As he had no children the barony became extinct on his death. After his death, Lady Weardale rarely visited Weardale Manor. On her death in 1934, she left it to her nephew, Lord Stanhope. Ralph John Cicerone (May 2, 1943 – November 5, 2016) was an American atmospheric scientist and administrator. From 1998 to 2005, he was the chancellor of the University of California, Irvine. From 2005 to 2016, he was the president of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). He was a "renowned authority" on climate change and atmospheric chemistry, and issued an early warning about the grave potential risks of climate change.

In 1926 he settled in Paris and became a photographer and correspondent for numerous German and international newspapers. He reported for the Berliner Tageblatt, the Vossische Zeitung, Cicerone, Kunst, and especially Weltkunst. He became known for his reviews for world art and reports on the current Paris art scene. Cicerone is an old term for a guide, one who conducts visitors and sightseers to museums, galleries, etc., and explains matters of archaeological, antiquarian, historic or artistic interest. The word is presumably taken from Marcus Tullius Cicero, as a type of learning and eloquence. The Oxford English Dictionary finds recorded examples of the use earlier in English than Italian, the earliest quotation being from Joseph Addison's Dialogue on Medals (published posthumously 1726).

The event, which is conducted under the tutelage of the Italian president, lasts three days, starting with the traditional commencement ceremony on the second Friday of March, and is organised by the Centro Studi Umanistici Marco Tullio Cicerone. The test takes place in the buildings of the Liceo-Ginnasio Tulliano. High school seniors studying classics from all over Europe are free to participate, provided that they pay an inscription fee (although many high schools provide waivers and several governments send students who did well in national championships free of charge).

In 1782 he moved to Rome and went on to live in Italy until 1796, visiting Venice, Florence, Naples, and Sicily. Hirt became increasingly interested in art, after reading Johann Winckelmann's works and being exposed to wide variety of art available for study in Italy. He worked as an archaeologist and from 1785 also as an established and knowledgeable cicerone (tour guide). His clients included Goethe, Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff, Margravine Louise of Brandenburg-Schwedt, Prince Nikolaus II Esterházy, Herder, Duchess Anna Amalia of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, and the countess Wilhelmine von Lichtenau.

He died on 14 April 1841, aged 82. A fortnight later, the Inverness Courier published a commemorative piece on Shanks, calling him the "beadle or cicerone of Elgin Cathedral", and writing: Some minor works took place during the remainder of the 19th century and continued into the early 20th century. During the 1930s further maintenance work followed that included a new roof to protect the vaulted ceiling of the south choir aisle. From 1960 onwards the crumbling sandstone blocks were replaced and new windows were fitted in the chapterhouse, which was re-roofed to preserve its vaulted ceiling.

The UC Irvine Anteaters baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball program of the University of California, Irvine. The team's home venue is Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark located on campus in Irvine, California. UC Irvine baseball has been a member of the NCAA Division I Big West Conference since the start of the 2002 season which was the Anteaters' first season of play following the university's decision to revive its baseball program after the sport had been dropped following the 1992 season. The Anteaters won the College Division national championship in 1973 and the Division II national championship in 1974.

Foxes Tarn is one of the smallest named tarns in the Lake District,The Tarns of Lakeland, Volume 1: West, John Nuttall & Anne Nuttall, p98, Cicerone, 1995 situated slightly to the east of the summit of Sca Fell. Joe Cicerone, Harry Booras and Rich Clements founded The Channel in 1980, choosing the name because the club sat at the edge of the Fort Point Channel, which separates South Boston from the Financial District. The club was on the other side and a little south of where the Boston Tea Party took place (old Griffin's Wharf) in 1773. Cicerone's involvement in the club would be short lived and he would soon be replaced by Jack Burke. Burke and Harry Booras along with Peter Booras as General Manager would run The Channel throughout its heyday of the 1980s.

If viewed on a west–east axis, the Northern Limestone Alps extend from the Rhine valley and the Bregenz Forest in Vorarlberg, Austria in the west extending along the border between the German federal-state of Bavaria and Austrian Tyrol, through Salzburg, Upper Austria, Styria and Lower Austria and finally ending at the Wienerwald at the city- limits of Vienna in the east. The highest peaks in the Northern Limestone Alps are the Parseierspitze (3,036 m/9,961 ft) in the Lechtal Alps,Reynolds, Kev (2010). Packhorses were heavily used to transport goods and minerals in England from medieval times until the construction of the first turnpike roads and canals in the 18th century. In both versions the trail begins in Fort William and ends at Cape Wrath lighthouse on the northwest tip of the Scottish mainland. It connects with the West Highland Way, North Highland Way and part of an alternative route suggested by Cameron McNeish which follows the Great Glen Way out of Fort William before joining the main route in Glen Shiel. A new, updated guidebook to the Cape Wrath Trail was published by Cicerone in May 2013. These guidebooks estimate an experienced walker should be able to traverse the entire route in less than 20 days.

