Flying Saucers!) the characters themselves never seem to age. From the first album on, Hubinon always drew Buck Danny with a realistic, weathered face and a military crew cut for his blond hair. Like this his visible age has always been somewhere between 25 and 49. Although Bergèse, as a scenarist makes 'his' Buck Danny appear more grizzled and war-weary, as an artist, he mostly kept to Buck Danny's original look, although in the latest albums the lines on his face appear a bit deeper.

The crew are then forced to travel back through the wormhole without any guidance or help from the A.I. Notaker has described his more recent style of music as darker and more abstract compared to his earlier works, experimenting with gritty distorted textures in his sounds and attempting to write his music in a less conventional manner.

He took on the role of the superheroic interplanetary troubleshooter to battle space pirates, alien invaders, evil scientists and other futuristic threats both cosmic and criminal, hiding his true identity beneath a transparent blue helmet and operating out of a hidden asteroid base via his sleek super-swift scarlet spaceship the Solar King. Possessing no powers other than his highly developed brain and brawn, the crew cut, yellow and red spacesuit-clad "Guardian of the Solar System" (later "Guardian of the Universe") armed himself with a vast variety of super- scientific gadgets like the all-purpose multi-ray pistol he wore on his weapon belt. Space Ranger is assisted by the only two people who knew his secret, his loyal and highly efficient beautiful blond secretary/girlfriend Myra Mason and his plucky and clever cute little pink alien sidekick Cryll, a big-eyed, trunk-snouted shapeshifter with the ability to transform into sundry super- powered extraterrestrial lifeforms who he had found frozen in suspended animation beyond the orbit of Pluto.

Co-hosted by crew-cut lad's-lad Ed Hall and former commando survival expert Hugh McManners, two teams of three were deposited somewhere dire for a week, to survive, eat nasty food, and perform demanding tasks, being judged daily by Hugh for the vital points that decided which team proceeded to the five-star hotel holiday, and which remained in self-induced squalor. The teams were job-oriented, pitted appropriately: the worthy nurses slogged it out in the Mexican jungle with the devious and anarchic estate agents; the persevering taxi drivers met the ebuliance and over-confidence of the hospital doctors on a remote Crete beach; the bland bank managers were out-classed by vegetarian, camel-head-eating students with body piercings in the Sahara, the models were screen-tested by die-hard lawyers on a Phuket desert island; the builders made collapsing shelters from Azores eucalyptus trees while two warring IT specialists were kept in line by a call centre manager. And so on. The programmes were rich with useful survival tips from Hugh, plus plenty of examples of how not to do it - and the accompanying suffering.

The name drew a contrast to football haircuts, which had been long since 1889 when Princeton football players began wearing long hair to protect against head injury, thereby starting a trend, not altogether welcome; mop haired football players were frequently caricatured in the popular press.

(1965). The films were aimed at the kiddie-matinee market, and most were black-and-white farce outings in the Stooge tradition, with the exception of Snow White and the Three Stooges, a children's fantasy in color. They also appeared in an extremely brief cameo as firemen (a role that Larry, Moe, and Shemp had also played in the pre-"Three Stooges" film Soup to Nuts in 1930) in the film It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), and in a larger capacity that same year in 4 for Texas starring Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
