Ogun, he argues, is "a totality of the Dionysian, Apollonian and Promethean virtues."Soyinka (1973).
" He was described as "a Promethean wit bound in a Promethean body, one of the most entertaining men in existence ... [and] called the 'Central Park West Voltaire' by Ben Hecht.Louvish, Simon. Man on the Flying Trapeze: The Life and Times of W.C. Fields, W.W. Norton & Co. (1999) According to Kael, Mankiewicz did not work on every kind of picture. He didn't do Westerns, for example, and once, when a studio attempted to punish him for his customary misbehavior by assigning him to a Rin Tin Tin picture, he rebelled by turning in a script that began with the craven dog frightened by a mouse and reached its climax with a house on fire and the dog taking a baby into the flames.
The loan, structured as a note convertible into shares of Excite, had an interest rate of zero. The key aspect of the deal was that Promethean gained first dibs on Excite's assets. By August 20, 2001, @Home fired their auditor firm Ernst & Young, replacing them with PricewaterhouseCoopers. In addition, they received a demand for the immediate repayment of $50 million in debt by bondholders Promethean Capital Management and Angelo Gordon & Co. At the same time, both Cox Cable and Comcast announced that they would separate from the broadband Internet service by Q1 of 2002. On September 13, 2001, Excite@Home sold Blue Mountain Arts for $35 million to American Greetings, less than 5% of what they had paid less than two years earlier.
He is also said to be responsible for the shark's teeth, the stingray's tail and the spines of the scorpionfish. He is, however, credited with the Promethean feat of bringing humanity the secret of fire, having employed a bird to bring an ember down from the sun. He is also the mythological originator of tattooing.
However, Hercules' fellow Avengers followed them and defeated Typhon's allies as Captain America restored Hercules' memories. Hercules knocked Typhon's axe out of his hands and restored the Promethean Flame returning the Olympians to Olympus. Typhon refused to tell Zeus how he escaped from Tartarus. Zeus then has Kratos and Bia return Typhon to Tartarus.
In 1988, a stage adaptation of the novel was presented by the Intiman Playhouse in Seattle. Peter S. Beagle wrote the script, which was a musical presented in collaboration with Pacific Northwest Ballet. The production was directed by Elizabeth Huddle. In fall 2009, a new stage adaptation was presented in Chicago by Promethean Theatre Ensemble.
All classrooms include Promethean World interactive whiteboards. The building features large skylights that can be seen from both the top and bottom floors to promote natural lighting. The school's new HVAC system is expected to save 30 percent in energy costs. In 2012, the Pittsburgh Steelers funded a new $200,000 football field for the school.

All classes are air-conditioned. Each class has a whiteboard, message board and 2 push-pin boards, one at the front right side and one at the back. Cambridge classes and KBSM classes have additional facilities, Promethean Activboards, SMART boards and Epson Multimedia Projectors. Teachers and students use these boards for presentations and interactive teaching.
For the half of the century, the official historiography considered Chetniks as most responsible for the failure and lifting the siege of Kraljevo, presenting them as deceitful and untrustworthy with minimal combat value. On the other hand, the Partisans were depicted as heroically brave with almost perfect characteristics who had a role of Promethean heroes.
Józef Piłsudski about 1916 Office 2 was also responsible for "Promethean operations," conceived by Józef Piłsudski. The idea was to combat Soviet imperialism by supporting irredentist movements among the non-Russian peoples of the Soviet Union. Thus the Prometheists' ultimate goal was nothing less than the dismemberment of the Soviet Union.Andrzej Grzywacz et al.
James Marshall became CEO in September 2012, replacing Jean-Yves Charlier. In May 2014, Graham Howe stood down as chairman, and was replaced by Philip Rowley. In July 2015, NetDragon announced that it had agreed to buy the company. In September 2015, Promethean acquired touch and gesture technology from Light Blue Optics for an undisclosed sum.
When Zeus was sent into the Land of Shades, he regained some of these features. Typhon wielded an axe that was composed of unknown Olympian metals. After it absorbed the Promethean Flame's power, it had the ability to fire blasts of lightning, call forth creatures from the Land of Shades, and even send others into the Land of Shades.
There are over 50 computers in total in the libraries and 12 dedicated computer rooms. Most of the classrooms have interactive whiteboards (most of which are Promethean ACTIVboards). A combination of wired and wireless networks allowing teachers to use their laptops anywhere. The register in the school is taken via computer, using a Student information system, called SIMS.
This literary Bohemian earned his bread first as a typographer and then as an editor of the daily Serb Independence in San Francisco. Creator of the new sensibility in patriotic poetry, his poems of exile and national struggle were enflamed. The literary revolt, pronounced in his verses, inspired the Promethean Pesme Nezadovoljnika i Roba (Poem to a Beggar).
During this period, Marshal Piłsudski still remained in power, first as Chief of State (Naczelnik Państwa), later transitionally as chief of the General Staff (Sztab Główny). Promethean affairs now also involved the successive chiefs of the General Staff, Gen. Władysław Sikorski and Gen. Stanisław Haller, and the chief of the General Staff's Section II (Oddział II: intelligence), Col.
Ignacy Matuszewski. Poland worked together with Promethean political émigrés who were in official contact with Poland's Foreign Ministry, with Polish diplomatic offices in Istanbul, Bucharest, Prague, Tehran and Paris, and with the Polish General Staff. As early as 1922, the first group of Georgian officers, recommended by the Georgian government, were accepted into the Polish Army.
The album is dedicated to Miller's wife, Tanya, and musicians who inspired him. The record contains eight compositions: four originals and four jazz standards. The originals are: the blues-inspired "Song for Darnell", named after his son; "Promethean", inspired by a Greek myth; "Portrait of a Mountain"; and "Saud's Run". The last two are dedicated to McCoy Tyner.
The school was the first school in continental Europe to have Promethean interactive whiteboards installed with the integrated projector and now has interactive whiteboards installed in every classroom from the Nursery to year 6. BISB is a non- selective entry school and prior to admission, most pupils undergo informal interviews with the Headteacher, if they are in Belgium.

Trease was born in Nottingham in 1909, third and youngest son of George Trease (1873–1932), a wine merchant, and his wife Florence Dale (1874–1955), a doctor's daughter. He won a scholarship to Nottingham High School, where he wrote stories, poems, and a three-act play; awarded a Classics scholarship to Oxford University, he found his tutors dull and after a year, left university without a degree and moved to London. Intent on becoming a writer, he also worked with slum children and joined a left-wing group called the "Promethean Society" whose members included Hugh Gordon Porteus and Desmond Hawkins.Desmond Hawkins, When I was: a memoir of the years between the wars Macmillan, 1989 (pp. 73-4)The Promethean Society's key influences included Marx, Freud, Trotsky, Wells and Gandhi.
The last, fifth period of prewar Polish Prometheism (1933–39) was, in Charaszkiewicz's words, one of "seven lean years." A number of developments contributed to this: # The Polish-Soviet non-aggression pact (1932) stopped Polish policy-makers from continuing Promethean work in the field. It was felt that in the Soviet Union a process of national renewal was to some extent taking place spontaneously in the Promethean countries, thanks to the existence of autonomous republics, to Soviet support of general education in the national languages, and to natural reactions of protest among local peoples to economic, religious and cultural phenomena; and so activity on the ground could be dispensed with for the moment. The solidarity and strength of the political émigré communities should, however, continue to be maintained.
Stanisław Haller Władysław Sikorski During Poland's second Promethean period (1921–23), after the Treaty of Riga that ended the Polish-Soviet War, Poland went forward with her independent life within established eastern borders alongside the Baltic states. The states of the Black and Caspian Sea basins, however, lost their independence, being absorbed by the Soviets. What Charaszkiewicz terms the "legitimate" governments and political representatives of these Promethean countries emigrated: # the government of the Ukrainian People's Republic, to Poland, France and Czechoslovakia; # the government of Georgia, to France; # the government of Azerbaijan, to Turkey and France; # the governments of Kuban and Don, to Czechoslovakia; # the Northern Caucasus' Mountain National Center, to Turkey; # the Armenian National Center, to France; # the Tatar National Centers (Crimea, Idel-Ural, Turkestan), to Turkey, France and Poland.Charaszkiewicz, 2000, p. 62.
History is the record of these crises and judgments which man brings on himself; it is also proof that God does not allow man to overstep his possibilities. In radical contrast to the Promethean illusion, God reveals himself in history, especially personified in Jesus Christ, as sacrificial love which overcomes the human temptation to self- deification and makes possible constructive human history.
Achilli has also contributed to Werewolf, Mage, Promethean, Changeling, Ravenloft, and other titles. He was promoted to Editing & Development Manager at White Wolf in 2005. He has worked on over 100 Vampire titles. Achilli co-designed the Exalted role-playing game with Steve Wieck and Robert Hatch, and the game was published in 2001; the game was both well-received and commercially successful.
Halsey passes the second piece to Fireteam Majestic. Palmer wounds Halsey in the arm just before a Promethean teleports 'Mdama and Halsey from the base. 'Mdama sets Requiem to collide with the nearby sun and his forces evacuate the planet. Fireteams Crimson and Majestic disable devices that anchor Infinity to Requiem, allowing the ship to escape before the installation is destroyed.
