and "The Love Bug" were included, as was a hefty re-make of Dan Schafer's original RCA Victor single, "A Day Without You, Dear". Janet Vogel committed suicide in 1980; Cathy Cooper joined the group as a replacement.

Over half of CP's freight traffic is in grain (24% of 2016 freight revenue), intermodal freight (22%), and coal (10%) and the vast majority of its profits are made in western Canada. A major shift in trade from the Atlantic to the Pacific has caused serious drops in CPR's wheat shipments through Thunder Bay. It also ships chemicals and plastics (12% of 2016 revenue), automotive parts and assembled automobiles (6%), potash (6%), sulphur and other fertilizers (5%), forest products (5%), and various other products (11%).

Upchurch started his career working with the Kool Gents, the Dells, and the Spaniels, before going on to work with Curtis Mayfield, Otis Rush, and Jimmy Reed. (His association with Kool Gents member Dee Clark would continue, including playing guitar on Clark's 1961 solo hit "Raindrops".) He then returned to Chicago to play and record with Woody Herman, Stan Getz, Groove Holmes, B.B. King, and Dizzy Gillespie. In 1961, his record "You Can't Sit Down" by the Philip Upchurch Combo, sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc. The group was formed in 1958 in Manhattan, New York, through a merger of two existing street corner groups, the Yorkville Melodies and the Jokers. The original members were teenagers Stan Zizka (lead), Fred Ferrara (baritone), his brother Tom Ferrara (bass), Leslie Cauchi (first tenor), and Keith Koestner (second tenor). They chose the name Del-Satins as a tribute to The Dells and The Five Satins, and built a solid following with their live performances, coming first in a prestigious New York citywide "Battle of the Groups". Koestner left before their first recording session, to join the US Army, and was replaced by Bobby Failla, later replaced in turn by Richie Greene.

Gene Chandler recorded the #3 Billboard R&B; hit, "Get Down", a huge disco hit in 1978/79, and Davis then brought on board The Chi-Lites (with lead vocalist and producer Eugene Record also taking an executive post), The Dells and The Impressions. Other important R&B; hits included "Does She Have A Friend" by Chandler and "Hot On A Thing" by The Chi-Lites. When the 20th Century deal ended in 1981 (at the same time was sold to PolyGram in 1981 and absorbed into Casablanca Records), Chi-Sound was wound down with Davis using independent distribution for spasmodic releases for 2 years. Gene Chandler stayed for one more minor hit but the other acts moved on.

Tuesday nights were available for special events. On Thursday nights at the quarter mile State Park Speedway, he won seven features and lowered his July 1 14.27 second track record to 14.09 seconds on the following week.

In 2009, Waltrip arranged for Majeski to test an asphalt late model race car at Hickory Motor Speedway. After Majeski got used to driving the car, he was posting lap times quicker that the car's normal driver; Waltrip wanted Majeski to move to North Carolina for the 2009 racing season but his family did not want to move. Majeski ended up remaining in Wisconsin and started racing limited late models in Wisconsin at Pathfinder Racing Chassis / JJ Motorsports Racing as a teammate to Ross Kenseth. He raced a various tracks for the 2010 season including Columbus 151 Speedway, Dells Raceway Park, and Madison International Speedway with former NASCAR Busch Series driver Jason Schuler as his crew chief.

The original 1918 routing of WIS 23 ended the route on the western terminus at Packwaukee at its junction with WIS 10. The route to the east of that point still exists as it is today. The route was extended in the early 1920s to the southwest, following its present routing from Packwaukee through Kilbourn (present day Wisconsin Dells), Reedsburg and Dodgeville, then along present day US 151 from Dodgeville to Dubuque, Iowa via Mineral Point and Platteville. Later in that decade, the route was truncated back to Dodgeville when US 118 was signed, but then extended again – this time along its current route when US 118 became part of US 151.

