Hazeldene won three national amateur titles in snooker and one in billiards between 1951 and 1971. She came out of retirement from playing to participate in the 1976 Women's World Open snooker championship, having to win through a qualifying competition in Leeds to join the main draw. Much of its organizing is focused on challenging military recruiters and ending corporate profit from war. With GVSU winning the NCAA Division II National Championship, as a junior Finnerty was named the 2005 GLIAC Offensive Back of the Year, and First-Team All-GLIAC Quarterback. Finnerty was given Honorable Mention on Don Hansen's Football Gazette All- American Team. Finnerty completed 157-of-273 passes for 2,459 yards and 22 touchdowns, while rushing for 523 yards and nine touchdowns himself on the season. In the National Championship match versus Northwest Missouri State University, Finnerty completed 12-of-19 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown, while rushing himself for 59 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries in the win. Through his first 3 seasons, Finnerty recorded a 36-4 record as a starting QB, and produced a 9-1 NCAA Div.

Bird won the pole position by setting the fastest lap in qualifying and held the lead despite Techeetah's Jean-Éric Vergne clattering into his left-hand sidepod and spinning 180 degrees on the race's opening lap. António Félix da Costa of BMW Andretti passed Bird to move into first place on lap ten and pulled away to lead the following fourteen laps until a collision on lap 26 with his teammate Alexander Sims careened him into a barrier. That promoted d'Ambrosio into the lead, which he maintained through a safety car period; he held off Frijns on the final lap to win by 0.143 seconds. It was d'Ambrosio's third career victory and his first without having inherited the win through driver disqualifications.

Chelsea started December with a home win against Southampton, continuing their strong home form in the league. The Saints took a shock early lead, Jay Rodriguez finding the back of the net with only 13 seconds on the clock. The Blues came back to win through second half goals from John Terry, Gary Cahill and a late goal from substitute Demba Ba. Chelsea's next match saw them defeat a spirited Sunderland side 3–4 in a thrilling, topsy-turvy encounter at the Stadium of Light; yet again the Blues went behind but were able to fight back to get the win following a mercurial display by Eden Hazard, who scored a brace. After three wins on the trot, Chelsea went to the Britannia Stadium looking to close the gap on leaders Arsenal to one point.

During the English Civil War, the army of King Charles I stayed at Daventry in 1645 after storming the Parliamentary garrison at Leicester and on its way to relieve the siege of Oxford. The Royalist army, made up of 5,000-foot and as many horse, camped on Borough Hill (then spelt Burrow Hill) while Charles went hunting in the nearby forests. According to local legend, it was during his stay at the Wheatsheaf Inn in Daventry that Charles was twice visited by the ghost of his former adviser and friend, Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford, who advised him to keep heading north and warned him that he would not win through force of arms. However, Parliament's newly formed New Model Army, led by Sir Thomas Fairfax, was marching north from besieging Oxford after being instructed to engage the king's main army.

Kenya won the toss and booked themselves a match against Rwanda in the quarter-finals. In the quarter-finals, Rwanda proved to be very tough opposition for Kenya, who narrowly managed to grab a win through a penalty kick from Jockins Atudo, after the ball was handled in the box by Michel Rusheshangoga. The goal was Atudo's third goal of the tournament, his third from the penalty spot, making him Kenya's top scorer of the tournament and sending Kenya through to the semi-finals. In their semi-final clash against Tanzania, Kenya won the game in the 3rd minute, after Thika United's Clifton Miheso pounced on a ball that was punched into his path by Gor Mahia's Ivo Mapunda.

During the 2006 off-season, Havlát, a restricted free agent, told the Senators that he would only sign a one-year deal so he could then test the free agent market in the next off-season. As a result, on July 9, 2006, Havlát was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, along with Bryan Smolinski, in a three-way deal that also involved the San Jose Sharks acquiring Mark Bell for Tom Preissing and Josh Hennessy. After the trade, Havlát signed a three-year, $18 million contract with the Blackhawks. As his usual number 9 was retired by the Blackhawks for Hall of Famer Bobby Hull, he switched to 24. On October 5, 2006, Havlát made his Blackhawks debut in outstanding fashion against the Nashville Predators by scoring two goals and two assists in an 8–6 win. Through the first seven games of the season, he was near or at the top of the League in scoring until he went down with an ankle sprain late in a game against the Dallas Stars on October 20, 2006.

They defeated Union Oberschöneweide 3:2 in the quarterfinals before going out 4:0 to SpVgg Fürth. The club's 1920–21 campaign ended in another divisional title win through a 2:1 victory over Viktoria, but they suffered another early exit from the national playoffs when beaten 1:2 by Wacker Halle. VBS earned three more Südostdeutschland championships from 1922 to 1924. In 1922, they were eliminated in qualifying play for the national championship by Viktoria Forst (1:6), but captured the division title by beating Viktoria 7:3 in the semifinals and then overcoming Preußen Kattowitz 5:1 in the final. Quarterfinal appearances in the German championships ended in defeat in each of the following two seasons; 0:4 to SpVgg Fürth in 1923, and 0:3 to Hamburger SV in 1924.

With young players such as leading goal kicker Greg Mellor, full forward Tony Modra, and best and fairest Peter Banfield playing alongside returning experienced veterans such as captain Leon Grosser (who would miss the Grand Final through injury), Glenn Goss, as well as Mickan and Lindner (who while playing for the Adelaide Crows in the AFL, had played enough games with West through the season to qualify for the finals), West easily defeated three-time defending premiers Port Adelaide by 89 points in the Elimination Final before winning the First Semi against Woodville-West Torrens (a new team formed through the merger of West Torrens and Woodville at the end of 1990) by 60.
