Further retail, and a significant number of engineering companies are located in the Team Valley Trading Estate, which at one time was the largest industrial estate in Europe.
210-14, Bobbs-Merrill Co., Indianapolis, IN, 1945. The UK subsidiary was formed by Henry Nyberg and Chares Cleaver and operated from premises on the Slough Trading Estate. In 1922 they supplied a 4-wheel rail lorry to the Derwent Valley Light Railway which was located in Yorkshire. The lorry was unsuccessful struggling with heavy loads and was returned to its manufacturer.
The present industrial estate (or "trading estate") developed mainly after World War II, under the management of the Port of Bristol Authority. In 1951 a factory producing carbon black was built to the north-east of the estate (Philblack, later Sevalco), and operated until 2008 when its closure was announced. The site has since been cleared with the exception of three storage tanks.

Following the closure of the depot and the branch line, the land occupied has been redeveloped. The area occupied by the goods sidings is now covered by housing and the site of the depot sheds has become a trading estate served by a new road, Mandela Way. A number of railway related buildings remain on the western perimeter of the site including former stables buildings.

Rugeley Trent Valley is a railway station located on the outskirts of Rugeley in Staffordshire, England. It is one of two stations serving Rugeley, the other being Rugeley Town. It is on the eastern side of the town close to the Rugeley Trent Valley Trading Estate and located close to the River Trent. West Midlands Trains operate the station, and all trains serving it.
The Shut End collieries were sold to H.S. Pitt & Company in 1913. The collieries were worked using the railway network built by John Bradley & Co until around 1937. The land now forms part of the Pensnett Trading Estate. In 1919 the Stourbridge Iron Works were sold to a company owned by Edward J. Taylor, which ran the business under the name John Bradley & Co. (Stourbridge) Ltd.
The chapel and graveyard at Bordon Military Cemetery Land was originally set aside for a cemetery on the west side of the A325. However, there is no evidence that it was used, with burials occurring in the civilian cemeteries in either Headley or Greatham. The site is now the Woolmer trading estate. In 1908, work started on a new military cemetery on Bolley Avenue.
Irish immigrant Bridget "Bridie" O'Hara was found dead on 16 February 1965 near a storage shed behind the Heron Trading Estate, Acton. She had been missing since 11 January. Once again, O'Hara's body turned up flecks of industrial paint which were traced to an electrical transformer near where she was discovered. Her body also showed signs of having been stored in a warm environment.
In September 1983 the organisation moved into a warehouse on the Team Valley Trading Estate in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear. In 2004 it opened a second warehouse on the Team Valley, which houses the quality control, food packaging and logistics departments. Traidcraft also has a policy unit based in London, taking the staff total to over 140. It sells fair trade food, clothes/accessories, paper and crafts.
The airfield site was subsequently redeveloped into a private trading estate and the RAF married quarters into a residential area which became a newly created civil parish of Hemswell Cliff. The old village of Hemswell remains as a separate parish. By mid-2008 there was no longer RAF presence on the site, which became civilian. The RAF sold the community centre in 2009 to an educational charity.
Old Boston Colliery baths Old Boston was a colliery in the north of Haydock, Merseyside, England. The colliery was closed, due to an underground fire. The site of the colliery was then used for many years as a training centre for National Coal Board employees. The site of the colliery and training centre is now Old Boston Trading estate, located adjacent to the A580 East Lancashire road.
The organisation was formed in 1986 and established as a company limited by guarantee. The museum first opened to the public at the Gloucester Trading Estate, the former Brockworth aerodrome. With the aid of grants and public donations, it began to amass a collection of aircraft. The museum's first significant public opening began with a temporary exhibition in a hangar adjacent to Gloucestershire Airport.
The population fell and in the 1930s it was slightly smaller than it had been in the mid 19th century. Slough Trading Estate plays a major part in making Slough an important business centre in South East England The global headquarters of Reckitt Benckiser and the UK headquarters of Mars, Incorporated are based in Slough. The European head offices of major IT companies BlackBerry, CA Technologies, are in the town. O2 has headquarters in four buildings.
Offenham is a large rural village and civil parish in the Wychavon district of Worcestershire, England, located about three miles east of Evesham, in the Vale of Evesham. The River Avon flows through Offenham. The civil parish extends beyond the area of the settlement of Offenham and includes Blackminster Middle School and the Blackminster Trading Estate. It was awarded the title of Calor Worcestershire Village of the Year in 2004.
In July 1948 the site was closed and much has reverted to farmland with runways being removed in 1968. During 1949 and into 1950 parts of the site were used for temporary housing for local families while new Council housing developments were being built in the area - people moving into the new houses when completed. Since then, the airside area has evolved into the Honeybourne Airfield Trading Estate.

Patchway Trading Estate is adjacent to the dual carriageway linking the A38 and M5. The mall and two retail parks at Cribbs Causeway, just north of Filton airfield, form the largest shopping centre in South West England. On the opposite side of the railway track is the Stoke Lodge housing estate. The A38 trunk road, upgraded to a dual carriageway in the mid-1970s, separates the two housing estates.
ROF Thorp Arch, what is now the Thorp Arch trading estate was also built outside the town as a munitions factory, which provided war time employment for many in the town as well as across Leeds. Unusually, Wetherby does not have a memorial to its losses in the Second World War, one was neither erected or as in many towns, a list of the dead added to the Great War memorial.
A small shopping complex is located on the west side of Tannochside with a supermarket, take- aways, chemist, dentist, charity shop, and other outlets. Nearby Uddingston main street also has a range of retail outlets and services. The Glasgow East Showcase Cinema Complex is situated just 2 miles north of Tannochside near the A8 dual carriageway. There are also major retailers based within the nearby Birkenshaw Trading Estate.
