Augustus Jessopp, Head Master (1859–1879) and chairman of the governors (1900–1903) The school is divided into the Lower School, a preparatory feeder school which has around 250 pupils from ages 4 to 11, and the Senior School which has around 850 pupils aged from 12 to 18. Like many other independent schools the school has its own distinctive names for year groups called "forms". The school's academic year is divided into three terms: Michaelmas term, from early September to mid-December; Lent term, from early January to mid-March; and Trinity term, from mid-April to early July. In the middle of each term there is a week-long half-term holiday.
Upon leaving the choir, many boys take up music scholarships at the country's leading independent schools. The men of the choir are either undergraduates at the College or, occasionally, lay clerks (who have generally just graduated from St John's or another Cambridge college). As well as singing with the boys, they sing one service a week on their own and all services when the boys are on their half term holiday. As the a cappella vocal ensemble, the Gentlemen of St John's, they also sing lighter music, and are in frequent demand for concerts, May Balls, and many other engagements; they have also recorded many CDs ranging from close-harmony to renaissance music and tour regularly around the world.
Sales of the Nintendo 2DS surged three weeks after launching in the United Kingdom, after retailers cut on its price due to poor sales. The system was available for around £110, but major retailers including Argos, Amazon and Tesco cut the system's price to under £100 to coincide with the school half- term. As a result, sales of the Nintendo 2DS increased by 64% week-on-week, making it the UK's best selling console of the month, without combining the sales of the Nintendo 3DS and its larger counterpart. During the third quarter of 2013, video game retailer GameStop reported that worldwide hardware sales grew by 15.3%, mainly due to strong Nintendo 2DS and 3DS sales.
The next three series were originally broadcast on Mondays as part of the Daytime on Two strand at 1:45pm, and repeated on Thursdays at 10:25am. Some of the episodes also shared their titles with earlier ones to reflect the fact that they contained archive footage from previous series, and the eighty-ninth and ninety-ninth episodes were also yet again repeated in the weeks after their original showings for the benefit of schools who were on half-term holiday. In 1996, BBC Educational Publishing, now known as BBC Active, also released a VHS to schools named "Storytime Pairs" which featured ten of Beverley's stories from this series arranged on five themes.
On 19 July, another torrential storm caused further wreckage in at least 45 separate locations as rain fell on the already saturated ground, and at least ten of these spots damage was so serious major engineering work was required before reconstruction could get under way. It was also said later that the crucial link between Hampton Loade and Arley, including Highley station and the new Engine House museum, would probably not open until as late as Spring 2008. The Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade section eventually re-opened on 9 February 2008 for the school half-term. The first passenger train to Hampton Loade since 19 June 2007 departed on time at 10.30, comprising 5 LMS coaches hauled by 45xx Class no. 4566.
The merging of documentation and researcher-to-researcher dissemination keeps costs manageable and provides an innovative method of Knowledge Transfer. Dr. Roos also promoted the Concept Dictionary using the Epidemiology Supercourse (over 4000 lectures posted on the Internet, of which he has contributed 6). This design has proved popular with students who have audited his courses from the community (including those in the far north) and with registered students (including a half-term visitor from Newfoundland). Roos has received over 53 million dollars in research support (several grants have been in collaboration with researchers based across Canada as well as several US universities), and has been invited to venues as diverse as Spain, Australia, University of Wisconsin, and McGill to give short courses on his work.
When Elsie attempts to convince the form to perform a series of punishments against Mirabel in retaliation for her attitude in class, Isabel sticks up for her and manages to convince the class that Elsie is not acting in their interest but is just acting out of spite. As a result of this, Mirabel and Isabel become friends. Mirabel initially declares she wants to leave at half term, but ends up staying when Pat and Isabel stand up for her and the girls decide to give her a chance. Although at first they do not get on well, an unlikely friendship later develops between Gladys and Mirabel, as they help each other cope with their first time in boarding school.
In October 2006, Christi and Bobby Shepherd went on a one-week half-term holiday to the resort of Gouvia on the Greek island of Corfu with their father, Neil Shepherd, and his girlfriend Ruth Beatson, for which he paid almost £2,000. After an initial problem in which the family was allocated a room in the main building of the Louis Corcyra Beach Hotel, they were admitted to a semi-detached two-bedroom bungalow in the hotel's grounds. Forty-eight hours after arriving, Beatson and the children started to feel unwell, with Bobby stumbling and appearing dizzy. Christi became ill shortly after going to bed on 25 October and her father went to fetch a carrier bag for her to vomit into but he collapsed.
Alexander-Arnold was born in West Derby, Liverpool, where he attended St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School, before later enrolling at St. Mary's College, in Crosby. When he was six years old, local football club Liverpool hosted a half-term camp to which a number of pupils from his school were invited, and his was one of the names drawn from a hat to attend. There, he was spotted by academy coach Ian Barrigan who subsequently approached his parents to offer him the chance to join the club's academy. He began training two-to-three times a week, and in a variety of different positions, before later going on to captain the club at U16 and U18 level under coach Pepijn Lijnders.
The next three series were originally seen as part of the Daytime on Two strand on Mondays at 9:45am and repeated at 2:00pm the same day. The sixty-second and seventy-first episodes were also once again repeated in the weeks after their original airings for the benefit of schools who were on half-term holiday, and 3 May 1993 was the year's May Day Bank Holiday, so the seventy-eighth episode "Big Al" did not premiere until the following week. The eighty-third episode, "Tell Us a Story", was also originally aired on a Friday at 9:00am, in direct contrast to all the others, and the ninth series was also the final one produced before SFTV took over production of the show.