Popa signed his name to a public protest decrying vote-rigging during the November 1946 election; there were ten other signatories, including aviatrix Smaranda Brăescu and Army General Aurel Aldea.

Salutati was born in Stignano, a tiny commune near Buggiano (today's province of Pistoia, Tuscany). After studies in Bologna, where his father lived in exile after a Ghibelline coup in Buggiano, the family returned to Buggiano, which had become more securely part of the Republic of Florence. There he worked as notary and pursued his literary studies, coming into contact with the Florentine humanists Boccaccio and Francesco Nelli. The refined and masterful classical Latin of his letters to Florentine scholars earned him the admiring nickname of "Ape of Cicero",Italian "Scimmia di Cicerone", with implied praise.

Initial plans to build their own brewery with the funds from their initial public offering were paused after the proposed brewery suffered from protracted negotiations over resource consenting issues. Moa have subsequently boosted production through a contract with another brewery. Moa's management and directors came under some criticism from Milford Asset Management, a NZ Fund manager, as the share price fell from its listing price of $1.25 to 55c in July 2014. Founder Josh Scott completed a Diploma in Viticulture and Wine Production from the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology and in 2015 he became New Zealand's only Certified Cicerone.

Cicerone is an English publisher specialising in guidebooks for walkers, climbers, trekkers and cyclists. The company's first publication was a climbing guide to the English Lake District, and over the past 50 years they have built up a broad range of guidebooks covering the best walking, trekking and cycling in the World. Figures from main headings in "Browse Books" The company was founded in 1969 in Milnthorpe, Cumbria, a few miles south of the Lake District, moving premises to Kendal in 2017. The founders were Walt Unsworth (died 6 June 2017) and Brian Evans and their wives.

The World Resources Forum (WRF) is a non-profit organisation for sharing knowledge about the economic, political, social and environmental implications of global resource use. WRF promotes resource productivity among researchers, policymakers, business, NGOs and the public. In addition to organizing international and regional conferences, the WRF Secretariat coordinates multistakeholder dialogue projects, amongst others the Sustainable Recycling Initiative (SRI) as well as the H2020 projects Towards a World Forum on Raw Materials (FORAM), and CEWASTE. The WRF contributes to other EC-projects (like CICERONE and RE:SOURCE) and projects with the German development organisation GiZ, UNEP and UNIDO.

He was the 1999 laureate for the Bower Award and Prize for Achievement in Science. The American Geophysical Union awarded him its James B. Macelwane Award in 1979 for outstanding contributions to geophysics by a young scientists and later in 2002 its Roger Revelle Medal for outstanding research contributions to the understanding of Earth’s atmospheric processes, biogeochemical cycles, and other key elements of the climate system. The World Cultural Council honored him with the Albert Einstein World Award of Science in 2004. Cicerone revived the baseball program at UC Irvine in 2002, while he was its chancellor.

The assembly, attended by the Jewish writers removed in 1940, proceeded to elect a committee, with the most votes going to the list headed by Victor Eftimiu as president. The new committee members were N. D. Cocea, Papadat-Bengescu, Cezar Petrescu, Cazaban, Celarianu, Stancu (who resigned and was replaced by Perpessicius), Mihai Beniuc, Lucia Demetrius, Boureanu, Cicerone Theodorescu and Jebeleanu. Andrei Pippidi, "Casa din Popa Rusu", in Dilema Veche, Nr. 232, July 2008 1934 was the year when Janco returned as architectural theorist, with Urbanism, nu romantism ("Urbanism, Not Romanticism"), an essay in the review Orașul. Janco's text restated the need and opportunity for modernist urban planning, especially in Bucharest. Orașul, edited by Eliad and writer Cicerone Theodorescu, introduced him as a world-famous architect and "revolutionary", praising the diversity of his contributions. In 1935, Janco published the pamphlet Către o arhitectură a Bucureștilor ("Toward an Architecture of Bucharest"), which recommended a "utopian" project to solve the city's social crisis.

Cicerone joined the University of Michigan as a research scientist, later holding faculty positions in electrical and computer engineering from 1971 to 1978. In 1978 he moved to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego as a research chemist. He was appointed senior scientist and director of the Atmospheric Chemistry Division at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado, in 1980. He held this position until 1989 when he joined the University of California, Irvine (UCI), as professor of earth system science (having founded the department) and chaired the Department of Earth System Science from 1989 to 1994, when he became Dean of Physical Sciences.