Dalston has a population of around 2,500 and serves as a key service centre for a much wider rural area. At the centre is the Square, which is not square, dominated by St Michael's and All Angels Church. Most of the shops are located in and around the Square. To the northwest of the centre of the village is the Barras Lane trading estate, home to many businesses.

John Logie Baird's experimental television transmissions from the United Kingdom to Berlin, Germany were transmitted from the stable block of Kingsbury Manor, now the Veterans Club in Roe Green Park. From 1923 to 1979 Kingsbury Road was the location of the Vanden Plas specialist motor body works, body makers for Bentley and later part of Austin, BMC, and British Leyland. The site is now Kingsbury Trading Estate.
South side of Woking Station On 14 December 1993, an explosion on the railway lines between Woking and West Byfleet disrupted rail traffic and forced the closure of 9 stations in the area. In 1996 South West Trains won the franchise for most rail routes through Woking Station (the former BR Network South East/South West Division). In 2002, Arriva's Woking depot in Goldsworth Park Trading Estate closed, moving to Guildford.
Since the name of the station came from an existing nearby village, the name 'Brookenby' was chosen in the 1980s when the new village was constituted. The name is believed to be derived from a nearby abandoned or plague village. The former sergeants' mess is now Brookenby Church, part of the Walesby group of parishes. A Trading Estate was developed on the remains of the RAF station in 1998.
Mars Food UK Limited is the name of the English branch of Mars, Inc. The company is based in Slough, England. Mars brands manufactured for the UK market but not for the US include Tunes. In 1932, Forrest Mars, Sr., opened what was then Mars (Europe) headquarters, and remains Mars (UK) headquarters in Slough, Berkshire on the then-new Slough Trading Estate, after a disagreement with his father, Franklin Clarence Mars.
Perdio also produced the Portarama Television set currently on display in Londons Science Museum along with a 'Spinny' radio. In 1962, the name changed to Perdio Electronics Ltd, Bonhill Street, London, EC2 (when Perdio became a public company) and opened a factory on Pallion Trading Estate in Sunderland. Perdio went into receivership in 1965. By 1965, Perdio also owned: Kenure-Holt Electronics and Electric Audio Reproducers ("EAR") Ltd.
Bradley Fold has a trading estate, incorporating a council depot, and is also home to a former Dorma textiles factory. Since the mid-1990s, several new housing estates have been built. There are reservoirs open to anglers on Browns Road. In addition to a garden centre and social club, Bradley Fold has one pub, The Queens, where remnants of the former Bradley Fold railway station on the Liverpool and Bury Railway can be seen.
By 1954, about half of the original building had been demolished and more was to go. In 1976, the site was redeveloped and renamed as the Hadfield Trading Estate. Station Mill was built in 1834 by Thomas and Edward Platt, members of a family who had farmed Longdendale for generations. The family owned this cotton mill for 68 years, before selling it in 1923 to E. Wilman & Sons, which converted it to silk noil spinning.
Writers Richard Conway and Stephen J. Mattick named Magnus's colleague, Dr Turner, after the episode's director, Ken Turner. In the script, Conway and Mattick suggested that Wexham Park Hospital could be used as a location to shoot footage showing the development of Tiempo's radiographs. In the end, however, the episode was filmed entirely at Century 21's studios on the Slough Trading Estate. Filming began on 20 February 1967 and was completed in two weeks.
The Brink's-Mat robbery occurred at the Heathrow International Trading Estate, London, on 26 November 1983. £26 million (equivalent to £ million in ) worth of gold bullion, diamonds, and cash was stolen from a warehouse. The bullion was the property of Johnson Matthey Bankers Ltd, which collapsed the following year after making large loans to frauds and insolvent firms. Two men were convicted, and the majority of the gold has never been recovered.
Right-hand drive cars were built at Slough Trading Estate, England. The Slough version of the 11L was called the Light Fifteen and the long wheelbase 11 was called the Big Fifteen. This confusing terminology referred to the British fiscal tax rating of the time, which was higher than the French, so the 11CV engine was 15HP in England. The 15/6 model was called Big Six in reference to its 6-cylinder engine.
Most of the canal was filled in after its abandonment. A trading estate covers most of the northern end of the Sandhill Branch, and housing has been built over the middle section. A short stub, from the Brockmoor Junction with the Stourbridge Canal to the stop lock at Bromley has been retained in water, and mooring facilities with a boundary fence were constructed by British Waterways on the north bank of the stub in 2004.
In December 2006 the Cumberland on St Luke's Road was given a makeover and opened as a gastro pub called the Star and Dove. The Bocabar opened in the Paintworks (formerly Central Trading Estate) in 2005 and serves tapas, pizzas, cakes, cappuccinos with a licensed bar. Mrs Brown's Cafe opened in Victoria Park in 2007, serving Fairtrade coffee and cakes from a caravan. There are several popular eateries on the Wells Road.
The A38 passes Endsleigh Garden Centre, which used to have direct access from the dual carriageway, although since the early 2000s this has been closed and the garden centre is accessed from the Westover junction for Ivybridge. After Ivybridge, the route roughly parallels the original route, bypassing the village of Lee Mill which is now home to a large trading estate. The road widens to a three-lane dual carriageway for the Plympton bypass.
The Alb Reservoir lies in the valley of the Alb at about 737 metres above sea level (Normalnull). The nearest settlement is the town of St. Blasien (760 m ü. NN), whose trading estate in the south reaches the end of the lake. A total of 700 businesses are located within its 90-hectare site. It supplies over ten million people and is a benchmark market worldwide. Mercabarna, as public limited company, was founded in 1967 in Barcelona.
As Dewsbury Road in Cleckheaton it meets the A643 at crossroads. It meets Whitcliffe Road (B6120) from the left, then Hunsworth Lane (B6121) from the right at Moorend. It passes the Spen Trading Estate on the right, and meets the M62, M606, and Whitehall Road (A58) at the Chain Bar Roundabout,Chain Bar Interchange where the road terminates. The road from here used to pass north through Oakenshaw, which runs parallel next to the M606, and then Low Moor.