Beginning in 2003 students were issued 1:1 laptop computers for classroom and personal use during the school year, but had to return their computers before the end of the year. In 2011, the school purchased Promethean Boards for every classroom and in 2013 the school received a DODEA grant to provide all students and teachers with Apple iPad Air tablets.
The association of Lucifer with Prometheus and other mythological figures such as Loki was a particular feature of 19th-century theosophy and the esoteric writings of H.P. Blavatsky; see The Secret Doctrine (London, 1893), vol. 2, p. 296 online. The Promethean qualities of Lucifer are a standard theme in Milton studies; see Lucifer and Prometheus for a perspective on Paradise Lost.
Promethean Ambitions: Alchemy and the Quest to Perfect Nature. United Kingdom: University of Chicago Press. The position here is that the devil is real, creating delusions in the mind, but that the delusions do not have bodily reality. This skeptical treatment of magic sharply contrasts with the sanction of witch trials by the church in later centuries, beginning with the bull Summis desiderantes affectibus (1484).
Opelika High School was originally built in 1972. In August 2014, a $46 million renovation and construction project was completed. The new building contains 87 new classrooms on two floors including seven computer labs. Each classroom is outfitted with a Promethean interactive whiteboard, projector and ELMO document camera. The business technology labs are outfitted with ClearTouch 70” interactive displays that are fully integrated with new educational software.
Scholars have noted that Wild Seed revisits a variety of myths. The new facility is mostly indoors to allow for overall protection from the elements and a more secure campus, and uses new technology such as new Promethean boards and an all new auditorium. Students were given access to the facility on the first day back to class in 2011 after winter break, and both staff and students are currently working on adjusting to the new facility.
Activprimary is a software application designed specifically for teachers and children in the primary education sector who use an Activboard Interactive Whiteboard, Promethean's Interactive Whiteboard. Activprimary was designed and implemented by Nigel Pearce together with a software development team at Promethean (Blackburn, England). Activprimary is similar in functionality to the software application Activstudio but is designed with a simpler user interface aimed towards the younger learner.
Before that, it had never been a domain of the Polish General Staff's diversion unit (Office A.1, later Office U); thus Charaszkiewicz's predecessor, Col. Puszczyński, had not been encumbered with this responsibility. Puszczyński, Charaszkiewicz explains, had not initially attached importance to Prometheism, due to an overoptimistic assessment of the new Soviet Union; but in time he came to support the Promethean concept.Charaszkiewicz, 2000, pp. 76–77.
Charaszkiewicz, 2000, p. 59. Prometheism had no organizational or political backing in any Polish political party of the left, right or center. Within the Piłsudskiite camp [obóz Piłsudczyków] itself, Prometheism found many opponents. Paradoxically, among young people in Poland's National Democratic Party—arch-rivals of the Piłsudskiites [Piłsudczycy]—and some other opposition youth organizations, the Promethean question was spontaneously taken up and gained advocates.
The Prometheus scale is so called because of its prominent use in Alexander Scriabin's symphonic poem Prometheus: The Poem of Fire. Scriabin himself called this set of pitches, voiced as the simultaneity (in ascending order) C F B E A D the "mystic chord". Others have referred to it as the "Promethean chord". You can think of it as C Lydian b7 without the 5th degree.
Germany did, however, have an alliance with the Cossack territories of Don and Kuban; these declared their independence from Russia, and Skoropadsky channeled German armaments aid to them. The western Allies, however, chiefly France and Britain, did not want to see Russia lose territory and, following Germany's collapse in 1918, forced Skoropadsky to propose Ukrainian federation with Russia — thereby causing his fall from power and eventual Bolshevik victory in Ukraine, much as also happened in Georgia and Azerbaijan. Immediately after the loss of independence by the peoples of the Black and Caspian Sea basins and the annexation of those lands in 1921 by Soviet Russia, Poland was the only country in Europe that gave material and moral support to the political aspirations of their Promethean (pro-independence) émigrés. Only after Hitler's accession to power (January 30, 1933), states Charaszkiewicz, would Germany begin showing a strong interest in the Promethean question.
He commented: "Having these pacts, we are straddling two stools. This cannot last long. We have to know from which stool we will tumble first, and when that will be". Critics of the two non-aggression pacts accursed Piłsudski of under-estimating Hitler's aggressiveness, of giving Germany time to re-arm and of allowing Stalin to eliminate his socialist opponents, primarily in Ukraine; they were supported by Piłsudski's Promethean program.

The school is modeled after the layout of another PUSD school, Westview. The design is a radial pattern, with all buildings linking to a central common area. The principal has announced that elective programs offered at the school will be based on student interest, following these ideas. Del Norte will also be equipped with the latest technology, including a school-wide data-sharing network, VoIP, and Promethean Activboards in all classrooms.
Cylla was attracted to Typhon, but discovered that he had no interest in romance. She freed Typhon from the Underworld and brought him to the Temple of Prometheus to reclaim his axe. The pain of him reaching into the Promethean Flames and his cries drew the attention of the temple's guardians Kratos and Bia. Typhon defeated them and discovered that his axe has been burned to his flesh.

They are able to in a controllable manner alter and improve nature. This thought is also reflected in the act of writing. “[T]he hand does not write by the motion alone of nature, but as ruled by intellect through art.” Paul of Taranto, Theorica et practica, in William R. Newman, Promethean Ambitions: Alchemy and the Quest to Perfect Nature (Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 2004), 69.

The system was also integrated with library software to enable students to borrow books without the need for a library card. In 2004, the school was among the first in Northern Ireland to boast Class Room 2000 (C2K) technologies with every classroom containing an interactive Promethean whiteboard, a data projector (with television and DVD capabilities) and a networked computer with access to the Internet, e-mail and educational software.

Jackson was presented in a gold-plated solid bronze Promethean casket furnished by the Batesville Casket Company, which cost roughly $25,000. It is similar to the one in which James Brown was buried. The closed casket at the Staples Center was decorated with red roses and Bells of Ireland flower arrangement. The casket was escorted by Jackson's brothers, each wearing a single sequined white glove on the hand in which they held the casket.
But the quintessential Julian > Ritter comes to us through a series of sumptuously painted, monumental > pictures which I choose to call lifescapes. His promethean story about how > he has travelled from spiritual darkness into the shimmering world of > rapture. Julian's magnificent vertical work which he calls 'The Black Hole' > tells us the story of Julian's transgression and his penance. One example of a mixed-media watercolor and chalk is "Bachelor's Housekeeping" painted in 1939.
Forward Unto Dawn drifts towards the Forerunner installation Requiem. Cortana wakes Master Chief from cryonic sleep shortly before forces from a newly formed Covenant splinter faction board the vessel. The remnants of Forward Unto Dawn are caught in Requiem's gravity well and pass through an opening to crash-land on its interior. As Chief and Cortana explore Requiem, fighting hostile forces from the new Covenant faction and mechanical warriors called "Promethean Knights", Cortana malfunctions.
Wolf, known for his interest in and contributions to Marxist thought in anthropology, says that Marxism must be understood in the context of kinship and local culture. Culture and power are integrated, and mediated by ideology and property relations. There are two branches of Marxism, as defined by Wolf: Systems Marxism and Promethean Marxism. Systems Marxism is the discipline of postulates that could be used to frame general laws or patterns of social development.
Also on-board is a former Promethean named Sharp-by-Striking, another Catalog and a Builder named Maker-of-Moons. It is learned that Sharp lost favor with Faber and Maker was going to give Catalog testimony against Faber, so all three found themselves on the broken ship as well. Their destination is a Flood-infested world called Uthera Midgeerrd. Eventually a Precursor artifact with slithering star roads appears and threatens to destroy the ship.
Upon Howard's confrontation, Wake berates Howard, and Howard attacks Wake while hallucinating the mermaid, the real Winslow, and Wake as a Proteus-like figure. Howard beats Wake into submission and takes him to the hole at the base of the lighthouse to bury him alive. Wake curses Howard as he is buried, wishing him a "Promethean fate." Howard takes the keys to the lantern room, but Wake frees himself and strikes Howard with the axe.
Following the 2005 collapse of Christie Tyler, G Plan was acquired by Sofa Brands International, a holding company, alongside the Parker Knoll and Duresta upholstery brands. G Plan Cabinets was sold by Morris to Sofa Brands in 2015, and cabinet manufacturing ceased. Sofa Brands was acquired in 2015 by its management team and Promethean Investments, a private equity firm. In the same year the company moved its registered office to G Plan's Melksham address.
Little is known about the past of Rhino (voiced by Don Stark). He first appeared as hired muscle for The Kingpin, and was ordered to steal the Promethean X from John Jameson's shuttle. After Spider-Man nearly killed him in his black symbiote costume, Rhino left their battle petrified of the wall- crawler. What he lacks in intelligence, he makes up for with brute strength and a huge horn on the top of his head.
