Whilst at Hayes, Clark scored a penalty kick against Wycombe Wanderers televised on Sky Sports. He scored in the forty third minute giving Hayes a 2–1 lead, however they would go on to lose 4–3. His final game for Hayes was a start in the 2–0 loss at home against Boston United on 28 April 2002, in the Football Conference. Clark was named in a squad for the England C national football team (formerly known as the England semi-pro national team) match against the Isthmian League representative XI on 21 November 2001.

On 27 November 2008, Stanislas joined League One club Southend United on loan for six weeks. Lightning football is a generic term to describe variations of the game played over a shortened length, usually about half of the length of a full match. Lightning football may be played under otherwise unchanged rules, but in recent lightning matches staged by the AFL, experimental rules such as awarding a free kick against the last player to touch the ball before it goes out of bounds have been trialled. Lightning matches are often used, particularly at junior or amateur level, to play an entire tournament inside a single day or weekend. The deliberate out of bounds rule has a long history in Australian rules football, dating back to the 19th century. Prior to the 1883 season, a rule was introduced to award a free kick against a player who deliberately kicked the ball out of bounds from a kick-in after a behind. This was extended to putting the ball out of bounds from an in-play situation at the intercolonial conference prior to the 1886 season. The Swedish national team played its first ever international against England national football team on Walhalla IP in September 1908, and IFK Göteborg—that rented the stadium from Örgryte IS—won their two first Swedish championships, in 1908 and 1910, there. IFK Göteborg supporters stormed the pitch to get to the referee, who had first awarded IFK a penalty kick against Örgryte IS in the last minute of the match, but then blown the final whistle before the kick could be taken. Woodman signed for League Two side Exeter City in July 2012 on a free transfer after his contract with Brentford was terminated by mutual consent. He has gone on to play over 250 games for the Grecians, and following Jordan Tillson's departure in January 2020, is currently the longest-serving player at the club. Albert Foday (born April 27, 1985) nickname Junnior Biano is a Sierra Leonean international footballer who is an attacking midfielder and is currently playing for FC Kallon, one of the top clubs in the Sierra Leone National Premier League. On November 6, 2016, Boswell—now playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers–had an unsuccessful attempt against the Baltimore Ravens.

Ludovic (Ludo) Coeck (25 September 1955 - 9 October 1985) was a Flemish- Belgian footballer who played as left winger or central midfielder. His clubs included Berchem Sport, Anderlecht, Internazionale and Ascoli Calcio. First capped for the Belgian national team at the age of 19, he went on to play for his country 46 times, scoring four goals, over an international career which lasted a decade. Coeck was a member of the Belgian squad at España 82, where he played in all five of his country's games and scored with a long-range free-kick against El Salvador, and at Euro 84, where he appeared as a substitute in the defeats by France and Denmark.

Although Roberts had the potential to be one of the most important players for the Grenada national team, availability issues that came with playing in England limited his impact with the team. Forest finished third in the First Division for a second successive year. However they were unable to compete in the UEFA Cup. The 1985 post Heysel Stadium Disaster UEFA competition ban on English clubs still had one season to run. Des Walker won the first of his four successive selections for the PFA Team of the Year. Nigel Jemson scored as Forest beat Oldham Athletic 1–0 to retain the League Cup in 1990. Brian Clough reached his only FA Cup final in 1991 after countless replays and postponements in the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds. Pearce put Forest ahead after 16 minutes direct from a free kick against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley. Spurs won 2–1 after an extra time own goal by Walker.

Losing 12–9 at half-time in Murrayfield, Stringer made a break and passed to Jamie Heaslip, who scored a match-turning try that eventually saw Ireland win 15–22.

Alain Hamer had been due to referee the match between Dundee United and Rangers on Sunday, having controlled the match between Celtic and Inverness on Saturday, but the game was called off after a Sunday morning pitch inspection. One of the Israeli officials, Eli Hacmon, commented after refereeing the match between Kilmarnock and Aberdeen that no-one had explained to him why the referees were on strike before he travelled to Scotland. He went on to say that he would not have provided his services if he had known that the Scottish referees had gone on strike due to criticism. Aberdeen players protested when Hacmon awarded a penalty kick against them during the match, but BBC Sport commented that it appeared to be a simple decision, as goalkeeper Jamie Langfield had impeded Alexei Eremenko.