The Brink's-Mat robbery occurred early on 26 November 1983 when six robbers broke into the Brink's-Mat warehouse, Unit 7 of the Heathrow International Trading Estate near Heathrow Airport in West London. It was described as "the crime of the century". The gang gained entry to the warehouse from security guard Anthony Black. Once inside, they poured petrol over staff and threatened them with a lit match if they did not reveal the combination numbers of the vault.
Churcher became the welfare officer of the Slough Trading Estate and was elected in 1924 to the Windsor Town Council. He also held the post of Secretary of the King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor from 1924 until 1939. Perhaps most significantly he served as Mayor of Windsor in 1935, 1936 and 1937. During 1937 on the day of the coronation of George VI Churcher was knighted as the King and Queen made a state entry into Windsor.
Wrexham Industrial Estate is a well defined industrial area in Wrexham. It is suited on the eastern outskirts of the town and 2.5 miles from the centre of Wrexham. Originally the site of a World War II munitions factory, the estate later became known as the Wrexham Trading Estate. It has now grown to cover approximately and the largest industrial estate in Wales, second in the UK after Trafford Park, and one of the largest industrial estates in Europe.
Alnwick Castle was the home of the most powerful medieval northern baronial family, the Earls of Northumberland. It was a staging post on the Great North Road between Edinburgh and London, and latterly has become a dormitory town for nearby Newcastle-upon-Tyne . The town centre has changed relatively little, but the town has seen some growth, with several housing estates covering what had been pasture, and new factory and trading estate developments along the roads to the south.
Firby House was the manor house, home to the Constable of Bedale Castle, whose liege lord was Bryan FitzAlan and his baronial descendants. With Anglo-Scottish border defense duties in their lords' retinues, the Firby family eventually set down a second residence at Firby Court, Firby Road on Gallowfields Trading Estate near Richmond Castle. A certain Hugh de Fritheby was once parson or rector of Richmond's parish church. Firby Croft has four houses and a common garden plot.

Chittening Platform railway station was a station on the former Great Western Railway between Filton and Avonmouth. The station was opened on 5 March 1917 to serve a large government munitions factory at Chittening. The factory project was abandoned when the United States entered the First World War, but the station remained open to serve employees at the Chittening Trading Estate. It was closed on 23 November 1964, when passenger traffic ceased on the Avonmouth and Filton line.
Most H Vans were sold in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. At the Slough Trading Estate assembly facility (1926-1966), Citroën UK built a very small number of right hand drive versions. The German market was supplied by a key competitor, the Volkswagen Type 2, and also by the more comparable DKW Schnellaster. As with the Volkswagen, the H Van could not be sold in the US as a commercial vehicle after 1964, due to the Chicken tax.
Treforest Industrial Estate The Treforest Trading Estate, later renamed Treforest Industrial Estate, originated with the formation of the 'South Wales and Monmouthshire Trading Estates Ltd.' in June 1936. This non-profit making company aimed to establish one or more trading estates in Wales, and the first sod was cut on . By the end of 1937, three small factories had been completed and occupied. The first building contract awarded was a large factory for the British Coated Board and Paper Company Ltd (Wiggins Teape).
The factories are rapidly being replaced by office buildings. Hundreds of major companies have sited in Slough Trading Estate over the years, with its proximity to London Heathrow Airport and good motorway connections being attractive. In the 1960s, Gerry Anderson's film company was based in Slough, and his Supermarionation series, including Thunderbirds, were filmed there. The UK headquarters of Mars, Incorporated is in Slough, the main factory having been established in 1932 by Forrest Mars Sr. and Frank C. Mars.
First edition (publ. Jonathan Cape) Human Punk is a novel by John King that tells the story of a group of boys who leave school in 1977 and the effect the emerging punk movement has on their lives. The book is largely based in Slough, a new town on the outskirts of London, famed for its industry and large trading estate. Human Punk follows the lives of main character Joe Martin and his friends Smiles, Dave and Chris across the next three decades.
Goldenfry factory The Wharfedale Brewery became Oxley's mineral water factory during the inter-war years. It was demolished in the 1950s and redeveloped as the West Yorkshire Road Car Company bus depot and bus station, and has been further redeveloped to include shops, offices, and a restaurant and the bus station. The site of the watermill by the weir, is now occupied by riverside flats. Wetherby has a manufacturing presence in the town and on the Thorp Arch Trading Estate.
Slough is a town and unitary authority (Borough of Slough) in the English county of Berkshire, just to the west of Greater London. Until 1974 the town was in Buckinghamshire. The town developed in the 19th and 20th centuries from a number of villages, mainly in Buckinghamshire, along the Great West Road, with growth being accelerated by the construction of the Great Western Railway and later by the Slough Trading Estate. The Riviera Line through Marsh Barton Roundabout on the Marsh Barton estate Marsh Barton is the largest trading estate in Exeter,Exeter City Council covering over . It supports over 500 diverse businesses including one of Europe's largest motoring centres, showrooms, city plumbing, Exeter College's automotive site, builders merchants, and tool and plant hire. It is also home to the head office of the Apple Premium Reseller, Stormfront Retail Ltd. There are proposals for a new railway station to serve Marsh Barton.
With a decrease in rail traffic the standard-gauge British Rail line was closed to passenger trains in 1964Passengers No More by G.Daniels and L.Dench and finally dismantled in 1965 under the Beeching cuts.Smith p.151-155 The station and station yard in Bromyard were originally purchased by Bill Morris, whose company 'Morris Coaches Bromyard', founded in 1966, ran a bus service in the area. Around this time the rights to the track-bed, running for about a mile towards the Linton Trading Estate, were also acquired.

