The Honourable Artillery's regimental band recruits a large number of ex-serving regular army musicians from the Royal Artillery, Corps of Royal Engineers and Guards as well as civilians with no previous military background. Captain John Manners Yorke, 7th Earl of Hardwicke DL, JP (30 October 1840 – 13 March 1909), styled The Honourable John Yorke until 1904, was a British naval commander and peer. Yorke was the second son of Admiral Charles Yorke, 4th Earl of Hardwicke, by the Honourable Susan, daughter of Thomas Liddell, 1st Baron Ravensworth. Charles Yorke, 5th Earl of Hardwicke, and Elliot Yorke were his brothers and Albert Yorke, 6th Earl of Hardwicke his nephew. Like his father he served in the Royal Navy and gained the rank of Captain in 1854.

Reverse of Candahar, Ghuznee, Cabul version The Candahar, Ghuznee, Cabul Medal was awarded to those who took part in the campaign in the spring and summer of 1842, under the command of General William Nott, to restore British standing in Afghanistan after earlier defeats during the First Anglo-Afghan War. The medal was approved by General Order at Simla by the Honourable East India Company on 4 October 1842. Approximately 22,100 were awarded, about 4,400 to members of the British Army and 17,700 to the mainly native forces of the Honourable East India Company.

Devereux succeeded his father in the viscountcy in 1804 and took his seat on the Tory benches in the House of Lords.
