Images from the patent application suggest Apple is thinking of this mostly as a way to let accessories be waterproof — so rather than the generator being inside an iPhone, the generator would instead go inside an accessory that needs additional waterproofing, allowing it to safely go underwater while connected to the phone.

In a smaller training room, a technician laid out the tools Apple uses to fix iPhone screens: special screwdrivers for the iPhone's five- and three-lobed screws, a custom suction-cup for loosening the screen without tearing the delicate ribbon cables behind it, and a press to squeeze iPhone 7s to ensure waterproofing.

The biggest changes come from the addition of waterproofing, which allows you to safely take your Kindle to the beach or in the bath without worrying about it getting wet; and Bluetooth technology, which allows you to listen to Audible ebooks when you pair your Kindle with Bluetooth headphones or a speaker.

In terms of appearance and basic specs, this is no great departure from the Gear Fit2 that the Pro is replacing, but the big deal is that Samsung has upgraded the waterproofing to a depth of 50 meters and it's also added a continuous heart rate tracker that will keep a constant watchful eye on your life signals.

And Apple is slowly making it more appealing to use the Watch away from your phone — AirPods are by far the most convenient earphone solution yet, and the Series 2 watches have features like GPS tracking and waterproofing that are designed for running and swimming, both examples of situations where it may be impractical to have your phone nearby.

And in what has been one of the most-requested features for the device, the new Paperwhite also features IPX224 waterproofing, meaning it can be dunked in up to six feet of water for up to an hour — which should make it more than safe for reading in a tub, by a pool, or on the beach.

Apple has revealed its 2018 class of iPhones, and they all have fancy top-to-bottom screens like last year's iPhone X. The 5.8-inch iPhone XS and 6.5-inch XS Max both expand on what the X could do, with faster processors and more durable glass, better waterproofing, louder speakers, longer battery life, and "smart" HDR along with some other camera enhancements.

The LG V20 was an "everything-but-the-kitchen-sink" sort of phone, one that packed in tons of features like dual cameras, 32-bit quad DAC, and, of course, a second display right above the screen, although it was held back by a few issues, including the massive size of the device and lack of waterproofing (as noted by my colleague Chris Welch in his review).
