Assistant to John Ross of Darlington with North Eastern Railway Co., George Bidlake of Wolverhampton and senior assistant to Joseph Potts of Sunderland 1867. Frank commenced independent practice in Sunderland 1870.
The new design competition for a town hall on Fawcett Street took place. This competition was judged by Alfred Waterhouse and won by the little known architect Brightwen Binyon, who had worked in Waterhouse’s office. The competition were dogged by accusations of corruption, but the building was built. Caws' other constructions include Seaview Pier, and New Dukes House, near Hexham.
Shankar (Anil Kapoor), an actor of sorts, loves Urmila (Juhi Chawla), but since Urmila is the daughter of a conservative and orthodox retired police officer Abhayankar (Amrish Puri), it'll take a lot for Shankar to win over the Abhayankar family. Shankar then begins to create a series of lies (hence the title, when he lies, the crow caws) in attempting to get the one he loves.
In 1959, CAWS was approved to conduct research on chemical warfare agents on human subjects. Despite gaining this approval, the issue that remained was finding consenting participants. All inmates who were tested on in the trials had consented to the experimentation, however, they mostly agreed due to incentives like monetary compensation. Experiments in the prison often paid around $30 to $50 and even as much as $800.
New Affections, released in 1998, was the Pillows' last full-length label recording. In 2000, the band set up a temporary studio at the Caws-Elwitt home in Friendsville, Pennsylvania, to record a new project, but soon after the lineup dissolved. The five song EP that had been recorded was released online as Tomorrow Is Yesterday. After a hiatus, Jonathan began writing and recording at home again.
Thevenin, Paule, Derrida, Jacques, Antonin Artaud, Dessins et Portraits Gallimard, 1986. p. 25 Jacques Derrida's essay was first published in French titled Forcener le Subjectile in 1986 by Gallimard and in an abridged English translation Jacques Derrida and Mary Ann Caws, Maddening the Subjectile, Yale French Studies, No. 84, Boundaries: Writing & Drawing (1994), pp. 154-171 Jstor was published later (in 1998 by MIT press).
CAWS repeats the aspects shown by the lineside colour light signals on an aspect display unit (ADU) inside the driver's cab. The ADU continuously displays the aspect that was shown by the previous signal until updated about 350 metres before the next signal. The ADU then displays the aspect shown by that signal. A change of ADU display to a less restrictive aspect (e.g.
Because CAWS is a continuous system, an upgrade can occur anywhere between signals. The driver may then accelerate in the knowledge that the signal ahead has changed to a better aspect, even though it may not yet be visible. Similarly, the driver can quickly act upon an unexpected downgrade, which may be the result of the signalman having returned the signal ahead to red in an emergency.

The third and final part was devoted to the drawings of Pablo Echaurren that were published in Lotta Continua in 1977. On April 24, 2018, at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, Mary Ann Caws, Thierry de Duve, David Joselit, Sophie Seita and Elizabeth Zuba conversed in an evening inspired by Dada focusing on the 1917 New York magazine The Blind Man, curated by Marcel Duchamp, Henri-Pierre Roché and Beatrice Wood, recently republished in facsimile edition by the Ugly Duckling Presse. Mary Ann Caws, Distinguished Professor of Comparative Literature, English and French at the Graduate School of the City University of New York, started from impressions received in 2017, during the visit to Pablo Echaurren's exhibition Du champ magnétique. Works 1977-2017, held at the Scala Contarini del Bovolo, Venice, to highlight the seminal value of one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century.
I doubt these findings would be true for modern day, since, according to Dick Durbin, the opening of the two newly facilitated sewage treatments plants, in Skokie and Calumet, were designed to improve the overall water quality of the Chicago Area Waterway System (CAWS). The two modified plants treat the city’s runoff and sewage before its discharged into waterways by using a chlorination/de- chlorination process, which allowed Chicago to take the historic step in no longer allowing for sewage and runoff to be discharged into CAWS untreated. Although the two updated sewage-treatment plants reduce the amount of pathogenic bacteria in the water, according to CBS, there has been no plan yet to provide the same care to the Stickney treatment plant. This is cause for concern because the Stickney treatment plant is the world's largest sewage- treatment plant and handles more wastewater than any other MWRDGC system's treatment plants.
