The cells are coccoid during the stationary phase, and irregular rods during the exponential phase. It was first isolated from the surfaces of Beaufort and Gruyère cheeses in 1978, along with Brachybacterium alimentarium. Further work led to the proposal of the new species in 1996, and the name is derived from the Latin tyros (cheese) and fermentans (leavening), referring to the fermented cheese from which it was first isolated.

On his three-year-old debut he won the 2000 Guineas and followed up in the Irish 2,000 Guineas three weeks later.

The Dersios sinkhole (Greek: Σπηλαιοκαταβόθρα "Ο Δέρσιος" Spilaiokatavothra "O Dhersios") is a sinkhole in Arcadia, Greece. The sinkhole, which has a depth of , has been known since antiquity and is located towards the north end of the plateau of Palaiochora at a height of 750 m above sea level on mount Parnon. It is about 45 minutes on unsurfaced road from the nearest town of Tyros in the Kynouria region of Arcadia. The sinkhole was first explored in August 1974 to a depth of by a French team (in collaboration with the Hellenic Speleological Society).

Zoffany (foaled 18 March 2008) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. He was one of the best two-year-old of 2010 in Ireland when he won five of his seven races including the Golden Fleece Stakes, Tyros Stakes and Phoenix Stakes. In the following year he failed to win a race but produced a career- best effort to run Frankel to three quarters of a length in the St James's Palace Stakes. He was retired from racing at the end of the year to become a breeding stallion and made a very promising start to his stud career.

Anthony Van Dyck (foaled 19 May 2016) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse, best known for winning the 2019 Epsom Derby. He was a top-class two-year-old in 2018 when he won three of his seven races including the Tyros Stakes and the Futurity Stakes as well as finishing second in the National Stakes and third in the Dewhurst Stakes. He won the Derby Trial Stakes on his three-year-old debut before taking the Epsom Derby on 1 June. Later that year he was placed in the Irish Derby, Irish Champion Stakes and Breeders' Cup Turf.

The Royal Lodge Stakes winner Foundation started favourite whilst Marcel was the 33/1 outsider in the seven runner field. After the 1968 Games, Fox, then a sergeant in the REME, announced his retirement but he was dissuaded by his coach, Ron Bright, and remained in the sport for another eight years. During that period he set a fine example to the tyros of the sport and following his final individual effort at the 1972 Olympics he won a team gold medal in Modern Pentathlon at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, with Danny Nightingale and Adrian Parker. Fox, who was later commissioned as a Captain in the REME, was first awarded the MBE and subsequently the OBE for his services to the sport.

Having received this amount of money, the King went to spend his last days in Amathus Athenaeus claims that Alexander the Great gave the same city to Pnytagoras, the King of Salamina, as he had assisted him with the invasion and capture of Tyros. The temple of Aphrodite and perhaps other public buildings were rebuilt at the beginning of the Hellenistic period. It is assumed that there was an alteration to the city character and political structure, and new public buildings built.

In August he was moved up in distance for the seven furlong Tyros Stakes in which he conceded weight to four opponents and won "comfortably" from the British-trained colt Sharp Play, despite drifting to the right in the closing stages. On his final start of the season, King of Kings ran in Ireland's most prestigious two-year-old race, the Group One National Stakes over one mile. Settled by Roche in the early stages, he was moved forward to take the lead a furlong from the finish and won by three quarters of a length from his stable companion Celtic Cavalier. He sustained a knee injury during the race and did not run again in 1997.

Anthony Van Dyck began his racing career by finishing seventh behind Klute in a maiden race over seven furlongs at the Curragh on 1 July. Two weeks later the colt was made the 10/11 favourite for a similar event over one mile at Killarney Racecourse in which he was ridden, as on his debut, by his trainer's son Donnacha O'Brien. He recorded his first success as he took the lead two furlongs out and went clear of his eight rivals to win "easily" by eight lengths. Eleven days after his maiden win Anthony Van Dyck was stepped up in class and started 8/11 favourite for the Group 3 Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown Racecourse.