The stretch of river from Stevens Point north to Merrill was a drainage route for meltwater flowing away from the glaciers which covered northern Wisconsin during the Wisconsin Glaciation. As the glaciers retreated further northward, the river also grew in that direction. South from Stevens Point, the meltwater would have flowed into Glacial Lake Wisconsin, a prehistoric proglacial lake that existed in the central part of the state. As temperatures warmed around 15,000 years ago, the ice dam holding the lake in place burst, unleashing a catastrophic flood that carved the Dells of the Wisconsin River and joined the upper stretches of the river with the pre- existing lower river valley that today flows from Portage to Prairie du Chien.

On June 9, water rushing out of the lake eroded a section of County Highway A and washed away three homes and tore apart several others. The lake became nearly empty and the escaping flood water created a new channel for the Wisconsin River about a quarter mile away from the dam. Wisconsin National Guard engineers began repairs on the dam the same day, but with the breach being about wide, the repairs weren't expected to be completed for over a year. However, as Governor Jim Doyle called the lake critical to the $1 billion Wisconsin Dells tourism industry, he said the Department of Natural Resources was trying to figure out how to get the water flowing in the man- made lake.

Italian Protestants quickly radicalised their views under the influence of religious persecutions, and started propagating Calvinism, Anabaptism or Nontrinitarianism. Its followers Pietro Martire Vermigli, Girolamo Zanchi, Lelio and Fausto Sozzini acted mainly amongst higher social classes, frequently in princes' courts thus protecting themselves to some extent from the Inquisition. In 1550, Pope Julius III affirmed that 1,000 Venetians might be counted as belonging to the Anabaptist sect. Among them Giulio Gherlandi and Francesco dells Saga fell a sacrifice to the Venetian Inquisition in 1565. About 1528 many French radical Protestants (among others Clément Marot and John Calvin) gathered around the prince Ercole d'Este in Ferrara, invited there by the prince’s wife Renée – the daughter of the King Louis XII of France.

In mid-summer he and a French fur trader set out, following rivers and streams in birchbark canoes down into Wisconsin. Finally, a day's journey from the Huron camp, Father Menard separated from his travelling companion at a rapids to carry some supplies. He was never seen again. The place where he disappeared is believed to be the dells of the Big Rib River, below Goodrich in the southeast corner of Taylor county.Schmirler, A. A. On June 8, 1847, before any settlers or loggers, a team of surveyors entered the county southwest of Medford, where County E now enters from Clark County.

On June 20, The Juneau County Department of Health announced that an outbreak occurred at a gentlemen's club in Wisconsin Dells with an unknown number of infected people visiting the club between June 10–14. From June 13–26, Dane County had an uptick of new cases with 614 people testing positive for COVID-19. Roughly half of these cases were between the ages of 18-25 and almost half of these cases had reported attending a gathering or party with people outside of their household. By the end of the month, Dane County had experienced multiple record-setting days of the highest totals of new cases per day in the county, and the trend continued of most new cases being younger people.

With some variation due to realignments over time, the original 1918 routing this highway followed much of today's STH 13, beginning at what was then Kilbourn (present-day Wisconsin Dells), travelling north through Adams, Grand Rapids (now Wisconsin Rapids), Marshfield, Prentice and Ashland, ending in Bayfield. It was later that STH 13 was routed around the Bayfield Peninsula and westerly to just before Superior. STH 13 ends in the Town of Parkland at CTH Z. The route of STH 13 previously ran the length of the state from Beloit on the Illinois state line to the Minnesota state line. From Beloit, Highway 13 followed the roads that are now U.S. Highway 51, U.S. Highway 14, U.S. Highway 12 through Janesville and Madison.

"If You Don't Know Me by Now" is a song written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, and recorded by the Philadelphia soul musical group Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. It became their first hit after being released as a single in September 1972, topping the US R&B; chart and peaking at number 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100. "If You Don't Know Me by Now" was originally written for Labelle (a trio led by Patti LaBelle) but they never recorded it. Much like the issue with "I Miss You" and The Dells passing on it, the song's composers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff gave it to Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, which featured Teddy Pendergrass as lead vocalist.

