The book revolves around her being created by Margolotte and brought to life by the magic substance called the Powder of Life, that was created by Margolotte's husband Dr. Pipt. She was filled with a mixture of character traits. Originally intended to be an unquestioning humble slave, she comes to life as a rather zany acrobatic person with a tendency to break into spontaneous poetry, all thanks to Ojo the Unlucky messing with the formula for her "brain furniture" and joining the adventure to find an antidote for petrification.

After the abolishment of the Law of the Moon, Zephys left her body for the Ocean half and Sielene become unconscious. After being escorted back to the Croconesia, she came back to her senses and have a walk with Luna on the land for the first and only time. She was astonished and happy to see that her daughter has become stronger and kinder than before she walked on the land. In the final battle with Zephys, Sielene choose to sacrifice herself to reinstate the Law of the Moon in the Aventurine Temple, which has become her resting place because the slab in the Petrification Island stated that the one who commit a sin must atone for it inside the temple walls.

The Merry Maidens The local myth about the creation of the stones suggests that nineteen maidens were turned into stone as punishment for dancing on a Sunday. (Dans Maen translates as Stone Dance.) The Pipers, two megaliths some distance north-east of the circle, are said to be the petrified remains of the musicians who played for the dancers. A more detailed story explains why the Pipers are so far from the Maidens – apparently the two pipers heard the church clock in St Buryan strike midnight, realised they were breaking the Sabbath, and started to run up the hill away from the maidens who carried on dancing without accompaniment. These petrification legends are often associated with stone circles, as is reflected in the folk names of some of the nearby sites, for example, the Tregeseal Dancing Stones, the Nine Maidens of Boskednan, as well as the more distant Hurlers and Pipers on Bodmin Moor.
