She enjoyed playing baseball with boys in the neighborhood, and earned the nickname "Tomboy." Her mother, who was worried that baseball was not ladylike, bought a pair of figure skates for Stone.

Goodyear was established in 1917 with the purchase of of land by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company to cultivate cotton for vehicle tire cords. World War II was important to Goodyear in the 1940s as the current Phoenix Goodyear Airport was built, but after the war, the economy suffered. Goodyear became a town on November 19, 1946. At the time, it had 151 homes and 250 apartments, a grocery store, a barber shop, beauty shop and a gas station.

Congresbury is a large village and has several public houses. There is a wide variety of shops, many of them owned by individuals offering specialist products. In 2013, in the village precinct on Brinsea Road there is a Costcutter general store, baker and sandwich shop, butcher, post office, fish and chip shop, farmers' general store and, nearby, two small car dealerships. Near the village cross in the High Street there is a carpet shop, window shop, hairdresser/beauty shop and one of the public houses.

Denton State Supported Living Center, located in southeastern Denton south of Downtown Denton and north of Downtown Dallas, houses approximately 650 residents, many of whom are medically fragile and require constant medical care. Most have severe to profound mental retardation and over half navigate the campus with wheelchairs or power chairs. The Denton State School employs about 1,500 staff and has a budget in excess of $44 million annually. The campus has a central kitchen, 30-bed infirmary, canteen, cemetery, dental clinic, beauty shop, swimming pool, sheltered workshops, and central laundry.

The House Beauty Shop originated as a privately-owned and independently operated beauty salon located in the Longworth House Office Building, one of three main office buildings on the Capitol devoted to the House of Representatives. Established in 1932 by beautician Mabel Solomon, it primarily served the women of Capitol Hill, including members of Congress, their wives, as well as Congressional staffers. By the 1960s, the shop was estimated to have earned nearly $150,000 annually. It benefited from the fact that the House of Representatives provided space and utilities for free.

Barbershop is an American comedy film franchise that started in 2002 with Barbershop, directed by Tim Story. Barbershop 2: Back in Business was directed by Kevin Rodney Sullivan and released in 2004, while the third film, Barbershop: The Next Cut directed by Malcolm D. Lee, was released in April 2016. Alderbrook Center opened in 1941 featuring a soda fountain and sandwich shop, and in 1944 they opened the Flagwood gift shop, the Alderbrook Apparel Shop and Alderbrook Beauty Shop. In 1945, they retired and sold the corporation to the Schafer family, owners of Schafer Logging and Lumber Company. Clara Eastwood retained the westernmost Sunny Beach lot where the Flagwood gift shop was located and built a cabin for herself. Schafer remodeled the Inn and added 21 vacation cottages next to the property and then sold the Inn to the Dickman Lumber Company.

Ground was broken on July 25, 1924 and the building was completed just over one year later for a total cost of $1.36 million—Hilton's second most costly Texas highrise. The hotel officially opened on Thursday, August 6, 1925. Hilton maximized all available space in the public areas of the hotel for an assortment of vending services. The presence of the druggist, men's shop, barber shop, valet service, beauty shop, coffee shop, tailor, cigar/news stand, telegraph office, dining room and others dovetailed with Hilton's emphasis on service while the rents those services paid supplemented the finances of the operation.

Leonard Swidler was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Josephine Marie Reed Swidler (1901–62) and Samuel Swidler (1897–1984). His father was a Ukrainian Jew who had come to the U.S. at age 15, and his mother was an Irish-American Catholic. Eventually the family moved to Cumberland, Wisconsin, and then to Green Bay, where his parents owned and operated the Bay Beauty Shop until after World War II, when they bought a home in Allouez and set up a beauty parlor there. Samuel worked in a paper mill in DePere and Josephine continued to run the hair salon.

The Massachusetts Parking Shops is a historical neighborhood shopping area built in 1936, among the first developments to integrate the automobile and shopping with off-street parking. It was developed in the modern Colonial Revival style by C. H. Hillegeist following the designs of E. Burton Corning. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. Among the first stores in the small complex were a Sanitary Food Store and an A & P Grocery, a pharmacy, Homewood Hardware, Knife & Fork Delicatessen, Pat-a-Cake Bake Shop, Homewood Beauty Shop, Palace Laundry and a Gulf Oil filling station.

In 1919, Washington founded the Apex News and Hair Company in Atlantic City, New Jersey and began her career as a cosmetics entrepreneur. She experimented with a variety of cosmetic products, targeting the market of African American women. While Washington started with a one-room beauty shop, she was able to grow her business into an empire by working in her beauty salon during the day and canvassing for her cosmetic products at night. The Apex Beauty Products Company encompassed a variety of products, from pressing oils, hot combs, and pomades for hair to perfumes, beauty creams, and lipsticks.