18th-century writer Ivan Lovrić, observing Fortis' work, thought that it came from "more" (sea) and "(v)lac(s)i" (strong) ("strongmen by the sea"), and mentioned how the Greeks called Upper Vlachia Maurovlachia and that the Morlachs would have brought that name with them. Cicerone Poghirc and Ela Cosma offer a similar interpretation that it meant "Northern Latins", derived from the Indo-European practice of indicating cardinal directions by colors. Other theories suggest that it refers to their camps and pastures which were built in "dark" places, that it was a demonym derived from the Morava river region, or from the Morea peninsula, or, according to Dominik Mandić, from African Maurs.

Art magazines published Hess's works: the Lipsian "Cicerone" published the painting "Am Strand" (On the beach); the Munich magazine "Jugend", official voice of the "Jugendstil" movement, published on the cover of the April 1930 issue the oil painting "Fischer mit roter Weste" (Fisherman with red jacket), central part of a triptych shown at the Secession exhibition. Its initial theme of a general-purpose scenic and curiosity park led to one of its most famous attractions, a large whale skeleton, which had been washed up near the coast of The Needles in 1842, and is still a showpiece today.

Furio Cicerone, a large Sicilian entrepreneur who came from the ranks, finds himself hindered by a loan from a bank due to an indispensable assessment. The large sum requested by him is available only after five days from the assessment, while he needs it immediately to prevent his employment contract from being canceled; then he turns to an acquaintance, Gianni, who however places conditions on him to help him. The conditions imposed by Gianni are those of being able to woo Clara, Furio's wife and eventually have a sexual relationship with her; all without Furio intervening. Furio, having his hands tied, reluctantly accepts; Clara, feeling overshadowed, decides to play along with the two men.

In the Pyrenees, iron climbing aids were installed on the Pic du Midi d'Ossau in 1880, and in the Ordesa in 1881. Eccles was one of the first British mountaineers to make ascents of the higher peaks of the Rockies. On 7 August 1878, in a party of eight including surveyor Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden, topographer A. D. Wilson and Eccles's favourite guide, Michel Payot, Eccles made the second ascent"Fremont Peak", summitpost.org, retrieved 28 September 2010 of Fremont Peak (once mistakenly considered the highest peak in the Rockies); he also climbed Wind River Peak in the Wind River Range while accompanying the Hayden Survey,Neate, W. Wilson and Payot.

Seaman reached wider attention with the production of her 2003 series of photographs of the Arctic Ocean island of Svalbard. Since then, her work has continued to engage with the effects of climate change through the depiction of icebergs, storms and other natural phenomena. Regarding a major exhibition mounted at the National Academy of Sciences, Ralph J. Cicerone noted that the Academy had two goals in mind, "to encourage wider appreciation of her artistry and to stimulate focused thought about the important roles that ice formations play in climatic change." For her work merging science with art, Seaman was named a TED Senior Fellow and profiled in Wired and on The New York Times "Lens" photojournalism blog.

While managing the Hassler he was often invited to participate with his staff in several culinary festivals in famous hotels around the world and since 1997, he is a consultant to the Imperial hotel in Tokyo for the management of the famous Restaurant Cicerone and to the Indian hotel chain Oberoi for the Italian restaurants in their hotels in Mumbai and New Delhi, In 1999, Roberto Wirth founded the International Wine Academy of Roma, in a 1500 building along the Spanish Steps. The intention was to create a place where wine lovers could meet for wine tastings or wine courses. A few years later, he opened a four-room boutique hotel in the same location: Il Palazzetto Il Palazzetto.

The main route originally ran for , with approximately of ascent using the latest digital measurements from the Ordnance Survey's 'OS Maps' website. Previous estimates were and of ascent using paper maps and counting contours in 2008, and and of ascent using Ordnance Survey's 'Getamap' website in 2012. The latest measurements of ascent take into account the extra ascent of undulations between plotted points and are, therefore, considerably greater than previous estimates and probably more accurate, though they are still subject to a margin of error. Following a number of changes to the route that are incorporated in the latest Cicerone guide, the main route has increased to approximately 479 km (298 miles) with a total ascent of 22,460 m (73,700 ft).

Cicero's great repute in Italy has led to numerous ruins being identified as having belonged to him, though none have been substantiated with absolute certainty. In Formia, two Roman-era ruins are popularly believed to be Cicero's mausoleum, the Tomba di Cicerone, and the villa where he was assassinated in 43 BC. The latter building is centered around a central hall with Doric columns and a coffered vault, with a separate nymphaeum, on five acres of land near Formia. A modern villa was built on the site after the Rubino family purchased the land from Ferdinand II of the Two Sicilies in 1868. Cicero's supposed tomb is a 24-meter (79 feet) tall tower on an opus quadratum base on the ancient Via Appia outside of Formia.