Charles J. Lumsden (born 1949) is a Canadian biologist in the Department of Medicine and Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto. He has been an early proponent of sociobiology, looking to our genetic nature to supplement culture in describing what makes us human. He wrote two influential books in collaboration with Edward O. Wilson Genes, Mind and Culture: The Coevolutionary Process. (Harvard University Press, 1981) and Promethean Fire: Reflections on the Origin of Mind (Harvard University Press, 1983).
"Promethean Curse" alludes to the ancient myth of Prometheus; Barnes is thought to be employing the curse as it pertains to "the burdens of consciousness and creativity" inflicted upon mankind when, against the demands of Zeus, Prometheus brought fire to earth. Heimdal is the Norse god that guards the frozen rainbow bridge between Asgård, where the gods live and Jotunheim (or Udgård) where the Jötnar (jætter) live. At the Norse Armageddon, Ragnarok, he will blow his horn.
In 1925, a group of nationalistic revolutionaries applied to the Bureau to establish relationships with Soviet governments in order to try to find ways of helping the homeland. The leadership delayed the examination and response to this issue. On 29 December 1926, the ARF Bureau, with four votes in favor and one against (Natalie) decided to join the Promethean Alliance, which declared the Turk as defender of the Caucasian people. The internal struggle became evident in 1928.
The flow appears to be emanating from the Promethean-type volcano. Remote sensing instruments built on the Galileo spacecraft—the Near-Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (NIMS), Solid-State Imager (SSI), Photopolarimeter-Radiometer (PPR)—collect and analyze volcanism on Io's surface. Since there are no samples collected from Io, all of the interpretations are made by studying albedo effects, morphology and/or spectral variations in Galileo data. Furthermore, Geomorphologic analysis is strictly used to study such specific planetary structures.
The 1932 Polish-Soviet mutual nonaggression pact precipitated the downfall of the Promethean movement though the Georgians continued their activities in various cultural and social organizations. The most important was the Committee of Georgia founded as early as 1921 by several Georgian intellectuals led by Sergo Qurulashvili. They had close contacts with the centers of Georgian political emigration across Europe, primarily in Paris. The Committee organized various meetings and social activities and provided material support for the Georgian émigrés.
Eight full-size computer labs, some of which are tiered, provide opportunities for students to use software and online resources for research and classroom activities. Additional subject-specific labs provide opportunities to use specialized software. Interactive electronic "Promethean Boards" were installed in nearly all classrooms; they serve as projectors for computers and can be used in a chalk-chalkboard manner. When it was built, it was the most state-of-the-art school in Frederick County.
10, No. 291, 22 October 1932, p. 1\. (See online.) In its so-called Fifth Phase in 1937, after his own ideological turnabout, he attempted to revive the broadsheet on Promethean lines, that is to say to make it unabashedly an organ "of the struggle to dismember the RussianSoviet empire into its constituent parts".Józef Łobodowski, "Fragmenty wspomnień" (Scraps of Memory), Kontakt: miesięcznik redagowany przez członków i współpracowników NSZZ Solidarność (Paris), No. 10, 1987, p. 59.
There was heightened diversionary activity in Poland by the OUN (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists), supported by both Germany and Czechoslovakia and even by Lithuania. There were many acts of expropriation and sabotage against the Polish community and government by members of OUN combat units in southeastern Poland. This in turn led to "pacification" operations by the Polish authorities against the Polish-Ukrainian community. The pacifications, Charaszkiewicz emphasizes, were never discussed in advance with Polish Promethean officials.
Hill co-organized the first gay rights organization in Houston in 1967, with Rita Wanstrom and David Patterson, the Promethean Society. Queer Nation Houston flyers. In 1975 Hill just out of prison began working for a Houston radio station KPFT-FM which he co-founded in 1968, where he hosted a show about gay issues. Sometimes the show would get calls from homophobic listeners who threatened to murder Hill, and Hill would flippantly give the threatening callers directions to the radio station studio.
Paul Taylor Dance Company's annual New York seasons have been presented at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater since 2012. Prior to that, beginning in 1977, New York City Center hosted the company's seasons, which have typically lasted three weeks, comprising 20 or so dances. Taylor created numerous formal dances, often to classical music, with complex patterning and intricate formations with tempos varying with the musical sections, from andante to allegro. Examples include Esplanade, Brandenburgs, Mercuric Tidings, Aureole, Arden Court, and Promethean Fire.
Despite Merlin's pleas and warning, Nimue crushes Vortigan's heart, killing him. This allows the darkness from within Vortigan's heart to infect her, transforming Nimue into the very first "Dark One". The Promethean Flame is extinguished to an ember, and Nimue goes on to shatter Excalibur into two pieces, in order to prevent Merlin from ending the immortality of both of them. Then, Nimue apologizes to him for her actions, but Merlin says no, that he is the one who is sorry.
The original Black Jack Justice was a one-act farce about a very, very bad day in the life of an old-time detective radio series. The show was a great success at the 2001 Toronto Fringe Festival, and led Taylor to continue under the Decoder Ring Theatre title. The next year the company returned to the Fringe with Prometheus Unplugged, a comic take on the Promethean legends in which Mankind returns to Prometheus' mountain to inform God that he does not exist.
The 3-day experience included technical events such as Robo Soccer, Mud Rally, Line Sychophant, Circuit King, Robo Wars, Electrical Junkyard, Code Caffeine etc., literary events such as Braniac, Symposium-the group discussion, Promethean fantasy-the picture declamation, Spur of the moment. All these events were aimed at strengthening the cultural and literary aspects and giving the students a platform to explore the horizons of these fields. Cultural events included Cotillion - a dance competition and A-la-mode - a fashion show.

Prometheism or Prometheanism (Polish: Prometeizm) was a political project initiated by Józef Piłsudski, statesman of the Second Polish Republic from 1918 to 1935. Its aim was to weaken the Russian Empire and its successor states, including the Soviet Union, by supporting nationalist independence movements among the major non-Russian peoples that lived within the borders of Russia and the Soviet Union.Richard Woytak, "The Promethean Movement in Interwar Poland," East European Quarterly, vol. XVIII, no. 3 (September 1984), pp. 273–78.

He only appears as a non-playable character. The role-playing game Promethean: The Created by White Wolf Publishing, focuses on beings created from human remains and animated by "the Divine Fire" who seek to attain humanity. One of the "Lineages" (groupings) of said creatures is that of the Frankensteins, who, like their namesake, are crafted from the best parts of multiple corpses and brought to life by lightning. The monster himself, going by the name John Verney, appears in some of the book's fiction and illustrations.
Spartan Ops take place six months after Halo 4s campaign. Infinity returns to Requiem, where the Prometheans and the Covenant splinter faction—led by Jul 'Mdama, who styles himself as "the Didact's Hand"—are still active. Sarah Palmer, commander of the Spartan-IVs, deploys Spartan squads to clear out Jul 'Mdama's Covenant and Promethean forces in Requiem's interior in order to set up research bases. Fireteam Crimson recovers a mysterious artifact excavated by 'Mdama's Covenant; Infinity scientist Doctor Glassman disappears after studying the device.
Palmer arrests Halsey for communicating with 'Mdama, but Halsey uses an override code to force Infinitys AI, Roland, to assist her. Halsey contacts 'Mdama to try and strike a deal, as they both want to find the Librarian; Roland breaks free of Halsey's control and summons guards to apprehend Halsey. Promethean forces invade Infinity, capture Halsey, and teleport her to 'Mdama's base. Serin Osman, head of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), orders Infinity captain Thomas Lasky to kill Halsey, but he is reluctant to do so.
International Theological Commission (2002)."Communion and stewardship: human persons created in the image of God". Christians concerns of humans "playing God" are ultimately accusations of hubris, a criticism that pride leads to moral folly, and a theme which has been interpreted from the Genesis accounts of Adam and Eve and the Tower of Babel. In these stories, God was in no real danger of losing power; however, Patrick D. Hopkins has argued that, in light of technological advancement, the hubris critique is changing into a Promethean critique.
During the Russian Civil War that followed the October Revolution of 1917, the anti-Soviet side was the White movement. Between the wars, some resistance movement, particularly in the 1920s, was cultivated by Polish intelligence in the form of the Promethean project. After Nazi Germany's attack on the Soviet Union, anti-Soviet forces were created and led primarily by Nazi Germany (see Russian Liberation Movement). In the time of the Russian Civil War, whole categories of people, such as clergy, kulaks and former Imperial Russian police, were automatically considered anti-Soviet.
Under Piłsudski, Poland maintained good relations with neighboring Romania, Hungary and Latvia. However, diplomatic relations were strained with Czechoslovakia, and worse with Lithuania. Relations with Germany and the Soviet Union varied, but during Piłsudski's tenure could, for the most part, be described as neutral. Piłsudski's Promethean programme to weaken the Soviet Union, by supporting nationalist independence movements of major non-Russian peoples dwelling in the Soviet Union, was co-ordinated from 1927 to the 1939 outbreak of World War II in Europe by the military intelligence officer, Edmund Charaszkiewicz.