The album also features songs composed by Ashford & Simpson, Stevie Wonder and Syretta Wright, Bobby Miller, who was responsible for The Dells' long string of hits, and Motown producer Johnny Bristol, but curiously neither Smokey nor any of the other Miracles contributed to the writing on this album and Smokey himself produced only two tracks, the aforementioned "Got to Be There" and "Love Story". The release of this album coincided with the group's final nationwide tour, before replacing Smokey with Billy Griffin. As of 2018, Flying High Together has yet to be issued on CD, but several of its songs have shown up on various Miracles foreign and domestic CD compilations. The Miracles' next studio album was 1973's Billy Griffin-led Renaissance.

The first VK-30 slowly took shape. In 1985, near the Sauk–Prairie Airport airport shortly after takeoff, Alan was involved in a fatal mid-air collision where his airplane lost a portion of its wing, including half of the aileron. The other plane spun into the ground killing the pilot, but Alan was able to maneuver a landing back on the runway by keeping high airspeed and using full aileron deflection. From surviving this incident, Alan sought to make flying safer—ultimately leading to the brothers' pursuit of implementing a parachute on all their designs starting in the mid-1990s. Original Cirrus Design headquarters on the Baraboo-Dells Airport In 1986, the Klapmeiers hired their first paid-employee, an experienced welder and aluminum component designer by the name of Dennis Schlieckau.

Hinton, Sandlin and Hornsby all spent time working as session players in Muscle Shoals. Hornsby and Sandlin worked at Rick Hall's FAME Studios (Florence Alabama Music Enterprises) and from there went to Capricorn Records in Macon, Ga. Hinton had joined some former FAME players known as the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section (or "the Swampers") who split off from Hall and started their own studio, Muscle Shoals Sound, in Sheffield. Hinton was replaced at MSS by Wayne Perkins. As a session guitarist in Muscle Shoals, Hinton played on hit records recorded by Wilson Pickett, Arthur Conley, Aretha Franklin, Joe Tex, Solomon Burke, Percy Sledge, The Staple Singers, The Dells, Bonnie Bramlett, Paul Kelly, Johnny Taylor, Elvis Presley, The Box Tops, R. B. Greaves, Boz Scaggs, Evie Sands, Looking Glass, Toots Hibbert and Otis Redding.

The same year the group recorded a demo album that focused on original material written by Randle and Lombardo in La Mesa in an attempt to secure a recording contract with a major record label. Much to the band's frustrations, the Brain Police received no offers for their work and the group disbanded following a tour with Steppenwolf in the Southwest United States. The recordings went unreleased until 1997, when local music historian Clark Faville discovered the unreleased album and released it on the Rockadelic Records imprint; the Brain Police's album has remained in print since 2012 through various labels. In 2000, Shadoks Music released the San Diego's Only Psychedelic Cops compilation album which reissued material recorded by the Man-Dells and the Other Four for the first time.

Co-founder John Spirt (drums) possessed prior recording experience and national success as a credited writer and singer on the Ran-Dells' Top 20 novelty hit "Martian Hop", in 1963. With the arrival of the Beatles and the onset of the British Invasion, Spirt formed a Beatlesque band, which complimented his composing style. Spirt recruited Zach Bocelle (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Randy Bocelle (bass guitar), and Mike Burke (lead guitar, vocals) as bandmates, and hired record producer Steven Rappaport – the cousin of Spirt and producer of "Martian Hop" – as the band's manager. When asked if the band had any other influences in an interview, Rappaport limited them just to the Fab Four, before saying: "it's obvious from listening that their influences were generally Merseybeat – not just the Beatles".

Major acts on the label in the 1950s included blues singers Jimmy Reed, Memphis Slim, and John Lee Hooker, and rhythm and blues vocal groups the Spaniels, the Dells, and the El Dorados. The 1960s saw the label become a major soul label with Jerry Butler, Gene Chandler, Dee Clark, and Betty Everett having hit singles on both the pop and R&B; charts. Vee-Jay was also the first label to nationally issue a record by the Pips (through a master purchase from the tiny Huntom label of Atlanta), who became Gladys Knight and the Pips in 1962 when they moved to Fury Records. Vee-Jay had significant success with pop/rock and roll acts, such as the Four Seasons (their first non-black act) and the Beatles.