He faulted his treatment of The Interpretation of Dreams and The Psychopathology of Everyday Life, arguing that he ignored interrelations between them and some of Freud's other works. Caws believed Grünbaum exposed the inadequacies of psychoanalysis. He praised his discussion of the "Tally Argument", and endorsed Grünbaum's criticisms of Habermas. Cioffi described the book as "ambitious and illuminating", but criticized Grunbaum's view that Freud relied on the "Tally Argument".
The Morrisons were soundly defeated at the Caws of Tarbert, whereupon a strong force of MacAulays and MacLeods invaded the Morrison lands. The chief was captured and imprisoned at Rodil. He managed to escape, but the MacLeods used their influence with the king to have him declared an outlaw. As every man's hand was now turned against him, Morrison resorted to desperate measures and kidnapped one of the Macleod heiresses.
Hofer, 107 The astronomical clock was extended to its current state in 1527–1530. In addition to the astronomical clock, the Zytglogge features a group of mechanical figures. At three minutes before the hour the figures which include a rooster, a fool, a knight, a piper, a lion and bears, put on a show. The animals chase each other around, the fool rings his bells and the rooster caws.
Caws Cenarth cheeses The Farmhouse Cheese Shop, run by John and Patrice Savage-Ontswedder, can be found in Carmarthen Market. They have their own range of Teifi Cheeses and Glynhynod Caerphilly, together with almost all the other cheeses made in West Wales. Teifi Cheese is an organic vegetarian cow's milk cheese with a bright yellow interior and sweet fruity flavour when young. As it ages, the cheese becomes hard and flaky.
The Elephant Tea Rooms is a Grade II listed building in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England. The building was constructed from 1872 to 1877 by Henry Hopper to a design by architect Frank Caws for Ronald Grimshaw, a local tea merchant, in a blend of the high Victorian Hindu Gothic and Venetian Gothic styles. This was a selling point, as the exotic style and name advertised the exotic origins of the tea sold there.
Following the merger of the Meteorology Department's research site and the weather station in 1987, the site has been used since the 1990s for both research and teaching. In the early 1990s, a recording system based on Campbell data loggers was implemented for air temperature and surface fluxes. A display was provided in an entrance corridor of the Meteorology Department's old building, TOB2. This was known as CAWS (Corridor Automatic Weather Station).
The red- throated caracara hunts in the canopy and the understory of the lowland jungle, foraging mainly for insect nests. Most red-throated caracaras hunt silently, but occasionally make soft caws and sometimes hunt in groups. When hunting in groups, one or two individuals scout for predators in the canopy, while the remaining flock hunts in the understory. The red-throated caracara is highly territorial, with four to eight individuals in a group.
On May 15, 2007, the band released their fourth studio album, Pasadena (after their hometown of Pasadena, CA), through About a Girl Records. The album included guest appearances by Matthew Caws (Nada Surf), Will Noon (Straylight Run, Fun), Rachel Haden (The Rentals, that dog.), Ben Pringle (The Rentals, Nerf Herder), and Eric Summer (Get Set Go). Allmusic referred to Pasadena as "the strongest work of their careers," rating it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Uniclass is a classification scheme for the construction industry, the full name of which is "Unified Classification for the Construction Industry". It is intended for organising library materials and for structuring product literature and project information. It incorporates Common Arrangement of Work Sections (CAWS) and Electronic Product Information Co-operation (EPIC), a new system for structuring product data and product literature. Uniclass comprises 15 tables, each of which represents a different broad facet of construction information.