Forbidden, dark, esoterically veiled knowledge is a central theme in many of Lovecraft's works. Many of his characters are driven by curiosity or scientific endeavor, and in many of his stories the knowledge they uncover proves Promethean in nature, either filling the seeker with regret for what they have learned, destroying them psychologically, or completely destroying the person who holds the knowledge. Some critics argue that this theme is a reflection of Lovecraft's contempt of the world around him, causing him to search inwardly for knowledge and inspiration.
Avengers #48-49 Upon arrival, Typhon spied an Earth vessel and attacked it. This ended up attracting the Avengers as Hercules returned with help from Zeus as being demigod the spell was not as potent and joined the battle. After Hercules defeated Typhon and disarmed him of his axe, Zeus cast Typhon into the Underworld to be placed under Pluto's care while Hercules relit the Promethean Flame.Avengers #50 Trapped within the Underworld, Typhon found an ally in Cylla, a witch who claimed to be the former oracle of Delphi.
He first lived with his family in Saint-Cloud, then in Leuville-sur-Orge. The struggle against the Bolshevik regime did not stop, Ramishvili joined the Committee for the Independence of Georgia and became an active organizer during the August Uprising, which ended unsuccessfully and was followed by mass repressions against the Georgian nobility and intellectuals.. Ramishvili was actively involved in the anti-Bolshevik Promethean movement produced by Poland. On December 7, 1930, Noe Ramishvili was assassinated by the Cheka in Paris. He was buried in Leuville cemetery.
In the same announcement, George Bell resigned and left the company completely. The company also reported first-quarter net loss of $61.6 million, compared with a loss of $4.6 million in the same period the prior year. The search engine Magellan, which Excite had purchased in 1996, was closed down in May 2001. On June 11, 2001, Excite@Home announced that it had raised $100 million in financing from Promethean Capital Management and Angelo Gordon & Co. Part of the deal was that the loan was repayable immediately if Excite@Home stock was delisted by NASDAQ.
In the basement, Emma has both the dagger and the sword, as the manifestations of both Rumplstiltskin, Nimue, and previous Dark Ones appear. She then uses the Promethean Spark she took from Nimue and fuses the dagger and the Excalibur fragment together, making the sword whole once again. Despite remembering Merlin's warning not to touch Excalibur, Emma gives in to the temptation from Nimue and the other Dark One manifestations to "take the power," and she takes control of the sword, cementing her title as the most powerful Dark One ever.
In the process, Chief is contacted by a Forerunner known as the Librarian—the wife of the Didact, as well as ancient humanity's protector. She explains that the Forerunners were divided on how best to combat the Flood. After failing to discover a way to immunize biological beings from the parasite, the Didact used a device called the Composer to convert the warriors under his command into Promethean Knights immune to infection. Requiring more soldiers, the Didact forcibly converted captured humans into Prometheans, before being stopped and imprisoned by the Librarian.
The trailer then shows John attacking Promethean Knights, before returning to the scene of him bound and being faced by his enemy, the Didact. On October 23, 2012, the Halo 4 launch gameplay trailer was revealed; it featured segments of gameplay footage from the campaign and multiplayer. In October 2012, visual effects company Framestore assisted advertising agency McCann London in producing live TV adverts for Halo 4. The adverts aired on November 9, 2012; they featured live data on how many people were playing Halo 4 online, correct to within five minutes of the broadcast.
"What makes the work so remarkable is its persuasive combination of science and fantasy: while the scale seems beyond terrestrial experience, the attention given to geological and meteorological phenomena is that of the knowledgeable observer."Albert Boime, Art in the Age of Bonapartism, 1800-1815, Chicago, University of Chicago Press, 1990; p. 123. Critics who accept the conventions of Romanticism in art have appreciated Martin's Sadak; those who do not have regarded the picture as lurid or puzzling. px Martin's Romantic style can be seen as influenced by prevailing Promethean zeitgeist.
Prometheus is a shepherd satellite for the inner edge of Saturn's narrow F Ring. Pandora orbits just outside the F Ring, and has traditionally been viewed as an outer shepherd of the ring; however, recent studies indicate that only Prometheus contributes to the confinement of the ring. Images from the Cassini probe show that the Promethean gravitational field creates kinks and knots in the F Ring as it 'steals' material from it. The orbit of Prometheus appears to be chaotic, due to a series of four 121:118 mean-motion resonances with Pandora.
The British School has air- conditioned classrooms and tutorial rooms for general teaching. The extensive use of ActivBoards (interactive Promethean boards) enables teachers to skillfully incorporate ICT into classroom teaching. They have a half Olympic sized swimming pool, an auditorium, a multi-purpose sports hall, Innovation Lounge, multi-level dedicated libraries for primary and secondary students, science labs, computer labs, music room, drama studios, a gym, two health centres, a cafeteria and a tuck shop amongst other facilities. The school has an air purification system in all indoor spaces.
Edmund Kalikst Eugeniusz Charaszkiewicz (; Poniec, 14 October 1895 – 22 December 1975, London) was a Polish military intelligence officer who specialized in clandestine warfare. Between the World Wars, he helped establish Poland's interbellum borders in conflicts over territory with Poland's neighbours. Also, for a dozen years before World War II, he coordinated Marshal Józef Piłsudski's Promethean movement, aimed at liberating the non-Russian peoples of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union—an objective that Piłsudski deemed crucial if Poland, sandwiched between Germany and the Soviet Union, were to preserve her just-regained independence.
This lack could not bode well for the Promethean effort, when every fifth Polish citizen (that is, six million people) were Ukrainian.Charaszkiewicz, 2000, pp. 66–67. Moreover, the Soviet Union sought to an equal degree to exploit Poland's internal disarray — indeed, in 1921–31, to a greater degree than the Germans. Soviet communist propaganda in Poland's Eastern Borderlands (Kresy Wschodnie), combined with a pro-Ukrainian Soviet attitude toward Soviet Ukraine, created strong pro-Soviet sentiment among Polish Ukrainians. This sentiment would persist until the subsequent mass Soviet resettlements, arrests, executions and famines of 1933–38.
Gibran was unable to sleep the night before meeting him in person to draw his portrait in April 1912 on the island of Manhattan. Gibran later told Thompson that in 'Abdu'l-Bahá he had "seen the Unseen, and been filled". Gibran began work on The Prophet in 1912, when "he got the first motif, for his Island God", whose "Promethean exile shall be an Island one." In 1928, after the death of `Abdu'l-Bahá, at a viewing of a movie of `Abdu'l-Bahá, Gibran rose to talk and proclaimed in tears an exalted station of `Abdu'l-Bahá and left the event weeping still.
Patience Wright became known in London society for her rustic American manners, which were a source of both fascination and scandal. She wore wooden shoes, kissed members of both sexes and all classes in greeting, and in general did not follow the contemporary rules of comportment for someone of her class or gender. One rumor held that she had even called the king and queen by their first names, in an outrageous breach of conduct. Her reputation for unruliness led to the nickname "The Promethean Modeler", and she gained a level of celebrity in 18th-century London.
The archetype of the Randian hero is the creative individualist. Though Rand rejected the notion that individuals have duty towards one another, her heroes are marked by an essential generosity, for the reason that they act out of compassion and empathy rather than guilt. Rand's fiction displays a self-consciously Promethean sense of life, declaring through her characters the heroic value of self-assertion in the face of the established order. Generally a Randian hero is characterized by radical individualism, moral resolution, intelligence/aptitude, self-control, emotional discipline, and (frequently, but not always) attractive physical characteristics in the eyes of other Randian heroes.
Johnston was affiliated with various progressive and left-wing organisations throughout his life. As a student in Trinity he was associated with a Marxist group, the Promethean Society, which in 1948 was part of the formation of the Irish Workers’ League, eventually becoming the Communist Party of Ireland. The International Almanac of Electoral History Table 11.1 Political Parties in Ireland since 1918, p. 228 He moved to England and joined the Connolly Association, also being part of the Communist Party of Great Britain, returned to Ireland in 1963, and, at the invitation of Cathal Goulding, involved himself with the Wolfe Tone Society in Dublin.
The protagonist is Matthew Carse, a 35-year-old former archaeologist-turned-thief in the Martian city of Jekkara. He is approached by Penkawr, who attempt to coerce Carse into helping him sell a relic stolen from a Martian tomb, the Sword of Rhiannon. Rhiannon was a legendary figure from the ancient Martian race of the Quiru who made the Promethean decision to share Quiru science with another race of Martians, the Dhuvians. Like Prometheus, his actions did not go unpunished: he was sealed in a tomb and became known to history as "The Cursed One".
The term "gaff" is a play on the real-life carnival colloquialism for "faked freaks", such as sawdust-stuffed "Fiji Mermaids" and other phony sideshow attractions. The artificially enhanced Un-Men apparently consider the natural-born freaks of Aberrance to be "fakes", i.e., "pretenders" and "nature's accidents" who pale in comparison to the Promethean creations of Anton Arcane and the next-generation Un-Men built by Arcane's first lieutenant, Cranius. Kilcrop learns that a subset of the local gaffs have formed a religious cult around the late Damien Kane, founder of Aberrance and a figure romanticized by locals as a "freak's tribune".
