Thirteen people were killed and 145 were injured. Following the collapse, the Federal Highway Administration advised states to inspect the 700 U.S. bridges of similar construction after a possible design flaw in the bridge was discovered, related to large steel sheets called gusset plates which were used to connect girders together in the truss structure. Officials expressed concern about many other bridges in the United States sharing the same design and raised questions as to why such a flaw would not have been discovered in over 40 years of inspections.

The frame rails featured a continuous hole spacing of 50 mm. Frame components were made of cold-formed E 380 TM and E 500 TM high-strength steel. It consisted of a two-piece modular frame with two symmetrical Z-profile members on front end and straight, untapered, U-shaped longitudinal flange at the rear which were interconnected by means of riveted gusset plates. The front suspension had parabolic leaf springs and for the rear there was a choice of leaf springs or air-suspension with Telligent level control.

Modern complex structures and timber trusses often incorporate steel joinery such as gusset plates, for both structural and architectural purposes. Recently, it has become common practice to enclose the timber structure entirely in manufactured panels such as structural insulated panels (SIPs). Although the timbers can only be seen from inside the building when so enclosed, construction is less complex and insulation is greater than in traditional timber building. SIPs are "an insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings, typically oriented strand board" according to the Structural Insulated Panel Association.

Myrna Bain (November 27, 1939 – April 12, 2007) born Myrna Delores Bain, was an activist, grass-roots organizer, scholar and writer. She was an influential member of several organizations founded by LGBTI women of color, most notably: The Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press (with Audre Lorde, Cherrie Moraga and Hattie Gusset). Bain was also a renowned professor of Black Studies for the City University of New York for several decades (at Hunter College, John Jay College and New York Institute of Technology). The Myrna Bain Scholarship at John Jay College is dedicated to her memory.

The first two locomotives were built at Swindon Works in 1849 for working trains on the steep and tightly-curved South Devon Railway which at that time was operated by locomotives from the Great Western Railway. The frames only ran from the front of the flangeless forward driving wheels to the rear buffer beam. The bogie swivelled in a ball-and-socket joint, riveted to a gusset under the boiler barrel. Early examples were fitted with sledge brakes, mounted between the driving wheels, but these were later replaced with a conventional brake acting on just one coupled wheel.

The Callender-Hamilton bridge system is a prefabricated Panel/Floor Beam/Deck system designed to span bridging lengths ranging from 30 to 150 metres with road widths of one to three or more lanes. The design uses Warren trusses and is centred on a series of gusset plates that allow the direct attachment of the longitudinal, diagonal, vertical, and cross framing members. Centralised connection points increase the speed of construction and allow identical panels to be fabricated from identical members and then installed on site. An important feature is that all connections are bolted, so removing the need for onsite welding.

The NTSB cited a design flaw as the likely cause of the collapse, noting that a too-thin gusset plate ripped along a line of rivets, and additional weight on the bridge at the time contributed to the catastrophic failure. Help came immediately from mutual aid in the seven-county Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area and emergency response personnel, charities, and volunteers. Within a few days of the collapse, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) planned its replacement with the I-35W Saint Anthony Falls Bridge. Construction on the replacement bridge completed quickly, opening on September 18, 2008.

The river Erms drains an area of about 179 km², mainly in the middle Swabian Alb and its foreland. Its upper part belongs to the Mittleren Kuppenalb, the lower part almost entirely to the foothills of the central Swabian Alb, where it passes successively through the Neuffen-Vorberge and the Erms-Steinach-Albvorland. Finally, a gusset close to the mouth of the river counts towards the subspace Nürtinger-Esslinger Neckartal of the Fildern. The highest point in the area reaches about 870 m above sea level in the area of the Römerstein on the Alb plateau.

Native Americans followed receding glaciers into Maine around 11,000 BC. At the time of European contact in the sixteenth century, people speaking a western dialect of the Wabanaki language inhabited present-day Falmouth. Captain John Smith observed a semi-autonomous band known as the Aucocisco living in Casco Bay. English explorer Christopher Levett met with the Aucocisco Sagamore Skittery Gusset at his summer village at the Presumpscot Falls in 1623. A combination of warfare and disease decimated Native peoples in the years before English colonization, creating a shatter zone of devastation and political instability in what would become southern Maine.

Charles Goodyear's development of vulcanised rubber enabled the invention of the elastic gusset boot. The advantage of elasticised boots meant they could be easily removed and put on again. By the late 1840s, the fashion began to catch on. This became a prominent style in the West until the onset of World War I. In the 1950s and '60s, Chelsea boots became popular in the UK – and their association with the King's Road (a street in Chelsea and Fulham in inner western London) set of Swinging London – worn by everyone from the Rolling Stones to Jean Shrimpton – is believed to explain how the name "Chelsea" became attached to the boot.

While there are plenty of large signs, flashing lights, and rumble strips alerting motorists to this turn, there have still been a large number of crashes resulting from inattentive motorists. There are plans to realign the freeway along a shallower curve within the next decade, as part of a larger project to improve the highway system in Cleveland. The Innerbelt in Cleveland previously used a steel-gusset bridge of the same design as the I-35W bridge that failed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2007. Beginning September 30, 2008, two lanes in each direction of the eight-lane bridge were closed to reduce the weight load on the structure.

