Dennis was born in Newburgh, New York, and grew up on Long Island. He moved to Carlyle, Illinois, in 1836. He married Mary Kain Slade, widow of Illinois Congressman Charles Slade. Charles Slades´ three sons would become Dennis' stepsons.

Wheatland is a town in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,373 at the 2010 census. The census-designated place of Powers Lake is located partially in the town. The unincorporated communities of Lily Lake, New Munster, and Slades Corners are also located in the town.

The highway continues eastward from Lake Geneva to the border of Kenosha County. The Russells Mills Village Historic District is a historic district on Russells Mills, Rock O' Dundee, Slades Corner, Horseneck and Fisher Roads in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. It encompasses an area that was an early industrial center, flourishing from the 18th century into the early 19th century. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The camp and gun emplacement was established at the start of the Second World War in Slades Hill, Enfield. A half-battery of 3.7 inch mobile guns had previously been temporarily sited nearby during the Munich Crisis of 1938. WIS 50 in Slades Corners Highway 50 was designated in 1917, and signage for the highway was posted in 1918. The highway has changed little since and still follows its original route for most of its length. The route of Highway 50 through Kenosha changed in 1997; the highway moved from 75th Street to a more northerly alignment along Roosevelt Road and 63rd Street.

Soon after the initial pressing on Domino as the Spades, their name was changed to the Slades and the record was released on the Liberty label with national distribution. Their second recording for Domino records was their biggest. "You Cheated" peaked at #42 in 1958 on the Billboard charts.

Robert Glen "Bobby" Doyle (August 14, 1939 – July 30, 2006) was an American singer, bassist, and pianist. He is best known for his early work with a young Kenny Rogers and for a brief stint with Blood, Sweat & Tears. He played piano on two tracks on BS&T;'s 1972 album New Blood. Doyle joined the doo-wop group The Spades (later The Slades) in 1957 while still at McCallum High School in Austin.

It is clear from almost twenty years of Slade accounts that the surname of the second man of ten at "Counch" was not Jilsed, but Tilsed - a common name in Slades' home port of Poole in Dorset. William Griffin, Ben Brooke, William Cake, James Warne, William Wherry, James Vincent, William Enos, Matthew Legg were fishermen based in Conche, while in 1792 Twelve French ships were reportedly based in Conche (H.A. Innis: 1940).

Rogey is rushed to the hospital and the Corbetts, Slades and Hoyt all wait to hear the outcome. The doctor finally announces that Rogey will survive, but is seriously hurt and only his mother can see him. Susan, unable to hold back any longer, reveals that she is Rogey's true mother, which causes Wells to rescind his marriage proposal, although his father Stanton praises Susan for her honesty. However, Hoyt's feelings for Susan have not changed.

An inventory in 1907 listed the yard as containing Buildings A and B (stores), a cooperage, slades, police guard room, electricians workshop, two garages, kitchen, Officers Dining Room, two floor office block containing a yard pattern room, seamstress room, and carpenters workshop. There were also yard craft accommodated on the waterfront. These included two work boats, a passenger launch and two well lighters. The Navy would continue to maintain some stores on Garden Island and constructed additional storehouses on Cockatoo Island in 1919.

Howard-Jones attended St.Hilda's School in Penarth and then the London Garden School. In 1920 she went to the Slade School of Art in London, graduating four years later with a Fine Art Diploma that included distinctions in painting, wood engraving and design. She won the Slades summer composition prize for her oil painting Christ on the Road to Calvary. As a student Howard- Jones created a mural for the headquarters of the Student Christian Movement in Gower Street near the Slade.

Before that it had been part of a larger estate, Worgorena league (the clearing of the people of Worcester), which also included Little Witley. The clearing concerned would have been in the southern portion of the still extensive but retreating Wyre forest. Slades, ridges and copses mentioned in the grant would have been around Witley Park and to the west of Little Witley village. Bishop Oswald of Worcester (961–992) decided to reform the financing of the church by leasing more of its lands.

