She was chased briefly by the U.S. Navy sloop-of- war as she left the mouth of the river but quickly outdistanced Vincennes. At the end of a six-week voyage in which many of the captives died, Wanderer arrived at Jekyll Island, Georgia, on 28 November 1858 and delivered her human cargo. Word of Wanderers arrival quickly spread, and a great deal of litigation ensued—both civil and criminal—but resulted in no convictions.

Jacques Boutault is running for municipal elections in the second arrondissement of Paris in 2001 with a program focused on improving traffic, social housing, setting up organic and vegetarian menus in school canteens, working with associations . On 11 March 2001, he won 16.78% of the vote in the borough. He was outdistanced by the socialist candidate Pierre Schapira, who nevertheless withdrew, according to the Parisian electoral agreement of reciprocal withdrawal with the socialist party. Both lists merge into a new one, led by Boutault who then wins the election in the second round by 300 votes ahead of the list of outgoing mayor, Benoîte Taffin.

Dido, the leading British ship, sent coded signals to the French, who failed to answer, confirming their nationality. As the British advanced, the French tacked away, and rapidly outdistanced the British ships. At 08:00 however with visibility improving, the diminutive size of the British ships became apparent and the French squadron turned back and bore down on Dido and Lowestoffe. At 08:30, Minerve was close enough to Dido to fire a broadside, although Towry elected not to return fire until Minerve had closed further. By 08:45 he had successfully manoeuvered into a position in front of Perrée's bow and fired at close range.

At 20:00, Troude ordered Hautpoult to steer to the northwest while he took Courageux and Polonais southwest in an effort to divide the pursuit. Pompee and Recruit kept with Hautpoult, while Neptune, accompanied by the brig HMS Hawk continued to follow Troude's main force. During the night however Troude outdistanced Neptune, and on the morning of 16 April Cochrane ordered all available ships to converge on Hautpoult. After her candidacy was made official by the FN nomination committee, she then campaigned in this constituency which includes the southern part of Carpentras. In the first round of the presidential elections, Marine Le Pen had achieved her highest national performance in Vaucluse (27.03%) and most notably in this constituency (31.50%) where she outdistanced the UMP incumbent president Nicolas Sarkozy (27.60%). In the run-off on 17 June 2012, she defeated the incumbent MP Jean-Michel Ferrand who had continuously sat in the National Assembly for twenty-six years (Rally for the Republic: 1986–2002, Union for a Popular Movement: 2002–2012).

The two tanks gradually outdistanced the infantry that had started with them but moved no more than another before the leading tank was hit by a rocket launcher round and ran off the steep edge of the road and overturned. The following tank attempted to pass but was hit in the engine compartment by a grenade or mortar round and capsized off the opposite side of the road. To the rear, following the same westward drift to escape fire coming in from the left of the road, Lieutenant Mace, the two infantry squads, and a number of South Koreans took cover in the ground on the right. The group moved south after daylight toward the 3rd Battalion, 38th Infantry, but became scattered during several small skirmishes with PVA forces. The survivors, including Mace, finally reached the 3rd Battalion around 09:30.

Gaumont describes his use of pot belge during a seven-hour training ride of the Cofidis team in the mountains at Arcalis in 1997, where he easily outdistanced the team's climbers thanks to the drug. After that, he became dependent on the pot belge for training: "Dès que j'étais mal dans ma peau, je prenais du pot belge" (translation: "I'd use pot belge as soon as I didn't feel so good").