In dealing with such scenes lie submerged the idealistic in his temperament, and described the life as he found it — took bright patches from Nature and transferred them to paper.

In March 2017, Majeski announced he would be making his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Iowa Speedway in June, followed by a part-time schedule in the series and ARCA. On April 24, 2017, after testing a car at Daytona International Speedway, it was announced that Majeski would run five ARCA races for Cunningham Motorsports. Majeski racing in the 2018 Xfinity Series race at Road America In April, he returned to Wisconsin for the first asphalt race of the year; he led the last 44 laps to take the Icebreaker 100 win at Dells Raceway Park. Two months later, in his Xfinity debut at Iowa, Majeski qualified tenth and ran as high as fifth, but was involved in an accident with Kyle Benjamin on lap 114; he finished 34th.

Myrick is also credited as a founding member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) Some of his most famous saxophone solos include Phil Collins': "All of My Life", "If Leaving Me Is Easy" and "One More Night", the latter even featuring Myrick performing the sax solo in the official music video, filmed in a London pub. Another was the live recording of "Reasons" featured on the Earth Wind & Fire Gratitude album, and "After the Love Has Gone" from the album I Am. He performed with many prominent musicians including Grover Washington, Jr. and Carlos Santana."Saxophonist Donald Myrick fatally shot in drug probe", Jet, 23 August 1993. Myrick appeared on albums by artists including Bobby “Blue” Bland, The Dells, Regina Belle, the Mighty Clouds of Joy, and Heaven 17.

He also wrote and produced for other artists, mostly on Brunswick, including Acklin, Jackie Wilson, The Lost Generation, Otis Leavill, and later, The Dells and The Impressions. When Brunswick began to falter due to legal and financial issues in the mid-1970s, Record decided to go solo and released three albums (entitled The Eugene Record, Trying to Get to You, and Welcome to My Fantasy) in the late 1970s on Warner Music Group without major success, before re- joining The Chi-Lites in 1980. As well as returning to sing with the group, he teamed up again with Carl Davis, formerly his mentor at Brunswick, to produce and take on executive duties for Davis' Chi-Sound Records label. Record stayed with The Chi-Lites until the mid-1980s for several albums on various labels before leaving again.

Her performance of the song in the 1956 film The Girl Can't Help It helped to make it a million-selling hit, reaching # 9 in the US Billboard chart and # 22 in the UK. The song, which was also covered by Joe Cocker in 1970, contains the lyric: 'told me love was too plebeian, told me you were through with me 'n...'. Another success for the two was Marv Johnson's major hit in 1959, "You Got What It Takes" (#2 R&B;, No. 10 pop), as the two continued to work together. In the early 1960s, Davis left Detroit and moved to Chess Records in Chicago, after being persuaded by label owner, Leonard Chess to take charge of the A&R; and creative departments, bringing in and supervising in-house songwriters, arrangers and producers, who were aiming now at the soul and crossover pop markets. During this period, he wrote and produced for many artists, including Etta James, The Dells, Billy Stewart, Little Milton, Jackie Ross, Mitty Collier, Fontella Bass and Jackie Wilson. "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher," sung by Jackie Wilson, was Davis' biggest hit, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Charts on October 7, 1967.

"I Can't Get Next to You" is a 1969 number-one single recorded by The Temptations and written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for the Gordy (Motown) label. The song was a number-one single on the Billboard Top Pop Singles chart for two weeks in 1969, from October 18 to October 25, replacing "Sugar, Sugar" by The Archies and replaced by "Suspicious Minds" by Elvis Presley. The single was also a number-one hit on the Billboard Top R&B; Singles for five weeks, from October 4 to November 1, replacing "Oh, What a Night" by The Dells, and replaced by another Motown song, "Baby I'm For Real" by The Originals. The single was the second of the Temptations' four number- one hits on the United States pop charts, and was also one of the best-selling singles the group released.