However, when Domino passed on a national distribution deal with Dot Records, the song was soon covered by the Los Angeles-based Shields who had the bigger hit. The Slades record was still popular enough to earn them a spot on American Bandstand. Many follow up recordings and back up credits for other Domino label artists followed, but none sold as well as "You Cheated". As a small label, Domino didn't have the distribution of a larger label which contributed to the group's eventual demise.

By the time the first locomotives arrived in November 1899, an external contractor had constructed the 158 houses of the new railway village. The total cost of the project was £74,500, and in scale it was only second to Stewarts Lane, able to service 100 steam locomotives. But its opening allowed closure of the smaller sheds at Woolwich Arsenal and Deptford. Slades Green railway station was opened to serve the depot and adjoining community on 1 July 1900, and by 1910 the full "railway village" of houses and ancillary community buildings had been completed.

"Ferryside" where Daphne du Maurier's 1931 novel The Loving Spirit was written In August 1644, the king visited Cornwall and an attempt was made on his life with a cannonball, it missed, but was reported to have killed a fisherman nearby. During the late 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, Bodinnick and the nearby villages of Fowey and Polruan were home to wealthy shipping merchants and master mariners. The well known families who lived at the time were the Slades, the Salts and the Tadds. These families, for several generations, were involved in trading and transporting local China clay or imported coal with their schooners through the local ferry harbours.

The bank instigated a "buying spree" of other financial companies in 2008, acquiring Slades Ferry Bank that year. In 2009, its acquisition of Benjamin Franklin Bank brought Rockland into the western suburbs of Boston for the first time. The Central Bank purchase in 2012 brought Rockland to have branches north of Boston. The bank was planning further expansion in 2012. In 2015, the bank was named the No. 1 largest company by the Boston Globe in its "2015 Top Places To Work" feature. In 2015, it was reported that Rockland Trust had secured its first branches in Boston, with the $131 million acquisition of Peoples Federal Savings Bank's holding company.

Slade designed the Roseville Methodist Church in Cardigan Street, Camperdown (now the Camperdown Stanmore Community Church of the Assembly of Confessing Congregations). The Slades were a prominent family of Methodists and they had particular interests in Tryon Road: Percy Newman Slade (1972-1944) had settled in the Lindfield area at the commencement of his professional career as an accountant and real estate agent. Percy was prominent in the Methodist Church, being an original trustee of the local church and financial adviser to the Central Methodist Mission. In 1895 he married Claudia Brown, the daughter of Dr George Brown, a former Methodist missionary in the South Pacific. Percy settled at Malila at No. 13-15 Tryon Road in 1906.

The mercantile saltfish premises at Battle Harbour were established by the firm of John Slade and Company of Poole, England in the early 1770s. Lying just north of the old French Shore, Battle Harbour served as the gateway for Newfoundlanders seeking to fish in the resource rich waters of Labrador. The local population increased rapidly after 1820 when Newfoundland fishing schooners adopted Battle Harbour as their primary port of call and made it the recognized capital of the Labrador floater fishery. Battle Harbour remained in the hands of Slade and Co. until 1871, and during this time became a settled community, dominated by the fish merchants, but with its own evolving institutions, especially schools and churches. In 1871 the Slades sold Battle Harbour to Baine, Johnston and Company Ltd.

In the middle of their journey Dr Slade and his wife have a chance encounter with an important looking lady who tells them that she is going to visit her son. Arriving by ship at a provincial town in an unnamed Latin American country, they find that accommodation is sparse, and so Mrs Slade agrees to share a room with her at some seedy hotel for just one night. During that night, the lady is murdered with an injection of curare, but when the Slades leave very early the next morning to catch a connection, Mrs Slade erroneously believes the woman lying next to her is still fast asleep. A few days later, in another town, they read in the paper that the hotel burned down immediately after they had left and that the woman died in the fire.