Birkenshaw is a village in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, to the east of Glasgow, and in proximity to Uddingston, Tannochside and Viewpark. Historically part of Lanarkshire Birkenshaw is largely a housing estate, but is more widely known for the Birkenshaw trading estate, popular with couples on weekends for its range of DIY, electrical and furniture stores. Birkenshaw is considered as part of Viewpark and is contained within the Greater Glasgow conurbation. It gained some notoriety after Peter Manuel, the "beast of Birkenshaw", committed some murders there.
The Council presented a further planning application in 2007. The council's selected route (shown on this Google overlay map) would pass to the east of the town. The council expected it to reduce traffic through Westbury, create more space for cyclists and pedestrians, and improve journey time reliability on the A350 by two minutes. It would also provide a new access road to the West Wilts Trading Estate, though not to the other Westbury trading estates, or the railway station or the designated Future Intermodal Freight Terminal.
British Library The Royal Ordnance Factory closed in 1957. However, with a boom in the construction trade and many others in the post-war years, the site found many new industries requiring the space it could offer. George Moore (founder of Moores Furniture Group) bought the site in 1960s and converted it into a trading estate. Moores Furniture Group furniture factory is situated on the estate, as is a Leeds City Council household recycling centre, a sewage works and many other small businesses situated.
Church of St Martin, Sandford Wareham St Martin is a civil parish in the English county of Dorset. The parish spreads across a large, and mostly rural area to the north of the town of Wareham including much of Wareham Forest. However the town of Wareham lies within its own civil parish, and the only significant settlement within Wareham St. Martin parish is the village of Sandford on the A351 road between Wareham and Poole. The parish also includes the Holton Heath trading estate.
He also claimed his shop and house were looted and destroyed by the castle's Royalist garrison The garrison was soon defeated and the castle partly demolished using gunpowder. The Parliamentarian forces appeared to have also used the River Cherwell for access to Banbury at one point and briefly set up camp in the location of the present day Canalside trading estate, next to the public gallows. In 1649 dissaffected soldiers of the New Model Army mutinied. Being a mutiny and in Banbury, it became known as the Banbury mutiny.
In 1903 the pit passed into the hands of Guest Keen and Nettlefolds Ltd, at which point it employed 2,502 men. By 1923 the colliery was producing from the Six Feet, Nine Feet and Upper Four Feet seams, employing 2,794 men. In 1931 it was taken over by Welsh Associated Collieries, who were absorbed into Powell Duffryn Company Ltd. in 1936. Nationalisation took place on 1 January 1947, but the returning miners wanted better conditions, and many choose to commute to work at the newly developed Treforest Trading Estate.
The line between Kingswinford and Tettenhall remained open to goods trains until 24 June 1965, though the branch which served Baggeridge Colliery survived until the closure of that facility on 2 March 1968. This meant that the line had been open for just over half a century when it closed. Its viability was not helped by the fact that it served a predominantly rural area. The final remaining section of the line continued to serve the Pensnett Trading Estate, developed since around 1970, until that section of railway closed in 1994.
Attached to the college were also basic training workshops. In 1960 the education authority opened Filton Technical College on the opposite side of Filton Avenue to the BAC college. Later the various colleges merged and eventually became the South Gloucestershire and Stroud College. Sandwiched between roads, factories, railway lines and the aerodrome, Filton expanded little after World War II. However, from the late 1970s a trading estate slowly developed on the eastern side of the Bristol/South Wales railway line in what is now known as East Filton.
Swire Properties was established in Hong Kong in 1972, with interests held by B&S; Industries Limited and The Taikoo Dockyard and Engineering Company of Hong Kong Limited, which was renamed as Swire Pacific Limited in 1974. In 1975, Taikoo Shing, built on the former Taikoo Dockyard, became the first major development by Swire Properties. Tung Ting Mansion, the first block of Taikoo Shing, was offered for sale in January 1976. In the following year, Taikoo Sugar Refinery Compound was renamed to the Taikoo Trading Estate (which is now known as Taikoo Place).
The existing army buildings were tenanted as factories, and additional units were built. Those on the Bath Road and Farnham Road frontages were designed with fundamentally uniform simple Art Deco offices on the front. Shared facilities were provided for workforce and employers, including a fire station, restaurant,p118, Around Slough in old photographs, Judith Hunter and Karen Hunter, Budding Books, 1998 shops and banks, a large community centre (1937) and the Slough Industrial Health Service (1947). Early businesses established on the trading estate included Citroën (1926), Gillette, Johnson & Johnson and High Duty Alloys.
In 1943, MobbsMobbs, together with Percival Parry had formed Slough Estates in 1920, Slough Estates was the owner of Slough Trading Estate where R. Malcom operated who had bought into R. Malcolm in 1940 took full control of the company with Lobelle, who had left Fairey Aviation Company in 1940 to join R Malcolm, named as chief designer. Lobelle became a director of the company shortly after. The White Waltham site became ML Aviation, the Slough site "ML Engineering". Post war, ML Aviation made, among other products, aircraft handling and weapons stores equipment.
With no likelihood of the canal being used again, Slough Council proposed buying part of it and building an access road for a trading estate along its route. The Slough Canal Group was formed in 1968, and fought a vigorous campaign to save the canal, supported by the local newspaper, the Slough Observer. They were successful, and the canal was re-opened in 1975. The Slough Arm was one of seven stretches of canal, formally designated as remainder waterways, which were re-classified by the British Waterways Act of 8 February 1983.
Prenton is situated on the eastern side of the Wirral Peninsula, about west of the River Mersey at Tranmere Oil Terminal. The area is approximately south-south-east of the Irish Sea at Wallasey and about east-north-east of the Dee Estuary at Thurstaston. Prenton is at an elevation of between above sea level; the highest point being near the junction of Pine Walks and Burrell Road, with the Halfway House crossroads at an elevation of above sea level. Prenton Brook merges with the River Fender, at Prenton, within the North Cheshire Trading Estate.