After settling in third place, Saxon Warrior took the lead approaching the final furlong and went clear of his rivals to win by two lengths from Delano Roosevelt. On 28 October, Saxon Warrior, accompanied by his stablemates Seahenge (Champagne Stakes), The Pentagon (Tyros Stakes) and Coat of Arms was sent to England to contest the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster Racecourse. The Irish contingent was completed by the National Stakes winner Verbal Dexterity, while the best of the British contenders appeared to be Roaring Lion and Chilean (Ascendant Stakes). Ridden by Moore, and starting the 13/8 favourite, Saxon Warrior tracked the leaders before going to the front two furlongs out.

Rather than making her first appearance in a maiden race Quarter Moon made her track debut in the Group 3 Debutante Stakes over seven furlongs on soft ground at the Curragh on 19 August. Starting at odds of 5/1 she was restrained in the early stages before producing a strong late run and failing by only a head to overhaul the Dermot Weld-trained favourite Saranac Lake. Two weeks later the filly was stepped up to Group 1 class and started the 7/4 favourite for the Moyglare Stud Stakes over the same course and distance. Her sixteen opponents included Sophisticat (also trained by O'Brien), Seba (winner of the Chesham Stakes), Dress To Thrill (Tyros Stakes), High Society (Rochestown Stakes), Mahsusie (Marble Hill Stakes) and Miss Beabea (runner-up in the Phoenix Stakes).

On her first appearance as a three-year-old More So was ridden by Christy Roche when she was one of 17 fillies to contest the Irish 1000 Guinea on good to firm ground at the Curragh on 12 May. Despite her lack of experience she was made the 2/1 joint favourite alongside Cistus, the only British-trained challenger who had won the Waterford Candelabra Stakes and finished second in the Critérium des Pouliches in the previous year. The best fancied of the other runners were Enid Calling (winner of the Tyros Stakes and Mulcahy Stakes), Quatemala (second in the Athasi Stakes) and Ridaness (Moyglare Stud Stakes). The race was run only a week after the English 1000 Guineas and Enid Calling (seventh to Enstone Spark at Newmarket) was the only filly to contest both races.

Melqart - who was worshipped as a divine patron of Tyre for millennia - was called Melqart Heracles in Greek, but is not to be confused with the demigod Heracles (Hercules), hero of the 12 labors. Usoos took a tree trunk and was the first to sail in it on the sea.

On his return to the track Steel Heart started at odds of 17/2 for the Gimcrack Stakes over six furlongs at York Racecourse in August. Ridden by Lester Piggott he won by one and a half lengths from the July Stakes winner Auction Ring with It's Freezing (Tyros Stakes) in third place. At Newmarket Racecourse in October, with Piggott again in the saddle, Steel Heart was made the 10/11 favourite for the Group One Middle Park Stakes, with his opponents including Auction Ring, Tanzor (Acomb Stakes), Windy Glen (Star Stakes), Overtown (Norfolk Stakes and Red Cross (Chesham Stakes, Mill Reef Stakes). Racing on soft ground for the first time, Steel Heart took the lead a furlong out and held off the challenge of the 33/1 outsider Royal Manacle to win by a neck with a gap of three lengths back to Auction Ring in third.

In Acts of Apostles, the church of Tyre (also Tyros) is mentioned in the missionary journey of Paul the Apostle "From Miletus about Caesarea to Jerusalem" (Acts 21.3 to 7 EU). Tyre was an ancient metropolitan see in Roman and Byzantine Empire. During the Crusades an archdiocese of the Latin rite was erected . The Roman Catholic Church built around 1124 the Archdiocese of Tyre, the territory encompassed the city and region of Tyre. Since Tyre was conquered in 1291 by the Muslim Mamluks, the archdiocese became titular. When tensions within the Melkite Patriarchy escalated at the turn from the 17th to the 18th century, Tyre was at the center of the schism: its archbishop Euthymios Saifi had been working on regaining communion with the Holy See in Rome at least since 1683, when he founded the monastery Deir el Moukhallès near Sidon/Saida. In 1701, by secret decree he was appointed by the Congretation Propaganda Fide to be the Apostolic Administrator of the Melkites.