2012–13 Championship Brendan Rodgers, the new Liverpool manager, had hoped to keep Bellamy as part of his squad but the death of Speed and the breakup of Bellamy's marriage prompted him to return to Cardiff to be closer to his children. Talks about a possible transfer began and on 10 August 2012, Bellamy completed his free transfer to Cardiff City on a two-year deal. He made the first appearance of his second spell a week later in a 1–0 win against Huddersfield Town. After one more appearance, however, he requested time off to deal with his personal issues and did not return to the first team until mid September. On his return, Bellamy scored with a free kick against Leeds United; Cardiff won the game 2–1.

On 15 February 2014, Higginbotham scored two goals against his former club Motherwell at Fir Park as Thistle lost 4–3 despite having led 3–2 with 4 minutes left to play. Higginbotham scored at the time his 6th goal of the season in a 3–1 home win against Hibernian sealing the win with a stoppage time goal to make it 3–1 thistle.

The first game ever played between Nacional and CURCC was on 15 July 1900 and ended 2–0 in favor of CURCC. CURCC was ahead at first, but Nacional caught up during the late 1910s. Nacional took the lead by fourteen games in 1948, and would not surrender it until the late 1970s (except briefly in 1968). Since then, Peñarol has been the leader; its longest lead was 26 games in January 2004. Including the amateur and professional eras, league and friendly games, the teams have met 511 times in the past with 182 victories to Peñarol, 166 to Nacional and 163 ties.

Setting himself a target for the 2003–04 season of five goals, Bresciano surpassed that with eight goals from 33 appearances, the most of any midfielder in the Serie A, as Parma finished fifth in the league again. Bresciano had also claimed a regular spot in the Socceroos line-up, justifying his selection with a string of goals, including a match-winning free-kick against New Zealand and the only goal in a one-nil victory against South Africa. Parma's fifth place qualified them for the UEFA Cup, where the club advanced through to the semi-finals before being eliminated by eventual winners CSKA Moscow. Twenty days later Dafchev scored his first Botev and Plovdiv derby goal, opening the scoring in a 2–3 defeat against Lokomotiv Plovdiv. On 28 September he scored twice in a 3–1 home victory over CSKA Sofia. Dafchev made 24 appearances for the Canaries, scoring nine goals, but Botev were relegated from the A PFG at the end of the campaign. In the summer of 2004, Dafchev signed for his previously team Lokomotiv Sofia. On 10 August 2006, he scored his first ever European goal, netting a free-kick against Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv in a 2–0 away win. On 14 September, Dafchev scored free-kick and in a 2–2 home draw against Feyenoord. The following 2007–08 season he netted his third European goal in a 3–1 home win over Oţelul Galaţi of the UEFA Cup on 16 August 2007. In a 3–1 league win over Pirin Blagoevgrad on 11 November 2007, Dafchev scored his 49th and 50th goals in all competitions for Lokomotiv.

Arsenal Fenerbahçe in 2014 On 27 January 2012, Fenerbahçe acquired Sow for €10 million. He signed a 4.5-year contract which would have kept him at the club until the end of 2015–16 season. Sow made his debut against local rivals Beşiktaş on 5 February 2012, scoring a goal in the second minute of injury time. On 18 March he scored the first goal of the derby match with a bicycle kick against Galatasaray. He continued his good run of form by scoring a late equaliser against Kayserispor to earn a draw for his team in quarter-finals of the Turkish Cup on 12 April 2012, helping his team to reach the semi-finals through a penalty shoot-out. Sow also scored the second goal for his team against rivals Trabzonspor on 15 April 2012. Over the course of the 2011–12 season Sow played 12 league matches and scored 7 goals. Sow earned his first trophy with Fener in the Turkish Cup final on 16 May as the club ripped apart Bursaspor by a score of 4–0.

Ballack started and captained Germany in their first game of Euro 2008 against Poland. He proved to be an influential figure in the midfield as Germany came back from a shock defeat to Croatia to make it to the final, scoring a free kick against Austria to secure Germany a 1–0 win and a place in the quarter-finals. In the quarter- finals, he scored a header against Portugal to make the score 3–1 in their 3–2 win after an assist by Bastian Schweinsteiger's 60th minute free-kick, helping Germany to advance to the semi-finals. Germany went on to beat Turkey 3–2 in the semifinals. Prior to the final, Ballack sustained a calf injury but eventually overcame it in time.