The second being that it was always intended to be part of a high-quality network of stations for commuters using the GWR. During World War II Taplow station played an important part in transporting tanks stored at "the dump" which is now at the site of Slough Trading Estate. The concrete and steel-reinforced road that was laid to take the weight of the tanks can still be found in the station's south car park. Just to the north of the station on a rail siding was a large Barbed wire dump.
Pond on Mitcham Common Mitcham is home to a large area (460 acres) of South London's open green space in the form of Mitcham Common, studded with a few ponds and buildings. The buildings comprising the Windmill Trading Estate have existed in one form or another since 1782. The Mill House Ecology Centre and the Harvester (formerly the Mill House Pub) are located near the site of an old windmill, the remnants of which still exist. The Seven Islands pond is the largest of all the ponds, created following gravel extraction of the 19th century.wandlevalleypark.co.
Morgan's election campaigns were unsuccessful, and he decided to focus on promoting independent Welsh businesses. To this end, he set up an insurance company, Cwmni Undeb, based in Aberdare. He pledged that any profits would be invested in Welsh industry or establishing Welsh-language schools. Following on from this, he created a trading estate for like-minded businesses in Hirwaun, and in 1963 founded Cronfa Glyndwr yr Ysgolion Cymreig (The Glyndŵr Trust for Welsh Schools), which distributed funds to parents wishing to send their children to Welsh-language schools.
In April 2006, a fire broke out in the Arcade Buildings, a block of industrial units on the Atlantic Trading Estate. In February 2007, car was set on fire, and in September, a lorry trailer containing rubbish and tyres was set ablaze in a suspected arson attack. In mid April 2008, a major fire broke out on the estate, affecting a derelict industrial unit housing, a warehouse and several garages. Several months later two men were arrested on the estate, suspected of dismantling metal girders and guilty of arson.
The A38 road covers some of the route near to Chudleigh, the intersection on the A38 at this point is named "Chudleigh Station". A short section of the line in Exeter, known as the "Alphington Spur" remains a siding for weekly scrap metal freight trains. In December 2012 there has been an outline planning proposal by the council to open a new station on the main line close to this section of the old line to serve Exeter's Marsh Barton Trading Estate. At Christow Station there is a reconstruction project.
At the time of World War II the BBC also had radio facilities at Redland Park Hall, All Saints Hall, the Chapter House, College Road, Clifton Parish Hall, the Cooperative Hall and the Clifton Rocks Railway. In more recent times 15 Whiteladies Road, St Mary's Church in Belgrave Road, and Christchurch Hall have also provided accommodation and facilities. A radio control room was built in St George's Church, Brandon Hill. From 1986, the BBC leased warehouses on the Kingsland Trading Estate, and also (from 2002) on the Lawrence Hill Industrial Park, to provide facilities for Casualty when it was produced in Bristol.
Across Kilver Street (the A37) is Kilver Court, which during the 20th century was a factory, headquarters of a brewing business, and then headquarters of a leather-goods manufacturer. Behind are the Kilver Court Gardens, originally built by Showerings for the recreation of its staff and set against a backdrop of part of the Charlton Viaduct. The gardens are now open to the public. On the eastern edge of the town is Charlton where there are former breweries and mills, now converted into a trading estate, and right on the edge of the town is Charlton House, a luxury hotel and spa.
The Sindh Industrial & Trading Estate was established in 1947 and has grown into the largest industrial area in Pakistan with more than 2,000 industrial units on of land west of the Lyari River. The estate benefits from the proximity of the Port of Karachi and various roads linking to the rest of Pakistan. The town grew up as worker colonies were established around the industrial estate. The father of nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah came here in this area in July 1948 and attended the opening ceremony of Valika Textile Mills, the first textile mill of Pakistan.
By rail to Wombourn, J. Ned Williams and students of Wulfrun College, Uralia Press, 1969. The halts and stations closed to passengers in 1932, and the entire line from Wolverhampton to Kingswinford was closed to freight traffic in the 1960s, although the stub near Pensnett Halt served the nearby Pensnett Trading Estate until 1994, when the entire stub to Kingswinford Junction was closed. Portions of the track remain in situ, however, as well as the platforms as far as Pensnett Halt. Gornal Halt has since been replaced by residential development, and Himley station now forms part of the South Staffordshire Railway Walk.
Its source is near Annfield Plain, where it is known as Kyo Burn. Then changing its name again to Causey Burn as it flows underneath the famous Causey Arch. It then flows past Beamish Museum in County Durham (where it is known as Beamish Burn) then crosses the border into Gateshead flowing through Lamesley. Continuing on into the Team Valley, the river flows through a culvert in the middle of the roundabout underneath the A1 road, it then continues through the Team Valley Trading Estate through a covered culvert, before emerging to the surface halfway along.
Orangi is bordered by New Karachi to the north across the Shahrah-e-Zahid Hussain, Gulberg Town to the east across the Gujjar Nala stream, Liaquatabad Town to the south, and Sindh Industrial and Trading Estate to the west. There are 13 official neighborhoods, each with its own council, which has allowed the township to build its own sewer system. Orangi stretches out from the Khasba Hills, North Nazimabad and Paposh Nagar towards the northern parts of Karachi and covers approximately 22 square miles of land. The Khasba Hills forms a natural boundary between Orangi Town and North Nazimabad.
Griffin Mill is occupied by a variety of small businesses including a paint factory, a painting and decorating retail business, a fitness centre, an antiques emporium, a computer supplier, a printmaking co- operative and an art shop. Hope Mills business centre contains a tree maintenance company, a car body repair centre, a banner maker and an electrical, plumbing and building maintenance contractor. Phoenix Mill is a trading estate containing, among others, a swimming pool installer, a hot sauce manufacturer, an electronic component manufacturer, a brewery and a printer. Port Mills is occupied by a publishing company, The History Press.
