The origins of the word are a point of debate. An early use is in the novel A bad lot by Brian Glanville (1977). According to Alex Leith's book Over the Moon, Brian - The Language of Football, "nuts refers to the testicles of the player through whose legs the ball has been passed and nutmeg is just a development from this". The use of the word nutmeg to mean leg, in Cockney rhyming slang, has also been put forward as an explanation.

In January 626 Muhammad led the final expedition to Badr, an appointment for a pitched battle between the Quraysh and the Muslims. The battle did not take place because the Meccan army never arrived. Hassan ibn Thabit composed a poem about the situation: We stayed by the shallow well eight nights … Take Abu Sufyan [ibn Harb] a message from me, for you are the best of a bad lot. "Cara Estranho" is the first single extracted from Ventura album, the band Los Hermanos, the name of the band is Portuguese for "Strange Man". The band, consisting of Marcelo Camelo, as well as other album repertoire, presented in pre-production, a dissenting letter of its final version. Its structure is home to no chorus, turning the verses that begin with "Look" / "Look over there" in striking parts of the song, since there are no elements that are repeated in music. In addition, the verses "It's part of the game / tell the world all / only know their bad lot" and "It's simple like that / when it shrinks the chest / and pretend there is no competition" are also quite sung in their submissions to alive.

When Shockwave arranged for the capture and extradition of Prime and Megatron's forces as war criminals, Soundwave was among the captives, but when Starscream jettisoned Megatron into space on the return trip to Cybertron, Soundwave made the best of a bad lot and teamed with Starscream to return to Earth and conquer it, being reunited with Ratbat in the process. Heading back to Earth in a kidnapped Sky Lynx and with the Combaticons now added to their ranks, the Decepticons attacked the Ark in hopes of acquiring parts to make the Nemesis spaceworthy again, however Soundwave, Skywarp and Thundercracker were defeated and thrown in the Ark's brig. When the Combaticons, combined as Bruticus, laid into the vessel, they were freed. It was not much later that the surviving Megatron made contact with Soundwave from space, and Soundwave was all too willing to return to his service, setting up Starscream to fall before Megatron when he returned.
