Gold served the Colony in various offices. He was a chief magistrate at Fairfield, Connecticut in 1677 He was Ensign of the Fairfield trainband in April, 1690 and Capt. in Oct., 1695.

In April 1640, was elected Member of Parliament for Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the Short Parliament. He was created a baronet on 2 November 1642. After serving as a Trainband captain, Liddell was commissioned into the Royalist army in August 1642 and served as a Commissioner of Array.

Annual town meetings would be held at the meeting house, generally in May, to elect the town's representatives to the general court and to transact other community business. Towns often had a village green, used for outdoor celebrations and activities such as military exercises of the town's trainband or militia.

Judson was elected deputy (town representative) to the Connecticut General Court—the precursor to the state legislature—for 13 half-year terms between 1659 and 1667. He was an ensign in the Stratford militia by 1663 and promoted to the rank of lieutenant in the First Company of the Stratford Trainband (trained militia) when it was formed in 1672.

Sergeant Thomas Spencer (March 29, 1607 – September 11, 1687) was a notable early settler of Hartford, Connecticut. He was born in Stotfold, Bedfordshire, England to Gerard Spencer and Alice Whitbread. He was a freeman in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1634, and moved to Hartford in 1637. He served in the Pequot War and was a 'sergeant of the trainband' in 1650.

William Bullard (1594-December 23, 1686.) was an early resident and two term Selectman in Dedham, Massachusetts. He built the first bridge across the Charles River in Dedham at the site of the present day Ames Street Bridge. He also served in the trainband led by Eleazer Lusher. Bullard was born in England in 1594 and first settled in Watertown in 1635 before moving to Dedham.

John White of Dorchester in Dorset, and some of them (like Eames) later moved to Hingham. Accounts from Hingham's earliest years indicate some friction between the disparate groups, culminating in a 1645 episode involving the town's "trainband", when some Hingham settlers supported Eames, and others supported Bozoan Allen, a prominent early Hingham settler and Hobart ally who came from King's Lynn in Norfolk, East Anglia. Prominent East Anglian Puritans like the Hobarts and the Cushings, for instance, were used to holding sway in matters of governance. Eventually the controversy became so heated that John Winthrop and Thomas Dudley were drawn into the fray; minister Hobart threatened to excommunicate Eames.