Giddings enrolled in the historically Black college, Howard University in 1965, to gain a sense of community that she was refused in her hometown. It was at Howard that she gained insight into her Blackness as it shaped her writing, politics, self-esteem, pride, and appearance in ways that continued after she graduated and throughout her career. It was also at Howard that Giddings launched her literary career, working on the university's newspaper beginning in her first year and subsequently becoming editor of the university's literary magazine,The Promethean, in 1967 and earning a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1969.
Aion and Gaia with four children, Roman mosaic from the third century BC The main thesis is that mankind the Earth—Gaia—are facing a turning point. Jünger leaves open whether mankind will be able to make a leap over the "time wall", or if it ultimately will be repelled by the Earth. Jünger employs a mythic view of the situation with emerging technology such as the possibility to manipulate the human genome. He argues that Gaia's true consort is not the titanic or promethean mind of scientific progress, but the mind as a cosmic power.
Abbott's compositions have been broadcast and performed in the UK, Europe, Asia and the US and featured in Australian and International music festivals including the International Alliance of Women in Music (IAWM) conference in Beijing the International Rostrum of Composers in Wroclaw, Poland, and the Melbourne, Perth and Canberra International Festivals. Abbott studied with Stuart Greenbaum, Brenton Broadstock and Linda Kouvaras at University of Melbourne, where she completed her PhD in 2008. Several of Abbott's compositions have appeared on the AMEB and ANZCA syllabi. Her compositions are published by Reed Music, Promethean Editions (NZ), the Australian Music Centre and Morton Music.
Great importance was attached to Prometheism by Section II's successive chiefs, Colonel Tadeusz Schaetzel and Colonel Tadeusz Pełczyński, and by deputy chief Lieutenant Colonel Józef Englicht. The movement's intelligence operations were directed by Edmund Charaszkiewicz. Contacts were maintained with Ukrainians and Cossacks, and with representatives of several peoples of the Caucasus: Azeris, Armenians and Georgians. In its prosecution of the Promethean agenda, Office 2 worked with official institutions such as the Institute for Study of Nationality Affairs (Instytut Badań Spraw Narodowościowych) and the Polish-Ukrainian Society (Towarzystwo Polsko- Ukraińskie) and its Polish-Ukrainian Bulletin (Biuletyn Polsko-Ukraiński), published from 1932.
A principal task of Office 2 was organizing and conducting clandestine operations outside Poland, chiefly in bordering countries, and preparing resistance cells in areas of Poland that, in the event of war, might be occupied by enemy forces. Office "B" (responsible for the East), headed in 1937–39 by Major Dąbrowski, prepared clandestine actions against the Soviet Union, conducting "Promethean operations" among non-Russian peoples (e.g. Caucasus, Tatar, Ukrainian and Cossack émigrés) and creating covert organizations at Poland's borders with Soviet Belarus and Ukraine. Office "A" (the West) was tasked with preparing and running clandestine operations against "Western" countries of interest.
Those at the Foreign Ministry and at the General Staff were not pleased with these operations, which made Promethean activities that much more difficult. A greater shock to the Prometheists, Polish and Ukrainian, however, was the death of Tadeusz Hołówko, murdered by OUN members on August 29, 1931, at Truskawiec. Charaszkiewicz is far from blaming all of Poland's difficulties with her minorities, especially the Ukrainians (who in most of southeastern interwar Poland were the majority), on external, especially German, influences. He argues that Poland had "no planned, consistent and constructive internal policy" with regard to her minorities.
Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School television studio in 1972 The school has 80 classrooms, a media center with 30 computer workstations and TV studio and media production facilities, a greenhouse, a music laboratory and choral room, two gymnasiums and a weight training room, a 900-seat auditorium, and a cafeteria that serves breakfast and lunch. B-CC also has two "firsts" among Montgomery County Public Schools - a Cyber Café, opened in March 2003, and a Language Lab, installed in the summer of 2004. In 2008, B-CC High School was equipped with 80 digital classroom Promethean boards.

An on-site Video Production Suite, equipped with a professional green screen, studio lighting, and the latest audio-visual system, allows students to explore filmography and video editing skills while developing their journalism and English communication skills. ISHCMC - American Academy's 1:1 laptop program equips students with the skills for effective communication, research, and individual project management. Technology is also integrated across the curriculum, with lessons enhanced through the use of Promethean Smart Boards, access to two computer labs and electronic research tools.
Initially supported by the Fabian Nursery and the Promethean League, and briefly by Youth House, the FPSI soon found itself without any federated organisational members. Faced with this failure, Joad and J. C. Flügel (a Freudian psychoanalyst) proposed closing the organisation. However, at the urging of Jack Coates, the AGM voted to continue on an individual membership basis. Some of those involved in the League, realising that it was not to become the umbrella for the left that it was intended to be, found their way back to the RPA and Archibald Robertson "remained active in the RPA for the rest of his life".
Niebuhr argued that to approach religion as the individualistic attempt to fulfill biblical commandments in a moralistic sense is not only an impossibility but also a demonstration of man's original sin, which Niebuhr interpreted as self-love. Through self-love man becomes focused on his own goodness and leaps to the false conclusion—one he called the "Promethean illusion"—that he can achieve goodness on his own. Thus man mistakes his partial ability to transcend himself for the ability to prove his absolute authority over his own life and world. Constantly frustrated by natural limitations, man develops a lust for power which destroys him and his whole world.
Scholars and critics offer other answers to the question of why he appeared so briefly. The literary critic Richard Chase postulated that Bulkington was the novel's "'true' Promethean and democratic hero", but one who could not play an important role because such a hero would have to resist Ahab, the novel's "false" Prometheus. He must disappear because "if he had been more a part of the story it would have been inevitable that that he should do what Starbuck can only try to do: oppose the command of Ahab and save the ship". But he is also the heroic American, the "hope of the world".
This work and Drum Dances are fast becoming standard repertoire for percussionists throughout the world. According to his publisher Promethean Editions, a new work by John Psathas is an individual, unique entity, and his music is like that of no one else. His 'sound' is difficult to define – the harmony and improvisational feel of jazz, the compelling rhythmic drive and excitement of rock music and the sustained repetitive textures of minimalism are apparent as influences, yet they combine and intermingle with something else more intangible. This undefinable quality is partly what makes his one of the most original voices in the arena of contemporary classical music in New Zealand.
Cho battles Thor, but convinces him of his innocence, and recruits him to stop Halfling and use the power to instead locate and rescue Hercules. They play into Halfling's hands by allowing him to retrieve the Book of Thoth from the Egyptian realm, but succeed in stopping him from using the full formula. Meanwhile, Delphyne escapes from her cell and, somewhat reluctantly, allies with Athena to return control of the Olympus Group to the gods, who Halfling had incapacitated by extinguishing the Promethean Flame. Cho gains true godhood, but, realizing that he is not worthy to wield it permanently, instead transfers it to the returned Hercules.

Accompanied by a two-piano version of the original Stravinsky score, The Rehearsal is a detective story complete with gangsters and kidnappings, but Taylor balanced his version with an ode to the original. In one scene a grieving mother echoes the Chosen Maiden from Nijinsky's version. This balance of old and new was widely praised, in addition to the challenging technical demands of the movement. Other well-known and highly regarded or controversial Taylor works include Big Bertha (1970), Airs (1978), Arden Court (1981), Sunset (1983), Last Look (1985), Speaking in Tongues (1988), Brandenburgs (1988), Company B (1991), Piazzolla Caldera (1996), Black Tuesday (2001), Promethean Fire (2002), and Beloved Renegade (2008).
20th century man tended to find spirituality in modern psychology rather than in traditional religion. Finally, in postmodern thought, meaning is seen as projected onto or constructed in an empty, meaningless world. > Thus the modern condition begins as a Promethean movement toward human > freedom, toward autonomy from the encompassing matrix of nature, toward > individuation from the collective, yet gradually and ineluctably the > Cartesian-Kantian condition evolves into a Kafka-Beckett-like state of > existential isolation and absurdity--an intolerable double bind leading to a > kind of deconstructive frenzy.Richard Tarnas, "Epilogue", The Passion of the > Western Mind: Understanding the Ideas that Have Shaped Our World > Viewgaiamind.
General aesthetic improvements included painting and installation of new signage and a large MMS tile pattern is now a part of the floor at the main entrance. The library, gymnasium, and auditorium have all been updated as well with new HVAC, carpeting and flooring, and also technology. Many classrooms feature Active Whiteboards from Promethean that augment the district's Focus 2020 model implemented in 2015, where students in the middle and high schools will have access to personal devices in the classroom to be used for purposes of educational enrichments. Students in 6th grade will receive iPads which they will use up until they graduate in 8th grade.
Computer labs are equipped with iMacs and there is at least one computer in every classroom (typically a Dell, running windows). All classrooms in Goldstein are also equipped with Promethean Smart Boards. Teachers in Goldstein use the school's website to post homework, LMGHS Classes and Homework but also use other websites such as blogs for posting homework and other assignments. LMG also offers to all students the opportunity to join a completely student run technology service organization and programming club which assist school administration and staff in maintaining/repairing computer equipment; students, in addition, regularly aid in the maintenance of school information systems and other IT infrastructure.
