Anson Horace Carter (born June 6, 1974) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for eight different teams, most notably with the Boston Bruins, Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks. He was last active as a player with HC Lugano in the Swiss Nationalliga A, and currently works as a hockey analyst for NBC Sports and MSG Network. Carter is also the founder of Big Up Entertainment, a record label specializing in hip hop music. He attended high school at Agincourt Collegiate Institute and attended college and played collegiately at Michigan State University.

Colin Kazim-Richards (born 26 August 1986), also known as Colin Kâzım, Kâzım or Kâzım Kâzım, is a professional footballer who plays as a forward for Championship club Derby County. Born and raised in England (big-up) , he qualified for Turkish nationality through his mother's heritage. An anglicised form of the Turkish given name Kâzım was intended to be a middle name, which would have rendered his full name as Colin Kazim Richards, but due to an error, he was legally registered as Colin Kazim-Richards. In 2004 the group launched its debut album "Excalibur" including the songs "Le Monde Bouge", "Mama Africa" and "Ghetto" In 2005, the group participated in Melodifestivalen, the race to the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Linköping, Sweden with the song "Big Up", a multilingual English / French song with an intro in Lingala coming sixth.

From 2004 to 2008 the group sold over half a million records and won the All African Kora Awards, an African equivalent of the Grammy for the category Best Group – Diaspora Europe/Caribbean category, while Mohombi became a prolific songwriter in his own right. At this point, music was only a part-time job, and looking for something more, Mohombi headed to Los Angeles to delop further his career. In 2005, Avalon participated in the Melodifestivalen, in a bid to qualify for Eurovision Song Contest 2005 representing Sweden with English and French multilingual song "Big Up" that also included an intro in Lingala language.

In October 2006, what is thought to be the first US-released commercial compilation of German hip hop (and reggae), "Big Up Berlin," was released in the US. It received 4.5 of 5 stars in All Music Guide (now known as All Music) and featured artists such as Bushido, Fler, Curse, Kool Savas, Azad and others. Today, the German hip hop scene is a reflection of the many dimensions that Germany has come to represent in a unified image of Europe.