In so doing, Ouédrago envisaged the political, economic and social transformation of a Burkina Faso united and reimagined, one that would strive for socioeconomic progress for all in a stable and secure environment. At the core of this strategy was the development of human capital for inclusive growth and sustainable development for all Burkinabé, with a more just and equitable distribution of the fruits of growth and development. In December 2012, Ouédrago was elected for the first time as Member of Parliament to the Burkina Faso National Assembly in the Fifth Legislature of the Fourth Republic, representing for that half-term his newly created party. In this capacity, he helped to improve operations of the legislature and to strengthen policy debate among Parliamentarians, through the interventions of the Burkinabé political opposition.
The events of the four books take place roughly over ten months; with the events of each book occurring during a traditional British school holiday period. Effectively, each book reflects a season: The Steps up The Chimney takes place during the winter and over the Christmas holiday; The Door in the Tree takes place in spring, during the Easter holiday; The Tunnel behind the Waterfall takes place during the long summer holiday; The Bridge in the Clouds takes place during the shorter autumn half-term. During these holidays, the children's parents are carrying out humanitarian work in the Third World, so the children stay with their uncle Jack and his partner Phoebe. The storylines of the respective books incorporate various ecological and animal rights issues, such as badger baiting, fox hunting and industrial development.
Darrall Macqueen's first production was a converged TV/web event week for ITV in January 2000 called Mouse. This was transmitted live every day over children's half term school holidays on CiTV, celebrating the internet and interactivity. A further two Mouse event weeks were commissioned in 2001, during which time Darrall Macqueen were consulting for HomeChoice (UK based VoD service now called TalkTalk TV) on their pre-school and children's broadband strategy, and for Yes Television (UK based IPTV and VoD) on their children's ADSL channel and branding creative strategy. In 2002 Darrall Macqueen were asked to tender for a new CBBC weekend interactive magazine show and won the commission with Smile, hosted by Fearne Cotton, Reggie Yates and Devin Griffin (currently all BBC Radio 1 DJs), and later Kirsten O'Brien, Barney Harwood and a teenage Rochelle Humes.

"Irish Catholics," Swords writes, "or at least the strong farmers and well-off shopkeepers who insisted on sending their sons to Paris to be educated – were very loath to pay for them. Dr Charles Kearney, who became superior of the Collège des Irlandais in 1782, complained that often they sent their sons of thirteen or fourteen years of age with only one half- term or quarter-term's fee and that nothing ever followed despite frequent solicitations."Swords, Liam, The Green Cockade: The Irish in the French Revolution, 1789–1815 (Dublin, 1989), p. 14. Some scholars' financial destitution is further illustrated when, in 1789, Henry Essex Edgeworth wrote to his friend bishop Francis Moylan of Cork on behalf of one Fitzgerald, a medical student who was obliged to borrow five guineas, to persuade his father to send him money to pay his debts and return fare home.
Finneran found elements of the shoot embarrassing—including the requirement to be filmed in swimwear— and one scene which involved her character "snogging" a young barman played by an actor in his early twenties. In spite of the outlandish elements of the sitcom, Finneran notes that the cast "tried to find the truth in each character, to make them a real person – not a stereotype." In 2008, Finneran explained that as the series was filmed on location in Benidorm, her parents stepped in to help with childcare back home, with the children visiting during half-term. Finneran would ultimately remain with the series, through to its 7th series, which aired in 2015. Discussing the enduring appeal of the series in 2013, Finneran stated that the series' fan base had become firmly established by the fourth series and that viewers were attracted to the "banter" and recognisable family dynamics that take viewers "to the extremes".
It is written that Eileen stole the things in order to feed Eddie and apply for a new job. When Eddie does get employed, Eileen and Eddie go to Miss Theobald to confess about the stealing, for they heard that Pauline had been accused of this even though she had been taking money from her mother's bank account (In a short section also Claudine is suspected for stealing, for she suddenly has a lot of money and buys expensive birthday presents, but it turns out that she sold her lovely cushion cover that Mam'zelle showed to everyone at half term to Alison's mother.) Miss Theobald sends Eileen and Eddie into her other room next door, and calls for Matron. She tells her that she knows who stole from her, and asks Matron whether the girl should be expelled or not, since it was Matron who had been stolen from. The unkind Matron insists that the girl should be expelled, and is then lead to Eileen and Eddie.
Unlike the other Bank Holidays and common law holidays, the first Monday in May is taken off from (state) schools by itself, and not as part of a half-term or end of term holiday. This is because it has no Christian significance and does not otherwise fit into the usual school holiday pattern. (By contrast, the Easter Holiday can start as late—relative to Easter—as Good Friday, if Easter falls early in the year; or finish as early—relative to Easter—as Easter Monday, if Easter falls late in the year, because of the supreme significance of Good Friday and Easter Day to Christianity.) May Day was abolished and its celebration banned by Puritan parliaments during the Interregnum, but reinstated with the restoration of Charles II in 1660. 1 May 1707, was the day the Act of Union came into effect, joining England and Scotland to form the Kingdom of Great Britain.
College's 40th birthday party Peterborough Evening Telegraph, 28 September 2006 It has had specialist status as a sports college since 2001 and in 2012, it became an academy when it was handed over by Peterborough City Council to the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust in order to improve the school as it was remarkably behind the national average in most aspects of education and learning. Stanground Academy was finally rebuilt in September 2013 with the original school making way for demolition. This was beneficial in terms of the facilities available to students at the school, and has also solved the many maintenance issues with the former building which had led to the school being closed to students on several occasions in the past due to dangerous conditions for a communal building.Stanground College closed for another day Peterborough Evening Telegraph, 12 February 2009 Facilities at the school include a pool open for public swimming and a fitness suite/gym which is also open to the public during term time as well as in the half term breaks.