At Henderson High school, the Promethean torchlight award was given to a chemistry teacher, Sam M. This grant was awarded to only ten classrooms in the entire United States of America. This grant provides the classroom with many state-of-the-art equipment features, including the ActivWand, Expressions, and other technology. For the third consecutive year, the West Chester Area School District has received the top rating of "Gold Medal District" by Expansion Management Magazine in its annual Education Quotient issue. This year's rating places the school district among the top 17 percent of all public secondary school districts in the United States with an enrollment of at least 3,300 students.
On the outbreak of the Russo-Japanese War (1904–1905), in the summer of 1904, Piłsudski traveled to Tokyo, Japan, where he tried unsuccessfully to obtain that country's assistance for an uprising in Poland. He offered to supply Japan with intelligence in support of its war with Russia, and proposed the creation of a Polish Legion from Poles, conscripted into the Russian Army, who had been captured by Japan. He also suggested a "Promethean" project directed at breaking up the Russian Empire, a goal that he later continued to pursue. Meeting with Yamagata Aritomo, he suggested that starting a guerrilla war in Poland would distract Russia and asked for Japan to supply him with weapons.
Back at Granny's, Emma takes part of the Promethean Flame and ionizes it, before she thrusts both halves of Excalibur into the flame to reunite the blade. However, the cut from Excalibur that Hook received reappears, causing him to bleed and collapse. Emma catches holds him and tells him that she's not ready to let him go, but Hook tells her that it's okay and wants to see her reunite Excalibur before he dies. As Emma desperately searches for a way to save Hook, Merlin tells her that there's nothing she can do to heal a wound from Excalibur (which was forged to cut immortal ties), and Regina and Emma's parents tell her that Merlin's right.
One of Cohen’s major pre-occupations is the impact of de-industrialisation on working class community in Britain, especially on its cultures of masculinity and manual labour. His approach to labour history focuses on the split representation of the labouring body into Promethean and abject images, and how this in turn positions communities of labour as either backbones of the nation or a race apart. He argues that these fundamental binaries can either cut across or reinforce more familiar distinctions of occupational skill and moral status. In some of his research he has traced the evolution of these representations within specific social groups especially those who perform ‘elemental’ labour: miners, tunnellers, sweeps, mariners, foundry workers and roustabouts.
Active diplomatic contacts developed between the short-lived DRG and Poland was part of Józef Piłsudski's well-known political concept known as Prometheism. Its aim was to greatly reduce the power of the Russian Empire and subsequently, the Soviet Union, by supporting nationalist independence movements of the major non-Russian peoples that lived within the borders of Russia or the Soviet Union. Polish and Georgian officers serving in the Polish Army, 1925 The Georgian Promethean groups were one of the most active within the movement. This was not overlooked by the Bolsheviks, who in 1930 organized the assassination of Noe Ramishvili, a prominent Georgian political leader and a major promoter of Prometheism.
Crumb abandoned the character the same year as the Ballantine collection, but previously unpublished stories appeared in Promethean Enterprises No. 3 & 4 in 1971 and Artistic Comics (Golden Gate Publishing Company) in 1973. "Fritz the Cat 'Superstar'" — featuring the death of the character — was the last new story released; it was published in The People's Comics (Golden Gate) in 1972. In 1978, Bélier Press published The Complete Fritz the Cat, which brought together all the published stories featuring Fritz, as well as previously unpublished drawings and unfinished comics. At the artist's request, a 10-page story drawn in 1964 and previously published in R. Crumb's Comics and Stories (Rip Off Press) in 1969 was excluded from this collection.
He is a Distinguished Supporter of Humanists UK. His recent books with Hilary Rose include Alas Poor Darwin: Arguments against Evolutionary Psychology, in 2012, Genes, Cells and Brains: the Promethean promises of the new biology (Verso), described by Guardian reviewer Steven Poole as 'fascinating, lucid and angry' with a 'lethally impressive hit ratio' and most recently Can Neuroscience Change Our Minds? (Polity, 2016). His audio-autobiography forms part of the British Library's National Life Stories Collection of distinguished scientists.
The authors (and anthologist Gardner Dozois) were all recipients of multiple industry awards and/or nominations, and were: > weighted towards hard SF, but contain two fantasies (one secondary world, > one historical), one sci-fantasy or soft SF, and an anthology of stories > examining the very Promethean struggle of science vs. superstition. Those, Anders stated, were "highly reflective" of his subsequent intentions as editor, which he says are similar to those of Robert Silverberg, effectively "pruning" science fiction to its relevant core. Anders is particularly proud to have brought John Meaney to American attention. Pyr's published authors also include Michael Moorcock, Alan Dean Foster, Adam Roberts, Mike Resnick, Justina Robson, Joe Abercrombie, and Ian McDonald.

Although Pisarev was among those who celebrated the embrace of nihilism, the term realism may have done away with the connotations of subjectivism and nothingness that burdened nihilism while retaining the rejection of metaphysics, sophistry, sentimentalism, and aestheticism. In a notably later political climate, Alexander Herzen instead presented nihilism as a product of the that the had adopted. Contemporary scholarship has challenged the equating of Russian nihilism with mere skepticism, instead identifying it with the fundamentally character of the nihilist movement. In fact, the nihilists sought to liberate the Promethean might of the Russian people which they saw embodied in a class of prototypal individuals, or new types in their own words.
The latter Society included such experts on East European affairs as Leon Wasilewski, Stanisław Łoś and Stanisław Stempowski, and its founder and prime mover as well as the Bulletin's editor was Włodzimierz Bączkowski, a leading figure in the "Promethean movement." From March 1934 Charaszkiewicz was a member of the Commission for Scientific Study of [Poland's] Eastern Lands (Komisja Naukowych Badań Ziem Wschodnich) and the Committee on [Poland's] Eastern Lands and Nationalities (Komitet do Spraw Ziem Wschodnich i Narodowościowych) at the Council of Ministers. He had already become a spokesman for the oppressed peoples east of Poland who wished to deepen their national self-awareness and groom leaders for their liberation.Andrzej Grzywacz et al.
On older tablets, changing the pressure on the stylus nib or pressing a button changed the properties of the LC circuit, affecting the signal generated by the pen, which modern ones often encode into the signal as a digital data stream. By using electromagnetic signals, the tablet is able to sense the stylus position without the stylus having to even touch the surface, and powering the pen with this signal means that devices used with the tablet never need batteries. Activslate 50, the model used with Promethean white boards, also uses a hybrid of this technology. ; Active tablets: Active tablets differ in that the stylus used contains self-powered electronics that generate and transmit a signal to the tablet.

This kind of match was quite expensive, however, and its use was also relatively dangerous, so Chancel's matches never really became widely adopted or in commonplace use. This approach to match making was further refined in the proceeding decades, culminating with the 'Promethean Match' that was patented by Samuel Jones of London in 1828. His match consisted of a small glass capsule containing a chemical composition of sulfuric acid colored with indigo and coated on the exterior with potassium chlorate, all of which was wrapped up in rolls of paper. The immediate ignition of this particular form of a match was achieved by crushing the capsule with a pair of pliers, mixing and releasing the ingredients in order for it to become alight.
In general, ancient Greek tragedy - not only the lost Promethean trilogy - has been used by Sikelianos for the rendering of other persons through an implicit link with characters of ancient drama (Emperor Michael III, Monk Hilarion). The scene with the impious communion of Digenis is considered to be the centre of the play (some Orthodox symbols are being declared void in a "blasphemous" way – for example the cross, the symbolism of which is sought to change from a symbol of martyrdom into a "tree of life", set in a natural habitat of unsurpassed beauty, which is also the set for the death of Digenis. Perhaps this is a way to demonstrate the heretical thought of the Paulicians).Θεόδωρος Ξύδης, «Οι τραγωδίες του Σικελιανού», περ.
Penderecki explained this shift by stating that he had come to feel that the experimentation of the avant- garde had gone too far from the expressive, non-formal qualities of Western music: 'The avant-garde gave one an illusion of universalism. The musical world of Stockhausen, Nono, Boulez and Cage was for us, the young – hemmed in by the aesthetics of socialist realism, then the official canon in our country – a liberation...I was quick to realise however, that this novelty, this experimentation, and formal speculation, is more destructive than constructive; I realised the Utopian quality of its Promethean tone'. Penderecki concluded that he was 'saved from the avant-garde snare of formalism by a return to tradition'. Penderecki has written relatively little chamber music.

In 2004, Newman published Promethean Ambitions, a work that explores alchemy’s important role as a focus for the widespread debate about the powers of art and nature in Western culture. His Atoms and Alchemy, which argues that medieval and early modern alchemy were fundamental sources for the mechanical philosophy of the 17th century, as well as for the approach to matter theory that Newman dubs "chymical atomism," appeared in 2006.Newman, "The Significance of 'Chymical Atomism'," in Sylla and Newman, eds.
The chapter is divided in two sections: the first one, Some challenges of today’s world, deals with economic matters, poverty, and modern culture. It also mentions the new religious movements and moral relativism. The second section, Temptations faced by pastoral workers, describes two errors commonly faced by Christians: first the "attraction of Gnosticism" that offers "a faith whose only interest is a certain experience or a set of ideas and bits of information"; the second is "the self-absorbed promethean neopelagianism" of those who "feel superior to others because they observe certain rules or remain intransigently faithful to a particular Catholic style from the past" with "a narcissistic and authoritarian elitism". He also noted that "In some people we see an ostentatious preoccupation for the liturgy".
