The Cobb hotspot has created an underwater mountain range that extends to the northwest and ends at the Aleutian Trench. The oldest mount in the chain is the Marchland Seamount, at 30 to 43 Ma (million years old). The old, northwestern end of the chain collides with a subduction zone; therefore, the true age of the hotspot is difficult to determine as the oceanic crust is being consumed. Axial Seamount is the hotspot's most recent eruptive center, which last erupted in 2015, 2011 and 1998.

Jiang Ziya ( century ), also known by several other names, was a Chinese noble who helped kings Wen and Wu of Zhou overthrow the Shang in ancient China. Following their victory at Muye, he continued to serve as a Zhou minister. He remained loyal to the regent Duke of Zhou during the Rebellion of the Three Guards; following the Duke's punitive raids against the restive Eastern Barbarians or Dongyi, Jiang was enfeoffed with their territory as the marchland of Qi. He established his seat at Yingqiu (in modern Linzi).

So, Linfen city is the earliest capital of China. Franz Krones Franz Krones Ritter von Marchland (19 November 1835, in Ungarisch-Ostrau - 17 October 1902, in Graz) was an Austrian historian. He studied history at the University of Vienna, where from 1854 he attended classes at the Institut für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung (Institute for Austrian Historical Research). After graduation, he taught classes at the Rechtsakademie in Kaschau and at the gymnasium in Graz. In 1864 he became an associate professor, and during the following year, was named a full professor of Austrian history at the University of Graz.

Roy's Military Survey of 1747 shows the 'Marchland' farm buildings spread over both sides of the road through the farm with small areas of woodland located near to each group of buildings.Roy's Map Retrieved : 2013-06-22 In 1820 'Marsheyland' is recorded on Thomson's map with a single building only, located on the approximate site of Marshalland House. The later Ordnance Survey maps show a farm behind Marshalland House with two wings, expanding between 1856, 1897 and 1909 to include other outbuildings, a sheepwash across the road and a likely horse-engine. The dwelling house consisted of a central roughcast dwelling and side wings which were plain ashlar.

Bana (; Banak), also known by the modern Turkish designation Penek Kilisesi, is a ruined early medieval cathedral in present-day Erzurum Province, eastern Turkey, in what had formerly been a historical marchland known to Armenians as Tayk and to Georgians as Tao. It is a large tetraconch design, surrounded by a near-rotunda polygonal ambulatory and marked with a cylindrical drum. Generally believed to have been constructed in the 7th century, based on an 11th-century chronicle it was reconstructed by Adarnase IV of Iberia at some point between 881 and 923. Henceforth, it was used as a royal cathedral by the Bagrationi dynasty until the Ottoman conquest of the area in the 16th century.

Under the Wei, who dominated the northern parts of China during the Three Kingdoms period, the Sima clan—with its most accomplished individual being Sima Yi—rose to prominence, particularly after the 249 coup d'état; historically known as the Incident at the Gaoping Tombs. After Sima Yi's death, his eldest son, Sima Shi, kept a tight grip on the political scene, and after his own death, his younger brother, Sima Zhao, assisted his clans' interests by further suppressing rebellions and dissent, as well as recovering all of Shu and capturing Liu Shan in 263. His ambitions for the throne remain proverbial in Chinese, but he died in 265 before he could rise higher than a King of Jin, a title named for the Zhou-era marchland and duchy around Shaanxi's Jin River.

Then he, in 1414, met the rebellious prince Atabeg Ivane Jaqeli of Samtskhe on battlefield and forced him into submission. Having dealt with these powerful feudal lords, he, aided by Catholicos Patriarch Shio II, began a program the restoration of major Georgian fortresses and churches. In 1431, he re-conquered Lorri, a Georgian marchland occupied by the Kara Koyunlu Turkoman tribesmen of Persia who had frequently raided the southern Georgian marches from there and had even sacked Akhaltsikhe in 1416.According to the 15th-century Armenian historian Thomas of Metsoph (T’ovma Metsobets’i), the Kara Kouynlu leader Kara Yusuf invaded Samtskhe and pillaged its capital Akhaltsikhe in 1416 in response to the profanation inflicted by the local Christian Georgians and Armenians on a mosque.