In July 1974, she played against Sally Jones in the first British Ladies' Championship match. The match ended in a draw, and Jones won the rematch in October with a score of 2-0-1. Caws won the British Ladies' crown later, in 1979, beating Jones with a score of 2-1-0. In 1986, United Kingdom and Irish Draughts Federation, in partnership with the American Checker Federation, organized the first ever World Women's championship in English draughts.
Most of Savin's railway can be traced today. There is a fine bridge at Brook House, that has a high arch to accommodate the tall chimneys of the locomotives used on the line. It seems that there was an existing bridge taking the lane over Nant-y-Caws brook, now referred to as the Garden Bridge. Savin built a new bridge to take the lane over both railway and brook, and realigned the lane over the new bridge.
He had already been noticed for his writing ability, and had published one well-received book, A History of Orgies (1958).Mary Ann Caws, Sarah Bird Wright, "Bloomsbury and France: art and friends", Oxford University Press, 2000, , p.386 Frances sold Ham Spray and moved to London. Her writings, her membership of the Bloomsbury circle, her great personal charm and the energy that she retained into extreme old age together ensured for her a degree of celebrity towards the end of her life.
However, her social and political influence on Surrealism extends far beyond the novel, and beyond her influence as Breton's "notorious muse". In recent years, historians such as Marie-Claire Barnet, Mary Ann Caws, Renée Riese Hubert, Andréa Oberhuber, and Penelope Rosemont, have begun to un-do the "reducing" of Deharme to "a failed love story". These scholars have set out to establish a more dynamic conception of Deharme's reputation. In her lifetime, Lise Deharme (1889–1980), gained "celebrity as a hostess".
Uncommon Arrangements: Seven Marriages Random House Digital, Inc.: New York, 2008 Philip's extramarital affairs produced several children who were cared for by his wife, who also struggled to conceal evidence of his mental instability. The Morrells themselves had two children (twins): a son, Hugh, who died in infancy; and a daughter, Julian, whose first marriage was to Victor Goodman and second marriage was to Igor Vinogradoff. Morrell had a long affair with philosopher Bertrand Russell,Caws, Mary Ann and Wright, Sarah Bird.
In this system, data is transmitted magnetically between the track and locomotive by magnets mounted beside the rails and on the locomotive. In the Integra- Signum system the trains are influenced only at given locations, for instance whenever a train ignores a red signal, the emergency brakes are applied and the locomotive's motors are shut down. Additionally, they often require the driver to confirm distant signals (e.g. CAWS) that show stop or caution – failure to do so results in the train stopping.
In 1995, Conte left the band and was replaced by Ira Elliot, former drummer of the Fuzztones, a band from the 1980s New York scene, and of whom both Caws and Lorca were fans. After a Blonde Redhead show at the Knitting Factory, Nada Surf met former Cars frontman and Weezer producer Ric Ocasek. With little hope, they presented him with a copy of Tafkans. Three weeks later, Ocasek called back with news of his intention to produce the album.
He played the lead role of Trefor the taxi driver in Gwlad yr Astra Gwyn, for which he received a BAFTA Cymru nomination as best actor in 2013, and was the original Rapsgaliwn. In 2016-2017 he appeared in a regular role in the drama Byw Celwydd. Meilir has toured with numerous theatre companies including Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, Theatr Fran Wen and Bara Caws. In 2018, Meilir starred in Hidden, a crime thriller about abduction and murder, broadcast on BBC One Wales.
Tzara also prefaced a 1934 collection of Surrealist poems by his friend René Char, and the following year he and Greta Knutson visited Char in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue."René Char Bio-Bibliography", in Selected Poems of René Char (edited by Mary Ann Caws and Tina Jolas), New Directions Publishers, New York, 1992, p.xii. Tzara's wife was also affiliated with the Surrealist group at around the same time. This association ended when she parted with Tzara late in the 1930s.
