In the late 1970s, local residents Jerry Gentry and Annie Potter began a mail-order business from their home in Big Sandy and called it Annie's Attic. The business grew rapidly into a multimillion-dollar enterprise, publishing magazines and catalogs for needlecraft enthusiasts. Smith, p. 270. A decree by the Ministry of Education in 1881 prohibited coeducation in secondary schools necessitating the foundation of a separate high school for girls (the Mädchenschule) in 1895. My Body My Rules (2015) is a three-minute animated film aimed at raising awareness of female genital mutilation (FGM) amongst primary school aged children in the UK. The film was developed as a visual aid to help facilitate sessions on FGM in primary schools in the UK and for use by professionals and non-governmental organizations working with younger children at risk of FGM. It was developed by Foundation for Women's Health, Research and Development (FORWARD) and Animage, and animated by Daniel Greaves, an Academy Award winning animator. My Body My Rules was adapted from a previous animated short by FORWARD and Animage on the subject of FGM in the UK, entitled Needlecraft. Funded by Comic Relief and the Sigrid Rausing Trust, and intended for the general public and professional audience, Needlecraft was launched on the web in June 2015.

Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion de la Concordia was established by Doña Margarita Roxas de Ayala by converting her three-and-a-half hectare villa, the La Concordia Estate in Paco, Manila, into a school. She requested eight nuns from the Daughters of Charity from Spain to come to the Philippines to administer the school. They arrived on May 3, 1868 and operated the free school or 'Escuela Pia'. Sixty students enrolled and were taught religion, good manners, reading and writing, simple arithmetic, culture, and arts like sewing, embroidery, cooking, needlecraft and household work.

All that is known of Rykener's life comes from the answers given during the interrogation in the Lord Mayor's court, following Rykener's arrest in December 1394. At these proceedings, Rykener described in some detail coming to learn the trades of prostitution and needlecraft when living with a London embroideress, also telling the court with whom and where Rykener subsequently plied those trades. According to the transcription of the proceedings, Rykener had only recently returned to London after visiting other parts of southern England prior to being arrested in Cheapside, a busy commercial district of London.

Greenan's freelance work in the rock music industry moved from stage production and tours to costume design, with a break from design in the summer of 1980 when she acted as personal assistant and dresser to Diana Ross. From 1984 she pursued her interest in traditional American needlecraft establishing a business in Florida, Kiloran American Design, now KiloranDesigns. Despite her relocation to the town of Mount Dora, Florida various internationally known musicians sought her out to explore new looks and create costumes that promoted their developing stage personas. Ounsdale attracted children of all abilities from its catchment area from Pattingham and Patshull in the north to Enville in the south. It provided all secondary level education, grammar, technical and modern, without any clearly defined streaming of individual pupils. The second stage of building works was completed by September 1960. The school then consisted of three blocks; an administrative block with offices, dining hall, assembly hall, library, gymnasium, indoor heated swimming pool and changing rooms; a three-storey block of 22 classrooms (including specialist rooms for history, geography and music); and a practical block consisting of laboratories for general science, physics, chemistry and biology along with rooms for arts, crafts, needlecraft, domestic science, woodwork, technical drawing and metalwork.

In 2012 she created a series of large-scale sculptural installations, working with textiles, called Keeping Time With Needle and Thread. Women have been discouraged from becoming traditional artists but have expressed their creativity through textiles, an art form both beautiful and useful. For women in the 19th century a quilt could be like a diary. Much of what women packed for their journey to California consisted of their own handiwork: treasured quilts, best dresses, baby gowns, and other needlecraft. The meticulous stitches and the fabrics used give visitors a glimpse into the long-ago lives of California women. A few of the treasures that were displayed included: a baby coverlet made by Tamsen Donner (who perished in 1847 en route to CA with the Donner Party); a catalog of stitches – a sampler of diverse skills; a “best” quilt, Blazing Star variation, includes subtle stitched patterns of diagonals, wreaths, and feathers in the off blocks; quilted petticoats and much more.

Rogillo- Strength said that the store names are, as of 2002, "familiar to many long- time Houston residents". An individual named Addison McElroy owned The Candle Shop, Cargo and The Chemist Shop.

The interest in fantasy art and literature since the 1970s has seen a revival in the topics and styles of Victorian fairy painting, often in novel contexts. While artists such as Stephanie Pui-Mun Law have produced genre illustrations for book covers and role-playing games, the works of Brian Froud, also known for a series of illustrated fairy books, have been adapted into several successful motion pictures including The Dark Crystal (1982) and Labyrinth (1986). A 2003 book, The Art of Faery, written by David Riche and mentored by Froud, contributed to the careers of twenty fairy artists of this revival movement, including Amy Brown, Myrea Pettit, Jasmine Becket-Griffith, Philippe Fernandez, James Browne, and Jessica Galbreth, many of whom went on to author individual art books. Depictions of fae have made their way into the popular culture in other ways as well, including clothing designs, ceramics, figurines, needlecraft, figurative art, quilting, many marketed through Hot Topic to an international market online.

Some Rodnovers espouse ideas similar to those of the Kabbalah, such as the belief in a connection between language and the cosmos (corroborated by the etymological connection between the word yazychnik, "pagan", and yazyk, "language", which share the same root): the Cyrillic and Glagolitic scripts are considered to have magical usefulness. Rodnovers engaged in a circle-dance around a bonfire, celebrating the Koliada festival in Naro-Fominsk, Moscow Oblast, Russia. Rituals take place at consecrated places and generally include the lighting of fire (vozzhiganie ognia), invocation of gods, the singing of hymns, sacrifices (prinesenie treby) and the pouring of libations, circle-dances (khorovod or simply kolo, "circle"), and usually end with a communal meal. Some Rodnover organisations require that participants wear traditional Slavic clothes for such occasions, although there is much freedom in interpreting what constitutes "traditional clothes", this definition generally referring to folkloric needlecraft open to a wide range of artistic patterns.
