A Raleigh, North Carolina location was planned, but scrapped. The ever-heightening profile of Furnitureland South reached a symbolic zenith in 1999 when an 85-foot-tall highboy situated at the showroom entrance became the largest item of furniture in the High Point area. Expansion continued into the new millennium. A $15 million, 250,000-square-foot distribution center opened in 2001, replacing five warehouses. Good Morning America did a story on Furnitureland South on April 29, 2002. In 2008, a $15 million addition gave the distribution center 225,000 additional square feet, for a total of 475,000 square feet that also included corporate offices. The company expanded its web site to allow online shopping in 2012, debuting with 2000 products.

In the 1960s, Megugorac and brother-in-law Carl Riggen co-founded Riggen Slot Cars to capitalize on the fad at the time; the company became one of the most successful makers of slot cars. In the 1960s, he opened Magoo's Street Rods in Canoga Park, California; he would be aided by his (later) wife, Lois, who did upholstery work. Megugorac built "some of rodding's most prominent hot rods", including a number of entries for the Grand National Roadster Show at Oakland, among them the winning car of the 1979 America's Most Beautiful Roadster trophy. Known as Deucari, and built for Brian Burnett, this was a highboy Deuce powered by a Ferrari V-12, and is still running.

Whereas the chest of drawers in its familiar form contains three long and two short drawers, the highboy has five, six, or seven long drawers, and two short ones. It is a very late 17th-century development of the smaller chest. The early examples are walnut, but by far the largest portion of the many that have survived are mahogany, this being the wood most frequently employed in the 18th century for the construction of furniture, especially the more massive pieces. Occasionally the walnut at the beginning of the vogue was inlaid, just as satinwood varieties were inlaid, depending for relief upon carved cornice- mouldings or gadrooning, and upon handsome brass handles and escutcheons.