Hatfield and Caws co-wrote the record and sung on all of the songs together. They also played all of the instruments with the exception of drums and programming, which were supplied by Parker Kindred (Joan As Police Woman, Antony and the Johnsons, second Jeff Buckley record) and Chris Egan (Say Hi To Your Mom, Computer Magic, Solange). Egan used a Roland TR-909 drum machine from the late 1980s to provide percussion. The record was co-produced by Tom Beaujour, in Hoboken, New Jersey.
242 At the wedding, seventeen-year-old Henrietta was already pregnant with their daughter. Burgo died suddenly of heart failure on 7 September 1963, only three weeks after the birth of their baby, Sophie Vanessa. He had already been noticed for his writing ability, and had published one well-received book, A History of Orgies (1958),Mary Ann Caws, Sarah Bird Wright, "Bloomsbury and France: art and friends", Oxford University Press, 2000, , p.386 which was a financial success for himself and his publisher Anthony Blond.
Besides The Frogmore Papers, The Frogmore Press has also published both individual collections and anthologies. The Frogmore Papers have published hundreds of new, neglected and established writers. Notable contributors have included Tobias Hill, Sophie Hannah, Susan Wicks, Elizabeth Bartlett, Brian Aldiss, Carole Satyamurti, Paul Groves, Mario Petrucci, Matthew Mead, Tamar Yoseloff, Frances Leviston, Katherine Pierpoint, Andrew Waterhouse, John Harvey, Pauline Stainer, Ian Caws, Jill Dawson, Jane Holland, Robert Seatter, Catherine Smith, Stewart Conn, Clare Pollard, Susan Wicks, Michael Swan, Christopher James and Andrew Waterman.
But he also thought "sterile" the constraints proposed by would-be reformers such as François de Malherbe. This disregard for constraints probably added to his reputation as a non-conformist.Stedman (2012), pp. 59–61. De Viau's poetic style refused the logical and classicist constraints of François de Malherbe and remained attached to the emotional and the baroque images of the late Renaissance, such as in his ode Un corbeau devant moi croasse (A crow before me caws), which paints a fantastic scene of thunder, serpents and fire (much like a painting by Salvator Rosa).
From the time the Critique of Dialectical Reason was published in 1960, there has been much discussion about where it stands in relation to Sartre's earlier, seminal work, Being and Nothingness. Some Sartre scholars and critics, like George Kline, see the work as essentially a repudiation of Sartre's existentialist stance. Marjorie Grene thinks that the Critique of Dialectical Reason can be readily translated into the categories of Being and Nothingness. Hazel Barnes and Peter Caws see a shift in emphasis between the two works but not a difference of kind.
A significant portion of Walter Moers' Labyrinth of Dreaming Books is an ekphrasis on the subject of an epic puppet theater presentation. Another example is found in Samuel Delany's Trouble on Triton, which features a theater company that produces elaborate staged spectacles for randomly selected single-person audiences. Plays produced by the "Caws of Art" theater company also feature in Russell Hoban's modern fable, The Mouse and His Child. Raina Telgemeier's best-selling Drama is a graphic novel about a middle-school musical production, and the tentative romantic fumblings of its cast members.
Zagat had given a poor review of one of White's other restaurants, Titantic. White retired from the kitchens of all of his restaurants in 1999, handing back Michelin stars they had earned. Under head chef Charlie Rushton it earned a Michelin star in 2000, however the chef left shortly afterwards and was replaced by Martin Caws, who had been sous chef under White at the Oak Room. Whilst White and his girlfriend Matilde Conejero were dining with Michael Winner at the restaurant in 2000, Winner asked why White hadn't yet had thoughts of marriage.
Panorama of the Solent as seen from Seaview In 1877 the Seaview Pier Company was formed to build Seaview a promenading pier, and approval for a 350-yard-long pier was given by Parliament in 1878. The suspension pier was designed by Frank Caws, a Seaview-born engineer/architect then working in Sunderland. The pier was finished in 1881 and was 1000 foot-long and 15 feet wide, in 1889 it was extended another 50 feet. There were four towers from which the pier deck was suspended with chains.
