The brightly colored Lil Yachty doesn't initially seem like he'd fit into Tee Grizzley's grayscale, rap-verité stylings, but the two are both energetic MCs whose giddy flows complement each other well.

That designation, left over from when the genre was split into sub-segments of mainstream and underground, is still plagued by stigmas—namely that the lyrically focused MCs of that era wear beanies with brims and sleep on their friends' couches.

The Bronx-born M.C. has been active since the early 1980s, first with the Ultramagnetic MCs and then under a string of different aliases through which he has presented variations on his profane, expansive and always fun raps over the past three decades.

Wayne, since he was from the South and had come up as a child star, was for many of these people part of the same category, even though anyone with ears could have told you Wayne had been among rap's elite MCs for, at the very least, half a decade.
MCs were being followed by cops on their way out of raves and arbitrarily searched, and there were stories of grime promoters having their passports locked away as "insurance" against violent incidents (as if they were about to host a Wild West-style shoot-out, and then skip the country).
While the listener may recognize the sound, it's Baker's ability to expound upon it that has earned him admiration from fellow producers, as well as prominent MCs like Earl Sweatshirt and Action Bronson, who are both featured on his newest album, Animals Have Feelings, out this month on Stones Throw.
"Just like the plastic bag charge we are all now familiar with, a charge added to our coffee at the point of purchase will help consumers think about whether to take a refillable cup to the cafe," Laura Foster, head of clean seas at the MCS, said in a statement.

Little T might not yet possess bars that could justify a set in Jammer's basement, but he's just one of a glut of young grime MCs coming out of a burgeoning Blackpool scene, who are using this platform as a means to vent, clash, intimidate, crack gags and, ultimately, have their voices heard.

Since we were just talking about Lil Wayne and Raekwon on a track, let's mention this one because it comes at Wayne's ostensible creative nadir yet features him just rapping in full real hip-hop effect, going toe-to-toe with three of New York's most legendary MCs and not missing a beat.
Echoing the way early hip-hop was born in the 70s from crews in the South Bronx battle-rapping to Jamaican-born jock Kool Herc, in Santiago, the first MCs banded together to compete for bragging rights, often rapping in a made-up language when a song contained Jamaican patois they couldn't quite parse.
Shot on Lewisham's high street, which is the borough in South London that gave birth to MCs like Novelist, P Money, and Kozzie, the hyperactive video is packed full of cheeky charm and tracksuited teens, who are clutching their bottles of Lucozade (Britain's most popular energy drink) like the liquid is an extended body part.
One of the original MySpace queens, her electronic-pop-rap ragers "Pop the Glock" and "MCs Can Kiss" almost certainly blared out from between your Top 8 and your Heroes section ("my friends and JD from Scrubs XD"), and, as such, were viral hits before viral hits were a twinkle in a Soundcloud producer's eye.
But they've also taken the reins of the grime scene, becoming the go to venue for young and established MCs to spread themselves into sets live on air, with performances from the likes of Novelist and Skepta—who performed on BBK's own Radar Radio show—being broadcast from the Radar studio and out into the world.
His hypeman, bearded and giving off a bit of a Rick Ross vibe (handy for the Meek Mill collaboration "Fans Mi" later), arrived, a harbinger thunderclap, and then Davido himself sprinted in, hood up, sunglasses wrapped around his face, gold watch prominent, looking like he'd just come from an F1 race in space with some grime MCs.

We know that women are regularly taken less seriously by doctors and healthcare professionals (women, for example, wait an average of 16 minutes longer than men in emergency rooms, and are more likely to be prescribed less pain-relieving medication.) Could MCS—a condition with clear, life-altering symptoms for its sufferers—be overlooked for these same reasons?
Now—at a time when a piece of paperwork called Form 696 still has the power to prevent MCs from playing live shows in London, and the harder edge of UK rap has both burrowed back underground and gained major label recognition—host Mike Skinner looks to investigate just what space hard rap still occupies in our latest film.
Our film follows the three main stars of the scene – Soph Aspin, Afghan Dan and 13-year-old Little T – and digs beneath the surface to understand how the craze began, why it thrives on clashing, how it exploded on the internet, the major controversies and criticisms surrounding it, and the turbulent lives of these unique young MCs.

The form, which was eight pages when it was launched and was shortened to five in 2009, has made it extremely difficult for grime and garage MCs to perform over the years, with promoters having to fill it out—often without the artist's knowledge—sometimes leading to gigs being shut down at the last minute with little to no explanation.
Grime had the spiky synth work and technoid percussion to separate it from US hip-hop, but the British rap scene—often called "road rap" or more recently branching off into drill (yes, inspired by the briefly zeitgeist-y Chicago scene of the same name)—can usually only be distinguished from its US counterparts by the accents and slang of the MCs riding the beats.
That's why it's excellent news that some new voices—namely a few big-name grime MCs—have entered the fray to come out for the politician who is largely seen as both your bumbling grandad in a blazer talking about nuclear energy and the champion of youth in the UK: step up, MP for Islington North and Leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn.
His attempts at live performance in those early days were often aborted before they had a whiff of success through the efforts of Trident (the specialist Metropolitan Police unit tasked with investigating gun crime) as well as the legislative dead hand of Form 696, the risk-assessment document that many promoters and artists have claimed racially discriminates against shows performed by black and brown MCs and DJs.
Both murders remain unsolved—though, as mentioned, Westhoff does believe that Pac was killed by Anderson, a gang affiliate with whom he got in a fight on the night of his murder after a Mike Tyson boxing match in Las Vegas—leaving room to speculate that the shootings were related, but it's well known that at one time the two MCs were good friends.