As of 2018, Wood Green is the focus of two major regeneration programmes by the London Borough of Haringey. Blue House Yard, Wood Green The Haringey Heartlands initiative covers an area to the west of the town centre, including the former Clarendon Gas Works, Olympia Trading Estate and land on Western Road. The programme aims to transform the area into a mixed sub-neighbourhood, with 1,700 homes, along with retail and office space. There are also plans for new public open space including a 'civic boulevard' linking the east and west of Wood Green and a public square for events and activities.
Great Bentley owes much of its growth to the coming of the railway in 1866, with the railway station being named Bentley Green before being changed to its present title of Great Bentley in 1877. Two new housing estates were built in the 1960s on either side of the Village Green. This was followed by a trading estate being developed close to the railway station, now known as the Plough Road Business Centre. At that time the village boasted five public houses, Post Office, a Garage, several small retail shops and businesses, a School and a Doctor’s surgery.
Valero Energy UK, who bought Texaco from Chevron in 2011, are in Eldene, in the former head office of St Ivel; Patheon UK (pharmaceuticals, on the former site of Roussel Uclaf) are on the B4006 in Covingham, north of Valero, in the east of Swindon. BG Automotive, on the Cheney Manor industrial estate, make gaskets on the B4006 in Rodbourne; Dynamatic UK are in a former Plessey factory. Burmah Oil was headquartered in the south of Swindon; Burmah bought Castrol in 1966 (owned by BP from 2000). Stanley Security (former Amano Blick) is on the Techno trading estate, north of the town centre.
Steel girders set into the kerb edge of Old Nottingham Road near its junction with Stores Road are the remains of a bridge over the Little Eaton line. The Little Eaton line and the gangway have also disappeared, apart from the Wharf Building at Little Eaton, in the present day trading estate, and a couple of bridges. The clock house is a grade II listed structure, built for the canal's agent at the junction between the canal and the Little Eaton gangway. It is an L-shaped building, constructed of red bricks with a tiled roof in about 1795.
Old NCP Challenger logo NSL Buses commenced operating as NCP Challenger on 12 November 2005, owned by NCP Services Group which emerged from the car park operator National Car Parks. It had successfully tendered to operate routes 33 and 419 under contract to Transport for London. A depot was established at Twickenham Trading Estate (off Rugby Road), and a number of London United staff filled the management positions. On 31 March 2007, NCP Challenger commenced operating route 493. A second garage opened in Park Royal after NCP Challenger were awarded contracts to operate routes 272, 440 and E11 from 26 May 2007.
The Cessna broke up in the air following the collision. From the 1970s a large industrial estate was developed in the north of the parish (North Moss Lane Industrial Estate, Kiln Lane Trading Estate), south-west of the Battery Works.Ordnance Survey 1:10560/10000 1966–8, 1972–82; 1:2500 1985–6 In the 1990s "Dash for gas" the 1.26 GW South Humber Bank Power Station was constructed adjacent to the Synthomer chemical plant in two phases from 1997 to 1999. In 2006 a training centre for the chemical industry, CATCH ("Centre for Assessment and Technical Competence Humber") opened at Stallingbrough industrial estate.
Starting on Linton Road Wetherby the route is a railway path before it goes through a housing estate and uses an underpass to cross the A1(M). There is a rail path from there to Thorpe Arch Estate. When opened in 2007, at a cost of £500,00, this section was numbered as Route 66, it is now fully signed as Route 665. The old railway viaduct over the River Wharfe was reopened as a cycle path in 2018, this formed a new section of the route from the trading estate to the A659 at Newton Kyme.
The heads also contained sound-activated solenoids, which allowed the puppets' lips to move automatically in synchronisation with the dialogue. The electronics of the day required more space than would be available in a human-scale head, therefore all the puppets in Four Feather Falls had oversized heads. Except for the pilot episode, which was made in AP Films' studios at Islet Park, the series was produced in a converted warehouse in the Slough Trading Estate. The cast assembled to record each script without seeing the puppets, much like recording a radio series; synchronisation of each character's speech with the movement of its puppet's mouth was performed later.
After the decision to move the Royal Corps of Transport and their Junior Leader training base to Colerne in Wiltshire, the base size was rationalised. A separate Norton Manor Camp was established on the northern part of the site, including the former POW camp, with a secure fence and facilities. The western part of the site close to the railway was sold off to either commercial developers (including a new production site for Taunton Blackthorn Cider), re-utilised as a trading estate, or sold onwards to Taunton Deane Borough Council for redevelopment as housing. By the early 21st century, agreement was reached to redevelop the site again.
To accommodate increased production, three large chemical containers were constructed on the west side of the railway line on the former dye works, supplied daily by Wincanton Transport trucks shipping raw chemical products from the docks at Southampton, Bristol and Sharpness. Closed in the late 1980s, the production site became the Bath Road Trading Estate, while the former dye works and chemical storage area became a new housing estate. In 1770, dyer Richard Hawker built Dudbridge House close to the river and his works. In 2007 the house has been converted into flats, and faces a housing estate which was built in the 1980s on part of the old dyeworks.
The biggest artist led venue is the St Michael's Studio complex on the St Michael's Trading Estate. It provides studios for 25 artists and attracted over 700 visitors to the 2009 event. Other one-day events include the West Bay Wallow,Wallow in and get out quick! Bridport News, 31 December 2008 a charity swim event in which participants often wear fancy dress, organised by the Bridport Round Table on Boxing Day, and a raft race in the River Brit basin, also at West Bay, in July; it is organised by the RNLI and participants race in homemade rafts and usually wear fancy dress.