Teaching Philosophy is a peer-reviewed academic journal devoted to the practical and theoretical discussion of teaching and learning philosophy, that is philosophy education. Established by Arnold Wilson in 1975, it has published over 2,500 articles and reviews in this field. Notable contributors include Norman Bowie, Myles Brand, Peter Caws, Angela Davis, Daniel Dennett, Alasdair MacIntyre, Rosalind Ladd, Michael Pritchard, Anita Silvers, and Robert C. Solomon. Members of the American Association of Philosophy Teachers and the Philosophy Learning and Teaching Organization have access as a benefit of membership.
When she belted, her wide vibrato wobbled to the breaking point. Most of her s’s were slurred sh’s. Frequently short of breath, she swallowed phrases. Many of her highest notes were dry, piercing caws. But there were still occasional moments of beautifully focused dramatic singing... As for movement, there were no kicks or even half-kicks, although Ms. Minnelli can still strut stealthily and sprawl across a director’s chair in sensual abandon... Once the show began to soar, though, Ms. Minnelli’s force of will became a triumph of spirit over flesh.
The personnel involved in the recording and production of Here & Now departs sharply from previous projects and represents an effort to reconnect with fresh, young talent. The album is co-produced by James Iha (formerly of Smashing Pumpkins) and Adam Schlesinger (of Fountains of Wayne and Ivy). Guest artists include Ryan Adams, Ben Kweller, Jim James and Patrick Hallahan of My Morning Jacket, Matthew Caws and Ira Elliot of Nada Surf, Mark Rozzo of Maplewood, and longtime collaborator and friend Stephen Bishop. Veteran America drummer Will Leacox joins in on percussion.
In 1967 he was vice-president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. From 1974 to 1984 he was board member and chair of the Committee on International Cooperation of the American Philosophical Association. In 1988-89 he was president of the Washington Philosophy Club and from 1992 to 1994 he was president of the Société Américaine de Philosophie de Langue Française. Caws was awarded a Fulbright travel grant in 1953, a fellowship of the American Council of Learned Societies in 1972 and a Humanities Fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation in 1979-80.
During the First World War a branch was laid in lightweight portable "Jubilee track" from Cefn Gwyn along Cwm Caws for timber extraction. When this work was finished in 1917 the track was lifted and re-laid on the trackbed of a long closed branch to Coed y Chwarel. Though some sources say that Baguley petrol locomotive No. 774 was used on this line, more recent research has dispelled this. During 1940 the Coed y Chwarel branch was again re-laid using Jubilee track for further timber extraction.
Crows and the other members of the genus make a wide variety of calls or vocalizations. Crows have also been observed to respond to calls of other species; presumably, this behavior is learned because it varies regionally. Crows' vocalizations are complex and poorly understood. Some of the many vocalizations that crows make are a "koww", usually echoed back and forth between birds, a series of "kowws" in discrete units, a long caw followed by a series of short caws (usually made when a bird takes off from a perch), an echo-like "eh-aw" sound, and more.
A number of prototype flechette-firing weapons were developed as part of the long-running Special Purpose Individual Weapon (SPIW) project. The Steyr-Mannlicher ACR Rifle was a prototype flechette-firing assault rifle built for the US Army's Advanced Combat Rifle program of 1989–90. A variation of the flechette addressing its difficulties is the SCMITR, developed as part of the Close Assault Weapon System, or CAWS, project. Selective-fire shotguns were used to fire flechettes designed to retain the exterior ballistics and penetration of the standard flechette, but increase wounding capacity through a wider wound path.
