During the event, she introduced a new diving form called the "volplane". Following her Pacific Coast title victory, Meyer issued a challenge to national divers. On September 3, 1917, Meyer won a diving contest at the Astoria Regatta. That year, she began training for competitive high diving events from 16 and 24 foot platforms.

The sugar glider is one of a number of volplane (gliding) possums in Australia. It glides with the fore- and hind- limbs extended at right angles to the body, with feet flexed upwards. The animal launches itself from a tree, spreading its limbs to expose the gliding membranes. This creates an aerofoil enabling it to glide or more.

Deren Michael Ney (born April 26) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist from San Francisco, California. He has been lead guitarist for Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers. He made his solo debut in 2019 with "West Coast Mama" on Volplane Records. Guitar World editor and The Allman Brothers Band biographer Alan Paul (author) has described Ney as "a secret weapon of sorts".

He was awarded the King George V Silver Jubilee Medal in 1935 and the Coronation Medal in 1937. On October 18, 2019, Ney released a single "West Coast Mama" on Volplane Records. The video followed two weeks later. The backing band included Tim Lefebvre (David Bowie, Tedeschi Trucks Band), Pete Levin (Gregg Allman, The Highwomen), and Ryan Avellone (The Brothers Comatose). Dave Mulligan and Mike Curry of The Gramblers, Los Angeles-based singer Lauren Barth, and The Mother Hips' Greg Loiacono sing harmonies.

In 1946, Lamason was asked to be the lead pilot to test the flight paths for a new British airport. As part of the agreement, he was offered a farm in Berkshire. However, family said he needed to be home instead and Heathrow Airport went ahead without him.