Land of Leather on the Thorp Arch Trading Estate, Wetherby, West Yorkshire Land of Leather was founded in 1997, and in July 2005, the company was floated on the London Stock Exchange, with the assistance of the investment bank, Investec, using the symbol LAN. In December 2008, the company employed 850 people in its 109 stores in the United Kingdom and Ireland. In January 2009, Land of Leather issued profit warnings, and was planning to raise £15 million through a new share issue. In December 2008, Land of Leather's announcement that they were in buyout talks with a number of interested parties, caused their share price to rise by 38.5%.
In the 1930s, the Government decided to spend nearly £2 million on this part of Gateshead, establishing the Team Valley Trading Estate as a well-planned industrial environment. The architect in charge was William Holford, with Hugh Beaver as chief engineer.Mervyn Miller, William Graham, Baron Holford (1907-1975), Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford University Press 2004; accessed 20 Jan 2012 It included a central headquarters, now used by English Partnerships, a bank, post office, and some modestly scaled industrial buildings, as well as some smaller industrial units for start-up ventures. These facilities were laid out along a wide central artery, known as Kingsway, almost long.
Church of St Michael and All Angels, Alphington, viewed from the east Church of St Michael and All Angels, Alphington, tower viewed from south Alphington is a former manor and village, now a suburb of the City of Exeter in Devon. The ward of Alphington has a population of 8,250 according to the 2001 census, making it the third largest in Exeter, with the village itself accounting for about a quarter of this figure. The ward population increased to 8,682 at the 2011 census. It is surrounded on two sides by countryside, with the Marsh Barton trading estate to the east and Exeter City to the north.
In that year also, Julian Knott set the world altitude record for a hot air balloon of 35,971 ft using a balloon supplied with NGL oxygen equipment. NGL won several contracts in 1974 to supply the HS146 regional jet, now called the BAe 146 with air conditioning and air systems management equipment. Diversification continued with the purchase of Facet Enterprises filtration licenses from Voles in 1976. In the same year Normalair’s filtration division was formed in the former glove making factory at Shepton Beauchamp, where it remained for ten years before being moved to the Lynx Trading Estate in Yeovil near to the main plant.
First they sold the vehicles and then they converted the factories and let them out for industrial use, so establishing the Slough Trading Estate. Mobbs was also keen to establish sporting and social facilities for the people of Slough and in 1928 he bought Stoke Park Golf Club for £30,000 and reformed it. He also established the Stoke Poges Garden which is open to the publicBuckinghamshire Literary Map BBC as well as the Slough Community Centre which opened in 1936. Mobbs had financed the R Malcolm & Co aircraft component company and in 1943 took control with himself as managing director and Marcel Lobelle as chief designer.
A small memorial exists on the site of Merton Place. Other commemorations of Nelson's association with the parish are the former Nelson Hospital on Kingston Road, reopened in 2015 as the Nelson Health Centre; and, until it was closed in 2011, the Emma Hamilton public house at Wimbledon Chase. The Nelson Trading Estate off Morden Road and Hamilton, Hardy, Nelson, Victory and Trafalgar Roads, off Merton High Street, are all built on land once part of the Merton Place estate. Nelson's and Emma's pew remains in the parish church of St Mary the Virgin and on the wall of the north aisle of the church are the funerary hatchments of both Nelson and Sir William Hamilton.
Elmley Lovett in Worcestershire, England is a civil parish whose residents' homes are quite loosely clustered east of its Hartlebury Trading Estate as well as in minor neighbourhood Cutnall Green to the near south-east. The latter is a loosely linear settlement that includes a pub-restaurant and farm shop on the Elmley Lovett side of the boundaries; it continues passing its near-square public green into the parish of Elmbridge, a similarly sized parish over to the east.Ecclesiastical parish map Its old stone parish church, much restored, has four very tall lancet windows to each side of the nave and a modest belltower topped by a tall stone spire. It is flanked by a scattering of tall trees.
Large public and private sector developments have taken place in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley since its creation in 1974. The closure of Round Oak Steelworks in December 1982 paved the way for the creation of the Merry Hill Shopping Centre on nearby farmland between 1985 and 1989. The Waterfront leisure and commercial complex was developed on the site of the steelworks itself between 1989 and 1995. Pensnett Trading Estate in Kingswinford has been developed since the 1960s for mostly light industry and services. A major redevelopment of Halesowen town centre took place in 2007/08, when the bus station was rebuilt and a section of the 1960s shopping area demolished to make way for a new Asda superstore.
Notable firms which hold, or once held, premises in Netherton include:- Braby's; English Electric; Forticrete; Metal Box; Movie (cleaning products); National Girobank; Peerless Refining Co.; North West Timber; Porter Chadburn; Post Office Telecommunications (British Telecom.); Scott's Bakery (now part of Allied Bakeries) and now the site of a large trading estate including cinema, Matalan store and a pub called the Bakers Dozen; Wimpey and to Alliance and Leicester. Netherton was formerly the home of the Everton F.C. youth academy, which has now been relocated to Finch Farm. The land was previously a fire station (the old brick building on the site) and the grounds of Littlewoods Social Club. This area has now been turned into a Goals football centre.
The club first announced in 2007 that redevelopment of the current site was one of the options under consideration. In April 2008, the club revealed that it was considering the acquisition of the Wingate Trading Estate immediately adjacent to the north of White Hart Lane for building the stadium. In October 2008, the Northumberland Development Project, that included the construction of a stadium, as well as a club museum, homes, shops and other facilities, was announced. The early plan was for Tottenham to move into the new stadium, while it was partially built, at the beginning of the 2012–13 season, with the stadium completed by the end of the following season.
In March 2012, Haringey Council approved of plans to hand over council-owned land in the redevelopment area, including part of Wingate Trading Estate, as well as Paxton Road and Bill Nicholson Way, to Spurs. It also agreed on a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to buy the remaining properties on Paxton Road that had yet to sell. After a long delay, the Secretary of State for the Department for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, confirmed the CPO on 11 July 2014. The owner of the remaining business with two plots on the development site, Archway Sheet Metal Works, then attempted but failed to have the CPO decision quashed in the High Court.