It features guest vocals by Matthew Caws (Nada Surf) and Tunde Adebimpe (TV on the Radio) and an interactive ebook with illustrations by the artist Danica Novgorodoff to accompany the text. In February 2014, she released Bluebird which features guest appearances by Norah Jones and others Bluebird won the 2015 14th Annual Independent Music Awards for '"Folk/Singer-Songwriter Album of the Year". Landes is at work on a musical called ROW with book-writer Daniel Goldstein, under commission from New York Voices. In 2015 she presented a Ted Talk on the musical subject, transatlantic rower, Tori Murden McClure.
In the late seventies, the wood figures were replaced by moving animatronics. An interactive element was added by Peter Reijnders: when one moves the front gate, a crow on the roof caws, smoke comes out of the chimney, a black cat with yellow eyes comes out of a hole in the wall and the witch (voiced by Peter Reijnder's daughter) says "Knibbel, knabbel, knuisje, wie knabbelt aan mijn huisje?" (Dutch translation of "Nibble, nibble, mousekin, who's nibbling at my housekin?"). In 2016, the animatronics of Hansel and Gretel were replaced by more realistic versions of them.
The album received a positive review in The Wall Street Journal. A video was released on YouTube for the album's song "Beautiful Disguise" which featured Lloyd Cole and Joan Wasser on lead vocals."Beautiful Disguise", Folk Radio, YouTube. Retrieved 5 June 2019 Derby serves as a songwriter and producer for Gramercy Arms, a New York City musical and artist collective with members including Luna, Elk City, The Dambuilders, Guided by Voices, Shudder to Think, Joan As Police Woman, Mascott, Sparklehorse and A Girl Called Eddy, and notable artists Lloyd Cole, Tanya Donelly, Matthew Caws, Doug Gillard and Kay Hanley.
These locational calls are either a high-pitched series of one to three caw or hi sounds, or a series of longer caw sounds with a nasal aaa element to the call; the latter call may be used exclusively between mated pairs. Alarm calls are a rapid series of sharp caws. The birds also make a variety of squalling, guttural sounds, which may be done either quietly or excitedly. These sounds are typically accompanied by activities such as the ripping of leaves or the hammering of branches, and may serve as part of courtship or pair bonding.
Wagener gave a presentation on The Fabric of Collaboration. Other presenters at the symposium were Mary Ann Caws, Lisa Pearson, Kyle Schesinger, and Ward Schumaker. John Hawk, Head Librarian of Special Collections & University Archives at the University of San Francisco, contacted Wagener in December 2016 and asked him to consider writing a Foreword for a book he was writing on the California wood engraver Mallette Dean. After several meetings going over the prints in the university’s collection, Wagener agreed to write a short appreciation for Mallette Dean. In 2018 the Book Club of California published Mallette Dean, A Printmaker and His Art with Wagener’s Foreword.
A running gag in earlier seasons was the poor security of the plant, with the outside security booth often going unmanned, but this has changed in recent episodes, with the entrance to the plant being heavily guarded. The plant has come close to a meltdown several times and has blown up at least once. There is a crow or raven that lives near the Power Plant that caws whenever an establishing shot of the Power Plant is on screen. Mutated fish with more than two eyes have been seen in the lake behind the power plant, which has a large pipe pumping nuclear waste into it.
The subjectile is a kind of ground used in artistic painting. The word has also been used by Antonin Artaud and Jacques Derrida commented on its use.Derrida J., and Thévenin, P., The Secret Art of Antonin Artaud, Caws, Mary Ann, The MIT Press, 1998. The subjectile is seen as a theory, not a fact; as a theory the subjectile is a tool that can be employed to analyse art objects to generate hypotheses concerning the relationship between subject and object in art. Derrida mentions that the word 'subjectile' appears in an essayL’amour de L’art 2, no.8, Aout 1921 on Pierre Bonnard, published in 1921.
In the master bedroom, Angela finds the body of her red-bearded attacker, who has been murdered with the same pair of scissors she bought earlier. The only other living thing in the apartment with her is a caged raven, who caws repeatedly that Angela killed him. As Angela explores the apartment, she finds it is full of exhibits relating to her own psychology, it is clear at this point that someone wants to drive Angela into insanity. Meanwhile, Alex has discovered that Angie is missing and while trying to discover her whereabouts, his brother Cole suddenly stands up from his wheelchair, attacks Alex, and then mysteriously leaves.
