The Government of South Korea claimed this flight of P-1 was menacing and unfriendly to the warship of a neighbour country which was operating a rescue mission in the high seas. According to the Government of Korea, it is Japan, not Korea, if any, that acted ungentlemanly and menacingly to the neighbour country at the site and should apologize to the other.

The BBC 1992 made-for- television movie An Ungentlemanly Act spearheaded the GBC 1999 schedules on Relaunch Night. As part of the 1999 relaunch, GBC TV acquired the broadcast rights to various international TV series and Made for TV movies. Titles included the British action series Bodyguards, the Australian dramedy SeaChange, the Australian medical drama All Saints, the British romantic dramedy Cold Feet (screened under the Foreign Markets title "Life, Love and Everything Else"), reruns of classic Western drama Bonanza, the Canadian police drama Cold Squad; and factual series, "Hutan: Wildlife of the Malaysian Rainforest", Movies, Games and Videos, Cybernet, Adventure and discovery, Reel Adventures and "Sportsworx". GBC TV also "fills" its schedules with random episodes of music shows "London Live" "Legends of Jazz" and "The album Show".

The club was campaigning against violence (both on-field and among the crowd), ungentlemanly conduct and poor sportsmanship, issues that plagued the VFA to a far greater extent than the rival VFL since the 1896 split. With Birmingham leading 2–1 going into injury time at the end of normal time, Byron Webster made it 2–2 to send the tie into extra-time when he controversially chipped into an empty net after Birmingham goalkeeper Colin Doyle had kicked the ball out following an injury to Dan Burn. Yeovil initially refused to allow Birmingham to walk-in an equaliser, with the game in extra time defender Luke Ayling scored his first goal for Yeovil after 145 appearances to make it 3–2 to Yeovil in extra time with a left-footed drive. Then at the start of the second period of extra-time Lee Novak was allowed to score an unopposed equaliser after manager Gary Johnson decided Webster's goal had been "ungentlemanly". In response to claims of feigned injuries during the 2006 World Cup, the Premier League has asked players, managers and referees to end the custom as of the 06/07 season, instead preferring a referee alone to determine whether a break in play is needed.

The season also saw many on-field disturbances (foul and abusive language, fighting, and ungentlemanly conduct), officials suspendedBrisbane Courier - 22 August 1923 and a Natives FC supporter deliberately breaking a window at the Toombul club. 1925 was potentially a pivotal year for the local game, when the Queensland representative team "deprived New South Wales of the Soccer ashes for the first time since 1890", with a 2-0 defeat at the (Gabba) Cricket Ground (at that time, the 'headquarters' of the game).

It is frequently stated the referee's whistle was first used in a game between Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Norfolk in 1878; however the last such fixture known to have taken place between the two clubs was in 1874. The Nottingham Forest account book of 1872 apparently recorded the purchase of an "umpire's whistle" and in 1928 an article by R M Ruck about his playing days in the early 1870s referred to the use of a whistle by umpires to indicate an infringement. The whistle was not mentioned in the Laws of the Game until 1936 when an IFAB Decision was added as footnote (b) to Law 2, stating "A Referee's control over the players for misconduct or ungentlemanly behaviour commences from the time he enters the field of play, but his jurisdiction in connection with the Laws of the Game commences from the time he blows his whistle for the game to start." In 2007, when IFAB greatly expanded the Laws of the Game, an Additional Instructions section became available, which is a full page of advice on how and when the whistle should be used as a communication and control mechanism by the referee.