In 1962, while studying in the art department at Swindon College, he formed his own band, called Rick's Blues, and was now playing a Hohner electric piano instead of drums. The band included Gilbert O'Sullivan on drums for a time; he later was the best man at Davies's wedding. In a March 1972 interview, O'Sullivan said "Rick had originally taught me how to play the drums and piano – in fact, he taught me everything about music." When his father became ill, Davies disbanded Rick's Blues, left college, and took a job as a welder at Square D, a firm making industrial control products and systems, which had a factory on the Cheney Manor Trading Estate in Swindon.
The show is a mockumentary based in a branch of a large paper company called Wernham Hogg (where "life is stationery"), in the Slough Trading Estate in Berkshire. Slough is a large town immortalised for its lack of appeal by John Betjeman in his poem "Slough" ("Come, friendly bombs and fall on Slough/It isn't fit for humans now..."). The office is headed by general manager David Brent (Gervais), aided by his team leader and Assistant to the Regional Manager Gareth Keenan, played by Mackenzie Crook. Much of the series' comedic success stems from Brent, who frequently makes attempts to win favour with his employees and peers with embarrassing or disastrous results.
Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and Fireball XL5 on display at the National Media Museum in Bradford, UK Supermarionation (a blend of the words "super", "marionette" and "animation")La Rivière 2009, p. 67. was a style of television and film production employed by British company AP Films (later Century 21 Productions) in its puppet TV series and feature films of the 1960s. They were created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and filmed at APF's studios on the Slough Trading Estate. The characters in these productions were played by electronic marionettes with a moveable lower lip, which opened and closed in time with pre-recorded dialogue by means of a solenoid in the puppet's head or chest.
The experiment also trialled the use of yield road signs at junctions (these later developed into "give way" signs) where previously only a generic "slow" sign had been used. It had been intended to trial American and European-style directional signage but it proved too short notice to include these in the experiment. Road signs indicating 20 mph and 40 mph speed limits were trialled for the first time in the UK. In order to maximise compliance police activity in the town was intensified for the duration of the experiment. The police also ran a series of road safety courses on the Slough Trading Estate that included cycling proficiency tests for school children.
The former Phoenix Brewery (1821) between Grand Parade and the Hanover district was historically significant but architecturally modest, apart from the later brewery office and adjacent Free Butt pub. Closure came in the early 1990s, and the site was redeveloped for student housing. Allen West & Co. Ltd, an electrical engineering company which was a major employer in northeast Brighton from 1910, built several distinctive factories on Lewes Road and the Moulsecoomb estate, especially in the 1940s and 1950s. Most were demolished in the 1960s and 1970s, and the large warehouses of the Fairway Trading Estate occupy the Moulsecoomb site; but the company's wide brown-brick administrative and design office, built in 1966 on Lewes Road, was sold to Brighton Polytechnic and became Mithras House.
Slough Trading Estate played a major part in making Slough an important business centre in South East England. Before the 19th century, the main businesses of Slough were brickfields and agriculture. The bricks for the building of Eton College were made in Slough. Later, as the Great West Road traffic increased, inns and pubs sprang up along the road to service the passing trade. Until the town developed as an industrial area, nurseries were prominent in the local economy; the Cox's Orange Pippin apple was first raised in Colnbrook (not then within Slough) around 1825, and the dianthus "Mrs Sinkins Pink" was first raised at some point between 1868p20, The Changing Face of Slough, Slough Museum, Breedon Books, Derby, 2003 and 1883Fraser (1973), p. 100.
The depression years of the 1920s and 1930s created even more joblessness and the Team Valley Trading Estate was built in the mid-1930s to alleviate the situation. In 1974, following the Local Government Act 1972, the County Borough of Gateshead was merged with the urban districts of Felling, Whickham, Blaydon and Ryton and part of the rural district of Chester-le-Street to create the much larger Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead. In the past decade, Gateshead Council has begun developing plans to regenerate the town, with the long-term aim of making Gateshead a city. The most extensive transformation thus far has occurred in the Quayside, with almost all the structures there being constructed or refurbished in this time.
The Merry Hill Shopping Centre is one of the largest shopping centres in the UKA part of the Black Country, Dudley traditionally has been an industrial centre of manufacturing, quarrying, and mining, although this has declined in more recent years, with a shift in focus towards the service sector (accounting for 79.1% of employment) and tourism. Despite this, there are still numerous large industrial sites around the borough, such as the Pensnett Trading Estate, with the manufacturing industries making up 15.3% of employment. Tourism is of increasing importance to the local economy, with approximately 6,600 people employed within the sector. Attractions such as the Black Country Living Museum and Dudley Zoo bring in hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
During his long political career, Hall remained closely tied to his native town and valley and was regarded as an effective and approachable constituency MP. He devoted considerable energy to attract alternative industries to the Aberdare area following the decline of coal mining. It was largely through his efforts that a major new employer, Aberdare Cables, established a factoru in the town in 1937 and Hall later became a director of the company. He was also instrumental in establishing Royal Ordnance Factories at Robertstown and Rhigos during the war years as well as the new Hirwaun Trading Estate in 1945. Royal Air Force Hemswell or more simply RAF Hemswell is a former Royal Air Force station located east of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England. Located close to the village of Hemswell in Lincolnshire, England the disestablished airfield is now in full use as a civilian industrial and retail trading estate, forming part of the newly created parish of Hemswell Cliff along with the station's married quarters and RAF built primary school that are now in non-military ownership. The airfield was used by RAF Bomber Command for 20 years between 1937 and 1957 and saw most of its operational life during the Second World War.