The I-90 bridges replace two cantilever truss bridges at the same location. Built in 1960, they were in length and in height. On May 24, 1996, a gusset plate failed on the eastbound span, similar to the later failure on the I-35W Mississippi River bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2007, prompting the Ohio Department of Transportation to close the bridge later that day and divert traffic; the cause originally was attributed to an overloaded semi- trailer truck. The detour followed the State Route 44 and State Route 2 freeways, U.S. Route 20, and State Route 528, the latter which traverses downtown Madison.

The August 2007 collapse of the Interstate 35W Mississippi River bridge in Minneapolis brought renewed attention to the issue of truck weights and their relation to bridge stress. In November 2008, the National Transportation Safety Board determined there had been several reasons for the bridge's collapse, including (but not limited to): faulty gusset plates, inadequate inspections, and the extra weight of heavy construction equipment combined with the weight of rush hour traffic.

Its entrance plaza is composed of a steel structure with plywood-and-corrugated metal. The hub of the wheel, supported by two blue-painted legs shaped like the letter "A", contains an illuminated sign with orange letters spelling "" in all capital letters. There are sixteen spokes extending from the hub, each connected at their outer ends by a hexadecagonal frame and braced by green beams, each connected through rivets and gusset plates.

The 1712 boiler was assembled from riveted copper plates with a domed top made of lead in the first examples. Later boilers were made of small wrought iron plates riveted together. The problem was producing big enough plates, so that even pressures of around were not absolutely safe, nor was the cast iron hemispherical boiler initially used by Richard Trevithick. This construction with small plates persisted until the 1820s, when larger plates became feasible and could be rolled into a cylindrical form with just one butt- jointed seam reinforced by a gusset; Timothy Hackworth's Sans Pareil 11 of 1849 had a longitudinal welded seam.

The lower supporting ring was attached to the foundation with an anchor bolts on both sides from the nodal supporting gusset plates. On June 29, 1921, during the uplifting of the fourth section, an accident occurred — cable broke, as a result whole fourth section fell from a height of 75 meters and damaged the fifth and sixth sections, which were assembled on the ground. The arc of the truss consists of steel beams connected to one another by "batten plates" (single-piece, flat, cast steel plates). The chords (the vertical and sloping beams) fit within a flange (a U-shaped, single-piece, cast steel plate) which is battened to the arc of the truss. The portal braces (the criss-crossing small beams that form a box hanging from the "roof" of the truss) are fastened to the truss with gusset plates. The horizontal struts at the top of each portal brace is made of "laced" steel (beams with holes in it), since the struts are in tension (being pulled apart) rather than compression (crushed from the ends).

Attempts have been made to increase the safety of bridges with pin and hanger assemblies by adding some form of redundancy to the assembly. Retrofits that add redundancy to pin and hanger assemblies include adding a "catcher's mitt"a short steel beam attached to the bottom of the cantilevered girder that extends out beneath the suspended girder to "catch" the suspended girder should the pin and hanger assembly fail. Another redundancy is connecting the cantilevered and suspended girders at the pin and hanger assembly with welded blocks and tie rods. Replacement options include bolted splices (gusset plates) plus shear connectors; a link slab; a ship-lap joint; and a new pin and hanger assembly with improved materials.

A search concluded that there was no T. Keane missing in any English-speaking country and a nationwide circulation of the dry-cleaning marks also proved fruitless. Kkachi durumagi is also called obangjang durumagi because it is composed of five colors, representing five different directions (obang) - east (blue), west (white), south (red), north (black), center (yellow). The concept is based on Oriental philosophy. Seop (섶), the overlapped column of the garment in the center is made of a yellow fabric while gil (길), the large section of the garment in both front and back side is made of a fabric in yellowish green. For boys, blue color is used for the portions called git (깃, a band of fabric that trims the collar), goreum (고름, strings at chest), doltti (돌띠, embroidered belt) respectively and purple is used for mu (무, gusset).

The structure was one of the first early skyscrapers in New York City to use a cage-like steel frame structure. The Mutual Reserve Building utilized steel in its beams and columns, which were riveted to each other and supported each floor's walls. In a 1909 meeting of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Carnegie Steel engineer C. V. Childs stated that he had devised a wind bracing system, utilizing gusset plates at the building's narrow end to reduce distortion, which was first used in either the Mutual Reserve Building or the Savoy-Plaza Hotel. The 707 km² catchment area of the Fils is divided into a somewhat smaller southern part in the Swabian Alb and a somewhat larger northern part in the Alb foothills. At first, the river runs approximately east-northeast until its turning point from Geislingen through the Mittlere Kuppenalb and towards the end also has an inflow from the Albuch and Härtsfeld in the east. From Geislingen it turns slowly westwards and flows through the three subspaces Filsalbvorberge, Notzinger Platte and Schlierbacher Platte of the Middle Alb foothills, whereby then the right tributaries first drain the Rehgebirge of the Eastern Alb foothills and then the southern part of the Schurwaldes in the Swabian Keuper-Lias Land. A tiny gusset near the mouth near Plochingen lies in the Nürtinger-Esslinger Neckar Valley, a part of the Filder.
