After completing her PhD in 1952, Almond had a job offer from Ferranti but instead began working on palaeomagnetism with Peter Stubbs and John Clegg in a group established by Professor Patrick Blackett. Their research on Late Triassic New Red Sandstone indicated that England had rotated 34° and moved towards the north pole over geological time and is regarded as playing an important role in convincing Earth scientists of the importance of palaeomagnetism in studying Earth history. The magnetometer, one of the pieces equipment used, required a large gold bar and Almond, who was dating and later married the technician (Jim) who transported the gold bar, would joke about hacking off a small piece for her wedding ring. Almond married around this time and moved, with Blackett, from the University of Manchester to Imperial College, London and stayed until 1954 when she left on a career break to have a children.

Alder was educated at Lady Margaret School in Parsons Green, Fulham, London, followed by the University of Edinburgh, graduating with First Class Honours to join the Royal College of Music's International Opera School where she was the inaugural Kiri Te Kanawa scholar. Alder received her first career break jumping in as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier for Glyndebourne Festival Opera at the BBC Proms in 2014, where critics noted she was 'a sparkling Sophie who won all hearts' (Barry Millington, Evening Standard) and that she 'confirmed that she's ready for top billing' (Kimon Daltas, The Arts Desk). Since then Der Rosenkavalier has become something of a calling card for her, performing it at Oper Frankfurt (2016), Welsh National Opera (2017) and Glyndebourne Festival Opera (2018). She has been a member of the solo ensemble at Oper Frankfurt since 2014, when she jumped in again to sing Gretel in a new production of Hänsel und Gretel directed by Keith Warner and conducted by Sebastian Weigle to notable acclaim.
Somers has over 30 years of experience in major Infrastructure development in the United States and Asia—starting in the oil and gas industry on the drilling rigs of West Texas, transitioning to hydroelectric and IPP development, and then onwards to senior management for international companies of upstream, midstream, and downstream energy and power assets. After graduating from Middlebury College, Somers worked as a roughneck on the oil rigs of Midland, Texas, where he came to know future President of the United States George W. Bush. The young Bush helped Somers to get his first real career break as a landman. He soon moved to California, where he supported in 1981 the development of the first privately owned, commercial-sized run-of-river hydroelectric project in the western United States—the Bailey Creek Ranch Project, followed by the Montgomery Creek Hydroelectric Project—both of which are considered 'model' environmental projects even today.
Jimmie Nicol's career break came in 1957 when he was talent spotted by Larry Parnes whilst drumming with various bands in London's The 2i's Coffee Bar, a time that saw Britain's skiffle-dominated music scene giving way to rock and roll which was being popularised by its Teddy Boy youth. Parnes invited Nicol to join Colin Hicks & The Cabin Boys whom Parnes co-managed with John Kennedy (Colin Hicks is the younger brother of English entertainer Tommy Steele, whom Parnes also managed). After taking a temporary break from the group to be a member of the original pit band in the Lionel Bart musical Fings Ain't Wot They Used T'Be at the Theatre Royal Stratford East Nicol rejoined Hicks's band for their appearance in the 1958 Italian film documentary Europa Di Notte, breaking them in Italy and subsequently allowing them to tour there extensively. During the early sixties, Nicol went on to play for a number of artists, including Vince Eager, Oscar Rabin, and Cyril Stapleton and was kept in regular work through Charlie Katz, a well-known session fixer during that period.