A vocal group is a group of singers who sing and harmonize together with a backup band. While some group members may play their own instruments, it is uncommon. Groups that play their own instruments are generally categorized as bands instead of vocal groups. Some of the best-known of these groups include the Miracles, the Four Tops, the Platters, the Drifters, the Temptations, the Four Seasons, the Marvelettes, the Commodores, the Impressions, the Jackson 5, the Manhattan Transfer, Gladys Knight & the Pips, James Brown & the Famous Flames, the Lettermen, Martha and the Vandellas, the Chi-Lites, the Dramatics, the Delfonics, the Pointer Sisters, the O'Jays, the Supremes, the Beach Boys, Dion and the Belmonts, the Midnighters, Boyz II Men, the Spinners, the Dells, the Stylistics, the Mamas & the Papas, the Bee Gees and Little Anthony and the Imperials.

WIS 13 begins at I-90 / I-94 and passes east through Wisconsin Dells as an urban multilane highway, crossing US 12 and merging with WIS 16 and WIS 23 east through the city. WIS 13 then turns north, while WIS 23 heads east and WIS 16 heads south one mile (1.6 km) east of the city. WIS 13 follows the Wisconsin River north through Adams County, passing through Plainville, Adams and Friendship. The highway then crosses WIS 21 three miles (5 km) north of Friendship and finally passes through Cottonville, Big Flats and Rome before entering Wood County. In Wood County, WIS 13 crosses WIS 73 at four miles (6 km) east of Nekoosa before entering Wisconsin Rapids. WIS 13 joins WIS 54 south at the Riverview Expressway, a short bypass of the downtown area.

They signed to Fountain Records in 1971 and the act split in 1972, with Fauntleroy drafted into the military and Johnson going on to become an important songwriter and producer for the next 30 years (often working with Fauntleroy) for acts such as the Dells, Peabo Bryson, the Whispers and Norman Connors. In 2004, three decades after the Unifics called it quits, Johnson and Fauntleroy decided to resurrect the group and recruited Newport News, Virginia veteran singers Charlie Lockhart and Garrett Hall to complete the quartet. Then, at the end of 2004, they self-released Unifics Return, the first Unifics album in over three decades. [ The Unifics] at Allmusic Member Al Johnson had a briefly successful solo career in the 1980s and worked with Norman Connors, Jean Carn, The Whispers, Sharon Redd, Gayle Adams and Special Delivery.

Cirrus Design VK-30 on ramp at the Baraboo–Wisconsin Dells Airport in Baraboo, Wisconsin, c. 1988 The VK-30 design was conceived in the early 1980s as a kit plane project by three college students, Alan Klapmeier and Jeff Viken from Ripon College in Wisconsin, and Alan's brother, Dale Klapmeier, who was attending the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. Jeff Viken's wife, Sally, designed the VK-30's flap system. Together, in the Klapmeiers' parents' barn in rural Sauk County, Wisconsin, they formed Cirrus Design as the company to produce the VK-30 (VK standing for Viken-Klapmeier). The aircraft has an all-composite construction and was designed to achieve natural laminar flow over the fuselage as well as the wing and tail surfaces to provide for very low drag—using a NASA NLF(1)-0414F airfoil.

In 1971, he bought one of Detroit's premier recording studios, United Sound,SoulfulDetroit - United Sound Systems - Great Soul Music Recording Studios of DetroitDiscogs - United Sound Studios - profile and discography used by a host of musicians including George Clinton, Aretha Franklin, The Dramatics, The Dells, Carla Thomas, Michael Henderson, David Ruffin and Johnnie Taylor.Great Soul Music Recording Studios of Detroit Tour He also used the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama to record the basic rhythm tracks on some of his productions.

