While still in high school, Lloyd Price was working for New Orleans radio station WBOK. He provided jingles (music for radio advertisements) for various products, including those hawked by disc jockey James "Okey Dokey" Smith. One of Smith's catch phrases was "Lawdy Miss Clawdy",Dawson, Propes 1992, p. 110. "Lawdy" phonetically approximates the pronunciation of "Lordy" in New Orleans patois.

The specific computers used in the weather map display system are two Macintosh IIvx computers built in 1992, a Macintosh LC III from 1993, a Macintosh Centris 610 from 1994 and two Power Macintosh 8500 computers built in 1995 that display animated weather maps. Software includes Okey Dokey Pro, Cron, JPEGView, and Applescript. QuickTime Pro is used for the animated weather map display.

According to the Y'all story, Steven was born and raised on a farm in Kornflake, Indiana. Jay's character was the son of a tent revival preacher in Okey-Dokey, Texas. They met in New York City's downtown theater scene in May 1992 and almost immediately started making up songs together and singing in harmony for fun at parties or on their East Village stoop. In August 1992, three months after they met, they played together in public for the first time.

Producer Golan (using his pen name "Joseph Goldman") then made a minor polish to Cohen's rewrite.

The series ended in 1941 with Vitamin Hay. After Famous Studios succeeded Fleischer Studios in 1942, they revived the Spunky character alone for three cartoons in their Noveltoons series, Yankee Doodle Donkey (1944), Boo Kind To Animals (1955) and Okey Dokey Donkey (1958), with the latter featuring a simplified drawing style. A positive contemporary review of Hunky and Spunky in Film Daily praised the short for introducing "funny new characters", and stated that the short's device of having the animals speak in "donkey talk" "will amuse the kids".(July 1, 1938).