He began his professional career as a radio announcer and for journalistic career in television was host of "Um Homem Chamado Notícia" (A Man Called News) in which news of the day and had always ended the broadcast with the famous phrase "head over heels, no one is made of iron". Followed by a brief instant political career when he was Chief of Staff of the State of Pernambuco, in the era of Governor Nilo Coelho (1967–1971). The sprawling cairn on the wide summit of Black Combe Walks to the top of the fell begin at St Mary's Church, Whicham to the south; St Mary's Church, Whitbeck to the west or from the Corney Fell Road which crosses the fells at an altitude of 1,250 feet four miles to the north of the top. The summit plateau is a very flat peat-covered area.

Born in Salem, Oregon, Anguiano began playing soccer from the age of seven and was playing for Capital FC Timbers when he joined the Portland Timbers youth academy in 2015. Anguiano made his professional debut with Portland Timbers 2, the club's reserve team, as an amateur player against Reno 1868 on July 23, 2017. He came on as an 84th–minute substitute for Russell Cicerone as Timbers 2 drew the match 1–1. On January 30, 2019, it was announced that Anguiano had signed a professional contract with Portland Timbers 2. Prior to him signing with Timbers 2, Anguiano was set on enrolling at the University of North Carolina and join the North Carolina Tar Heels before deciding to turn professional.

A view of Trefriw from across the valley, near Llanrwst A major Roman road (Sarn Helen) ran southwards through Trefriw from the fort at Caerhun (between Trefriw and Conwy) to the fort at Tomen-y-mur (near Trawsfynydd), and beyond, ultimately reaching Moridunum at Carmarthen. It is likely that there were in fact two roads passing through the Trefriw area, a valley route, and a higher mountain route which went on to link to the smaller forts at Caer Llugwy (near Capel Curig) and Pen-y-Gwryd, near Snowdon. The actual lines of these roads through Trefriw can only be conjecture today, but the whole route is discussed in depth in the book Sarn Helen by J. Cantrell & A. Rylance (Cicerone Press, 1992).

Jörg C. Meyer is the official scientific glassblower of the University of California, Irvine.... Meyer was born in Berlin, Germany, and learned glassblowing from his father and grandfather, who both worked in the same trade. He traveled to Australia, and blew glass for the Australian National University in Canberra, before moving again to Southern California. He was hired at UC Irvine by chemist Frank Sherwood Rowland at the founding of the university in 1965, and worked with Rowland and Mario J. Molina on their Nobel-prize-winning research on ozone depletion. As well as making scientific equipment for chemists, physicists, and atmospheric scientists, his creations have included a glass baseball mitt for Ralph J. Cicerone and a non-functional glass clarinet for UCI chemist Harold W. Moore.

Part of the Crib Goch ridge. An easy section of the path runs over the grassy saddle Crib Goch is described as a ‘knife-edged’ arête in the Snowdonia National Park in Gwynedd, Wales. The name means ‘red ridge’ in the Welsh language. The highest point on the arête is above sea level. All routes which tackle Crib Goch are considered mountaineering routes in winter or scrambles in summer—meaning that they must cross ‘graded territory’ as defined in Steve Ashton's Scrambles in Snowdonia.Steve Ashton, Scrambles in Snowdonia, (Cicerone Press, 1992) The easiest of these lines (the ‘bad step’ part of the route) is given a scrambling grade of Grade 1 (the most difficult being Grade 3—routes more difficult than Grade 3 are considered rock climbs).

Stuart was born in 1713 in Creed Lane, Ludgate Street, London, to a Scottish sailor who died when he was young. Proving a talented artist while his family was in poverty, he was apprenticed to a fan painter to support the family financially. However, in around 1742, he was able to travel to Italy (albeit on foot) for his artistic improvement, working there as a cicerone and a painter, learning Latin, Italian and Greek, and studying Italian and Roman art and architecture. There he produced his first major work, his illustrated treatise on the Egyptian obelisk of Psammetichus II within A. M. Bandini's De obelisco Caesaris Augusti, and met Nicholas Revett, a young East Anglian nobleman and amateur architect on his Grand Tour.

In the UK public access to the foreshore, below the line marking high tide, has existed for a long time. The intertidal zone is generally deemed to be owned by the Crown although there are some exceptions.

Another notable performance of that season was the good run from the Romanian Cup, where "the Sharks" were eliminated in the semi-finals by UTA Arad (2–3). In the 1966–67 season, Farul made again a good impression in the Divizia A and finished 4th. At the end of that season, as a reward for the form shown, Farul went into the first international tournament, played in Lebanon, Kuwait and Syria, where "the Sailors" played 6 games.

In 1974 Frank Sherwood Rowland, Chemistry Professor at the University of California at Irvine, and his postdoctoral associate Mario J. Molina suggested that long-lived organic halogen compounds, such as CFCs, might behave in a similar fashion as Crutzen had proposed for nitrous oxide.
