The Cradlesong Tour (stylized cradlesong tour) is the second solo concert tour by Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas. The tour supported his second studio album, Cradlesong and the digital EP, Someday EP. The tour primarily visited North America and Australia. During the summer of 2010, the tour morphed into the Sidewalk Angels Tour, benefiting the charity of the same name.

Cradlesong made a positive debut on the Billboard 200 at number #3, selling 122,000 copies while "Her Diamonds" ascended up the Billboard Hot 100 to a peak of 23. As of July 12, 2015, Cradlesong has sold 493,000 copies in the United States.

On June 9, 2009, Thomas released "Give Me the Meltdown" to the US iTunes Store. Similarly, "Someday" was released on June 16. On June 22, Cradlesong was made available for streaming only on the we7 website, one week ahead of its UK release date. Thomas promoted the album with his 2009/2010 tour, Cradlesong Tour.

"Her Diamonds" is the lead single from Rob Thomas's second studio album Cradlesong. Thomas confirmed the single's release via a Twitter account he had created on March 11, 2009. The single premiered on April 22, preceding the release of Cradlesong on June 30. On July 3, 2009, Thomas confirmed in an interview with Natalie Morales and Lester Holt on NBC's Today show that the song references his wife Marisol's auto-immune disease.

Having played half the forthcoming album to Entertainment Weekly, it was reported that many of the lyrics on Cradlesong were about troubled relationships, and three more song titles were revealed: "Meltdown" (described as "INXS-esque power pop" that stood out as "a possible first single"), "Fire on the Mountain" (an "epic, tribal drum-driven" track inspired by Dave Eggers' book What Is the What) and "Getting Late" (suggested as the "set's likely closer" and what Thomas described as "a little ditty about death."). On March 11, 2009, Rob Thomas created his own Twitter account and announced via the social application that "Her Diamonds" would be the lead single from Cradlesong. Thomas has also stated via Twitter that Cradlesong had been mastered and featured fourteen tracks culled from the twenty-four songs recorded during the album sessions. All twenty-four tracks were fully mixed and mastered, leaving plenty of material left over for B-sides, iTunes, or EPs.

For the tour, Thomas' created USB wristbands that included highlights of songs from the tour. Fans were able to vote on the songs included on the wristbands. Entitled the "Best of…cradlesong tour", the USB included 30 songs from various concerts on the first North American and Australian leg of the tour. An additional USB wristband was made available for the Sidewalk Angels tour.

After his solo success, many of Thomas's confidants urged him to leave Matchbox Twenty. As Thomas wrapped up his tour for Cradlesong, he began writing songs for consideration for the next Matchbox Twenty album. He gathered in Nashville, TN with his bandmates to narrow down the work he had already done and develop new material. The group members disagreed on which musical direction the new album should take.

Carolina Liar was the supporting act on the David Cook/Gavin Degraw 2011 Fall Tour. In 2012, they were the opening act for the Kelly Clarkson/The Fray Tour. Carolina Liar also played as the opening act for Rob Thomas while he was playing in New York City at the Beacon Theater and the rest of the stops on his Cradlesong Tour. Matchbox Twenty performed at the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup award ceremony. When the band finished touring later during 2008, Rob Thomas began work on his second solo album, Cradlesong. He stated in an interview to Billboard that he expected that the other members of the band might begin work on Matchbox Twenty's next album without him. At the concert at Mohegan Sun Casino on December 18, 2009, Rob Thomas said that he was not frequently playing Matchbox Twenty songs at his 2009 tour stops because the band was planning to tour together in 2010.
