Kokomo is a blues & roots group, based in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty. Originally 'Kokomo Blues', the group was formed in 1991. The band has toured extensively throughout New Zealand, performing at major rock, blues, jazz and folk festivals. While attending the Ontario College of Art, Kurt produced his first multi-track recording of experimental music and used the tapes in improvised multi-media performances with slide projectors. After moving to Toronto in 1984 he began presenting his songs on acoustic guitar using an array of effect pedals. From 1984 to 1988 he independently released six album length cassettes of original songs. In 1990 the indie label Fringe Product released his CD PoMo A GoGo, recorded in a 24 track studio and which featured an array of musicians including Glenn Milchem (Blue Rodeo), Holly Cole, Chis Tait (Chalk Circle), Rebecca Jenkins, Hugh Marsh, Curtis Driedger, and Kim Deschamps.

Mitchel Arnold, Phillip Vilenski, Dean Pizzazz, Tyler Coburn were four midwestern natives that all met in Los Angeles and built a band around Mitch and Phill's songwriting. One of their first gigs was becoming the house band at the Whisky A Go Go. While playing the Whisky A Gogo, they caught the ear of Michael Gurley (Dada) and Florian Ammon (Rammstein, Mariah Carey, U2) and they began developing twelve songs which would become their self titled debut album. They brought and introduced the band to Jude Cole and Keifer Sutherland and his label, Ironworks Records after winning the KLOS Battle Of The Bands. They recorded at the famous Can Am studios in Los Angeles.

OK Go's distinctive, choreography-heavy performance style first originated from a 1999 appearance on the Chicago-based public television show "Chic-a-GoGo"; WBEZ radio personalities Peter Sagal, Jerome McDonnell of Worldview, Gretchen Helfrich (formerly of Odyssey) and Ira Glass pretended to play instruments to "C-C-C-Cinnamon Lips" as OK Go danced, because the band wasn't allowed to play live on the show. On August 31, 2006, OK Go appeared live at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards performing their treadmill routine for "Here It Goes Again". On November 7, 2006, OK Go released a deluxe limited edition CD/DVD of the album Oh No. The DVD contains their music videos (dancing and playing instruments), a video of 180 fans performing the "A Million Ways" dance for a YouTube contest, previously unseen footage, and a behind-the-scenes look at their treadmill rehearsals for the "Here It Goes Again" video and for the MTV VMAs.