Three weeks before the Present, Hook thinks that Merlin is not helping Emma at all, as Hook sees her making Dreamcatchers instead of sleeping now (she cannot sleep and is making dreamcatchers instead; Dark Ones do not need sleep). But Merlin tells Hook that he is doing his best to help her, as he knows what it means to lose a loved one to the Dark One. Merlin tells the residents they need to acquire Excalibur from Arthur, while he takes Emma with him to the site of the Promethean Flame to acquire the spark needed to reunite Excalibur's halves. Before they go on their mission, Hook gives Emma a necklace with a ring as reminder of their love, and as a keepsake.
Prometheanism is a term popularized by the political theorist John Dryzek to describe an environmental orientation which perceives the Earth as a resource whose utility is determined primarily by human needs and interests and whose environmental problems are overcome through human innovation. The term was introduced in Dryzek's work, The Politics of the Earth: Environmental Discourses (1997). In contrast with other environmental perspectives, Prometheanism prioritizes human interests and needs over those of ecosystems (as with deep ecology) or the individual needs of creatures (as in eco- feminism). In his 1992 book Green Delusions: An Environmentalist Critique of Radical Environmentalism, Martin Lewis offered one of the first systematic comparisons of how Promethean environmentalism differs from traditional Arcadian forms of environmentalism such as deep ecology.
He explains that the title refers to Prometheus bound by his chains, quotes Shelley's preface to Prometheus Unbound and says the contributors believe that "the Promethean fire of enlightenment, which should be given for the benefit of mankind at large, is being used at present to stoke up the furnaces of private profit". The contributors were: Rex Warner, Edward Upward, Arthur Calder-Marshall, Barbara Nixon, Anthony Blunt, Alan Bush, Charles Madge, Alistair Brown, J. D. Bernal, T. A. Jackson and Edgell Rickword. After the late 1930s, which were marked by the widespread purges, repression, and executions under Josef Stalin in the Soviet Union, Day-Lewis gradually became disillusioned with communism. In his autobiography, The Buried Day (1960), he renounces former communist views.
The Chetniks were presented as deceitful and untrustworthy whose combat value was minimal, while notable examples of brave individuals which were impossible to ignore were neutralized by exerting the Chetniks' betrayal as their persistent behaviour. The Partisans were depicted as heroically brave with almost perfect characteristics who had a role of Promethean heroes whose enemies, before all Chetniks, were forces whose role was menace. The communist interpretation of the conflict with Yugoslav royalists was symbol of defeat of "counter- revolution", "reaction" and "traitors", particularly because this conflict reached its maximum on 7 November 1941 when communists in Čačak organized celebration of the anniversary of the October Revolution. In Chetnik interpretation of conflict with Partisans, Deroko received the fame of new Tanasko Rajić.
Signs of national renaissance also appeared in Idel-Ural and Turkestan; there, however, it was limited to the calling of "National Assemblies."Charaszkiewicz, 2000, pp. 59–60. Poland's role in the Promethean process was marked by the conclusion of a Polish–Ukrainian political and military alliance (the Warsaw Agreement, April 1920) with Symon Petlura's Ukrainian People's Republic, Piłsudski's expedition to Kiev (begun April 25, 1920), the designation (February 1919) of Bohdan Kutylowski as Polish minister to the Ukrainian People's Republic, the accreditation of a Polish minister to Caucasus, the naming of a military mission to Caucasus, and the Crimean Republic's motion at the League of Nations (May 17, 1920) that Crimea be made a protectorate of Poland.Charaszkiewicz, 2000, p. 60.
In the same announcement, the outgoing chairman George Bell resigned and left the company completely. The news was not good, as the company also reported a first-quarter net loss of $61.6 million, or 15 cents per share, on revenue of $142.8 million compared with a loss of $4.6 million, or 1 cent, on revenue of $138 million in the same period the prior year. Excite@Home headquarters for sale. The buildings have since been re-purposed as a medical facility On June 11, 2001, Excite@Home announced what it had raised $100 million in fresh financing from Promethean Capital Management and Angelo Gordon & Co. Part of the deal not widely disclosed was that the loan was repayable immediately if Excite@Home stock was delisted by Nasdaq.
Comics historian Les Daniels noted that "Williamson's atmospheric technique, which relied on subtle textures as much as hard lines, was not typical of traditional DC art" and that editor Joe Orlando "got complaints from the production department" over using Williamson'a art. He drew various Flash Gordon illustrations. In the burgeoning fan movement, Williamson became an early subject of comics historians with the publication of Jim Vadeboncoeur's Al Williamson: His Work in 1971Vadeboncoeur, Jim. In his first novel, Vazhiyum Niazhalum (The Road and the shadow), Varkey employed the stream-of- consciousness technique in telling the love story of a widow. Reviewer Dr. Radhakrishnan writes about one of his other novels, Sooryante Maranam (The Death of the Sun), in the Indian Express: "…depicts both Promethean defiance and Sisyphean despair." Renowned critic Dr. K. M. Tharakan praises Mulmaram (The Thorny Tree), Varkey's next important novel, as the "story of a man, a village and an epoch in the history of Kerala". Chhaya (The Shadow), Varkey's award-winning novel, is "the tale of a human being whose inner self is tragically split into pieces like shattered glass, expounding the unique features of abnormal psychology, in particular the multiple personality…", writes senior critic Dr. M. Leelavathy.
Thor #129 Ares fought a duel with Hercules, forming an alliance with the Enchantress to make Hercules her slave and ally against the Avengers using water from the Spring of Eros, which led to Hercules being exiled from Olympus for a year.Avengers #38 Ares organized the Warhawks, which included Satyrs whose pipes caused violence in humans, and with them battled the Avengers. He dispatched Kratos and Bia to capture Hercules. After allying with the Enchantress again, he used the Black Knight's Ebony Blade to quench the Promethean Flame and conquer Olympus, by turning all the other Olympians to crystal, although Hercules was not transformed, but exiled to Earth with amnesia, due to being brutally beaten by Ares' henchman the Yellow-crested Titans and drifting between Olympus and Earth for six days and nights.
Seeing the whole work as an obscure elder sibling to T. S. Eliot's The Waste Land, literary scholar Richard Chase has argued that the "sterility of modern life is the central symbolic idea of the poem", and that, after the "extremities of titanism in Pierre", Melville reached the culmination of his later thought: "the core of the high Promethean hero". These remarks paved the way for a generation of critics who saw the poem as the crucial document of Melville's later years, such as Ronald Mason, who reads the poem as "a contemplative recapitulation of all Melville's imaginative life", and Newton Arvin, who calls it "Melville's great novel of ideas in verse".Bezanson (1960), pp. xlvii-xlviii Melville's centennial epic is also his most direct commentary on the era of Reconstruction.
Player character Master Chief attacks an enemy Promethean Knight with an assault rifle in Halo 4s campaign mode Halo 4 is a shooter game in which players predominantly experience gameplay from a first-person perspective; the game perspective switches to third-person when using certain weapons, abilities and vehicles. The player's head-up display (HUD) shows real-time information on the player character's armor system, such as shield status, information on current weapons and abilities, and waypoints for goals and objectives. The HUD also has a motion tracker that detects allies, enemies, and vehicles within a certain radius of the player. The game sees the return of the alien species who were formerly members of the Covenant as foes, and introduces a new type of enemy called the Prometheans, which are Forerunner A.I constructs.
In July 1924 he was posted to the Office of the Inner War Council (Ścisła Rada Wojenna). In May 1927 he began service in the Second Department of Polish General Staff (the intelligence section) as chief of the Information Department (Wydział Ewidencyjny). In January 1929 he was appointed chief of Section II. From March 1932 to September 1935 he commanded the 5th Legions' Infantry Regiment (5 Pułk Piechoty Legionów) in Wilno (it was part of the elite 1st Legions Infantry Division), then returned to again head Section II. As chief of the Second Department of Polish General Staff, Pełczyński, like his predecessor Colonel Tadeusz Schaetzel and like deputy chief Lt. Col. Józef Englicht, was very supportive of Marshal Józef Piłsudski's Promethean project, aimed at liberating the non-Russian peoples of the Soviet Union.
As passionate advocates of negation, the nihilists sought to liberate the Promethean might of the Russian people which they saw embodied in a class of prototypal individuals, or new types in their own words. These individuals, according to Pisarev, in freeing themselves from all authority become exempt from moral authority as well, and are distinguished above the rabble or common masses. Later interpretations of nihilism were heavily influenced by works of anti-nihilistic literature, such as those of Fyodor Dostoevsky, which arose in response to Russian nihilism. "In contrast to the corrupted nihilists [of the real world], who tried to numb their nihilistic sensitivity and forget themselves through self-indulgence, Dostoevsky's figures voluntarily leap into nihilism and try to be themselves within its boundaries", writes contemporary scholar Nishitani.