On 30 June, the War Department opened the program to any man between 18 and 36 who could meet the physical and mental requirements, including civilians as well as officers and enlisted men. At Kirtland Field, the Glider Replacement Center operated until February 1943. In May 1943, a Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) contingent was established at Kirtland Field with the arrival of 45 women on base. WAAC quarters built at Kirtland Field included barracks, a day room, beauty shop, and supply room. A WAAC open house for the new post was held in August 1943 and several hundred men with their wives and families attended.

This small community actually had four barber shops at one time.

Divine kept his involvement with Waters and these early underground films a secret from his conservative parents, believing that they would not understand them or the reason for his involvement in such controversial and bad-taste films; they would not find out about them for many years. Divine's parents had bought him his own beauty shop in Towson, hoping that the financial responsibility would help him to settle down in life and stop spending so extravagantly. While agreeing to work there, he refused to be involved in owning and managing the establishment, leaving that to his mother. Parkland College in Champaign features a small theatre called the Parkland College Theatre and a planetarium called the William M. Staerkel Planetarium. These included a candy store, ice cream store, two gasoline stations, a laundromat, a bar, two cafes, three restaurants, two car-garages, a Ford agency, a church, a movie theatre, two grocery stores, a dress shop, a telephone office (to connect callers via party line), a print shop, a chainsaw shop, a sporting goods store, a beauty shop and an apple orchard along a 400 meter stretch of the Avenue of the Giants. She also listed thirteen homes in lower Weott. The 1955 flood destroyed or damaged beyond repair the theatre, two motels, a grocery, a service station, the bar and a restaurant.

An Olympic-sized pool to be filled with the curing mineral waters, it was the first swimming pool built at a hotel in Texas. Margaret Heldt dies aged 98, The Guardian, Retrieved 25 June 2016 The editor of the magazine Modern Beauty Shop in February 1960 encouraged Heldt, who was already a hairstyling champion and owned an upscale salon, to come up with "something really different" for the new decade, and she devised what became known as the beehive hairstyle based on a small black hat. The first example was on a model who was wearing a small bee decoration in her hair and Heldt says this is how it came to be known as a beehive. She said that the ideal ratio of hair to face was two to one. She objected to later adaptions of her design by women like Amy Winehouse.

Java Cabana, Cooper-Young's coffeehouse, was once host to the Elvis Impersonator shrine, as well as the Viva Wedding Chapel, where hundreds of people were once married in the backroom by Elvis impersonators. Other restaurants such as Cafe Ole, Tsunami, Soul Fish, Cafe Palladio, Celtic Crossing, Alchemy, Aldo's Pizza Pies, Sweet Grass, Next Door, DKDC, The Beauty Shop, and Young Ave Deli represent diverse cuisines (sometimes several within one establishment) and reflect the creative spirit of the neighborhood. Also in Cooper Young, one will find The House of Mews (a shelter for homeless cats), Goner Records, a local record label, Jay Etkin Gallery and Burke's Book Store.

Suzi-Cue Pool Hall is the oldest tenant in the Indianola Park Shopping Center. In 1948, Indianola Park was converted into Indianola Park Shopping Center, and the pool was filled in and paved over for a parking lot. The former dance pavilion became an Ohio Giant Market, and a dozen or so other shops and restaurants were built around its perimeters by 1952, such as a flower shop, a beauty shop, a bakery, a gift shop, an appliance store, a fashion boutique, a dry cleaner, a pharmacy, a laundromat, a finance center, a hardware store, a variety store, and a restaurant.Indianola Park: "1948" With the influx of students at the end of the Vietnam War, Ohio State enrollment went up to almost 50,000 students.

The area has originated a great deal of musical talent, starting with REO Speedwagon, Head East, Dan Fogelberg and including HUM, Poster Children, Hardvark, The Moon Seven Times, Braid, AMASONG, Castor, National Skyline, Love Cup, Absinthe Blind, Headlights and The Beauty Shop. Some lesser known artists like Alma Afrobeat Ensemble, Zirafa and Spinnerty, d-Lo, Bozak, Melodic Scribes, DJ Librarian, UC Hiphop, and Zmick are also worthy of note on simply a local scale. Champaign-Urbana is relatively well known for producing a rich array of emo, college rock, and black metal. Opening in 1990 in the heart of downtown Champaign, the Blind Pig Co on Taylor St was one of the first businesses to lead the renaissance of the formerly deserted downtown district.

In the port city, with its many different influences and cultures, Dove experienced his most interesting adventures. He worked as a painter on a steamship (but did not paint anything), fooled a prostitute who was trying to rob him, sold coffeepots and "beauty certificates" (which supposedly entitled the bearer to a treatment at a beauty shop) while seducing the women to whom he was selling, and, in his most memorable escapade, worked in a condom factory. The condoms, which were called O-Daddies and bore interesting names and colors, were made in a house by a mom-and-pop firm, Velma and Rhino Gross. Dove's lengthiest stay was with the people who inhabited the twin worlds of Oliver Finnerty's brothel and Doc Dockery's speakeasy.