Raspe also coordinated and served as executive producer on a tribute album for the New Jersey band Winter Hours for Main Man Records called "A Few Uneven Rhymes" in 2008. Artists on the recording included Gordon Gano (Violent Femmes), The Ryan Brothers, (The Bogmen), Matthew Caws (Nada Surf), and several members of The Feelies. In 2011, Raspe was a co-producer on another Main Man Records project; a tribute to the band The Runaways called, "Take It Or Leave It: A Tribute To The Queens of Noise, The Runaways". The album, while controversial, was critically lauded and featured performances by artists such as The Donnas, The Dandy Warhols and original Runaways singer Cherie Currie.
While noting the Beatles' fatigue on the album in reaction to their punishing schedule in 1964, Ewing views McCartney's narrative as "distinctly melancholy, his 'yes, I know I'm a lucky guy' sounding like an attempt to convince himself of that". In 2010, "Every Little Thing" appeared at number 91 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Beatles Songs". This song was revisited briefly during the stressful rehearsals that were recorded for the Beatles' Get Back/Let It Be project – Harrison describes it as "a good one" before starting to play the lick, McCartney joining in on vocals. Guesting on NPR's All Songs Considered, musician Matthew Caws selected "Every Little Thing" as his pick for "perfect song".
Nada Surf performing in 2012 In 2010, the band released If I Had a Hi-Fi, an album of covers including songs by the likes of Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, Spoon, and The Go-Betweens. Milwaukee noise rock band IfIHadAHiFi reciprocally titled their next album Nada Surf EP+3. In 2012, Nada Surf released The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy, an album which included the single "Waiting for Something" and introduced former Guided by Voices guitarist Doug Gillard as a fourth band member. In 2012, Caws, who had moved to England, recorded acoustic versions of five of the songs from The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy as b-sides, in collaboration with record producer Lee Russell.
The song "See These Bones" premiered on the Anti-Hit List Podcast on October 20, 2007. Due to a misquotation of Matthew Caws, the album was first expected to be called Time for Plan A. The album was released on February 4, 2008 in Europe; February 5, 2008 in the US, Canada and Australia; and February 18, 2008 in the UK and Japan. The original pressing includes a 4-song bonus disc. The song "Weightless" was featured on the television show Heroes, "See These Bones" was featured on the show One Tree Hill, "The Fox" was featured on the show The Riches, and "Beautiful Beat" was featured on the show How I Met Your Mother.
Although the stall warning was annunciated, investigators determined from the CVR that the aural takeoff warning was not annunciated by that warning system. The NTSB was unable to determine a cause for the electrical-power failure in the Central Aural Warning System (CAWS): The investigators had talked with other MD-80 pilots, and learned that many pilots found it a nuisance to hear a take off configuration warning ("Slats ... Slats... Slats....") while they were simply taxiing on the airport property. It was so common for pilots to pull the P-40 circuit breaker that the area around the circuit breaker was smudged from routinely being manipulated. This circuit breaker also controls some of the stall warning sounds.

SCMITR was part of the CAWS (Close Assault Weapon System) program, which investigated ~20 mm smoothbore weapons (basically combat shotguns) designed to be effective to ranges of 150 metres against combatants wearing body armor. Flechettes, with their high sectional density, were ideal for penetrating rigid or soft composite armor, but the wounds caused by the tiny darts were considered insufficient to disable an enemy combatant, as the tiny hole would quickly clot and cause relatively little bleeding. The SCMITR darts had the same sectional density as flechettes, but the wide, flat shape of the SCMITR produced a larger, more disabling wound. Since the SCMITR darts were stamped from sheet metal, they had only two fins, which is not enough to provide stability.