He along with Sarah Charles, and T. O. Morrow go in "The Red Room" in S.T.A.R. labs which contains every piece of technology from around the world. Silas attempts to treat Victor with something that has never been attempted before and he is seen injecting Victor with some type of nanites and having Dr. Morrow put the robotic pieces on Victor (devices such as: a Promethean skin graft, Doctor William Magnus' responsometer, Anthony Ivo's A-maze operating system, The classified and prototypical B-maze operating system and Ryan Choi's White Dwarf Stabilizer). Vic's life is saved and the energies from the Mother Box are incorporated into his new form as Cyborg. This allows Victor to access the vast New Gods data library and discover Darkseid's true invasion plans.
Though Sinfonietta Stravagante (1964), performed by the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Hubert Soudant, and Sinfonia Concertante (1966), performed by the Northern Sinfonia and conductor Bryden Thomson, followed in rapid succession, Whettam did not continue to have the success of his youth; several of his works were premiered/published some time after their composition (cf. below), and some of his later works (such as the Promethean Symphony and the Symphony No. 5) still wait for a world premiere. Regarded as "a natural symphonist" by the Sunday Times, the dozen symphonies he composed between his mid-twenties and death form the core of Whettam's output. However, he also contributed some large-scale concertos, several shorter orchestral (both symphonic and concertante) works, numerous chamber and instrumental works (such as four string quartets and three solo violin sonatas), as well as vocal and choral works.
In particular, Poland was in no position to resume Piłsudski's effort to build an Intermarium federation of Poland and some of its neighbors; and a "Promethean" endeavor to "break up the Russian state into its main constituents and emancipate the countries that have been forcibly incorporated into that empire."Quoted in For a decade after World War II, Piłsudski was either ignored or condemned by Poland's communist government, along with the entire interwar Second Polish Republic. This began to change, however, particularly after de-Stalinization and the Polish October (1956), and historiography in Poland gradually moved away from a purely negative view of Piłsudski toward a more balanced and neutral assessment. After the fall of communism and the 1991 disintegration of the Soviet Union, Piłsudski once again came to be publicly acknowledged as a Polish national hero.
In "The Mathematics of Magic", the second of Fletcher Pratt and L. Sprague de Camp's Harold Shea stories, the modern American adventurers Harold Shea and Reed Chalmers visit the world of The Faerie Queene, where they discover that the greater difficulties faced by Spenser's knights in the later portions of the poem are explained by the evil enchanters of the piece having organized a guild to more effectively oppose them. Shea and Chalmers reveal this conspiracy to the knights and assist in its overthrow. In the process, Belphebe and Florimel of Faerie become respectively the wives of Shea and Chalmers and accompany them on further adventures in other worlds of myth and fantasy. A considerable part of Elizabeth Bear's "Promethean Age" series takes place in a Kingdom of Faerie which is loosely based on the one described by Spenser.
The College continued to expand, acquiring the Library and Information Management program in 2000 and offering a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) In 2008, the College of Education became one of the few named colleges of education in the country, becoming the Morgridge College of education after the Morgridge Family. The Morgridge College of Education received a new home in 2011 at the corner of Evan St. and High St. on the west side of the University of Denver campus. The new building houses state of the art technology to allow students to get the most out of their time at MCE. Some technologies include, SmartBoard or Promethean Boards in all classrooms, collaborative work stations throughout the building, a centralized control room and Crestron control panels in all classroom and boardrooms to aid in the use of all technologies.
He carried us off on the surging billow of his > inspiration and cast us into the world." Edward Henry Lewinski Corwin described Mickiewicz's works as Promethean, as "reaching more Polish hearts" than the other Polish Bards, and affirmed Danish critic Georg Brandes' assessment of Mickiewicz's works as "healthier" than those of Byron, Shakespeare, Homer, and Goethe. Koropeckyi writes that Mickiewicz has "informed the foundations of [many] parties and ideologies" in Poland from the 19th century to this day, "down to the rappers in Poland's post-socialist blocks, who can somehow still declare that 'if Mickiewicz was alive today, he'd be a good rapper.'" While Mickiewicz's popularity has endured two centuries in Poland, he is less well known abroad, but in the 19th century he had won substantial international fame among "people that dared resist the brutal might of reactionary empires.
A bronze Prometheus Bound (1845) by Belgian artist Paul Bouré, who once studied with Guillaume Geefs But the most apparent departure from L'ange du mal is the placing of Lucifer in bondage, with his right ankle and left wrist chained. In 19th-century reinterpretations of ancient Greek and Christian myths, Lucifer was often cast as a Promethean figure, drawing on a tradition that the fallen angel was chained in Hell just as the Titan had been chained and tortured on the rock by Zeus: "The same Prometheus who is taken as an analogue of the crucified Christ is regarded also as a type of Lucifer," wrote Harold Bloom in remarks on Mary Shelley's 19th-century classic Frankenstein, subtitled The Modern Prometheus.Harold Bloom, 1965 afterword republished in the Signet Classic 2000 edition of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, p. 201 online.
Other Skyfathers suggest Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America, but Athena states that Cho will save the world. Subsequently, upon Vali Halfling's capture of the Olympus Group headquarters, Athena is severely weakened by the snuffing of the Promethean Flame, and is then captured by Halfling's men upon returning to the Olympus Group from the panicked Council of Godheads. Delphyne Gorgon, who escaped her cell, at first confronted Athena, but was then convinced to help her defeat Halfling's men and attempt to locate the Flame. Following Cho and Delphyne's defeat of Halfling, the Flame is restored by Cho's new divine powers and Athena returns to her full power, released from captivity, just as the Chaos King Amatsu-Mikaboshi prepares to invade Earth, destroy every trace of life in the Marvel Universe, mortal and immortal, and annihilate all reality at long last in his devastating Chaos War.
The Vault Hunters help Rhys and his subordinates, Zer0 and Lorelei, to temporarily stall the attack, after which Rhys directs them to the planet Athenas where the Promethean Vault Key is safely kept. On Athenas, the Vault Hunters help Maya and her apprentice Ava fend off more COV and Maliwan forces to recover the Key, learning it is only one-third of the complete artifact. Maya and Ava join the Crimson Raiders as they return to Promethea, disable Maliwan's orbital laser cannon which is powered by the second part of the Key, and help kill Katawaga Jr. during a final assault on Atlas HQ. Rhys provides them with the last part of the Key and directs them to the buried Vault. Maya and the Vault Hunters race the COV to the Promethea Vault, where they encounter and defeat the Rampager, a massive alien beast held within the Vault.
According to Jacques Sémelin, "communist systems emerging in the twentieth century ended up destroying their own populations, not because they planned to annihilate them as such, but because they aimed to restructure the 'social body' from top to bottom, even if that meant purging it and recarving it to suit their new Promethean political imaginaire". Daniel Chirot and Clark McCauley write that, especially in Stalin's Soviet Union, Mao's China and Pol Pot's Cambodia, a fanatical certainty that socialism could be made to work motivated communist leaders in "the ruthless dehumanization of their enemies, who could be suppressed because they were 'objectively' and 'historically' wrong. Furthermore, if events did not work out as they were supposed to, then that was because class enemies, foreign spies and saboteurs, or worst of all, internal traitors were wrecking the plan. Under no circumstances could it be admitted that the vision itself might be unworkable, because that meant capitulation to the forces of reaction".
His sophomore effort Promethean (Posi-Tone Records) was released in May 2017 featuring sidemen Yashushi Nakamura on bass and Mark Whitfield, Jr. on drums. Brian Zimmerman of DownBeat gave the album received an Editors’ Choice review lauding Hill's “formidable piano chops and probing arrangements make [the] album such a winning statement.” Hill's latest album, Interstellar Adventures (Posi-Tone Records), was released in June 2018 and features Rudy Royston on drums and Rashaan Carter on bass. It received a 4 1/2 star rating from DownBeat a four star review from All About Jazz which noted Hill's "steady, determined ascent into the contemporary ranks of vital and inspired jazz pianists", and the July 2018 issue of The New York City Jazz Record observed that "[t]here’s not a weak spot on the record", complimented Royston and Carter as a "phenomenal" rhythm section, and noted that Rashaan Carter is "a real under-the-radar master".
The work focuses on the last moments of Digenis Akritas. Sikelianos uses the acritic cycle (frontiersmen tales) for the historical material (i.e. the conditions and some historical figures of the time, such as the Byzantine Emperors Michael III and Basil I) and the image of Digenis, whom he places as leader of a heretic group of paulician warriors, adjusting and transforming the historical material according to his own dramaturgical and ideological objectives (particularly the importance of the hero's tomb and other relevant issues). Mainly due to its second name, this tragedy has been associated with the third part of the lost Promethean trilogy by Aeschylus, Prometheus Unbound, with Digenis being presented by Sikelianos with the same characteristics: a social and cultural fighter - revolutionary for the good of the people – Prometheus, more or less, offers culture to mankind – a hero that links Christ and Prometheus, while there are other scholars’ opinions that consider Hercules top have served as a model, as well as Oedipus (mainly in relation to the issue of the initiation of the hero and his death - as the return to Mother Earth).