The festival concerts take place in a range of venues including churches in villages such as St Monans, Crail, Kilconquhar, Kilrenny and Cellardyke as well as unusual spaces such as Scotland's Secret Bunker an aircraft shelter at RAF Leuchars, gardens, caves, dells, local attractions and notably, The Bowhouse, a large barn on the Balcaskie Estate which is transformed into a performance venue especially for the event. Musicians and ensembles join together in residencies for practically the duration of the festival playing core chamber music repertoire alongside new commissions, contemporary works, jazz and world music. Storytelling, poetry, literature, exhibitions, films and other art and installation projects also feature. Other performers have included conductor/pianist Christian Zacharias, violinist Alexander Janiczek and writer Dr Richard Holloway, the Alban Berg Quartet, Skampa String Quartet, Belcea Quartet and Leipzig String Quartet, the Doric String Quartet, Elias String Quartet and Royal String Quartet.

Interstate 39 (I-39), I-90 and I-94 run along the far east side of the city, connecting to Janesville to the south, Milwaukee to the east, and to Portage, La Crosse, Eau Claire, and Wausau heading north and northwest. U.S. Highway 151 (US 151) runs through downtown and serves as the main thoroughfare through the northeast (as Washington Avenue) and south-central parts (as Park Street) of the city, connecting Madison with Dubuque, Iowa to the southwest and Fond du Lac and Manitowoc to the northeast. US 12, frequently referred to by locals as the Beltline, is a six- to eight-lane freeway serving the south and west sides of Madison and is the main link from the west suburb of Middleton to Cambridge. Southeast of the area, US 12 connects to Lake Geneva, and going northwest, it heads to Wisconsin Dells.

Doo-wop was another popular genre at the time. Popular Doo Wop and Rock-n-Roll bands of the mid to late 1950s include The Platters, The Flamingos, The Dells, The Silhouettes, Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers, Little Anthony and The Imperials, Danny & the Juniors, The Coasters, The Drifters, The Del-Vikings and Dion and the Belmonts. The new music differed from previous styles in that it was primarily targeted at the teenager market, which became a distinct entity for the first time in the 1950s as growing prosperity meant that young people did not have to grow up as quickly or be expected to support a family. Lee Evans was born and raised in the Sound View section of Bronx New York. Starting as a child, through the ages of 14–17 years old, Lee Evans put together some of his talented friends from "Monroe Projects" in the Bronx. He formed, wrote, arranged, played piano and sang in the young harmony group “The Fourth Edition” a group that went on to win amateur night at the legendary Apollo Theater six times, sharing the stage with artists that shaped pop music as we know it today such as, Stephanie Mills, Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5, The Dells, The Delfonics and James Brown. After graduating from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art then on Convent Avenue in Harlem NYC and attending Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Bronx Community College & City College, he started performing as a band member and/or musical director for acts such as The Jimmy Castor Bunch, Brass Construction, Kleer, New Edition, Johnny Gill, salsa artist Willie Colón and as a musical director for The Force M.D.s, Afrika Bambaataa, and a host of others.

The final leg up to the Twin Cities operated in Wisconsin on BNSF trackage. 261 ran an excursion from Minneapolis to Duluth via BNSF trackage in both 2005 and 2007. Three June 2006 excursions were launched from Milwaukee: A dinner train in Friday 23 to Sturtevant, Wisconsin, and Saturday and Sunday excursions (24th and 25th) to Wisconsin Dells. For these runs, the train was turned at New Lisbon. These excursions would be repeated in August 2008. Preparing for an excursion from Minneapolis Junction, September 2008. In September 2006, 261 and its train visited Rock Island, Illinois as part of RiverWay 2006, a Quad Cities celebration of the 150th anniversary of the first railroad bridge across the Mississippi River in 1856. As part of the festivities, 261's train was coupled to a pair of Chinese-built QJ 2-10-2 steam locomotives for a trip to Homestead, Iowa, on September 15, 2006. The next day, 261 was added to run a "triple-header" from Rock Island to Bureau Junction, Illinois; then, on the following day, the QJs pulled the train, without 261, to Muscatine, Iowa, and back.