Such experiments did not simply affect the well- being of individual inmates, but also affected the health of entire cell blocks due to experimentation with biological agents including Hong Kong flu, poison ivy and poison oak. So common was the experimentation that in the 1,200-person prison facility, around 80 percent to 90 percent of inmates were experimented on. The rise of testing harmful substances on human subjects first became popularized in the United States when, during World War I, President Woodrow Wilson founded the Chemical Warfare Service (CAWS) . The Armed Forces Medical Policy Council (AFMPC), for moral and ethical reasons, disagreed with the use of testing human patients, arguing that all testing must be done on volunteers who consented to the experiments.
In the early 1980s, Jonathan had been part of punk/psych/experimental group The Killer Asparagus (in the Boston area) and punk pop band The Degrads (in Rochester, NY, along with his brother Sam Elwitt). Jonathan started recording cassettes at home in 1984, and in 1986 he asked his wife Hilary Caws-Elwitt to join him on vocals, choosing the name The Silly Pillows for the project. The first Silly Pillows recordings were circulated on cassette through the growing network of home tapers, spurred by positive reviews in the magazines Option and Sound Choice (who said that "their whole catalog is essential listening").Jack Jordan, Sound Choice, Summer 1990, No. 15, p 85 In 1992, Hilary decided to stop singing, but by then their cassettes had attracted some attention in Europe.

Two days later, a company from the King's conducted a nighttime diversionary raid on Chinese positions known as "Pheasant". The summit can be accessed from several directions: one route starts at Ogwen Cottage on the shores of Llyn Idwal and approaches the mountain from the north; another starts at Pen-y-Pass and approaches it from the south; another possibility is to approach it from the east along the ridge from Glyder Fach. Although there is much shattered stone near the summit of Glyder Fach, the ridge between the two summits is fairly level and easy going. A scrambling, circuit route encompasses the three summits of Tryfan, Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr and takes six or seven hours. One of the most popular routes from Ogwen Cottage follows the shore of Llyn Idwal to the base of the famous Rhiwiau Caws (Idwal Slabs) rock climbing crag, it then makes its way out of the cwm via the steep Twll Du path, arriving at a small lake called Llyn Y Cŵn.
As the District established a new Chicago Area Waterway System (CAWS), new advancements in water treatment technology were made, leading to the creation of treatment plants and interceptor sewers that conveyed water from local collection systems to the plants for treatment. The MWRD constructed 560 miles of intercepting sewers and force mains ranging in size from 6 inches to 27 feet in diameter. The intercepting sewers are fed by approximately 10,000 local sewer system connections and are critical in managing stormwater and preserving the waterways. From 1955 through 1988, the District was called The Metropolitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago. In order to provide a more accurate perception of the District’s current functions and responsibilities, the name was changed effective, January 1, 1989, to Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater ChicagoJoseph T. Zurad, The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago: Our Second Century of Meeting Challenges and Achieving Success, ASCE, 1996 by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Act.

In 1996, the possibility of a Japanese tour led Jonathan to assemble a lineup that could perform live: Jonathan (vocals), Sam (guitar), Michael E. Fiato (bass), Dave Joachim (drums; later a best-selling cookbook author), singer- songwriter/artist Linda Smith (vocals), and Charlie Zayleskie (keyboards). Although the tour never happened, the Silly Pillows performed in New York and a few other locations, opening for some well-known acts like The Magnetic Fields. Belinda Miller of the kids' radio show Greasy Kid Stuff later became the female co-vocalist; Time Out New York likened the Caws-Elwitt–Miller stage presence to "Mexican jumping beans."Time Out New York, February 12–19, 1998 In Japan, where a split single (with Citrus) on Rover Records had reached No. 3 on the domestic singles chart, enthusiasm was high enough that a subsidiary of major Japanese label Teichiku Records released a "best-of" compilation, Pillow Paw Prints, in 1997.