Born in Barbate, Cádiz, Melli joined Real Betis as a 14-year-old, and made his way up through the ranks until he reached the reserve team in 2001. He spent a short period on loan at Andalusia neighbours Polideportivo Ejido in the late stages of the 2001–02 season, with two appearances in the second division. Melli scored his first career goal through a header from a Joaquín corner kick, against CA Osasuna on 18 September 2004 (2–3 away loss). As a member of the (West) German national team, Brehme took part at UEFA Euro 1984, the 1984 Summer Olympics, the 1986 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 1988, the 1990 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 1992, and the 1994 World Cup; he has named to the team of tournament at Euro 84, and helped Germany to the semi-finals of Euro 88, on home soil, scoring a goal in the nation's 1–1 opening draw against Italy. At Euro 1992, he won a runners-up medal, as Germany lost out 2–0 to Denmark in the final; he was once again named to the team of the tournament. Brehme won a runners-up medal at the 1986 FIFA World Cup, as Germany lost the final to Argentina, yet he won the World Cup in 1990 against the same opponents, later being named to the competition's All-star team. In the 1986 World Cup semi-final he scored a deflected free-kick against France, and in the 1990 semi-final he also scored a free-kick goal against England, which also took a deflection off of English defender Paul Parker, however.

On 6 August 2004, Prunty signed for Inverness Caledonian Thistle. A year later he joined Airdrie United where he was recognised as the club's 2005–06 Player of the Year. Prunty then signed for Airdrie's Second Division rivals Ayr United in May 2008. In May 2009, he was recognised by his fellow professionals as 2nd Division player of the year for 2008–2009. Prunty spent part of the 2009–10 season on loan at Stirling Albion. It was widely believed Prunty would sign permanently for Stirling in January 2010, but instead he was snapped up by Alloa Athletic. Prunty scored on his Alloa debut in a 2–0 win over Stenhousemuir. On 16 May 2011, Prunty then joined Dumbarton. In February 2012, he scored an overhead kick against Stenhousemuir which was voted as SFL Goal of the Month, then a year later won the same award after scoring a stunning overhead bicycle kick from the edge of the box in a match against Livingston in February 2013, which was reported to have been viewed so many times it caused the Livingston club website to crash.

In round 16 he recorded a season-best 25 disposals in his side's victory over and two weeks later he received a Rising Star nomination for an 18 disposal, four clearance and one goal contribution to his side's round 18 win over .. Higgins received another award nomination the following week, this time for Goal of the Year for a goal-line scissor kick against which 3AW commentator Tim Lane referred to as “one of the greatest, most creative goals ever kicked in 120 years of (the sport).” The goal attracted significant controversy however, with some commentators and fans labeling it a throw as it required Higgins to elevate the ball into the air while his body traveled around the goal-line in the act of kicking. Umpiring officials later supported the on-field umpire's decision to award the goal as Higgins' action to put the ball into the air was deemed to come in the action of kicking.

Davies began his career with Victoria Athletic before joining Cardiff City in 1919, making his debut in the 1919–20 season in a 2–2 draw with Luton Town on 13 September 1919 in the Southern Football League. The following season, he played for Cardiff in their first ever season in the Football League. He scored 17 times in the 1921–22 season, including Cardiff's first hat-trick in the Football League on 21 January 1922 during a 6–3 victory over Bradford City. Davies made a goalscoring debut for Wales on 4 February 1922 in a 2–1 win over Scotland. Davies scored 19 league goals the following season, with 23 in 1923–24 and 19 in 1924–25, going on to score 128 goals for the Bluebirds in 305 league matches for the club (115 in the First Division between 1921 and 1928) Unfortunately, Davies' place in history is for his part in the closest League Championship finish in history. On the final day of the 1923–24 season with Cardiff City needing to win to take the title, Davies missed a late penalty kick against Birmingham City as the match finished 0–0, ensuring that Herbert Chapman's Huddersfield Town won the title by 0.024 of a goal.