The creation of U.S. Route 6, which passed through Mineral, was also an asset to the town, bringing in visitors from all over the country. Mineral enjoyed great successes through the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, continuing to support its own school system and several small businesses including, at one time, three gas stations, three restaurant/taverns, an upholstery store, a motel, two grain elevators, two churches, a lumber yard, two grocery stores, a bank, a volunteer fire department, a library, a barbershop, a beauty shop, an ice cream parlor and Mineral High School. In 1961, the high school was closed due to a lack of sufficient enrollment. The Mineral School District agreed to an annexation effort into the Annawan School District.

After making her film debut in The Shepherd of the Southern Cross (1914), Pearce went to England with the aim of carving out a career there but was induced to return to Australia shortly afterwards by Hugh D. McIntosh, General Manager of Harry Rickards Tivoli Theatres Ltd. Pearce made her return to the Australian stage in November 1914 as one of the stars of the Tivoli Follies revue, and remained with the show throughout its two and a half year tour around the country. Among the other productions she appeared in over the next seven years were The Beauty Shop (1917), My Lady Frayle (1919), The Officers' Mess (1919), His Little Widows (1920) and Chu Chin Chow (1920), in which she played Zahrat-al-Kulub opposite Charles H. Workman (as Ali Baba).

Görlitz department store, 2011 The Görlitz department store in Görlitz is one of the best preserved department stores from the beginning of the twentieth century. It is built in the Art Nouveau style"Welcome to Görlitz, the perfect German town that’s a movie star in its own right" by Ryan Gilbey, The Guardian, 20 January 2015 and was operated as a department store until August 15, 2009. The city and a citizens' action group tried to revitalize the department store which in 2012 housed only a beauty shop. In 2013, a private investor was found, who would like to obtain the facility as a universal department store, as the Department Store of Upper Lusatia (, KaDeO) and thus a counterpart to the Berlin department store Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe).

Recording of their debut album was completed in Dublin in late 2000 with producer Daniel Presley, who had previously worked with The Breeders, however complications with the American deal delayed its release. Shoeshine Records in Glasgow then signed the band and in July 2002 Boa Morte's debut album Soon It Will Come Time to Face the World Outside was released to critical acclaim, including 4-Star reviews in Uncut, Mojo, Q Magazine and The Irish Times. The album was released globally and played on BBC's John Peel radio show, and was selected for the Hot Press magazine "250 Greatest Irish Albums Of All Time" list. The band played live extensively, including supporting acts such as Teenage Fanclub, Calexico and Howe Gelb, as well as headline shows around Ireland and a UK tour with label-mates The Beauty Shop and Major Matt Mason USA.

St Paul's Church The village has two churches. The Church of England parish church is St Paul's, a Grade II Listed Building from 1842, which replaced a much earlier Chapel of Ease on Gateland Lane which had been disused and had vanished by then, as stones were taken for other buildings. The Shadwell Methodist Chapel dates from 1892, and replaced the smaller building on the opposite side of the road which was the Methodist Chapel from 1814 to 1892 and is also Grade II. This now serves as a library, which has operated independently since 2013,Shadwell Library, Arts Centre and Café, accessed 24 January 2017 Other buildings include a primary school, The Red Lion pub, the Village Hall, a social club, a tennis club, a golf club and six shops (clothing shop, beauty shop, dry cleaner, fish and chip shop (itself a Grade II listed building dating from 1637), post-office/newsagent and a hairdresser. There is also a cricket club.

Downtown Pescadero on Stage Road, looking south, May 2008 Pescadero State Beach is located on Highway 1, roughly two miles west of town Pescadero is a farming and ranching community near the Pescadero Marsh, a wildlife refuge. Pescadero Creek, the longest stream in San Mateo County, is an annual creek that empties into the Pacific Ocean near the town. Pescadero is also a weekend tourist destination during the summer months because of beaches, parks including Memorial Park and Butano State Park, Pigeon Point Lighthouse and Hostel, as well as extensive rural roads for biking and trails for hiking in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Attractions include Duarte's Tavern, Arcangeli Grocery Co (Norm's Market / Bakery), Sante Family Wines, Made in Pescadero (a furniture store), Downtown Local (a coffee shop), The Sunshine (a boutique grocery store), Pescadero Essentials (a health/beauty shop) Harley Farms Goat Dairy, South Coast Children's Services Thrift Shop, Luna Sea art gallery, several shanties kept by local craftspeople, R & R Herbs, the Pie Ranch Farmstand, the Pescadero Farmers Market that runs from June through October, and Taqueria y Mercado de Amigos, an acclaimed taqueria in the local gas station.