During his time at AEK, Scocco has been mostly used as a right winger and sometimes also as a second striker which is his preferred position. Scocco has attracted varies teams from the Serie A, such as Fiorentina, Udinese and Genoa and other leagues such as Boca Juniors from Argentina and S.L. Benfica from Portugal due to his impressive performances in the Greek Super League and the Europa League. He also attracted the other two Greek giants Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. Scocco also scored 2 goals past Olympiakos on 6 January 2010 and won AEK the match 1–2 away in the Karaiskakis Stadium. This performance earned him the Man Of The Match award and certainly his remarkable 40 yard free kick, his second goal, will be considered one of the best goals of the season, the following week he scored against Atromitos and then Panathinaikos. Scocco also scored a phenomenal goal against Panthrakikos and an outstanding free kick against Panionios 1 minute before the end of the match making the score 1–1. On 16 September 2010, Scocco scored the third and final goal on AEK's first European match against Hajduk Split.

However, after receiving few opportunities, he moved to Real Zaragoza on 7 January of the following year, on loan until the end of the season. He scored in only his second match for the Aragonese, which lost 2–4 at Villarreal CF. After contributing to Zaragoza avoiding relegation – he also scored in the last match, netting a 35-yard free kick against the same opponents, in a 3–3 home draw– Eliseu returned to La Rosaleda Stadium. Subsequently, he became teammate of compatriot Duda. Eliseu started 2010–11 firmly established in the starting XI. He joined Conference Premier club Ebbsfleet United on 21 March 2008 on loan until the end of the season, having made 18 appearances for Brentford up to that point in 2007–08. Charles made his Ebbsfleet debut the following day as a 78th-minute substitute in a 3–1 defeat to Stevenage Borough. He started in the following match, a 2–1 victory over Cambridge United, and he finished the loan spell with nine appearances. He made one more appearance for Brentford in 2007–08, in a 1–0 away defeat to Stockport County on 3 May 2008, finishing the season with 19 appearances for the club. Charles re-signed for Ebbsfleet on 21 June after joining on loan for 2008–09. He fouled Simon Brown to concede a penalty kick against Wrexham on 13 September 2008, which was scored by Brown, as Ebbsfleet lost 3–2. He was sent off for a second bookable offence late into a 1–0 defeat to Histon on 6 October 2008. After his Brentford contract was cancelled he moved to Ebbsfleet permanently on 29 January 2009, after the owners of Ebbsfleet, MyFootballClub, ratified a compensation fee of £25,000, making this the first transfer in football history to be decided by a group of members.

By scoring the lone goal against Sunderland on 6 December 2009, Zamora doubled his output from the previous season with his fourth goal of the campaign. In celebrating his winning goal, Zamora held a finger against his lips in response to the Fulham fans who had previously jeered him. On 17 December 2009, with Fulham needing a win to progress from Group E in the UEFA Europa League, Zamora scored twice against Basel in a 3–2 victory at St. Jakob-Park. Two days later, Zamora scored once again in a 3–0 win against Manchester United at Craven Cottage prompting talk of a call-up to the England squad. On 5 January 2010, he dislocated his shoulder at the Britannia Stadium during Fulham's 3–2 loss to Stoke City. Zamora struck the winner in Fulham's UEFA Europa League Round of 32 first leg match against Shakhtar Donetsk, his powerful strike from outside the box earning the Premier League side a 2–1 win. Zamora continued his scoring form on 22 February 2010 when netting a last minute free-kick against Birmingham City as Fulham came from behind to win 2–1. Zamora also scored Fulham's first goal in what was a historic UEFA Europa League comeback against Juventus, Fulham winning 4–1 on the night and 5–4 on aggregate.

Having been given a first team opportunity later in the season, he made the total of 14 appearance and scoring once for the side. Following Hull's relegation, Cairney began to establish himself in the first team in the 2010–11 season. He scored one goal, a curling free kick against Norwich City that helped Hull to their first away victory in 30 games. In January 2011, he signed a contract extension with the club, keeping him until 2013. Despite suffering an injury, Cairney made the total of 23 appearances during the 2010–11 season. In the 2011–12 season, Cairney continued to feature in the first team and then set up a double assists, in a 3–2 win over Watford on 22 October 2011. He then scored his first goal of the season on 7 January 2012, in a 3–1 win over Ipswich Town in the third round of the FA Cup. Despite suffering a foot injury, Cairney made a total of 29 appearances for Hull in the 2011–12 season. At the start of the 2012–13 season, Cairney played the vital role, in a 3–2 loss against Doncaster Rovers in the second round of the League Cup on 28 August 2012, when he set up two Hull City's goals in the match.
